THE 1998 ANNUAL MEETING was conducted under the presidency of Byron A. Campbell, Princeton University, and took place in Diisseldorf, Germany under the local organization of Ursula Stockhorst, Institute of Medical Psychology, University of Dtisseldoff. scientific program was organized jointly by Ursula Stockhorst and Byron Campbell. Additional members of the local organization committee were Paul Enck, University of Ttibingen and Sibylle Klosterhalfen, Heike Heselmann, Erika Schrills, Birgit Uehlecke, Institute of Medical Psychology, University of Dtisseldorf. We thank Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Steingrtiber, Director of the Institute of Medical Psychology, University of DUsseldorf for his continuing support throughout all of the preparations for the Meeting. It was the first annual meeting in Germany. special focus of the 1998 meeting, announced in the Call for Papers, was The continuing influence of Pavlov on contemporary research and theory. meetings and all other conference activities, except a welcoming dinner in the 'Altstadt' (old town area), were held in the 'Kunstsammlung', a modern art museum with a twentieth century collection. museum, which had on display a special collection of Max Ernst's work as well as its own works, was a wonderful location for the conference. annual conference dinner (Oct. 31) and the Awards luncheon (Nov. 1) were held in the anteroom of the lecture room resulting in a very comfortable and inspiring atmosphere. scientific part of the meeting started with an introduction and welcoming address (Campbell, Stockhorst) on October 31. Forty-three papers covering a broad range of current research in the area of Pavlovian conditioning were presented over two days (Oct. 31 and Nov. 1). forty-three papers were divided into two invited addresses [R. F. Thompson, S. C. Woods] two special addresses IS. E. Brandon: M. E.
