This research is entitled "The Use of Image Media in Overcoming Reading Difficulties for Grade II Students at Nursyamsiani Islamic Private Elementary School, Bintang Meriah Village, Batang Kuis District." The objectives are to: 1) Identify the forms of reading difficulties of grade II students; 2) Knowing the effectiveness of image media in overcoming these difficulties; 3) Identify obstacles in the use of image media; and 4) Reveal teachers' efforts in overcoming these obstacles. This research is qualitative-descriptive, involving the principal and homeroom teacher as subjects. Data collection is carried out through observation, interviews, and data analysis. The results of the study showed: 1) Reading difficulties include recognition of similar letters and difficulty in prociting a combination of letters; 2) Image media helps overcome reading difficulties; 3) Constraints include image size, limited facilities, and funds; 4) Teachers' efforts include providing opportunities to see pictures in turns and re-explain the material. This result is expected to encourage an increase in teachers' creativity in the use of learning media to increase interest and effectiveness in learning.

Genome-wide identification of SSR markers for Curcuma alismatifolia Gagnep., and their potential for wider application in this genus

The genus Curcuma, containing over 120 species, have considerable ornamental, edible and medicinal value. Due to the persistent lack of efficient genomic SSR markers, the conservation and identification of Curcuma genetic resources have faced substantial challenges in practical applications. To date, there are few systematic researches on whole-genome mining of SSR locus in the genus Curcuma. Herein, we performed the first deep identification of genome-wide SSR markers based on the whole-genome data of C. alismatifolia. A total of 257,032 SSR loci were identified with an average density of 216.1–367.3 SSRs/Mb within each chromosome. Mononucleotide repeat loci were most abundant, accounting for 55.1 % of all SSRs, with dinucleotide and trinucleotide repeats accounting for 22.6 % and 20.3 %, respectively. Moreover, 38 polymorphic genomic SSRs (g-SSR) were screened from the synthesized 280 primer pairs, with an average allele number (Na) and polymorphic information content (PIC) of 15.342 and 0.775 per locus, respectively. These markers had excellent cross-species transferability with an overall efficiency of 97.5 % in 21 Curcuma species. According to the cluster and structure analyses, the 178 Curcuma accessions were devided into three major clades correspongding to their origins, hybrid affinities and use values. Finally, a total of 66 Curcuma core collections were preserved, with no significant difference in genetic diversity between the core and entire collections by the t-test. A combination of numbers and letters was employed to establish DNA barcodes for 66 core collections. This study provides valuable molecular markers for wild-collection and conservation, genetic diversity analysis and marker-assisted selection breeding of Curcuma.

Hadis Amalan Terbaik Dalam Sahih Bukhari: Analisa Stilistik Fonosemantik

Stylistics, a sub-discipline of applied linguistics, examines the aesthetic aspects of language style within texts, particularly literary ones. While it is often used to explore the linguistic beauty of the Quran, it is less frequently applied to Prophetic Hadith texts. This study aims to analyse Hadiths that contain conversations between the Prophet and his companions, known as the Qauli Hiwari-type, related to exemplary practices (Afdhal al-‘amal), in Sahih Bukhari. Textual analysis was applied using phonosemantic analysis to examine letter combinations in words and ascertain their meanings related to these practices. The findings reveal five exemplary practices in the Prophet's Hadiths as narrated in Sahih Bukhari, hierarchically arranged to reflect their significance: belief in Allah SWT and His Messenger, and performing prayers punctually, which are fundamental to Islam, followed by kindness to parents, Jihad fi Sabillillah, and performing Hajj Mabrur, subject to individual limitations and capacities. This study demonstrates that phonosemantic stylistics can effectively analyze the linguistic style of religious texts, particularly in discerning meanings embedded in letter combinations, and shows that Hadith texts can be examined through stylistics with appropriate guidelines. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the linguistic nuances and religious teachings within the Hadiths of Sahih Bukhari.

