Evaluasi Pelaksanaan Clinical Skills Laboratory berbasis Pembelajaran Jarak Jauh Fakultas Kedokteran Gigi Universitas YARSI

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, all Faculty of Dentistry in Indonesia conducted online theoretical learning. However, the clinical skills learning could not be implemented because it is hampered by limited facilities and infrastructure. Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas YARSI tries to develop a method of implementing a distance learning-based skills laboratory so that the activities can still be carried out. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of a distance learning-based clinical skills laboratory (CSL), Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas YARSI. Methods: The research was conducted with a descriptive observational and cross-sectional study design on all undergraduate students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas YARSI who took part in distance learning-based CSL, by filling out a modified questionnaire. Results: The preparation, implementation, lecturers, and instructors of the distance learning-based CSL have been carried out well and are an alternative to face-to-face learning, students also did not experience significant obstacles in their learning process. Conclusion: The implementation of distance learning-based CSL, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas YARSI can be an option for skills lab that cannot be done face-to-face, by maximizing all methods used, learning objectives can still be achieved.

Eksplorasi Pengaruh Metode Giving Terhadap Keterlibatan Siswa dalam Pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan

This study examines how the giving method impacts student engagement in education at Vocational High Schools (SMK). Using a qualitative approach with case studies, it was found that the Giving approach increased student engagement physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Students became more active, more motivated, and better understood what they were doing. Despite issues such as limited facilities and varying student participation, teachers said classroom interactions were better. The Giving method, which addresses existing issues, has been shown to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

The FIT FIRST 10 dose-response study: evaluation of implementation outcomes

IntroductionIncreasing physical activity (PA) levels among children is critical to mitigate health risks associated with physical inactivity. Schools have been highlighted as ideal setting for promoting PA. However, existing school-based PA programs often face implementation challenges. The FIT FIRST 10 (FF10) multi-sport program has been introduced in Denmark, aiming to increase PA and to enhance children's health, fitness, and well-being. This study evaluates the implementation of the FF10 program for 2nd and 3rd graders.Materials and methodsThe FF10 program was implemented in a 20-week cluster randomized controlled trial across 27 schools. Schools were assigned to a control arm or intervention arms receiving either 3 (full dose) or 1.5 (half dose) FF10 40-min lessons weekly. Teachers received a one-day training session, comprehensive manuals, and necessary equipment. Data were collected from teachers via logbooks documenting implementation fidelity, and an online questionnaire assessing program acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility, and teachers' capability, opportunity, and motivation for implementing the FF10 program.ResultsA total of 18 intervention schools with 36 classes participated in this study. Program fidelity was high in both intervention groups (2.8 and 2.0 session/week for full and half-dose, respectively). Confidence intervals indicated no differences between the two intervention groups for any outcomes. Teachers (n = 32) in both groups rated FF10 moderately acceptable, appropriate, and feasible (3.5–4.0 out of a potential maximum of 5). Both groups exhibited moderate physical and psychological capabilities (3.5–4.0) and high social opportunities (>4.0), but poor motivation scores (<3.5), particularly regarding the perceived benefits and automatization in delivering the FF10 program.ConclusionThe FF10 program was almost delivered as intended, but time constraints, limited facilities, and modest teacher motivation might have hindered implementation. Reducing the program's dosage did not improve implementation outcomes, emphasizing the need for ongoing support to boost teacher motivation and integration of the program into school timetables.

Advokasi Dinas Lingkungan Hidup untuk Meningkatkan Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Pengelolaan Sampah di Kota Padang

This research explains the environmental agency's advocacy to increase community participation in waste management in Padang City as well as the factors inhibiting the environmental agency's advocacy to increase community participation in waste management in Padang City. This study uses a qualitative descriptive methodology. Observations, interviews and documentation studies were used to collect data. Participants selected using purposive sampling included employees from the Padang City Environmental Service, Waste Bank Managers, and the community. To ensure the validity of this research data, source triangulation and method triangulation methods were used, and interactive models were used to analyze the data. The results of the research show that the environmental department has not done much to encourage people to become more involved in waste management in Padang City. Implementation of environmental policy advocacy to increase community participation in waste management aims to build awareness, change behavior and create policies that support effective waste management. Implementation of environmental policy advocacy uses various strategies, including educational outreach, formation of waste banks, collaboration with stakeholders, use of social media and mass media. The inhibiting factors for advocacy in increasing community participation in waste management in Padang City are lack of public awareness and knowledge, limited infrastructure and facilities, limited budget.

