Artificial intelligence and project management maturity: A study of selected project-based organizations in Pakistan

Artificial intelligence (AI) is significantly impacting modern project management (PM) nowadays, especially as it begins to be integrated into business applications. This study focused on evaluating the readiness for AI implementation and the maturity level of PM in selected project-oriented organizations in Pakistan. Data from 12 such organizations were gathered through focus groups to examine the status of AI readiness and PM maturity and to explore their association. The methods used included exploratory data analysis and research on extreme cases. The findings indicated that AI readiness was relatively high in areas of governance and legal aspects but lower in solution development. Conversely, PM maturity was found to be higher in PM but less developed in program and portfolio management. Analysis of extreme cases suggested a positive relationship between AI readiness and PM maturity, supporting the idea that AI can enhance PM. These findings are crucial both for theoretical understanding and practical application.

Research on Performance Evaluation of Full Process Cost Management in Expressway Projects

The research purpose of this article is to optimize the performance evaluation of cost management throughout the entire process of highway projects. Currently, China's highway construction is booming, but cost management is complex and requires the construction of a scientific performance evaluation system to comprehensively supervise and evaluate engineering costs. This article used literature induction method for literature review, followed by expert scoring method to assign scores to indicators, and finally used Analytic Hierarchy Process to determine indicator weights. From the results, this study identified key factors that affect the overall cost management performance of highway projects, and constructed relevant evaluation models and weight hierarchy tables. Therefore, the results of this article are helpful in accurately controlling project costs, evaluating benefits, and optimizing fund management, which is of great significance for improving the level of highway project management and investment return rate.

Tensions between the political, institutional, and project levels when developing professional digital competence in teacher education. A cultural historical activity theory analysis of inhibiting and facilitating factors

ABSTRACT This study is a Cultural Historical Activity Theory analysis of the tensions between object and motive at the political, institutional and project management levels for five digitalisation projects aimed at integrating professional digital competence (PDC) in Norwegian teacher education (TE). The study is inspired by ethnography and builds on a variety of qualitative data (including qualitative interviews (N = 14)) gathered through the author’s participation in different roles (2017–2021). Identifying objects and motives across levels allows for the identification of factors inhibiting and facilitating factors the development of PDC in TE. An analytical model was developed to identify the objects and motives at each level, showing a political object of preparing for the future, an institutional object of creating high quality TE, and a project management object of delivering a lasting impact on TE. These differing objects and motives guide the activities at each level and reveal tension, including between the political push for change, project management’s attempts to deliver impact, and a culture built on academic freedom which seems counterproductive by slowing things down. The study also reveals facilitating factors, such as funding and relevance in collaboration with schools, and inhibiting factors like academic freedom and the expected speed of change.

Research on Clustering of Material Inspection Data for Highway Construction Projects Based on Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering

In large-scale highway construction projects, the project implementers will carry out detailed testing of various material indicators used in the project. By processing and analyzing these material testing data, we can reasonably classify large-scale highway construction projects, so that each project implementer can better manage the quality of the materials, which will greatly help all parties to strengthen the quality control of the project and improve the level of project management. This study first preprocesses the material testing data to obtain a structured data set suitable for data analysis. Then statistical features are constructed for the features in the dataset, including maximum, minimum, mean, median and standard deviation, to improve the performance and accuracy of the model. Next, the clustering hierarchical clustering method is applied for classification and the classification results are visualized in the form of dendrograms. Finally, through the comparison of performance analysis and clustering evaluation indexes, it is concluded that the classification of works into 3 or 4 categories according to material performance is in line with the actual level of engineering quality.

Usage of Hybrid Project Management Approaches and Influences on Approach Selection

Changes in technologies and practitioner approaches to project management have led to a mix known as hybrid. This research identifies approaches practitioners currently use and determines possible influences on how a project manager selects an approach for a project. Four hundred participants completed a survey questionnaire to help identify methodologies in use. Additionally, participants reviewed a list of 39 specific project management tools and techniques to indicate their level of use for each of them. Our findings indicate that few project managers exclusively employ agile methodologies without the incorporation of predictive techniques and tools. Chi-square analysis was used to analyze industry, project manager experience level, and type of project to determine the influence on approach selection. The results showed that industry and type of project were important to selection, but a project manager's level of experience was not. A qualitative analysis identified two additional important factors of company policy and team experience. Overall, the study supported that there is no best approach to managing projects, but hybrid is emerging as a predominant approach to exploit the benefits of multiple approaches. Additionally, the data implies a need for greater support, resources, or education to facilitate the successful implementation and longevity of adaptive project management approaches.

