Changes in Concentrations of Polyfluoroalkyl Substances in Human Milk Over Lactation Time and Effects of Maternal Exposure via Analysis of Matched Samples.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are potentially related to many adverse health outcomes and could be transferred from maternal blood to human milk, which is an important exposure source for infants during a long-term period. In this study, the maternal blood of 76 women after delivery and their matched human milk samples obtained at 0.5, 1, and 3 months were analyzed by solid-phase extraction method with metal-organic framework/polymer hybrid nanofibers as the sorbents and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-negative electrospray ionization mass spectrometric for quantitative analysis of 31 PFAS. The perfluorooctanoic acid, perfluorooctane sulfonate, and N-methyl perfluorooctane sulfonamido acetic acid (N-MeFOSAA) contributed to more than approximately 50% of the total PFAS concentrations in blood and human milk, while N-MeFOSAA (median: 0.274 ng/mL) was the highest PFAS in human milk at 3 months. The transfer efficiencies for PFAS from maternal blood to human milk at 0.5 months were generally lower, with medians ranging from 0.20% to 16.9%. The number of PFAS species detected in human milk increased as the lactation time went on from 0.5 to 3 months, and the concentrations of 10 PFAS displayed an increasing trend as the prolongation of lactation time (p < 0.05).

Rapid, sensitive, and high-throughput quantification of broad serological ceramides by using isotope dilution liquid chromatography-negative ion electrospray tandem mass spectrometry.

Ceramides are important intermediates in the metabolism of sphingolipids. High-throughput liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry has been used extensively for monitoring the levels of serological ceramides, but is still limited by inadequate coverage or lack of sensitivity. Herein, a rapid, sensitive, and high-throughput isotope dilution liquid chromatography-negative ion electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (IDLC-nESI-MS/MS) method was developed and verified for accurate quantification of 41 ceramides, involving ceramides with C16-20 sphingosine, dihydro-ceramide, and dehydro-ceramide. This method was validated with excellent linearity (R2 > 0.99) and good recovery in the range of 90-110%. Intra- and inter-day imprecision were below 5.57% and 7.83% respectively. The improved high-throughput quantitative method developed in this study may aid in the accurate characterization of ceramides for understanding ceramide biology and application in disease diagnosis.

Variations in bovine milk oligosaccharides after calving using p-aminobenzoic ethyl ester closed-ring labeling and negative ion electrospray LC/MS/MS.

A strategy was proposed to analyze bovine milk oligosaccharides using p-aminobenzoic ethyl ester (ABEE) closed-ring labeling and C18 capillary liquid chromatography negative ion electrospray tandem mass spectrometry. Linkage specific fragment ions were used to identify oligosaccharide isomers. By constructing the mass chromatograms using linkage specific fragment ions, isomers were differentiated based on m/z values as well as temporal separation provided by liquid chromatography. In addition to disialyllactose and the single isomer lacto-N-neohexaose, four pairs of linkage isomers including 3'/6'-sialyllactose (3'/6'-SL), 3'/6'-sialyllactosamine (3'/6'-SLN), 3'/6'-sialylgalactosyl-lactose (3'/6'-SGL), and lacto-N-tetraose/lacto-N-neotetraose (LNT/LNnT) in bovine milk were investigated. Variations of bovine milk oligosaccharides in a lactation period of 72 h after calving were studied. Sialylated oligosaccharide was found to be distinctively more abundant in milk of the first 24 h, decreasing in successive milkings. For the first time, the variation of lacto-N-tetraose in bovine milk was reported.

Determination of Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Water and Wastewater Samples by Liquid Chromatography-Negative Ion Electrospray Ionization-Tandem Mass Spectrometry.

