Pini Abstract The distribution of interstellar reddening material within a few kiloparsecs of the sun has been studied on the basis of color excess versus distance diagrams, using the stars contained in the photoelectric catalogue of Blanco and FitzGerald. In most directions the reddening material is highiy concentrated to the galactic plane, with a half-width varying from 40 to 100 pc. It appears to lie in cloud complexes between 100 and 1000 pc in diameter, which are broken into smaller clouds. The sun lies at the southern edge of one such complex associated with the local spiral arm. Reddening also appears to be associated with the inner spiral arm. A local subsystem of reddening material, associated with the Gould's Belt system, contains some clouds a few hundred parsecs above and below the galactic plane in the galactic center and anticenter di- rections, respectively.
