ЛІТЕРАТУРНА КРИТИКА ЯК СПОСІБ САМОАКТУАЛІЗАЦІЇ ІНТЕЛЕКТУАЛА (НА МАТЕРІАЛІ ЛИСТУВАННЯ Й ПРАЦЬ ЮРІЯ ШЕВЕЛЬОВА ТА БОГДАНА РУБЧАКА)

In this article was made an attempt to reconstruct continuous creative and intellectual dialogue of two well-known Ukrainian modern humanitarians – Yurii Shevelov and Bohdan Rubchak. Author relies on their letter’s collections between each other, which are being stored in Bakhmeteff archive in the Rare Books and Manuscripts Library at Columbia University (USA), and also relies on their critical performances.Tetiana Shestopalova proves that dialogue is being based on deep spiritual affinity of these two intellectuals. It is being reflected by different in emotional tone greetings in their letters. These greetings imply the literature family’s theme, but not as the meaning of creative succession, as it was typical for Ukrainian literature in 19th century, but in the meaning of joint building national modern culture construct by intellectuals, who were strategically thinking. Bohdan Rubchak’s and Yurii Shevelov’s articles, which are dedicated to the same poetry book of Natalia Livycka-Kholodna, are transferring epistolary dialogues to the level of basis, methodology, meanings of literary criticism. Formal way of poetry comprehension, which was taken by Bohdan Rubchak, Yurii. Shevelov characterized as a method of approximation to its essence. Instead poetry essence itself needs critic’s “real sense”, his perception of art’s phenomenal core, which has no name.Finally, both of them were interested in “the variants of critical discourse”, which, as we know, are being dictated by the methods of criticism, so that, by variants of critical thinking. Epistolary dialogue, which caused from the beginning by Yurii Shevelov’s interest in modern poetry of Bohdan Rubchak, subsequently reaches culmination in common understanding of literature and poetry as a method for realization of own creative and intellectual essence.

Distinct profiling of antimicrobial peptide families.

Motivation: The increased prevalence of multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens heightens the need to design new antimicrobial agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) exhibit broad-spectrum potent activity against MDR pathogens and kills rapidly, thus giving rise to AMPs being recognized as a potential substitute for conventional antibiotics. Designing new AMPs using current in-silico approaches is, however, challenging due to the absence of suitable models, large number of design parameters, testing cycles, production time and cost. To date, AMPs have merely been categorized into families according to their primary sequences, structures and functions. The ability to computationally determine the properties that discriminate AMP families from each other could help in exploring the key characteristics of these families and facilitate the in-silico design of synthetic AMPs.Results: Here we studied 14 AMP families and sub-families. We selected a specific description of AMP amino acid sequence and identified compositional and physicochemical properties of amino acids that accurately distinguish each AMP family from all other AMPs with an average sensitivity, specificity and precision of 92.88%, 99.86% and 95.96%, respectively. Many of our identified discriminative properties have been shown to be compositional or functional characteristics of the corresponding AMP family in literature. We suggest that these properties could serve as guides for in-silico methods in design of novel synthetic AMPs. Intracranial arachnoid cyst family with autosomal recessive trait mapped to chromosome 6q22.31-23.2

Arachnoid cysts are congenital fluid-filled compartments within the cerebrospinal fluid cisterns and cerebral fissures. They most commonly occur sporadically, and familial occurrence has rarely been reported. In this study, we showed the first genetic linkage in the literature in a pure intracranial arachnoid cyst family with autosomal recessive trait. We identified an intracranial arachnoid cyst family in southern Turkey whose six of seven offspring had intracranial arachnoid cysts in different localizations, and collected venous blood from seven offspring of the family. Whole-genome linkage analysis was performed in all offspring. A theorical maximum logarithm of the odds score of 4.6 was identified at chromosome 6q22.31-23.2. This result shows strong genetic linkage to this locus. We present the first genetic linkage analysis result in a pure intracranial arachnoid cyst family in literature. Further investigation of this linkage area can reveal a causative gene causing the intracranial arachnoid cyst phenotype and can illuminate the pathogenesis of this disease.