A liquid chromatography-negative ion electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of bisphenol A, 4-octylphenol, 4-nonylphenol, diethylstilbestrol, 17β-estradiol, estriol, estrone, 17α-ethinylestradiol, prednisone, and prednisolone. This method used solid-phase extraction with an elution solvent of acetonitrile to improve the stability of the analytes. To maintain the stability of analytes analyses were completed within five days. The recoveries ranged from 84 to 112% and the relative standard deviation of analysis of duplicate samples was <10%. The limits of quantitation were 1–10 ng/L. Surface water and wastewater were obtained from five wastewater treatment plants in Saskatchewan. Matrix effects were moderate to severe. Using standard addition calibration, all analytes except diethylstilbestrol and 17α-ethinyl estradiol were detected. There was a low frequency of detection of the target analytes in upstream and downstream water, indicating good removal efficiency during the wastewater treatment process. Bisphenol A and 4-nonylphenol were the only analytes detected downstream. Bisphenol A was the most frequently detected in raw wastewater (133 to 403 ng/L). Estriol was detected more often in raw wastewater than estrone or 17β-estradiol. This is the first Canadian study with the detection of prednisone and prednisolone with concentrations at 198–350 ng/L in raw wastewater at 60% of the wastewater treatment plants.

A strategy for validating concentrations of oxylipin standards for external calibration

Quantitative analysis of oxylipins by means of chromatography/mass spectrometry is based on (external) calibration with standard compounds. Therefore, the quality of analytical standards is of fundamental importance for accurate results. Recently launched certified standards with an assured concentration within a narrow range are useful tools to verify analytical standards. However, such standards are only available for a few compounds.Based on the exemplary comparison of certified with none certified standards we suggest a tiered approach to validate and control the concentrations when preparing an external calibration based on non-certified oxylipin standards. Concentrations are evaluated by means of liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (LC-ESI(-)-MS) in selected ion monitoring mode and UV spectroscopy.Based on the suggested approach, more than 50% of the standards in our calibration mix could be validated. Though most of the non-certified standards are of good quality, several oxylipin concentrations differ considerably demonstrating that a quality control strategy as suggested here is a mandatory prerequisite for quantitative oxylipin metabolomics.

Biomonitoring of fluoroalkylated substances in Antarctica seabird plasma: Development and validation of a fast and rugged method using on-line concentration liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry

We report on a fast, accurate and rugged analytical procedure to determine a wide span of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in seabird plasma. The 26 investigated compounds included perfluoroalkyl carboxylates (C5–C14 PFCAs), perfluoroalkyl sulfonates (C4, C6, C7, C8, C10 PFSAs), perfluorooctane sulfonamide (FOSA) and N-alkyl derivatives (MeFOSA, EtFOSA), N-alkyl perfluorooctane sulfonamido acetic acids (MeFOSAA, EtFOSAA), fluorotelomer sulfonates (4:2 FTSA, 6:2 FTSA, 8:2 FTSA), polyfluoroalkyl phosphate diesters (diPAPs) and perfluorooctane sulfonamide phosphate diester (diSAmPAP). The method described herein requires a reduced sample amount (25μL) and involves rapid and simple sample preparation (protein precipitation with acetonitrile but without acidification) prior to analysis by on-line solid phase extraction (Oasis HLB sorbent) coupled to high performance liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. The optimization was conducted using experimental designs to account for potential interactions between variables. Out of the 26 target analytes, 23 compounds showed excellent accuracy (±25% of the expected values). Intermediate precision and matrix effects remained acceptable for most analytes thanks to efficient internal standardization. A human serum standard reference material (NIST SRM 1957) was included in the validation scheme to evaluate method trueness, which proved satisfactory (│Z-scores│<2 for most compounds). Notwithstanding the small initial sample intake, limits of detection as low as 0.003–0.1ngg−1 plasma were obtained. This allowed the determination of 11 target PFASs in Antarctic seabird plasma samples. ΣPFASs in Antarctic seabird plasma ranged from 0.37 to 19ngg−1, with a predominance of PFOS (>54% of ΣPFASs on average). The reduced plasma amount required implies that the present method could also be applied to the analysis of PFASs in the plasma of smaller biological models.

Simultaneous Quantitation of Estradiol and Estrone in Serum Using Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry.

