Opportunities for Method Competence Development of Mathematics Teachers: The Role of Participation in Competitions with Colleagues

The article contains explanations of the importance of developing the competence of teachers with teaching mathematics and introduces the idea of constructive approximation of the methodical activity of school teachers and lecturers of pedagogical universities. It describes certain features of the Ukrainian system of methodical training of future mathematics teachers at pedagogical universities. The objective of the study is to experimentally discover the influence of teachers` participation in special geometry teaching competitions on the methodological development of practicing and future mathematics teachers. For the purposes of the study, the Vinnytsia State Pedagogical University hosted a competition of geometry teaching methodological findings for practicing teachers and a methodological skills contest for future math teachers in 2017, 2018, and 2019. We surveyed 32 participants of the above competitions. Practicing math teachers have laid stress upon the high quality of discussions on current problems of teaching geometry, new opportunities to share the experience gained, the high level of expertise and recognition of their own ideas about teaching geometry within the cooperation with the Pedagogical University organized by us. Future mathematics teachers have indicated the growing interest in future methodical activities at school, decided upon their own own aspirations for methodological development. The main conclusions: the educational environment for training the future mathematics teachers at the university should promptly respond to the new requirements for methodical performance of a teacher of the modern school; future math teachers have more opportunities for methodological development in specially created conditions of communication with experienced practicing teachers; practicing math teachers have more opportunities for methodological self-development in the process of active discussion of methodological issues with future teachers, lecturers of pedagogical universities, and scientists in the field of mathematics teaching methodology. We bring your attention to topicality of the problem of math teachers' creative approach to teaching, their willingness to comprehend, analyze and adopt innovations.

Characteristics and trends of sexual assaults in Israel - A large cohort study of 3941 victims.

To improve care for victims of sexual assault, specialized assault centers have been developed globally, providing medical, psychological and legal care in one place. Our assault center serves a large population in the center of Israel. In 2010, we initiated a program aimed to prevent assaults among minors and to encourage early referral of victims to the center. The goal of the current study was to assess the impact of this program by comparing the characteristics of sexual assaults before and after the program's initiation. We conducted a historic cohort study of all victims of sexual assaults who were treated in our center between October 2000 and November 2017. A comparison was performed between victims treated before and after January 2010 (early vs. late study period), when the prevention program was initiated. The program mainly included lectures in middle and high schools, and workshops for police investigators. Overall, 3941 victims of sexual assault were treated in our center during the study period. Most victims were females (90.5%). Mean age was 23.0±11.0 years. Most victims were single (93.1%), and approximately half knew their perpetrator before the assault. Compared with the early study period, in the late study period we observed a decrease in the rate of minor victims (31.9% vs. 24.7%, respectively, P<.001) and an increase in the rate of victims who arrived to the center within 3days of the assault (P=.001). However, we observed higher rates of multiple-perpetrator assaults (16.7% vs. 21.9%, respectively, P<.001), alcohol use (29.2% vs. 40.1%, respectively, P<.001), and drug use (7.2% vs. 9.0%, respectively, P=.04). Moreover, in the late study period, fewer victims were willing to press charges (79.5% vs. 64.4%, respectively, P<.001). Our prevention program might have contributed to reducing the rate of sexual assaults among minors and shortened the time interval between the assault and victim's arrival to the center. Nonetheless, more efforts should be taken to reduce the involvement of alcohol and drugs in sexual assaults and to encourage victims to press charges.

