Objective To explore the relation of the puncture position and the optimal indwelling time of intravenous catheter system in different age stage children. Methods Cases of 892 were divided into three groups according to age in pediatric surgery of our hospita: newborn infant, infant and school age child. Then sta-tistical analyze the relation of puncture position and Indwelling time of intravenous catheter system. Results (1) In newborn group, the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system of scalp wein and upper limps wein are longer than lower limbs wein (P< 0. 05). In infant group, the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system of scalp wein longer than upper limps wein, both longer than lower limbs ( P < 0. 05). There were no significant difference in school age child group; (2) Compare the indwelling time of intravenous catheter system in differentage stage children, the school age child is the longest and the infant is longer than infant. Conclusion The optimal puncture position of intravenous catheter system was scalp wein in newborn and infant, hand wein is the best choice in the school age. The optimal indwelling time of intravenous catheter system was about 96 h. Key words: Children; Intravenous catheter system; Indwelling time; Puncture position
