AbstractThe concept of tunable white lighting panels is gaining great interest in the lighting design and applications space. One approach to a tunable white lighting panel is to fabricate RGB monochrome stripes and control each of the stripes with separate current drivers. In this paper we will detail the design of our tunable white light sources and discuss approaches for the fabrication of such panels. We will also report most recent performance of a 15cm x 15cm color tunable (2,700K to 4,000K) RGB striped panel with the panel efficacy = 41 lm/W and CCT=2, 700K at 1,000 cd/m2 without outcoupling enhancement. With 1.5x outcoupling enhancement, the panel efficacy achieves 63 lm/W at 1,000 cd/m2. At 2,500 cd/m2, the panel efficacy is 32 lm/W with CCT=3,000K. With an outcoupling enhancement of 1.6x, the panel efficacy is 52 lm/W at 2,500 cd/m2.