The Role of Digital Technologies in the Project Management Implementation Based on the Intellectual and Innovative Development of the Enterprise

Current trends of post-industrial development lead to the intensification of the use of digital technologies in multi-vector processes of social development. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the role of digital technologies in the project management implementation on the basis of intellectually innovative development of the enterprise using the methodology of an integrated approach. The methodological basis of the research is emphasized, which includes the methodology of an integrated approach and the separation of the principles of the application of digital technologies in the implementation of project management, namely, purposefulness, adequacy, systematicity, effectiveness, efficiency, influence, security, viability and social orientation. The advantages of using digital technologies in the project management of enterprises are highlighted for all levels of project management, which includes the upper levels of enterprise management, covering the strategic level of management, project management, which provides direct management of specific projects and the project team, that is, the level of project implementation. The functional tasks of the use of digital technologies in the project management implementation based on the intellectual and innovative development of the enterprise have been clarified.

Management mode and path of digital transformation of power grid enterprises based on artificial intelligence algorithm

Facing the arrival of the digital transformation (DT) era, power grid enterprises are currently grappling with pressures arising from economic cycles and structural factors, and for them, the integration and development of energy revolution and digital revolution are intertwined. At this stage, people have increasing requirements for power service quality. However, electric power enterprises (EPEs) are unable to meet such demands because of several limitations, such as the surge of power grid operation risk, insufficient systematic service level and unreasonable enterprise architecture. DT is an effective way for EPEs to improve their management and service level. Power grid enterprises should follow the trend of digital development and actively carry out DT. In simulating the operation of the power system, the first step is to establish a grid connection between the simulated generator and the simulated power grid. This involves adjusting the generator excitation to regulate the generator voltage and adjusting the output of the prime mover to regulate the generator frequency. This study explored the management mode and implementation path of DT of EPEs, proposed the DT management mode of EPEs based on artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and conducted an experimental research. The research showed that the average of the four- month informatisation project management level index of the enterprise S simulation model was 3.02 % higher than that of the four-month informatisation project management level index of the enterprise T simulation model. The average value of the operation and maintenance (O&M) and service management index of the enterprise S simulation model was 3.14 % higher than that of the enterprise T simulation model. The improvement of the management level index and the average O&M of simulation models can enhance the operational efficiency of enterprises and provide them with clear development directions. The average value of production security management index, network security management index and data asset management index of the enterprise S simulation model was higher than those of the enterprise T simulation model. The DT management mode of power grid enterprises based on AI algorithms is an effective driving force for power supply enterprises to achieve modernisation and standardised development.

Problems and Countermeasures in the Application of Computer Technology in Project Management

In the context of rapid socio-economic development, engineering projects have gradually achieved remarkable results, for engineering projects, the project volume is relatively large, the overall construction period is long, the management of the implementation of the management work is more difficult, and at the same time for engineering projects, the quality of the project is often more stringent requirements. Therefore, when carrying out management work in engineering projects, computer application technology should be actively utilized to promote the overall level of project management to ensure management quality and management efficiency. In this paper, the importance of computer technology in engineering project management and the use of elaboration, at the same time, in the process of engineering project management deficiencies in the analysis and put forward the corresponding measures.

What Are the Factors Influence on Construction Safety? A Review

Because of resource constraints, construction safety management is more difficult in underdeveloped nations. The aim of this paper is to explore and identify the key factors affecting construction site safety performance. The first step in this study was a systematic assessment of 98 papers using a content qualitative approach. From this review, 12 influential factors for safety performance in construction projects were identified. Second, a framework was developed to illustrate the interactions between the identified factors at various project management levels. Furthermore, expert interviews were used to validate the framework. The findings of this study will help project managers better understand how different important safety issues at different construction project hierarchies affect the safety performance of the sites.