Mediation in the Relation of Orthographic Processing on the Lexical and Sublexical Level with Reading and Spelling Skills. A Large Cross-Sectional Study in Elementary School Children in Germany

ABSTRACT Purpose Two types of orthographic knowledge were examined: i) knowledge of permissible letter combinations (general orthographic knowledge) and ii) knowledge of whole words (word-specific orthographic knowledge), to gain further insights into the relationship of general and word-specific orthographic knowledge with literacy skills. Method Mediation models were estimated using a sample of 2,636 3rd and 4th grade children (50.6% female, ethnic backgrounds were not surveyed) to examine whether general orthographic knowledge predicts reading fluency and spelling performance and whether this path is mediated by word-specific orthographic knowledge. Using confirmatory factor analyses (CFA), we examined whether the responses to correctly spelled words/legal letter patterns and pseudohomophones/illegal letter patterns in word-specific and general orthographic knowledge tasks were generated by separate latent constructs. Results Our results confirm that word-specific orthographic knowledge is a facilitatory mediator in the relationship between general orthographic knowledge and literacy skills. The relationship of general and word-specific orthographic knowledge with literacy skills varies by item type, with a tendency toward higher correlations between literacy skills with pseudohomophones (vs words) and illegal (vs legal) pseudowords, which is in line with the two-factor solution of the CFA. Conclusion From a theoretical perspective, we conclude that general orthographic knowledge facilitates orthographic learning of words. From a methodological perspective, we encourage future researchers to distinguish between targets and foils in orthographic decision tasks.

The Effect of Mnemonic Learning Strategy on Critical Care Nursing Students’ Tracheal Suction Skill Acquisition

Background. The mnemonic learning method is a systematic approach that helps nursing students memorize new information more effectively, productively, and easily by connecting new information with existing information and exploring unfamiliar information through visual images or combinations of letters and words. While mnemonics can help students remember specific information, it is essential to examine how well they facilitate the transfer of learning to real-world nursing practice. Aim. To investigate the effect of the mnemonic learning strategy on critical care nursing students’ tracheal suction skill acquisition and learning satisfaction. Methods. A quasi-experimental research design was used. A total of 280 second-year nursing students enrolled in critical care and emergency nursing courses were recruited. These students were assigned to study and control groups. The study group used a mnemonic learning strategy to recall the steps involved in the tracheal suction procedure, while the control group used the traditional learning strategy. Two tools were used for data collection: the tracheal suction procedure checklist and learning satisfaction scale. Comparisons between both groups regarding their performance and satisfaction scores were done. Results. Performance scores regarding the tracheal suction procedure were significantly higher in the study group than in the control group in the 5th, 6th, and 10th weeks (P<0.001, <0.001, and <0.001). A total of 70.6% of the participants in the study group reported high satisfaction using the mnemonic learning experience. Conclusion. Using a mnemonic learning strategy with critical care nursing students was effective. Participants in the study group exhibited improvement in their tracheal suction procedure scores over time. Critical care nursing students reported higher levels of learning satisfaction with the mnemonic learning method than with the traditional method.

Optical, thermal and mechanical activation of spiropyrans enhanced by hydrogen bonding interactions and its application in time–resolved encryption

Here, a multi–stimuli–responsive spiropyran molecule with enhanced photochromic, thermochromic and mechanochromic properties was constructed by introducing hydrogen bonding interactions, which is highly sensitive to external stimuli, and its solution and powder change color after two seconds of ultraviolet irradiation. After short–term grinding (10 min) or heating (90 ℃ for 3 min), the powder can also show rapid and reversible fluorescence emission change. The molecule can withstand at least 5 reversible grinding–recrystallization cycles, 5 heating–white light cycles or 20 reversible UV– white light cycles. To our best knowledge, it is seldom reported that spiropyran compounds achieve multi–stimuli response by introducing hydrogen bonds, and there are also rare reports on the influence of hydrogen bonds on multi–stimuli performance. Hydrogen bond interaction makes the spiropyran molecule more sensitive to external stimuli to achieve the multi–stimulus response. Combined with this good photochromism, mechanochromism and thermochromism, a time–resolved multilevel information encryption was explored, which has the following advantages: (1) According to the actual demand, designing and adding the combination of numbers or letters can encrypt a lot of information. (2) The process involves three kinds of stimuli responses (photochromism, mechanochromism and thermochromism), and the complex information switching ensures that the real information is not easy to leak. (3) The encryption and decryption steps are easy to operate and can lower the application threshold. This work is a rare example of improving the photochromism, mechanism and thermochromism of spiropyrans by hydrogen bonding, which can also provide guidance for designing functional spiropyrans for multi–level information encryption.

MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF FUZZY DEFINITION OF SUBJECTS OF SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES USING SYNTACTICALLY RELATED WORDS

Mathematical methods are widely used to formalize the solution of problems of automatic text processing, including text classification. To classify texts, a “naive” Bayes classifier, methods of -nearest neighbors, decision trees, support vector machines, distribution of letter combinations (character -grams), logistic regression, and approaches based on artificial neural networks are used. These methods are used by modern computational linguistics. Classical computational linguistics considers text as a carrier of meaning. The purpose of the study is to formalize the definition of the topics of scientific articles using syntactically related words by a mathematical model, and therefore classical computer linguistics. We propose an abstract mathematical model of fuzzy classification based on common objects. The model assumes that some objects belong to only one class and are class identifiers. The result of a fuzzy classification can be one or more classes. For each class a degree of membership is determined. We propose a specification of the model with in which the common objects are syntactically related pairs of words. We conclude syntactically related words are more promising in research than verbal bigrams determined by sentence order. We propose the model in our international study. The study involve the creation of a corpus of scientific articles and their distribution by topic. The corpus will be used to classify scientific articles by topic.

Restoration Playbooks and Receivers’ Stamps: James Magnes, Richard Bentley, and ‘the Post-Office in Russel-street in Covent-Garden’

ABSTRACT This article examines the surprisingly prevalent incidence of contemporary handstamps impressed upon the final leaf of Restoration playbooks. These are all circular and contain either individual letters or are bisected and contain a combination of letters and numerals. As they are demonstrably not part of the printing process, they have not attracted the attention of textual editors; but as this article shows, neither are they markers of ownership that would interest scholars researching provenance. We identify the marks as being the stamps of letter receivers; in particular, receivers (James Magnes and Richard Bentley) who were also stationers involved in the publishing of the plays we examined. The presence of these stamps suggests that Magnes and Bentley served not only as publishers and booksellers, but as distributors of the playbooks they produced. The presence of these stamps thus has implications for the distribution of Restoration playbooks through the English postal system.

Discovering Appearance of the Franks in Arab Sources (8th–9th Centuries)

At the time of Crusades, the term “franks” (ifranj) was common Arabic word for the crusaders. Since that, almost any study of the Crusades from the “Islamic perspective” tends to discover francs in Arab sources. However, medieval Muslim authors mentioned the Franks since the early 9th century, long before the Crusades, but nobody asks when and how Arabic authors actually learn about the Franks. There is still a half-century-old hypothesis by B. Lewis, attributing the word “franc” (faranj) to the Greek “fráŋkos”. The aim of our article is to discover the original source from which the Arabs first learn about the Franks, so we study the 9th-century Arab texts reporting on the first known contact between Arabs and Franks during the Muslim conquest of Spain. It seems that the Arabic faranj could hardly originate from the Greek fráŋkos, as the combination of letters <γκ> sounds as <nk> during this period (which corresponds to another Arabic form firank appearing in a number of texts in 11th–12th centuries and not widely used). That is why the Arabic franc could actually originate from Syriac as a transcription of the Syriac prangāiā. Based on message of the 9th-century historian Ibn Kutaiba we suppose that Arabs learned this term from the Syrian sailors who ensured the crossing of Muslim army through the Strait of Gibraltar in the spring of 711.

Exploring Name Tendency: Taking Childrens Names as a Case

This paper is inspired by a chapter talking about name bias in the book Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubnertalks and it discusses names (including first name and last name), typically childrens names from two perspectives, namely semantics of names and pragmatics of names. This paper also analyzes the way that the names of children are given by their parents in different countries, particularly in China and Germany, with the impact that these names have on childrens personality and career development. A name may seem like a simple combination of letters, but its impact on people may be much greater than imagined, whether in school or the workplace. Prejudice is the key factor that these consequences can have on a childs future, such as black-sounding names or gender-specific names. However, these biases are generally subconscious, and it is difficult for people to realize this and prevent such prejudice.

Language-universal and script-specific factors in the recognition of letters in visual crowding: The effects of lexicality, hemifield, and transitional probabilities in a right-to-left script

Peripheral letter recognition is fundamentally limited not by the visibility of letters but by the spacing between them, i.e., ‘crowding’. Crowding imposes a significant constraint on reading, however, the interplay between crowding and reading is not fully understood. Using a letter recognition task in varying display conditions, we investigated the effects of lexicality (words versus pseudowords), visual hemifield, and transitional letter probability (bigram/trigram frequency) among skilled readers (N = 14. and N = 13) in Hebrew – a script read from right to left. We observed two language-universal effects: a lexicality effect and a right hemifield (left hemisphere) advantage, as well as a strong language-specific effect – a left bigram advantage stemming from the right-to-left reading direction of Hebrew. The latter finding suggests that transitional probabilities are essential for parafoveal letter recognition. The results reveal that script-specific contextual information such as letter combination probabilities is used to accurately identify crowded letters.