Accurate measurement of the endogenous estrogens, estrone (E1) and estradiol (E2), is important in the clinical diagnosis and monitoring of multiple disorders. Typically, given the efficacy and low cost, radioimmunoassays (RIA) and enzyme-linked immunoassays (EIA) are used to quantify these hormones in biological samples. Unfortunately, at low levels these assays lack the necessary sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of certain disorders in adult and pediatric endocrinology and oncology. In response to this need, we developed a fast and sensitive high performance liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method to measure serum estrone (E1) and estradiol (E2) without chemical derivatization. Samples are spiked with a stable isotopic carbon thirteen ((13)C) labeled internal standard and the estrogens are isolated by liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) with hexane:Methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) (9:1). Following centrifugation and dry down samples are reconstituted with deionized water, and separated on a C18 reverse phase column. The analytes are quantified using a six point calibration curve with a linearity of 2.6-625 pg/ml and with a variability of less than 8 % across analytical range.

Terpenylic acid and nine-carbon multifunctional compounds formed during the aging of β-pinene ozonolysis secondary organic aerosol

Abstract Recent field and laboratory studies suggest that forest aerosol particles contain more highly functionalized organic molecules than pinonic acid, a traditional molecular maker of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) particles. To investigate the reaction mechanisms during the aging of biogenic SOAs, the gases and particles formed from the ozonolysis of β- and α-pinene were exposed to OH radicals in a laboratory chamber. The particle samples were collected before and after OH exposure for analysis by liquid chromatography-negative electrospray ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Pinic acid and terpenylic acid were abundant products in both β- and α-pinene ozonolysis SOA particles. Terpenylic acid and products with m/z 201.08 present in β-pinene SOA particles increased upon exposing SOA to OH radicals, whereas 3-methyl-1,2,3-butanetricarboxylic acid present in α-pinene SOA particles increased upon exposing SOA to OH radicals. The products with m/z 201.08 were suggested to be C9H14O5 compounds. Similar C9H14O5 compounds and terpenylic acid were also detected in SOA particles formed from the photooxidation of nopinone, a major first-generation product of β-pinene ozonolysis. The OH-initiated oxidation of nopinone will contribute to the formation of terpenylic acid and C9H14O5 compounds during the aging of β-pinene SOA. A formation mechanism for terpenylic acid via gas-phase diaterpenylic acid formation followed by self-dehydration in the condensed phase was suggested.

Biotransformation of indole by Cupriavidus sp. strain KK10 proceeds through N-heterocyclic- and carbocyclic-aromatic ring cleavage and production of indigoids

Comprehensive analyses of the biotransformation of the N-heteroaromatic environmental pollutant, indole, by a newly isolated soil bacterium designated strain KK10, were conducted by liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI(−)–MS/MS). Numerous indole bioproducts were revealed and provided evidence for multiple pathways of indole biotransformation by this strain including unreported pathways. Oxidation of the N-heterocyclic ring of indole and ring cleavage through N-formylanthranilic acid and gentisic acid was characterized in addition to a carbocyclic ring-cleavage pathway which was documented for the first time. Three carbocyclic aromatic ring cleavage products of indole were proposed and the structure of 2,3-pyrrole-dicarboxylic acid was confirmed following synthesis and analyses of an authentic standard of this compound. Eight downstream ring-fission products were identified overall and these results confirmed the lower pathways of indole biotransformation. Indigo, indirubin and other indigoid compounds were produced by strain KK10 and confirmed N-heterocyclic-ring oxidations in the upper pathways. Nearly complete sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene of strain KK10 and phylogenetic analysis revealed that it was a new member of the genus Cupriavidus. Cupriavidus strains that biotransform N-heteroaromatic pollutants have not been described. These results expand both our understanding of the versatile catabolic capabilities of members of the genus Cupriavidus and provide evidence for alternative biotransformation mechanisms for indole in the environment by bacteria.