Research on quality engineering management effectiveness improvement strategy of universities based on fuzzy clustering maximum tree algorithm

Abstract The “quality project” is an objective need to promote the comprehensive and coordinated development of higher education and cultivate high-quality talents. Based on the fuzzy clustering maximum tree algorithm, this paper first generates the maximum tree for a similar matrix and then clusters the maximum tree to find the clustering results. Then the idea of fuzzy clustering maximum tree algorithm is introduced into the management of “quality engineering” in Heilongjiang province colleges and universities, and the necessity of project management in the management of “quality engineering” in colleges and universities is analyzed, so that the knowledge related to project management can be applied in the construction of “quality engineering” in colleges and universities. “The results show that project quality management has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. The results show that there are problems such as weak awareness of quality management among all staff, unclear construction objectives and quality construction standards, and a lack of effective project monitoring and evaluation mechanism in project quality management. During the experimental period, the groundwater level was 0.4~0.7m below the surface, and the global risk level decreased from 5 to 3 along with the deep excavation of the foundation pit, and the risk probability of the foundation pit project became larger with time and finally stabilized at 60%. The research of this paper is helpful to improve the project management level of “quality engineering” in universities and promote the transformation of “quality engineering” results, which has certain practicality and guidance.

Application Status of Engineering Management in the Construction Field

With the development of the real estate industry, the take-off of the construction industry has also caused more and more capital to pour into the construction industry, driving the rapid development of the construction industry, but also causing the construction industry to face great competitive pressure. In order to achieve effective management of construction projects, this article aims to point out the main problems in Chinas construction management and improve the construction project management system and improve construction technology, which is conducive to improving the operational level and construction quality of construction projects. Currently, there is a lack of effective information communication and coordination mechanisms within the construction units of construction projects, which can lead to slow progress and low efficiency in the construction of construction projects, which will greatly increase the implementation difficulty of construction projects and restrict the improvement of enterprise construction project management level. Thus, it is important to improve the role of construction project management in the construction industry, and it is necessary to figure out the inner problems and strengthen the management of construction projects. The articles main purpose is to focus on the current situation and development reality of construction project management, specific research is conducted on its management and control optimization from the perspective of engineering management, to provide a reference for modern management and optimization of construction projects management.

Dark side of blockchain technology adoption in SMEs: an Indian perspective

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to understand the dark side of blockchain technology (BCT) adoption in small and mid-size enterprises. The focus of the authors is to decode the intricate relationship among the selected variables missing in the existing literature.Design/methodology/approachA focused group approach is initiated by the authors to identify the barriers. Total interpretive structural modeling, Matrice d'impacts croisés multiplication appliquée á un classment, that is, matrix multiplication applied to classification and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory are used to analyze the complex relationships among identified barriers.FindingsThis study finds that implementation of BCT reduces maintenance cost by withdrawing manual effort, as BCT has better capability to quantify the internal status of the system (observability characteristic). The observability characteristic of BCT provides high compatibility to the system. This study also finds that the compatibility of BCT with the organization reduces implementation cost and facilitates project management. The findings of this study recommend analyzing maintenance cost and compatibility of BCT before implementing it. Small and mid-size enterprises can select complex BCT depending on the sophistication level of IT usage and IT project management capabilities.Research limitations/implicationsThis study comes with various limitations, where the model developed by the authors may not be conclusive, as it is based exclusively on expert opinion. The samples collected may not help in validating the model statistically. Though the model has its limitations, it can still be considered as a nascent initiative for further investigation using structural equation modeling.Originality/valueThe outcomes of the theoretical and managerial contributions of the study can be categorized into three levels. This study can be used both by the industrialists and researchers to understand the barriers and the recovery methods thereafter. Suggestions that serve as future directives are also discussed by the authors.

Safety accident analysis of power transmission and substation projects based on association rule mining.

To achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of power transmission and substation project construction, statistical analysis was used to provide an outline of safety accidents, the 4M1E method was applied for sorting out and analyzing the risk factors, and the Apriori algorithm was carried out for exploring the intrinsic interaction among risk factors based on association rule mining. The results showed that the safety accidents that happen in the construction of power transmission and substation projects were not much frequent, but deadly; the process of foundation construction and high fall was the most accident-prone process and injury type respectively. In addition, human behaviors were the foremost factors leading to accidents, and there was a strong correlation among the risk factors of low project management level, lack of safety awareness, and poor risk identification ability. For improving the security situation, measures should be taken for controlling human factors, performing flexible management, and strengthening safety training. In further research, more detailed and diversified accident reports and case data should be analyzed, and more consideration should be put on the weighted risk factor analysis to obtain more comprehensive and objective safety accident analysis results for power transmission and substation projects. This study highlights the risks in power transmission and substation project construction and introduces a novel method for better analyzing the intrinsic interaction among risk factors, which provides theoretical support for related departments to conduct sustainable safety management.

Intelligent System of Internet of Things-Oriented BIM in Project Management

At present, edge computing is more and more widely used in the development process of various industries. With the stable development of social industrial structure, the development scale of enterprises is gradually expanding, the project production cycle is getting longer and longer, and the project information and project elements are also getting more and more. Under the traditional project management mode, the project elements are independent from each other, the participants are difficult to interact, and the information content is relatively dispersed, which has seriously hindered the improvement of the efficiency and level of enterprise project management. The emergence of intelligent the BIM (building information modeling) project management system provides technical support for the realization of the overall project management objectives, but there are still large limitations in actual use, mainly reflected in the poor flexibility of attraction and error prone. In order to solve the dilemma of enterprise project management, based on the analysis of the characteristics of project management and the functional requirements of the system, this article proposes an intelligent system of BIM in project management oriented to the internet of things. In order to verify the effectiveness of the system, this article conducts system tests from the aspects of project management efficiency, system security, and user experience. The results show that the average intelligent system error level of internet of things-oriented BIM in project management is about 0.310. It can be seen from this result that, on the basis of internet of things technology, various project elements and information within the system have achieved effective integration and promoted the deep intelligent development of project management.

Balancing renewable energy and river resources by moving from individual assessments of hydropower projects to energy system planning

As governments and non-state actors strive to minimize global warming, a primary strategy is the decarbonization of power systems which will require a massive increase in renewable electricity generation. Leading energy agencies forecast a doubling of global hydropower capacity as part of that necessary expansion of renewables. While hydropower provides generally low-carbon generation and can integrate variable renewables, such as wind and solar, into electrical grids, hydropower dams are one of the primary reasons that only one-third of the world’s major rivers remain free-flowing. This loss of free-flowing rivers has contributed to dramatic declines of migratory fish and sediment delivery to agriculturally productive deltas. Further, the reservoirs behind dams have displaced tens of millions of people. Thus, hydropower challenges the world’s efforts to meet climate targets while simultaneously achieving other Sustainable Development Goals. In this paper, we explore strategies to achieve the needed renewable energy expansion while sustaining the diverse social and environmental benefits of rivers. These strategies can be implemented at scales ranging from the individual project (environmental flows, fish passage and other site-level mitigation) to hydropower cascades to river basins and regional electrical power systems. While we review evidence that project-level management and mitigation can reduce environmental and social costs, we posit that the most effective scale for finding balanced solutions occurs at the scale of power systems. We further hypothesize that the pursuit of solutions at the system scale can also provide benefits for investors, developers and governments; evidence of benefits to these actors will be necessary for achieving broad uptake of the approaches described in this paper. We test this hypothesis through cases from Chile and Uganda that demonstrate the potential for system-scale power planning to allow countries to meet low-carbon energy targets with power systems that avoid damming high priority rivers (e.g., those that would cause conflicts with other social and environmental benefits) for a similar system cost as status quo approaches. We also show that, through reduction of risk and potential conflict, strategic planning of hydropower site selection can improve financial performance for investors and developers, with a case study from Colombia.

