A novel luminescent 3D polymer containing silver chains formed by ligand unsupported Ag–Ag interactions and organic spacers

A luminescent polymer [{Ag(H2btc)2}{Ag2(Hbtc)}]n with weak semiconductivity has been synthesized; structural analysis shows that the polymer possesses a 3D structure which contains silver chains formed by ligand unsupported Ag–Ag interactions and carboxylate spacers.

Synthesis and crystal structures of two infinite molecular ladders Ag(4,4′-bpy)X (X = MeCO 2·3H 2O or H 2PO 4·H 3PO 4): function of hydrogen-bonding interaction

Two new ladder motifs of [Ag(4,4′-bpy)] ∞ (4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridine) sidepieces that are linked by ligand-supported or ligand-unsupported Ag⋯Ag rungs have been crystallographically documented in [Ag(4,4′-bpy)( μ 2-O 2CMe)] n ·3 nH 2O 1 and [Ag(4,4′-bpy)] n (H 2PO 4) n ·(H 3PO 4) n 2, respectively; both compounds were synthesized from the self-assembly of silver(I) salts with 4,4′-bpy. The ladders in both complexes are stacked into layers, which are further interconnected by the hydrogen-bonding nets formed by the counterions and water (or H 3PO 4) molecules, resulting in two three-dimensional networks.

A staggered arrangement like that of the hydrogen atoms in ethane is exhibited by the six phenol groups about each pair of silver atoms in the self-assembled three-dimensional coordination networks [Ag(2)(H(2)L)(3)](n)X(2n) (H(2)L=N,N'-bis(salicylidene)-1,4-diaminobutane; X(-)=NO(3)(-) or ClO(4)(-)); the former is depicted (for clarity the H(2)L ligands are represented by long rods and the Ag atoms by hatched circles). These solids contain short ligand-unsupported metal-metal bonds and display intense blue photoluminescence at room temperature.
