To decrease pollutant effluent levels in sewage plants, in order to improve the pollutant control capacity, the removal efficiencies for COD, TP, TN, and NH3-N in two sewage plants located in Guangzhou were compared and analyzed. The correlation among influent carbon and nitrogen ratios, water loading rate, and total nitrogen removal rate were examined to enhance the nitrogen removal. The CASS process in Plant I had slightly higher TN (81.85%) and TP (98.38%) removal rates than those in Plant II (80%). Plants I and II achieved COD removal rates of 95.51% and 96.44%, respectively, and NH3-N removal rates of 99.08% and 99.34%, respectively. Correlation analysis showed that only the influent loading rate of Plant I had a moderate correlation with the total nitrogen removal rate, while the other factors only had a weak correlation. Therefore, the total nitrogen removal rate is influenced by multiple factors.