Strategi Pemasaran Umkm Warung Nasi Sunda Ibu Titing Melalui Pendekatan Analisis Swot dan Marketing Mix

This study explores the marketing strategy of Warung Nasi Sunda Ibu Titing, a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) that has been operating since 2004 and faces challenges such as intense competition, limited facilities, and low adoption of digital technology. The problem statement revolves around efforts to enhance competitiveness through effective strategies. The research methodology employs a qualitative descriptive approach using SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, complemented by the Marketing Mix (4P) framework to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy. The findings reveal that Warung Nasi Sunda Ibu Titing’s main strengths include a diverse menu, high-quality products, and a strategic location. However, weaknesses such as minimal digital promotion and limited parking facilities pose significant challenges. Opportunities arise from modern culinary trends and government policies supporting MSMEs, which can be leveraged to expand the market. Threats from more innovative competitors and the instability of raw material prices require adaptive strategies. The study concludes by recommending strategies such as expanding digital services through online platforms, enhancing social media promotion, and introducing menu innovations to attract new customer segments. Implementing these strategies is expected to help Warung Nasi Sunda Ibu Titing maintain its presence and improve competitiveness in the culinary market.

Formative Qualitative Research Informs Tailoring SNAP-Ed Curriculum for Transitional Housing Residents.

To modify the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education curriculum based on formative research conducted at a homeless resource center. Researchers interviewed 4 administrators/staff and 5 transitional housing residents. We used a content analysis approach to independently code transcripts, reconcile differences, and identify themes. We adapted the Create Better Health curriculum using these data. Curriculum adaptations included incorporating microwave-friendly recipes because of limited cooking facilities, providing strategies for making healthy food choices at facility-provided meals and convenience/dollar stores frequented by residents, and encouraging residents to exercise at their comfort levels because of common physical limitations. Classes located outside transitional housing units were planned for 60 minutes before and after mealtimes. Adapting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education curriculum to meet the unique needs of transitional housing residents may enable healthy behavioral changes. Further research is required to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of this revised curriculum.

Analysis of the Quality of Facilities and Infrastructure on Student and Lecturer Satisfaction in Private Higher Education Institutions

This research aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of facilities and infrastructure and the satisfaction levels of students and lecturers in Private Higher Education Institutions (PTS). Based on a satisfaction survey conducted, it was found that 78% of students in PTS with complete facilities reported high satisfaction levels, compared to 54% in PTS with limited facilities. The study identifies aspects of user satisfaction, including physical comfort, functionality, aesthetics, and the relevance of facilities to academic needs. Data from 50 respondents indicate that the availability of flexible learning spaces and adequate technological facilities are critical factors. Differences in funding sources and government policies significantly contribute to the disparity in facility quality between the two types of higher education institutions. The enhancement of facilities and infrastructure is not only aimed at increasing student and lecturer satisfaction but also at strengthening the institution's competitiveness in the education market. PTS needs to establish partnerships with the private sector and seek external funding to support facility development. Furthermore, a data-driven approach in policy formulation is expected to create a conducive academic environment that supports improved academic performance. By understanding the factors influencing user satisfaction, institutions can design appropriate strategies to enhance the quality of facilities and infrastructure, thereby benefiting all stakeholders in higher education