A research on the Prediction of Wordle Based on Machine Learning

This paper investigated the popularity and difficulty level of Wordle, an online daily puzzle game. The study examined the number of players reporting scores, the number of players on hard mode, and the percentage of players who guessed the word. After removing outliers and misspelling words, the study used time series analysis to predict future numbers of reported results. We found that Wordle had entered the decline period and recommended the last 150 days' smooth data for more accurate prediction interval results. Furthermore, the study developed the Wordle Word n-tries Percentage Prediction Model, which accurately predicts the associated percentages of tries required to solve a given word. The model uses the Regressor Chain algorithm to correlate independent variables such as word frequency, lexical properties, number of common letter combinations, and date with dependent variables. Based on the Decision Tree, the model predicts the associated percentages of tries required to solve a given word.

The paper considers the problem of graphic support of the decision-making processes when working with a variety of complex multi-parameter objects that require comparison. It notes complexity of the visualization process, when it is necessary to visualize the object in dynamics with an emphasis on its activity and combine the categories of past, present and future (the afferent synthesis model according to Anokhin P.K.). Prerequisites and genesis of the Unified Graphic Visualization of Activity (UGVA) method appearance are described, as it the development of the well-known "Chernoff Faces" approach. Stages of implementing the methodology to form anthropomorphic images for visualization of the complex multi-parameter objects in the UGVA are described. Examples of the sets of images are provided, where curricula, student performance, project passports and employees’ activities in the workplace are considered as the objects for comparison. Methodological generalizations are proposed allowing a systematic approach to selection of option in visualizing the anthropomorphic images taking into account specifics of the information decomposition on the data axes and the types of symmetry. A coding system for various options of images in the UGVA is given that uses a combination of letters of the Latin and Greek alphabets

IMPLEMENTATION OF IMAGE PROCESSING IN THE RECOGNITION OF OFFICIAL VEHICLE LICENSE PLATES

Vehicle license plates are identifiers used to uniquely identify vehicles. However, to identify vehicle license plates there are several problems encountered, namely the different formats of vehicle license plates that make license plate recognition more complicated, vehicle license plates often contain visually similar combinations of letters and numbers (for example the letter "O" and the number "0" or the letter "I" and the number "1"), . in poor lighting conditions license plates may not be clearly visible. To solve this problem, image recognition, image processing, and pattern recognition technologies can be used. The three technologies can be used to recognize characters on vehicle license plates, but cannot yet be used to recognize the colors contained on vehicle license plates. The purpose of this research is to identify and record vehicle license plate numbers quickly and accurately, monitor the presence of vehicles in a supervised area, assist in managing parking, reduce the need for human interaction in the vehicle identification process, The methods used to recognize motor vehicle plates are edge detection and character segmentation which involves image processing to detect the edges of the vehicle plate, followed by segmentation of individual characters in the plate. Another method used is optical character recognition which involves using an optical sensor to take an image of a vehicle plate, then using character recognition techniques to identify the numbers and letters on the plate. The result of this research is that the motor vehicle number recognition system can work in various lighting conditions and poor weather conditions and can monitor and control vehicles in the parking area. The finding obtained from this research is that no method has been used for color recognition on motor vehicle plates.

Progress in elementary school reading linked to growth of cortical responses to familiar letter combinations within visual word forms.

