Analysis of Stakeholder Participation in the Road Rehabilitation Project in Jati Village, Garut Regency

In 2022, the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR) of Garut Regency implemented a road rehabilitation project within the Garut Regency area. One of these projects was the rehabilitation of the road in Jati Village, Tarogong Kaler District. The road rehabilitation project involved various stakeholders. However, in practice, there were still issues with the low participation of stakeholders in the Jati Village road rehabilitation project in Garut Regency. The purpose of this study is to analyze stakeholder participation in the road rehabilitation project carried out by the PUPR office of Garut Regency in the 2022 fiscal year, with the research focus on Jati Village, Tarogong Kaler District. The research design uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method as the research method. The data collection process used interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The research results concluded that stakeholder participation in the Jati Village road rehabilitation project has not been fully realized. This is evident from the findings that show: first, in terms of the voice aspect, the delivery of ideas and suggestions from stakeholders has not been accommodated by the office. Second, in the access aspect, the government has not provided stakeholders with access to openly learn about the project. Third, in the control aspect, the level of community involvement in overseeing the project is very low. To improve the success of the road rehabilitation project, continuous support from the local government and active participation from all stakeholders are needed

<p><em>Independent food area activities describe activities to empower communities against food resistance. Community participation is needed to enable people to achieve success in activities. This study aims to see the extent of community participation in independent food areas and the level of success of independent food areas, as well as examine the relationship between the level of participation and the success of independent food areas. This study design uses a quantitative approach. This assessment technique applies survey techniques and uses questionnaires. The study location was chosen purposively in Adisana Village, Kebasen Sub-district, Banyumas Regency. The sampling technique used was probability sampling, using the method of saturated sampling (census) of 60 people. The analysis tool uses descriptive analysis and Rank Spearman Correlation statistical analysis. This study shows that (1) the community is actively implementing “pangan mandiri” at the stage of enjoying the benefits; (2) obtained a correlation between the stages of participation and independent food activities. This research concludes that the participation stages at each stage are actively involved in the success of independent food activities. There is a correlation between the level of community involvement and the success of independent food activities. Implementing this study activity will likely lead to increased support for independent food initiatives, thereby facilitating the further development of independent food areas.</em><em></em></p>

Resilience of Natural Disaster Victims Based on Social Capital Community Recovery Strategy for Flash Floods in Ladang Rimba

Flooding is a natural phenomenon caused in areas where many rivers flow. This research intends to describe, analyze and reveal the flash flood disaster in Ladang Rimba in 2023. In its development, this method uses environmental history by utilizing sources obtained, both written and oral, which are related to the topic of discussion. The results of this research show that after the 2023 Ladang Rimba flash flood disaster, it was a sad story for all the people living in the flood area. Severe damage due to flash floods in Gampong Ladang Rimba in Central Trumon District still leaves mud sediment with a thickness of up to 120 cm. still covering residential areas, residents' houses and various infrastructure. The impacts of flash floods in Ladang Rimba include: experiencing levels of damage to infrastructure, including housing, roads, bridges and utilities, loss of livelihoods, business closures, and impacts on local industry, social and psychological impacts on individuals and communities, including trauma, problems mental health, and community cohesion, the level of community involvement in the recovery process and empowerment of local residents. For this reason, a comprehensive review is needed that involves collaboration between various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-government organizations, community representatives and academic researchers.

Management of Watersheds as a Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Zone Unit for the Development of the City: A Case Study of Karangmumus Watershed at Samarinda City, East Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

The changing land use affects the social and economic characteristics and environmental issues in a watershed. To support sub-watershed management, land use scenarios and the level of community involvement must be improved. This research is a study to analyse and evaluate the condition of the Karangmumus watershed covering 365.25 km2 which is mostly located in Samarinda City, the capital of East Kalimantan Province. Research was conducted with various sources of data analysed using descriptive quantitative methods. In assessing the condition of a watershed, it is absolutely necessary to have debit data and other data to support the analysis and evaluation. In reality, currently the quantity and quality of flow data is still far from expected. This is due to the difficulties that cause the flow data collection process can not be done in all places, but only in certain watersheds. In the watershed monitoring carried out, there are still obstacles, one of which is the continuity of observation.

COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION IN DEVELOPMENT PLANNING IN TEGAL SARI MANDALA III DISTRICT MEDAN DENAI KOTA DISTRICT

This study aims to examine community development planning in terms of facilities and infrastructure or Physical conditions and barriers to community participation in Participatory development planning. The research was conducted in the village of Tegal Sari Mandala III, Medan denai district, Medan city is an area that is known to be strategic with a fairly good community life. research form qualitative descriptive. Data collection techniques used in this study were conducted through interviews with related parties such as village officials, LPM, and the Participatory Development Planning Executive Committee for participatory development planning activities. In addition, other techniques used are observation and recording. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The findings show that the level of community involvement is positive. Due to the active participation and passive participation carried out by some of the people in the Tegal Sari Mandala III Village when the participation took place.

Study on the Utilization of Mangrove Forest Plants

The mangrove forest has unique characteristics, plays a role in ecological and economic functions, and is a natural resource that has not been optimally utilized. This research was conducted in Tungkal 1 Village, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency, Jambi, to identify the potential utilization of mangrove plants as entrepreneur-based products. The research method involved surveys selected using snowball sampling, interviews with various stakeholders, and data analysis on respondent characteristics, knowledge, understanding, mangrove-based products, community involvement, support, accessibility, and economically valuable strategies for utilizing mangrove plants. The results show that the majority of the community has knowledge about mangrove forests, but their understanding of the potential utilization is still low. Mangrove-based products such as ecotourism, handicrafts, and sustainable fish farming have high economic potential. The level of community involvement in mangrove conservation and support for preservation efforts is high. PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH TERPADU DALAM PARIWISATA BERBASIS MASYARAKAT DI DESA BINDU, BADUNG

Bindu Village is located in Mekar Bhuwana Village, Abiansemal, Badung Regency. The purpose of this research was to investigate the integration of waste management practices and the level of community involvement in waste management within Bindu Village. Qualitative research methodology was employed for this study, utilizing qualitative data that consisted of both primary and secondary sources. The selection of informants followed a purposive sampling technique. Qualitative descriptive analysis was utilized as the technique for analyzing the data in this study. The results of the study found that Bindu Village in managing waste has implemented integrated waste management starting from the source of waste to waste going to TPS 3R with the local community of Bindu Village having good environmental awareness with the potential to manage waste properly and correctly. However, currently the local community only follow the rules that have been made by the village regulations, there is no own initiative in planning, implementing and maintaining them.

End-user acceptability of a prototype digital stethoscope to diagnose childhood pneumonia- a qualitative exploration from Sylhet, Bangladesh

BackgroundConsidering the high frequency of respiratory infections among children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the World Health Organization (WHO) developed a pragmatic guideline for managing pneumonia in low-resource settings. The guideline’s low specificity leads to many false-positive pneumonia cases receiving antibiotic treatment. Integrating diagnostic technology to incorporate lung sounds into WHO guidelines could improve childhood pneumonia diagnosis and management. This qualitative study aimed to explore the acceptability of a prototype digital stethoscope device among potential end-users in Bangladesh.MethodsWe conducted four focus group discussions (FGDs) with beneficiaries and service providers who used a 2018 digital stethoscope prototype. The data collection was conducted in November 2020. The study was carried out at Zakiganj Upazila (sub-district) of Sylhet district of Bangladesh. A total of 34 respondents, including parents of under-5 children, Community Health Care Providers (CHCPs), and community leaders were enrolled. Two researchers (TJ and a research assistant (not a co-author of this manuscript) conducted the FGDs. Verbatim transcripts were prepared, and translations were completed. Coding was executed in Microsoft Excel, and relevant quotes were extracted to ascertain the emerging themes. To ensure validity, two researchers coded the dataset independently and inconsistencies were resolved through discussion.FindingsMothers were more aware of the digital stethoscope than fathers. Except for the female community leaders, male leaders were unaware of the stethoscopes. Most CHCPs had positive perceptions of the digital stethoscope. They appreciated stethoscope training as they learned about new technology and diagnostic approaches. The users mentioned several technical shortcomings of the prototype device. A few stakeholders expressed dissatisfaction with the level of community involvement and information sharing from the study. The use of the device plummeted during the COVID-19 pandemic for fear of infection, to counteract which the CHCPs cleaned the device with chlorhexidine after every application as a precaution.ConclusionOverall, device use was supported by stakeholders despite perceptions that the prototype had some technological limitations, community engagement was suboptimal, and the COVID-19 pandemic caused disruptions. Stronger community engagement, addressing technological issues, and further research on its health systems application would improve the acceptability and effective use of the digital stethoscope.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the provision of HIV/AIDS-related services in Iran: a qualitative study