Strategi Guru dalam Menciptakan Sekolah Ramah Anak

This research aims to explore the strategies implemented by teachers in creating child-friendly schools. The main focus of this research is to identify various efforts made by teachers, the obstacles they face, and the solutions developed to address the challenges in realizing a school that is truly responsive to the needs and rights of children. The research method used is a qualitative case study, with data collection through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews at selected elementary schools. The main participants in this study are teachers, school principals, and representatives of parents. The research results show that teachers have implemented various strategies to create child-friendly schools, such as: (1) Creating a safe, comfortable, and supportive learning environment for children’s development; (2) Developing a curriculum that is responsive to children’s rights; (3) Implementing interactive and student-centered learning methods; and (4) Establishing good cooperation with parents and the community. However, in its implementation, teachers also face several obstacles, such as limited facilities, high workloads, and some parents who still do not understand the concept of child-friendly schools. The school has been striving to overcome these obstacles through: (1) Optimizing the use of existing facilities; (2) Training and mentoring for teachers; and (3) Actively involving parents in school activities.

Transformasi MIM Bolon menjadi MIM Digdaya Bolon: Langkah Strategis dalam Meningkatkan Kualitas Pendidikan

The transformation of MIM Bolon into MIM Digdaya Bolon is a strategic step to improve the quality of education at the basic level through comprehensive changes, not only in the name aspect, but also the curriculum, management and teaching methods. This article examines this transformation process using a qualitative approach and case studies to analyze the steps taken and their impact on the quality of education. This research found that the name change to "Digdaya", which means strength to rise, serves as a symbol of the institution's efforts to improve the quality of education, introduce technology, and increase teacher competency. Apart from that, this transformation also involves developing relevant curricula, better educational facilities, and increasing collaboration with parents and the community. Even though it is faced with challenges such as limited human resources and facilities, MIM Digdaya Bolon has succeeded in creating a learning environment that is innovative and relevant to current developments. The positive impact of this transformation is reflected in the increasing number of students, learning motivation, academic achievement, as well as a more active role of parents in supporting children's education. In this way, MIM Digdaya Bolon has succeeded in improving the quality of education provided for future generations.

Penerapan Islamic Worldview dalam Pembelajaran di MI Muhammadiyah Ngasem

Character education has an important role in forming individuals who are not only intellectually intelligent, but also have noble character. Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has a strategic role in developing the character of students, by integrating Islamic values ​​in all aspects of life. One of the approaches used is the application of the Islamic Worldview, which includes the Islamic perspective on God, humans, the universe, and relationships between people. This article discusses the application of the Islamic Worldview in learning at MI Muhammadiyah Ngasem, which aims to shape the character of students who are superior both academically and spiritually. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study at MI Muhammadiyah Ngasem, which involves observation, interviews and document analysis. The research results show that the application of Islamic Worldview through the integration of Islamic values ​​in the curriculum, moral education, balanced self-development, and Islamic extracurricular activities has a positive impact on increasing noble morals, empathy, social awareness, responsibility in learning, as well as increasing cooperation and tolerance. . However, there are challenges related to educators' understanding of the Islamic Worldview concept, difficulties in integrating Islamic values ​​in the existing curriculum, lack of student readiness and parental involvement in the learning process, difficulties in implementing contextual education, as well as limited learning facilities and resources.

The Impact of Covid-19 on Tourism - (A Case Study of Deoghar)

The COVID-19 pandemic severely disrupted tourism in Deoghar, causing unprecedented economic and social challenges. Field survey data revealed that 76% of respondents experienced significant impact, with 70% of businesses completely shutting down and 36% of individuals experiencing total income cessation. The pandemic triggered a comprehensive economic breakdown, affecting small businesses, religious tourism, and local livelihoods. Transport services halted, tourist movements restricted, and local economic ecosystems collapsed. Deoghar, already identified as one of the most COVID-vulnerable districts in India, faced compounded challenges due to poor infrastructure and limited healthcare facilities. The tourism sector experienced a dramatic decline, with religious events like Shravani Mela and Kanwar Yatra canceled, further exacerbating economic distress. The pandemic's ripple effects extended beyond immediate economic losses, undermining social interactions, cultural exchanges, and community resilience. Recovery strategies must prioritize innovative approaches, infrastructure development, and comprehensive support mechanisms to rebuild the tourism ecosystem