Determination of emerging and priority industrial pollutants in surface water and wastewater by liquid chromatography–negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry

A method for the simultaneous determination of six perfluoroalkyl compounds (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and five perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids), five phenolic compounds (nonylphenol (NP), bisphenol A (BPA), and methyl-, ethyl- and propylparabens), and the brominated flame retardant hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) in surface water and effluent wastewater has been developed. The selected pollutants include eight of the industrial pollutants (PFOS and derivatives, NP, and HBCDD) that could be regulated in surface water according to an European Union Directive proposal and four compounds of great concern because their estrogenicity (BPA and parabens). The method is based on solid-phase extraction and determination by high-performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry in negative electrospray ionization mode. Method quantitation limits of NP, PFOS and derivatives, and HBCDD allow its application for routinely control of surface water according to the EU proposal of directive.

Development and validation of a method for the determination of nicotinic acid in human plasma using liquid chromatography-negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry and its application to a bioequivalence study

Biotransformation of the high‐molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) benzo[k]fluoranthene by Sphingobium sp. strain KK22 and identification of new products of non‐alternant PAH biodegradation by liquid chromatography electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry

A pathway for the biotransformation of the environmental pollutant and high-molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) benzo[k]fluoranthene by a soil bacterium was constructed through analyses of results from liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI(–)-MS/MS). Exposure of Sphingobium sp. strain KK22 to benzo[k]fluoranthene resulted in transformation to four-, three-and two-aromatic ring products. The structurally similar four-and three-ring non-alternant PAHs fluoranthene and acenaphthylene were also biotransformed by strain KK22, and LC/ESI(–)-MS/MS analyses of these products confirmed the lower biotransformation pathway proposed for benzo[k]fluoranthene. In all, seven products from benzo[k]fluoranthene and seven products from fluoranthene were revealed and included previously unreported products from both PAHs. Benzo[k]fluoranthene biotransformation proceeded through ortho-cleavage of 8,9-dihydroxy-benzo[k]fluoranthene to 8-carboxyfluoranthenyl-9-propenic acid and 9-hydroxy-fluoranthene-8-carboxylic acid, and was followed by meta-cleavage to produce 3-(2-formylacenaphthylen-1-yl)-2-hydroxy-prop-2-enoic acid. The fluoranthene pathway converged with the benzo[k]fluoranthene pathway through detection of the three-ring product, 2-formylacenaphthylene-1-carboxylic acid. Production of key downstream metabolites, 1,8-naphthalic anhydride and 1-naphthoic acid from benzo[k]fluoranthene, fluoranthene and acenaphthylene biotransformations provided evidence for a common pathway by strain KK22 for all three PAHs through acenaphthoquinone. Quantitative analysis of benzo[k]fluoranthene biotransformation by strain KK22 confirmed biodegradation. This is the first pathway proposed for the biotransformation of benzo[k]fluoranthene by a bacterium.

Characterization of Phenolic Compounds in Fruit Extracts of Three Medicinal Plants Using Liquid Chromatography-Negative Electrospray Ionization Tandem Mass Spectrometry

The characterization of phenolics was done in fruits of three medicinal plants such as Aegle marmelos, Terminalia chebula and Garcinia gummi-gutta using liquid chromatography coupled with Quadra pole mass spectroscopy in ESI negative mode. The accurate mass data for the molecular ions were processed using the software Mass Hunter work station (Agilent Technologies), which provided a list of possible elemental formulas generated using the Molecular featured extraction editor. The subsequent structural characterization was carried out by MS/MS fragmentation. The total phenolics of each sample were also estimated spectrophotometrically using Folin Ciocalteu method.