Using GQIM Model and Gompertz Model to Measure, Analyze, and Optimize the Whole Process of Software Project

This paper proposes a novel concept of using defect management technology to measure, predict, and optimize the management of the entire software project cycle. It first utilizes the software defect measurement GQIM model and prediction Gompertz model to track and quantify the defects of the entire project cycle. Then, the specific optimization strategy is proposed to manage the core processes of the project management, including project scope management, project time management, project quality management, project human resource management, project communication management, and project risk management. This study solves the quantification problems that are common in the current software project management process, such as complex testing procedures, high defect repair costs, and high communication costs. Furthermore, it contributes to promote the overall level of project management in the software industry. Taking the SDLM’s electronic banking software project management as an example, the various management quality indicators before and after the optimization of the project management process strongly indicate that using software defect management technology to optimize the software project management process is feasible and effective.

Comparative Evaluation of the Effectiveness of High- tech Project Management: the Experience of Japan, Israel and Kazakhstan

The practical implementation of high-tech projects is becoming essential and relevant throughout the world in the era of the digitalisation of various industries. The successful completion of high-tech projects will indeed support the development of domestic markets and the economy's competitiveness. It should be noted that high-tech projects involve breakthrough technologies and innovations, which, in turn, need effective management. This research aims to assess the relationship between the project management application processes and the effectiveness of projects in the industrial sector of countries such as Japan, Israel and Kazakhstan. The main focus of this paper is analysing high-tech project management in the engineering, green production, chemical and atomic sectors of these three countries. As a result, Japan is ahead of Israel and Kazakhstan. This research also contains an assessment of the maturity levels of project management of the chosen countries. The study used a systematic literature review, comparative analysis, quantitative data collection methods through interviews, statistical analysis and modelling. As a result, data were obtained on the project performance level in the selected countries, and approaches to managing high-tech projects in the industrial sector were proposed. A process methodology that may be implemented as a map for each set of projects has been created by assessing necessary success steps for high-tech projects. The study also recommends the number of instruments and techniques for Kazakhstan's high-tech project management. According to the findings of the statistical study, their application in the management of high-tech development will help the project be successfully completed.

Sustainability-Oriented Innovation Foresight in International New Technology Based Firms

Rapid technological advances give rise to the development of New Technology-Based Firms (NTBFs) which are focused on technology-based business models. One of the concerns is the changing pace of technology adoption and its impact on shortening the life cycle of goods and services based on technology. Technology tends to create more integration among communities, businesses, goods, and services. This integration can be seen in the substantial increase of firms, especially NTBFs, striving to improve international relations. In this regard, addressing the sustainability dimensions in light of technological change is of universal interest. Some studies highlight the role of technology in terms of its environmental impacts, whereas others describe technology as the main driving force of businesses towards innovation, which can lead to sustainability. This paper aims to examine international NTBFs to determine the factors, key drivers, and uncertainties impacting sustainability-oriented innovations concerning their encounter with technology and ultimately plan future scenarios for international NTBFs based on sustainability-oriented innovations. The description of the scenarios shows the importance of innovation development in digital technologies and the expansion of international relations, which is realized by using digital platforms. In addition to accelerating knowledge and innovation development to gain more key partners, we would observe target market expansion, cost reduction, and sustainability growth for international NTBFs. Identifying drivers and uncertainties and the future-oriented approach of this research provide insight to International NTBFs owners into realizing sustainability-oriented innovation by increasing their awareness of the opportunities and interventions to build capacity at the conceptualization and project management levels.

Object-Oriented Technology Model of Regional Industrial Economic Innovation Project Management System.

Managers have a deeper understanding of computer technology, network technology, and communication technology, which is also a necessary condition for the implementation of project management information. It plays an important role in improving the performance of regional resource-based industry and high-tech service industry. By analyzing the current situation of the company's project management, the project management and management processes are standardized and the management of project quality, progress, contract, and cost through the design system is completed, so that the various resources of the project can be effectively and rationally allocated and utilized. Information communication inside and outside the project is more convenient, smooth, and fast, and more standardized operating procedures can be carried out. This paper also improves the level of local government governance, shapes the cultural connotation of innovation, openness, and cooperation, and strengthens the cultivation and flow of social elements. A series of policy suggestions are put forward in building the capacity system of both sides of industrial integration, thus greatly improving the overall project management level and the company's decision-making and analysis ability, so as to achieve fine and precise management objectives.