Studi Analisis Epistemologi dan Aksiologi dalam Penerapan Metode Langsung pada Pembelajaran Bahasa Arab di Markaz Qur’an dan Bahasa Arab Isy Karima Karangpandan Karanganyar

This research aims to analyze the epistemology and axiology dimensions in the application of direct method (al-Thariqah al-Mubasyirah) in Arabic language learning at Markaz Qur'an and Arabic Language Isy Karima, Karangpandan. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three resource persons who are ustadz, direct observation of the learning process, and analysis of relevant curriculum documents. The results showed that epistemologically, the direct method provides contextual and relevant understanding of Arabic through direct practice, active interaction, and the use of props. Santri are directly involved in the learning process without relying on the mother tongue, which strengthens the mastery of vocabulary and grammar naturally. Axiologically, this method builds students' Arabic communication competence while increasing their religious awareness through understanding the Qur'an and Hadith. In addition, this method creates a conducive learning environment (bi'ah lughawiyah), supports social interaction in Arabic, and builds santri's confidence in communication. However, this study also found some challenges in implementing the direct method, such as limited learning facilities and the need for further training for ustadz in more varied teaching strategies. Therefore, it is recommended to improve facilities, training for ustadz, and collaboration with parents to strengthen santri learning outcomes. This study confirms that the direct method can be developed as a superior approach in Arabic language learning, especially in Islamic educational institutions such as Markaz Qur'an and Isy Karima Arabic.

Patient-Reported Perception of Exercise and Receptiveness to Mobile Technology in Cancer Survivors Living in Rural and Remote Areas

Purpose: Cancer survivors in rural and underserved areas face barriers such as limited access to oncology exercise programs and limited facilities, contributing to health inequities in cancer survivorship. This study explored cancer survivors’ thoughts on exercise and mobile technology for exercising with a mobile application (app) during and after treatment in rural and remote areas. Methods: Three online focus groups were conducted in February 2024 using semi-structured interviews with 12 open-ended questions. Eligible participants were adult cancer survivors or caregivers living in medically underserved areas, English-speaking, consented to being audiotaped, and attended one 60-min group interview. The discussions were transcribed verbatim and analyzed via a content analysis approach with consensus. Results: Fifteen participants attended from four States. None of the participants were advised to exercise; availability of exercise resources depended on geographic location and a cancer-specific exercise app was desired. They understood the benefits of exercise after diagnosis but expressed a need for more guidance during treatment. Geographic location shaped their activities, with most engaging in daily physical tasks rather than structured exercise. Most participants were receptive to using an exercise app to manage fatigue. Suggested key features to exercise with an app included live trainers, exercise checklists, visual benchmarks, and programs tailored to different fitness levels. Conclusions: These results emphasize the need for personalized resources, guidance, and on-demand accessibility to an exercise oncology app. A cancer-specific exercise mobile app will mitigate health inequities for cancer survivors residing in rural and remote areas.

Are Toll Facility Travelers Aware of Their Toll?

In 2022, the North Central Texas Council of Governments in the U.S. conducted a survey to explore the social equity and travel behavior of Texas residents who used one of six limited access facilities in the Dallas-Fort Worth region: two toll roads, two managed lanes (MLs), and two general purpose lanes. Driver characteristics and trip information were collected, including trip purpose and toll awareness. Surprisingly, 82% of the toll facility users did not know how much they paid in tolls for their trips. The median willingness to pay (WTP) of ML drivers who knew the toll amount was much higher than that of drivers who did not know their toll amount. This study employed a binary choice model to examine toll awareness and toll facility use. It was found that travelers’ awareness of tolls differed by many trip characteristics such as toll price, toll discount, owning a toll tag (prepaid payment), travel time, and trip purpose. Lower toll prices and employers who subsidized the toll payment led to lower likelihood of being toll-aware. Conversely, possessing a toll tag and longer travel time increased the likelihood of being toll-aware. Travelers taking home-based work trips were more likely to know their toll, highlighting the habitual nature of these trips and the significance of route planning in commuter behavior.