Learning to read depends on the ability to extract precise details of letter combinations, which convey critical information that distinguishes tens of thousands of visual word forms. To support fluent reading skill, one crucial neural developmental process is one's brain sensitivity to statistical constraints inherent in combining letters into visual word forms. To test this idea in early readers, we tracked the impact of two years of schooling on within-subject longitudinal changes in cortical responses to three different properties of words: coarse tuning for print, and fine tuning to either familiar letter combinations within visual word forms or whole word representations. We then examined how each related to growth in reading skill. Three stimulus contrasts-words versus pseudofonts, words versus pseudowords, pseudowords versus nonwords-were presented while high-density EEG Steady-State Visual Evoked Potentials (SSVEPs, n=31) were recorded. Internalization of abstract visual word form structures over two years of reading experience resulted in a near doubling of SSVEP amplitude, with increasing left lateralization. Longitudinal changes (decreases) in brain responses to such word form structural information were linked to the growth in reading skills, especially in rapid automatic naming of letters. No such changes were observed for whole word representation processing and coarse tuning for print. Collectively, these findings indicate that sensitivity to visual word form structure develops rapidly through exposure to print and is linked to growth in reading skill. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Longitudinal changes in cognitive responses to coarse print tuning, visual word from structure, and whole word representation were examined in early readers. Visual word form structure processing demonstrated striking patterns of growth with nearly doubled in EEG amplitude and increased left lateralization. Longitudinal changes (decreases) in brain responses to visual word form structural information were linked to the growth in rapid automatic naming for letters. No longitudinal changes were observed for whole word representation processing and coarse tuning for print.

Slang Abbreviation in Japanese and Indonesian Written Language: Origins, Process, Similarities, and Differences

Slang is one of the language styles used by young people, which is called Wakamono Kotoba in Japanese and Bahasa Gaul in Indonesian. One similar characteristic in wakamono kotoba (Japanese slang) and Bahasa Gaul (Indonesian’s slang) is the abbreviation. This research aims to compare Japanese and Indonesian slang abbreviations by explaining their origins, processes, differences, and similarities. This study was collected based on written language from Pergikuliner and Taberogu sites from March until April 2023, each taking a maximum of 50 reviews per restaurant. The review was gathered from 10 restaurants each from Indonesian and Japanese sites, meaning there are 500 data from each site and 1000 reviews from both websites. Then, the author conducted the research by analyzing the abbreviation process with similarities and differences between the two languages. The results show 398 data on slang abbreviations in wakamono kotoba and 244 data on slang abbreviations in bahasa gaul. The abbreviation process in the Japanese language mainly happens with the abbreviation of sentences or phrases, following that is an abbreviation at the end of the word, the abbreviation of two or more moras, omissions at the end of each term, the abbreviation of three words in a sentence or phrases, and abbreviations formed from initial letters of each word. On the other hand, the abbreviation process in the Indonesian language mainly happens as an omission of the word’s part, followed by shortened words from a combination of letters, acronyms of letters, combining from two separate forms, and abbreviation as letter symbols. The similarity between the two languages is used identical types of abbreviations (acronyms and toujigo), have the abbreviation process from another language, and have the same pattern in the abbreviation of the end of words. While the differences are from letters or syllables, the objects that went through the abbreviation process, changed in form in the Japanese source and tended to use foreign languages in the Indonesian source.

In the English language, spelling and pronunciation have a particularly strange relationship. How we write a word and how we say it often do not match. There always seem to be discrepancies and exceptions to the rules of thumb. When we say a word, the sounds we make naturally consist of word parts. We call these parts ‘syllables’. A syllable can be defined as any one of the parts into which a word is naturally divided when it is pronounced. Hence, we might sat that phonetically (i.e. in relation to the way it is pronounced), a syllable is a unit of organization for a sequence of speech sounds. It is made up of a centre of syllable, called a nucleus (mostly a vowel), with optional initial and final sounds (typically, consonants). English pronunciation of words isn’t always intuitive. The same letter combinations in one word may make a completely different sound in another. One way to practice your pronunciation is by breaking words down into syllables. Syllables are the sonic units of a word, sometimes called the “beats” of a word. We do this naturally when we speak. Every time you say a new syllable, your mouth has to change its shape and make a new sound. Noticing when this happens and counting syllables can help you break words down into recognizable patterns that are easier to pronounce.

This research focuses on the research objective of uncovering the taboo language acronym BH from the perspective of Islamic education, by tracing the background of the language, then focusing on how new meanings are generated where specific searches have not revealed them. This article uses a qualitative approach to describe, analyze, and interpret forms of taboo language with an emphasis on analyzing the context. The results of the study found that BH is an acronym by shortening it in the form of a combination of letters with a euphemism approach, namely the use of expressions to soften words to replace taboo language so as to produce a new word. The function of the new word is intended to soften the word so that the taboo element does not become dominant. Refining words in order to avoid harsh taboos is in accordance with the essence of Islamic education, where a Muslim is ordered to say good things, and avoid dirty and harsh words. The implications of research on the need to refine taboo essence requires more specific research. Research contributes to Islamic education regarding strategies to avoid taboo languages.