BackgroundProviding services to people living with HIV (PLWH) faced many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on providing HIV/AIDS-related services in Iran.MethodsIn this qualitative study, the participants were included by purposive sampling between November 2021 and February 2022. Virtually focused group discussion (FGD) meetings were conducted with the first group including policymakers, service providers, and researchers (n = 17), and the interviews were conducted telephonic and face-to-face using a semi-structured guide with the second group including people who received services (n = 38). Data were analyzed by content analysis using the inductive method in MAXQDA 10 software.ResultsSix categories were obtained, including mostly affected services, ways of the effect of COVID-19, healthcare systems reaction, effects on social inequality, opportunities created by the pandemic, and suggestions for the future. In addition, people who received services believed the COVID-19 pandemic has affected their life in several ways, including getting COVID-19, mental and emotional problems during the pandemic, financial problems, changes in the care plan, and changes in high-risk behaviors.ConclusionConsidering the level of community involvement with the issue of COVID-19 and the shock caused by the pandemic, as mentioned by the world health organization, it is necessary to improve health systems’ resilience for better preparedness for similar conditions.

The role of Community Radio in Gender based Development.

People who listen to community radio are better able to take part in civic discourse, government, economic development, poverty alleviation, and anti-corruption campaigns. There is no natural audience for community radio. What is needed is to connect Community Radio to people's most pressing concerns and to ensure that people see their issues in the context of their right to development." It's a study on the effectiveness of Community Radio (CR) in India, as well as on the level of community involvement in the programme. By examining the efficacy of selected indicators, this study aims to bridge the knowledge gap that exists between the broadcaster and the beneficiaries. Community radio stations in India have been singled out for examination, with an eye toward documenting and analysing their own internal structures as well as their finances. An important factor in supporting a community radio station's long-term viability is the number of populations it serves, which in turn attracts more revenue in the form of advertising, which in turn improves the station's sustainability. Lacking policy, Nepali radio stations self-identify as "Community" or "Commercial" stations based on their stated mission statements and goals and the way they programme.

IMPACT OF TOURISM VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT ON LOCAL COMMUNITY ECONOMY: CASE STUDY OF TETEBATU VILLAGE, LOMBOK

Research on the impact of tourist village development on local community economy is a descriptive qualitative-based research. This research was conducted in Tetebatu Village, Lombok, Indonesia. The survey results revealed that the development activities of the tourist village of Tetebatu considered quite good, the main indicator is the average increase in tourist arrivals sizeable year-on-year. The readiness of local communities in terms of education, knowledge, and level of community involvement in the development of Tetebatu tourist village shows that the public has been sufficiently prepared to deal with potential impacts that arise. The level of development of tourism which generates high frequency level of interaction local communities and frequent travelers, which is an average of more than 5 times in the interaction per 3 months. The result shows that developing a tourist village brings a positive impact to the economic development of local communities in the Village of Tetebatu, including: the increase of public income; the increase of employment and business opportunities; the increase of ownership and control of local communities; the increase of government revenues through travel levy. While the indications of negative impact on the local economy in the form of rising prices of goods cannot be found.

The role of community benefits in community acceptance of multifunctional solar farms in the Netherlands

While solar farm developments contribute to sustainable energy goals, they often face high levels of local opposition due to their expected negative impacts on the direct environment. Community benefits are a promising tool to reduce local opposition, as they have proven to do so in wind farm developments. By adding multiple functions to a solar farm, benefits for the local community - other than sustainable energy production - can be generated. However, also examples exist where community benefits have not managed to reduce levels of opposition. Therefore, this research aims to understand the role of community benefits in community acceptance of multifunctional solar farm developments through case studies in the Netherlands. The research consists of two phases: an exploratory phase through desk research mapping multifunctional solar farm developments in the Netherlands and an explanatory phase, analysing why community benefits are implemented and how they affect community acceptance, done through interviews. The results show that a key factor determining if community benefits contribute to community acceptance is the extent to which these benefits meet the experienced needs of a community. The degree to which solar farm developments succeed in meeting these needs depends on the motives and interest of developers to provide benefits, the history and context of the location and the level of community involvement. When the community feels like the benefits meet their needs, community acceptance is increased. However, when the compensation offered does not meet these needs, it negatively influences trust and thus leads to more resistance.

The Effect of Homeownership on Low-Income Families: A Pilot Study with Habitat for Humanity

While some studies have attempted to prove the existence of positive benefits associated with homeownership, the so-called “homeownership effect,” few studies have been able to isolate the impact of homeownership on low-income families from neighborhood effects. In a pilot study using survey data collected from applicants to the U.S.-based housing charity Habitat for Humanity, I employ a quasi-experimental design to compare changes in the lives of those who were selected into the Habitat for Humanity housing program to those who applied for housing but were denied. In addition, since the recipients of Habitat houses remain in the same general area as their original residence, this provides a unique opportunity for the comparison of treatment and control groups to examine the impact of homeownership apart from neighborhood effects. I find that, in comparison to denied applicants, Habitat homeowners report more positive changes in their overall life, economic situation, and their level of community involvement, but less evidence of reported improvements in their children’s educational outcomes.