Genetics in the Real World: Resources for Pediatric Nurses Using Monogenic Diabetes as an Exemplar

Some researchers (Collins, 2009; Hudziak, 1998) postulate that all disease is genetic on at least some basic level. The pediatric nurse may not be familiar with the details of recent advances in genetics and how those advances might play a role in helping children or understand the implications of a genetic diagnosis. For those nurses who have been practicing for more than a decade, their exposure to genetics in their initial nursing education may have been limited to the basics of Mendelian inheritance (Anderson, 1996). Since the mapping of the entire human genome in 2003, much more information is available (Collins, 2009). How the nursing profession will integrate this information into future nursing education is being actively discussed at a national level (Consensus Panel, 2008; Jenkins, Dimond, & Steinberg, 2001). The issue of how to make genetic information available and practical for pediatric nurses who currently practice is less clear. Therefore, it is important for all pediatric nurses to understand how genetics applies to patient care. This article will use monogenic diabetes as an example to describe the genetic aspect of a common disorder to engage pediatric nurses in genetics and to illustrate how nurses can incorporate basic genetic skills into their daily nursing assessments.

In “Writing the Absent Potential: Drama, Performance, and the Canon of African-American Literature,” Sandra Richards argues that scholars largely ignore the African-American contribution to theatre and performance. She suspects that most critics regard “drama as a disreputable member of the family of literature” (65). Even African Americanists neglect dramatic literature; indeed, the Norton Anthology of African American Literature includes only a scant number of plays. Both David Krasner and Shane White effectively redress this oversight and shift the focus from African-American literature to blacks on stage in their recent monographs about early nineteenth-century and early twentieth-century drama.

CHARCOT‐MARIE‐TOOTH WITH DIAPHRAGM AND VOCAL CORD PARALYSIS (CMT2C)

Charcot‐Marie‐Tooth disease (CMT) is the most common inherited disorder of the peripheral nervous system and is clinically and genetically heterogeneous. Recent advances of molecular genetics has dramatically increased our understanding of the underlying disease mechanisms. Genetic linkage studies have identified a lot of genetic loci for different types of inherited neuropathies, although most genes involved still remain to be found. In fact, the axonal type of CMT associated with diaphragm and vocal cord paralysis (CMT2C) is not yet associated to a gene locus. We describe seven members affected by CMT2C belonging to a family expanded for three generations, and with a male‐to‐male transmission. Four patients, all affected by vocal cord paralysis (VCp) showed also distal weakness and atrophy more severely in the lower limbs. Three of these patients were treated surgically by arytenoidopexy for VCp, the last one with VCp and diaphragm paralysis was treated with cordectomy.Three other patients showed marked weakness and hypotrophy of upper and lower limbs. Two of these patients complained of laryngeal stridor and dispnoea during activity, the last one had neonatal diagnosis of SMA, but did not show respiratory impairment. All patients had pes cavus and absence of deep tendon reflexes. EMG examination showed clear neurogenic lesions in all the patients and in all the explored muscles. Conduction velocity (CV) studies showed an almost normal CV, while sensory‐ and motor‐evoked potentials had a severe amplitude reduction. Sural nerve biopsy performed in one patient showed clear signs of axonal degeneration.Our data confirm the association between VCp and axonal type of CMT, already described in isolated cases but only in two families in literature. We are trying to perform a linkage analysis in this family and we hope that this can help in understanding pathophysiologic mechanisms and the association between VCp and CMT.

Segregation analysis of rare autosomal folate sensitive fragile sites.