Determination of stilbenes and resorcylic acid lactones in bovine, porcine and poultry muscle tissue by liquid chromatography–negative ion electrospray mass spectrometry and QuEChERS for sample preparation

Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method was developed and validated to confirm of resorcylic acid lactones: zeranol, taleranol, zearalanone, zearalenone, α and β-zearalenol and stilbenes in muscle tissue. The compounds were analyzed by LC-MS/MS QTrap 5500 apparatus in negative ionization mode. Chromatographic separation on Poroshell 120-EC C18 (150mm×2.1mm, 2.7μm) column was achieved at 45°C using isocratic elution of mobile phase - methanol/water (65:35, v/v). For the treatment of tissue samples prior to analysis, QuEChERS method was applied based on the extraction of analytes from muscle samples with ethyl acetate, separation of the aqueous and organic phases with application of magnesium sulphate and sodium acetate, the purification of the extract obtained by dispersive SPE with the use of sorbent C18, PSA and magnesium sulphate. The method was validated in accordance with the Commission Decision 2002/657/EC. Good recoveries were obtained (from 83% to 115%) as well as acceptable within-lab reproducibility (<22%). The values of the decision limit CCα and the detection capability CCβ for individual compounds are found to be below the recommended concentration set at 1μgkg(-1) and not exceed 0.23μgkg(-1) and 0.39μgkg(-1), respectively. The elaborated method meets the criteria for confirmatory methods and is used in the official control of hormones.

Development of a Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry Method for Identification of Flavonoids in Ginkgo biloba

AbstractA rapid, selective and sensitive method for analysis of trace flavonoids and its glycoside derivatives in ginkgo has proposed. Ultrasonic‐assisted extraction of sample preparation was adopted to extract trace flavonoids in ginkgo leaf and its processed product. The compounds were identified using liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The neutral loss scan mode of MS/MS was used to screen flavonoid compounds and those compounds with acid group, or having rhamnosyl, glucosyl, or coumaroyl moiety in the samples. The successive data‐dependent product ion scan mode of MS/MS was used to identify the structure of the components. The analytical results represented three aglycone flavonoids and seven flavonoid glycosides in ginkgo. The method detection limits were evaluated for the analytes analyzed in the range of 0.88 to 2.67 μg/mL.

Benz[ a ]anthracene Biotransformation and Production of Ring Fission Products by Sphingobium sp. Strain KK22

A soil bacterium, designated strain KK22, was isolated from a phenanthrene enrichment culture of a bacterial consortium that grew on diesel fuel, and it was found to biotransform the persistent environmental pollutant and high-molecular-weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) benz[a]anthracene. Nearly complete sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene of strain KK22 and phylogenetic analysis revealed that this organism is a new member of the genus Sphingobium. An 8-day time course study that consisted of whole-culture extractions followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses with fluorescence detection showed that 80 to 90% biodegradation of 2.5 mg liter(-1) benz[a]anthracene had occurred. Biodegradation assays where benz[a]anthracene was supplied in crystalline form (100 mg liter(-1)) confirmed biodegradation and showed that strain KK22 cells precultured on glucose were equally capable of benz[a]anthracene biotransformation when precultured on glucose plus phenanthrene. Analyses of organic extracts from benz[a]anthracene biodegradation by liquid chromatography negative electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry [LC/ESI(-)-MS/MS] revealed 10 products, including two o-hydroxypolyaromatic acids and two hydroxy-naphthoic acids. 1-Hydroxy-2- and 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acids were unambiguously identified, and this indicated that oxidation of the benz[a]anthracene molecule occurred via both the linear kata and angular kata ends of the molecule. Other two- and single-aromatic-ring metabolites were also documented, including 3-(2-carboxyvinyl)naphthalene-2-carboxylic acid and salicylic acid, and the proposed pathways for benz[a]anthracene biotransformation by a bacterium were extended.

Ultra Pressure Liquid Chromatography–Negative Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectrometry Determination of Twelve Halobenzoquinones at ng/L Levels in Drinking Water