PENGEMBANGAN SENI BACA AL-QUR’AN PADA SURAT AL-FATIHAH DI DESA SIREJA, BANTEN, JAWA BARAT

This study aims to analyze and develop teaching methods for the art of Qur'anic recitation, specifically for Surah Al-Fatihah, in Sireja Village, Banten. This village has a large Muslim population with a high enthusiasm for learning the Qur'an; however, it still faces challenges in the application of tajwid rules and the aesthetics of tilawah due to the lack of competent teachers and limited learning facilities. This research employs the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) method. The empowerment stages include enculturation, discovery, sketching, defining, and introspection. In the mentoring process, the Tikrar method is applied to improve the children's recitation quality through repetition and talaqqi approaches.. The program demonstrated positive results, with improvements in children's recitation quality, as indicated by evaluations of their articulation of makhrajul huruf and the application of recitation melodies. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to improving the quality of Qur'anic recitation in the Sireja Village community, strengthening the understanding of tajwid rules, and providing an effective and applicable learning model for the community. Thus, this research can serve as a recommendation for the sustainable development of Qur'anic education at the local level.

A pilot study on diabetes detection using handheld fundus camera and mobile app development

BackgroundDiabetes, affecting more than 500 million individuals worldwide, is the most widespread non-communicable disease, globally. The early identification and effective management of diabetes are crucial for controlling its spread. Currently, the HbA1c test is the gold standard for the detection of diabetes with high confidence. But this is an invasive, expensive pathology test. Therefore, alternative non-invasive and inexpensive methods have been proposed in the literature for the early detection of diabetes.MethodsIn this pilot study, we used a handheld fundus camera that simplifies the accessibility issue for doctors and patients in underprivileged communities, remote areas, enabling a quick and reasonably accurate diabetes diagnosis process. We invited participants from the community to share their demographic information, history of diabetes, and captured their retinal fundus images using the oDocs Nun IR handheld non-mydriatic fundus camera in a non-invasive manner (no dilation is required). Subsequently, we developed a deep learning model for early diagnosis of diabetes based on fundus image only. Moreover, we created an Android-based mobile application, DMPred, which utilizes the fundus images to predict the onset of diabetes.ResultsThe proposed model achieved an 86.4% accuracy rate in diabetes detection showing that handheld cameras can be effective and provide comparable results like tabletop cameras in the early diagnosis of diabetes. We also provide a comprehensive guideline, including necessary steps for transforming deep learning models into Android-based mobile applications for tech transfer.ConclusionsTo the best of our knowledge, this article is the first demonstration of diabetes diagnosis using handheld fundus camera and mobile app. We believe that this pilot study and the proposed tech solution will support the larger community with limited clinical facilities and enhance the accessibility of technology for diabetes detection.

Platform Merdeka Mengajar: Tantangan dan Hambatan Guru di SMA IT Izzatuna

The Merdeka Mengajar Platform is an innovation by the Ministry of Education and Culture aimed at assisting teachers in teaching according to students' abilities, providing training to enhance competence, and creating work to inspire colleagues. This research aims to analyze the challenges and obstacles faced by teachers at SMA IT Izzatuna in using the Merdeka Mengajar Platform. This platform is part of the Merdeka Belajar policy, which is expected to help teachers improve the quality of teaching and access to educational resources. However, in its implementation, several challenges arise, including limited technological facilities, lack of training, and varying levels of digital literacy among teachers. This research employs a qualitative method with in-depth interviews as the data collection technique, involving teachers at SMA IT Izzatuna as the main respondents. The results indicate that while the Merdeka Mengajar Platform offers benefits in terms of flexibility and accessibility of learning materials, technical obstacles and the lack of training support are significant barriers. Therefore, further efforts are needed from both schools and the government to overcome these challenges so that the platform can be used optimally.