We have studied 12 families with rare autosomal folate sensitive fragile sites (RAFSFS). Of these, 9 were informative for segregation analysis of fragile sites in order to assess differences in parental transmission. We identified 20 families with RAFSFS from the literature from 1985 to 1989; thirteen of these were informative for segregation analysis. Segregation analysis confirmed that paternal fragile site transmission rates deviated significantly from the expected 50% for a Mendelian co-dominant trait. Sex ratio comparisons showed a significant excess of transmitting females and a significant excess of males among fragile site non-carriers from the literature families. Comparison of the fragile site carriers with non-carriers in the combined data showed a non-significant excess of non-carriers. We confirmed a deficiency of offspring expressing fragile sites when transmission was through fathers, suggesting gametic selection or the phenomenon of parental genomic imprinting.

Many species of polynoids have been famous for the "conrnensal" habit among Polychaeta. The author can count 274 species of cornmensal (or may be commensal) Polychaeta in 34 different families in literature, and 40% of them in polynoids. They are classified into three ranks. Rank A is for the Polychaetes almost always foufhd in commensal condition with hosts. Rank B is for the species not only frequently found in commensal but also in free living condition. Rank C is for the species almost free living, bur sometimes in commensal. The polychactes of strong tendency toward commensal life (A+B=t) are 154 species, and the species of the family Poiynoidae are half of them (72 species).Many groups of marine organisms are well known as involving of many commensal or parasitic species. But almost all the groups are classified as the differentiated or modified situation rather than the primitive one in each higher taxa. Polynoidae is said to one of the most primitive families in Polychaeta, and it is the largest family in Polychaeta. This is he most peculiar point of Polynoidae comparing with other commensal groups. But commensal condition of Polynoe dae is rather similar to that of the shrimps of the family Alpheidae.The setal modifications for comtneusal life in polynoids may be three characters. 1) Basal cusp in neurosetae, 2) Hook-shaped neurosetae to anterior parapodia, 3) short, stout neurosetae with reduced teeth on their free margin. Many genera known to contain commensal species, are applicable to some of three characters mentioned above, but some genera dissatisfy any of those. In opposition, two genera, weberia Horst 1915 and Paraholoepidella Pettibone 1965 never rerorded commensalism, satisfy the third character, therefore, these two genera my be commensas. Adaptive color patterns are also conspicuous in many species. Ventral lamellae aid unusual development of ventral cirri are also characteristic in some commensal species.Poiynoid comensals can be divided into two types, lodging type and clinging type. The former is for the species living in tubes or burrows of polychaetes, holothurians and other marine organisms. The latter is for the species clinging on the body surface of echinoderms, alcyonarians, etc. Polynoids of the subfamily Lepidonotinae prefer to lodging type, and that of the subfamily harmat;loinae to clinging type. Therefore, the range of host types are different between two subfamilies. The species in Lepidonotinae frequently prefer to sedentary polychaetes as theirr hosts, the other hand the species in Harmothoinae usually prefer to echinoderms and anthozoans.It seers reasonable that morphological and color adaptive changes for commensal life are necessary for the clingings rather than the lodgings. Therefore, Hamothoinae has more adaptive modifications in setal morphology or ventral structures than Lepidonotinae.Furthermore, the former has more genera consisted of only commensal species than the latter.

A Family with X-Chromosomal Recessive Congenital Cataract, Microphthalmia, a Peculiar Form of the Ear and Dental Anomalies

An investigation has been made in a family with X-chromosomal recessive congenital cataract, microphthalmia, a peculiar form of the ear, and dental anomalies. The carrier females show only slight symptoms. They all have lens opacities, and most of them show more symptoms. For genetic counseling it is of utmost importance to examine all family members and to re-examine the females from time to time for early lens opacificaiton, which is the most constant finding. In literature families have been described with similar clinical symptoms only a few times. We have been trying to demonstrate a linkage with the Xga locus, which might enable us to locate the mutant gene on the X-chromosome and to exclude with more certainty the carrier status. The results of this blood group specification were not informative. In future we hope to be able to demonstrate a linkage with other markers located on the X-chromosome.