We report here the characterization of twelve halobenzoquinones (HBQs) using electrospray ionization (ESI) high resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. The high resolution negative ESI spectra of the twelve HBQs formed two parent ions, [M + H(+) + 2e(-)], and the radical M(-•). The intensities of these two parent ions are dependent on their chemical structures and on instrumental parameters such as the source temperature and flow rate. The characteristic ions of the HBQs were used to develop an ultra pressure liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method. At the UPLC flow rate (400 μL/min) and under the optimized ESI conditions, eleven HBQs showed the stable and abundant transitions [M + H(+) + 2e(-)] → X(-) (X(-) representing Cl(-), Br(-), or I(-)), while dibromo-dimethyl-benzoquinone (DBDMBQ) showed only the transition of M(-•) → Br(-). The UPLC efficiently separates all HBQs including some HBQ isomers, while the MS/MS offers exquisite limits of detection (LODs) at subng/mL levels for all HBQs except DBDMBQ. Combined with solid phase extraction (SPE), the method LOD is down to ng/L. The results from analysis of authentic samples demonstrated that the SPE-UPLC-MS/MS method is reliable, fast, and sensitive for the identification and quantification of the twelve HBQs in drinking water.

Quantification of Flavonoids in Black Rice by Liquid Chromatography-Negative Electrospray Ionization Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Systematic identification and structural characterization of flavonoids and their glycosides in bran extracts of seven Thai black rice varieties were performed by sequential uses of reversed-phase HPLC with a photodiode array detector and a combined electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometer. Eleven flavonoids were detected, and six of these were found for the first time in rice bran. These were taxifolin-7-O-glucoside, myricetin-7-O-glucoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-acetylglucoside, isorhamnetin-7-O-rutinoside, 5,6,3',4',5'-pentahydroxyflavone-7-O-glucoside, and 5,3',4',5'-tetrahydroxyflavanone-7-O-glucoside. The quantitative results revealed that different rice varieties possessed flavonoids in different concentrations. The most abundant glycoside derivative of flavonoids widely distributed among the rice varieties was monoglucoside, such as quercetin-3-O-glucoside, isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside, and isorhamnetin-3-O-glucoside.

Negative ion tandem mass spectrometry of prenylated fungal metabolites and their derivatives

Liquid chromatography negative ion electrospray ionisation tandem mass spectrometry has been used for characterisation of naturally occurring prenylated fungal metabolites and synthetic derivatives. The fragmentation studies allow an elucidation of the decomposition pathways for these compounds. It could be shown, that the prenyl side chain is degraded by successive radical losses of C(5) units. Both the benzoquinones and the phenolic derivatives display significant key ions comprising the aromatic ring. In some cases, the formation of significant oxygen-free key ions could be evidenced by high-resolution MS/MS measurements. Furthermore, the different types of basic skeletons, benzoquinones and phenol type as well as cyclic prenylated compounds, can be differentiated by their MS/MS behaviour. Identification of Sialylated Oligosaccharides Derived from Ovine and Caprine Caseinomacropeptide by Graphitized Carbon Liquid Chromatography–Electrospray Ionization Ion Trap Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Isolation and characterization of oligosaccharides from caseinomacropeptide (CMP) are important in understanding the biological and functional properties of CMP. However, it is difficult to achieve this goal, due to the high degree of isomerism present in these types of compounds. In this study, the sialylated oligosaccharides derived from ovine and caprine CMP were released as oligosaccharide alditols by reductive β-elimination and subsequently separated and characterized using graphite carbon column liquid chromatography–negative electrospray ionization ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (LC/ESI(−)-MSn). Although, the chromatographic resolution of isomeric oligosaccharides was not achieved perfectly, the characteristic tandem mass spectra of these compounds allowed differentiating and confirming unequivocally the structure of each one of the oligosaccharides. In CMP of both species, four trisaccharides and four tetrasaccharides were identified as O-glycans. Their chemical structures were identified to be Galβ1-3(NeuAcα2-6)GalNAcol, NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-3GalNAcol, Galβ1-3(NeuGcα2-6)GalNAcol, NeuGcα2-3Galβ1-3GalNAcol, NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-3(NeuGcα2-6)GalNAcol, NeuGcα2-3Galβ1-3(NeuAcα2-6)GalNAcol, NeuAcα2-3Galβ1-3(NeuAcα2-6)GalNAcol, and NeuGcα2-3Galβ1-3(NeuGcα2-6)GalNAcol. The LC/MSn methodology using an ion trap-type mass analyzer shown in this study is of general applicability for determination of short O-glycan oligosaccharides.