Bridging the gap: An outlook of oncofertility care in Africa.

This article examines existing literature on oncofertility in Africa and explores the barriers to oncofertility care. Patient-level barriers include lack of awareness about fertility preservation options, financial constraints, and the heavy emotional burden of cancer diagnosis and treatment. Healthcare-provider barriers encompass lack of awareness, prioritization of prompt cancer treatment, and implicit biases. Health-system barriers include limited facilities that can provide assisted reproductive technologies, limited insurance coverage for oncofertility services, weak referral systems, and the absence of national guidelines on oncofertility care. Socio-cultural barriers include religious objections, misinformation contributing to mistrust of fertility preservation options, and ethical dilemmas related to discussing future fertility with cancer patients whose primary focus is survival or with pediatric patients. This article also explores ways of improving oncofertility care in the region. These include educational initiatives for healthcare providers, capacity building, incorporation of oncofertility services into national cancer control programs, development of a centralized referral system, telemedicine, and increasing awareness to cancer patients.

Early Predictive Value of Laboratory Inflammatory Markers in Evaluating Both Lung Involvement and Progression in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19

Background The new coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2, first discovered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, rapidly spread over the globe. It has created many challenges for the world's health and treatment systems. Due to the outspread of this virus and the limited treatment facilities, one of the important issues is the early diagnosis of patients who may continue to suffer from a severe type of disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between hospitalized COVID-19 patients' computed tomography (CT) scan results and laboratory results such as neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR). Methods We created this retrospective study to investigate the relationship between the CT scan results of COVID-19 patients and laboratory results such as NLR and PLR ratios. We randomly sampled individuals whose hospitalization records from Shahada Kargar Hospital in Yazd in 2021 showed a positive COVID-19 test diagnosis. Results During this investigation, 17% of patients were hospitalized in the intensive care unit, and around 7% of patients passed away. These prognostic values have had a significant relationship with the mean NLR and (P = 0.004). In addition, this NLR laboratory index indicated a considerable positive correlation coefficient with the CT scan score (P = 0.014). Conclusions Our results reflect the significant predictive ability of NLR and PLR ratios regarding the prognosis of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Imaging findings use the CT scan score as an indicator to predict the amount of NLR. In this way, the results of preliminary laboratory tests and imaging can determine the affected patient's progress to a large extent.

Autoencoder based data clustering for identifying anomalous repetitive hand movements, and behavioral transition patterns in children.

The analysis of repetitive hand movements and behavioral transition patterns holds particular significance in detecting atypical behaviors in early child development. Early recognition of these behaviors holds immense promise for timely interventions, which can profoundly impact a child's well-being and future prospects. However, the scarcity of specialized medical professionals and limited facilities has made detecting these behaviors and unique patterns challenging using traditional manual methods. This highlights the necessity for automated tools to identify anomalous repetitive hand movements and behavioral transition patterns in children. Our study aimed to develop an automated model for the early identification of anomalous repetitive hand movements and the detection of unique behavioral patterns. Utilizing autoencoders, self-similarity matrices, and unsupervised clustering algorithms, we analyzed skeleton and image-based features, repetition count, and frequency of repetitive child hand movements. This approach aimed to distinguish between typical and atypical repetitive hand movements of varying speeds, addressing data limitations through dimension reduction. Additionally, we aimed to categorize behaviors into clusters beyond binary classification. Through experimentation on three datasets (Hand Movements in Wild, Updated Self-Stimulatory Behaviours, Autism Spectrum Disorder), our model effectively differentiated between typical and atypical hand movements, providing insights into behavioral transitional patterns. This aids the medical community in understanding the evolving behaviors in children. In conclusion, our research addresses the need for early detection of atypical behaviors through an automated model capable of discerning repetitive hand movement patterns. This innovation contributes to early intervention strategies for neurological conditions.