Challenges Facing Community Management of Rural Water Supply: The Case of Ohangwena Region, Namibia

This study investigated the critical success factors for the community management of rural water supplies in the Ohangwena Region, Namibia. Rural communities in Namibia receive water through the Community Based Management (CBM) strategy, which necessitates water governance decentralization, thereby enabling local communities to participate in the management of their water resources. In pursuance of this policy and philosophy, a large number of water point committees have been created nationally. At least half of the existing water points in rural areas in Namibia are faulty and dysfunctional, however, and the majority of people are still struggling to access clean water. The study endeavoured to examine key considerations that have a positive impact on the success of the management of the rural water supply in Namibia, using the Ohangwena Region as a case study. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the study. The findings from the study affirmed that governance, leadership attributes of the committee members, training and capacity building, level of community involvement, coordination and support are critical success factors for effective management of rural water supplies. Finally, a rural water management model was developed, which is anticipated to contribute towards improved management of rural water provision in the study area.

COMMUNICATION EFFECTIVENESS OF SMM FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES (A CASE STUDY OF ADVERTISING PUBLICATIONS IN SOCIAL NETWORKS)

The study focuses on the communication effectiveness of SMM for small and medium-sized enterprises. The task of the article is to determine the effectiveness of advertising in social networks. The general set was production, trade enterprises, and service enterprises of the Udmurt Republic. The sample analyzed 180 advertising posts published in April and May 2019. For enterprises and advertising publications in the sample, a number of indicators of communication effectiveness were measured: the number of group members, the level of publication activity, coverage, the number of reactions, the quality of advertising posts, the level of community involvement. The analysis showed that over half of small and medium-sized companies practically do not use advertising in social networks. This applies to both INSTAGRAM accounts and VKontakte communities. At the same time, the average number of subscribers in communities is quite high for the market of the region in question. It was found that the quality of advertising publications is rather low on a number of key parameters, which include the level of novelty, emotional saturation, motivation to action, etc. The level of community involvement in INSTAGRAM was identified as low. At the same time, it is significantly higher than the one we calculated for the VKontakte social network. Based on this analysis, the article made a number of proposals for small and medium-sized businesses to more effectively use commercial accounts in social networks for advertising purposes.

Clean Water Programs In Oefafi Village, Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Barat

Oefafi is one of the driest places in Indonesia and community experiences water shortages. They need to walk up to 1-2 km to get a water source due to the unavailability of water. There are many aid programs in the Oefafi but it is unsuccessful. They were not used maximally by the community and the level of community involvement was low. Jaka Perkasa Citra Cemerlang Foundation (JPCC) is a non-profit organization. This foundation empowers the community through the clean water programs in Oefafi. The research objective is to find out how JPCC foundation’s communication strategy in empowering the local community through the clean water program. It also focuses on the supporting factors as well as the inhibiting factors in implementing community empowerment communication strategies. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The results of the study showed the success case of community empowerment in Oefafi. Empowerment by JPCC Foundation already showed an active participation. The communication strategy carried out successfully to trust in the community so that the community has the awareness and willingness to change. Although there are some communities who refuse to be empowered due to the character of people.

LAND CONVERSION AND THE LEVEL OF COMMUNITY SOCIAL COHESION IN THE SUB-DISTRICT OF EMPOANG DISTRICT BINAMU JENEPONTO REGENCY

ABSTRACTThis research aims to find out land conversion that occurs and analyze relationship between the level social cohesion and collective action community after function of the land. The type research used is survey research, because takes samples from one population and uses questionnaire basic data collection tool. The number respondents was 74 people consisting 68 men and 6 women who were captured by convenience, incidental, and purfosively sampling techniques taken from those who had sold land and came from various RWs in Empoang subdisrict. Data analysis using SPSS for Windows 20 application. Test hypothesis using Rank Spearman statistical test. The results study found land conversion occurs because land is less productive and also form demographic adaptation and multi-form conversion. The results Spearman rank test obtained sig (2-tailed) value 0.013 which is smaller than alpha 0.05. This explains there is positive relationship between level social cohesion and level community involvement collective action, although the correlation coefficient is only 0.286 which explains the relationship between variables is weak. The variable level social cohesion increases, level of community involvement in collective action also increases even though the level increase is low due to the type relationship between the weak variables.

Community Involvement and Perceptions of the Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Strategy for Improving Health Outcomes in Ghana: Quantitative Comparative Evidence from Two System Learning Districts of the CHPS+ Project

Background. The Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) initiative is Ghana’s flagship strategy for achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Community involvement in and perceptions of CHPS capacity to improve health outcomes of communities are examined. Methods. This community-based descriptive cross-sectional study recruited 1008 adults aged 18 years and above in two System Learning Districts of the CHPS+ project. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results. The level of community involvement in CHPS activities was 48.9% of the population studied. The overall level of positive perception of CHPS services was 51.7%. Community members who were involved in identifying resources (AOR = 1.86 (95% CI = 1.17, 2.97), p=0.009), organising durbars (AOR = 2.09 (95% CI = 1.12, 3.88), p=0.020), and preparing sites for outreach services (AOR = 3.76 (95% CI = 2.23, 6.34), p<0.001) were significantly more likely to have positive perceptions of the relevance of CHPS to improving the health status of communities compared to those who were uninvolved. Conclusion. The level of community involvement in CHPS services is low. Ghana may not be able to attain the UHC goal by 2030 through CHPS implementation unless its level of community involvement is markedly improved. Ghana’s health sector stakeholders should implement community engagement mechanisms that foster improved worker outreach, expanded use of community gatherings, and more active participation of traditional leaders and grassroots political representatives.

Local finance transparency in Ukraine

Transparency in public and local finance is one of the most important factors in building a democratic society with high level of public confidence in the government. Democratic shifts in a country will only take place if citizens perceive the country’s government and local self-government as fully transparent and controlled by them. Citizens will be able to support and cooperate with the government if it informs them of all public activities: decision-making, financial reporting, planning, local budget expenditures, etc. Transparency in the formation and use of local financial resources is the most sensitive issue.Local finance transparency has been studied from the perspective of 21 online portals of local authorities from four Ukrainian regions, geographically remote in the context of two main blocks, namely, the state of public procurement and the budget process. The portals of Lviv, Vinnytsia, Sumy, Mykolaiv administrative centers and the city of Kyiv were identified in each region (oblast), and in each oblast, four cities with the district status, which are the largest by population, were identified. Significant discrepancies in local finance transparency have been identified, as portals of regional centers and a small number of districts have high levels of transparency. The vast majority have low transparency in local finances. In addition, the level of community involvement in the regional development problems through social networks was analyzed. The population of small cities was found to be more active. Most local governments should pay attention to the low level of portals in terms of making them user-friendly.

Community perceptions of the implementation and impact of an intervention to improve the neighbourhood physical environment to promote walking for transport: a qualitative study

BackgroundUsing community engagement approaches to develop and deliver interventions targeting small-scale physical environmental improvements in neighbourhoods is a potential strategy for increasing walking for transport. This study aimed to qualitatively assess community perceptions of the implementation and impact of the Fitter for Walking (FFW) intervention, which encouraged communities to work together to improve the street environment on local routes and promote walking for transport.MethodsFrom 155 FFW community projects, nineteen were selected to take part in a focus group/interview using specified criteria: geographical area; level of community involvement; intervention activities; and project progress. Participants were invited to take part via the project coordinator or lead member of the community group. A written guide was used to initiate and direct discussions through key topics. Deductive and inductive approaches were used to analyse the data and identify key themes relating to the barriers and facilitators for implementation and the perceived impact of the intervention.ResultsFourteen focus groups and five interviews were conducted with 86 community members. Themes were identified in relation to barriers (poor area reputation and regeneration areas; engaging the local community; and working with local authorities) and facilitators (provision of a coordinator/facilitator; strong local partnerships; and using a range of communication and engagement activities) for programme implementation. Participants perceived the main impacts to be improved physical and social environments. Increases in walking for transport were rarely specifically commented on, but participants did report increased street use.ConclusionsCommunity perspectives provided important insights into the barriers and facilitators for the implementation of the FFW intervention and its’ potential impacts. Using community engagement approaches can lead to perceived improvements in the physical and social environment resulting in increased street use, which may lead to increases in walking for transport in the longer-term. Recommendations are provided for researchers, practitioners and policy makers in planning and delivering future interventions. Future research should determine optimal implementation strategies, investigate the relative importance of improving physical environments, social environments and using individual behaviour change strategies, and determine how physical and social environments interact to maximise intervention impact on walking for transport.