Contraceptive Use among Senior Secondary School Students in Abakaliki Metropolis, Ebonyi State, Nigeria

Aims: To determine the use of contraceptives among senior secondary school students in Abakaliki metropolis, Ebonyi State.&#x0D; Study Design: A cross-sectional study design was used.&#x0D; Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in public secondary schools in Abakaliki metropolis, Ebonyi Nigeria, for a duration of six months&#x0D; Methodology: A two-stage sampling method was used to select 400 students from 6 out of 18 public secondary schools in Abakaliki metropolis. Information was obtained using a pre-tested interviewer-administered questionnaire. Chi square test and multivariate logistic regression were used in the analysis and level of statistical significance was determined by p value of &lt;0.05.&#x0D; Results: The mean age of respondents was 17.4±2.3 years and majority (51.5%) were females. More than one fifth (21.5%) have been exposed to sexual intercourse. Majority of the respondents (61.8%) were aware of contraceptives. The major sources of information were school lessons (46.0%) and health workers (40.8%). The contraceptives mostly known included male condom (42.0%), female condom (22.3%) and natural methods (15.3%). Out of the 400 respondents, a small proportion (8.5%) have ever used any method of contraception, and the male condom, was the most used method (82%). Logistic regression showed predictors of contraceptive use to include being &lt;18 years (AOR=0.4; 95% CI: 0.2-0.9), being male (AOR=6.0, 95% CI: 2.0-17.7) and being in senior secondary three class (AOR=0.2, 95% CI: 0.1-0.6).&#x0D; Conclusion: Only a small proportion of the respondents who were sexually active used any method of contraception. With school lectures as the main source of information on contraception, there is need for more comprehensive sexuality education to be included in the school curriculum.

PENERAPAN METODE BERMAIN PERAN UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN MENGAJAR MAHASISWA PGSD UNIVERSITAS FLORES

This study aims to improve the teaching skills of PGSD Uniflor students through role playing methods. This type of research is classroom action research. The research subjects were 5th semester students of PGSD University of Flores who took part in the social science learning design lectures in elementary school. Research subjects numbered 62 students. The main data taken by observation techniques then determined the percentage and compared the criteria for each cycle based on the guideline of the assessment. While supporting data is taken with documentation techniques and field notes. The procedure of the research is through the stages of planning, stages of action, stages of observation and stages of reflection. The results showed an increase in the teaching skills of PGSD students after applying the role playing method from cycle I to cycle II. The improvement of teaching skills includes five indicators, namely strengthening skills, asking questions, using variations, explaining , opening and closing learning. Thus it can be concluded that the role playing method can improve the teaching skills of PGSD University of Flores students

The Symbolic Meaning of HIV: Understanding Lecturers' Ambivalence over Teaching HIV to Dietetic Students.

Responding to the increasing reports of health students and professionals demonstrating stigmatized attitudes toward people living with HIV (PLHIV), this article examined the learning process that takes place during their academic training. Using symbolic interactionism as a theoretical framework, we studied the way lecturers in dietetic schools in Indonesia make meaning of their understanding and experience of HIV in relation to their teaching conduct. We found that the current curriculum does not provide adequate opportunities for students to learn and interact with PLHIV. Participants described HIV discussion is mainly limited to the clinical aspects and essential treatment as they were uncomfortable discussing HIV with the students. The ostensible symbolic meaning of HIV among dietetic lecturers in Indonesia was compounded with limitations and restrictions affecting their teaching practices and attitudes to PLHIV. Future intervention is required to help lecturers recognize their degree of awareness and personal values about HIV.

Субъективные предпосылки духовно-нравственного развития курсантов в образовательных организациях МВД России

The relevance of the topic is determined by the personal, professional and social significance of the spiritual and moral development of the personality of specialists working with people, particularly, in the law enforcement sphere. This is confirmed by normative, scientific and publicistic documents. The complexity and wide scope of the notion complicates the methodical development of the activities of higher school lecturers. The main approaches to the understanding of spirituality and morality are presented in the article. The authors substantiate the importance of spiritual and moral development of a person as an integral characteristic of the personality, reflecting the value-semantic unity in the categories of «service», «virtue», «honor», «dignity». The importance of these characteristics for the formation of the personality of MIA personnel, their self-improvement at the stage of mastering the profession is shown. Spiritual and moral development is understood as qualitative changes in the value-semantic sphere of personality through organized pedagogical influence aimed at increasing its creative activity, the formation of the ability to assess their own activities from the standpoint of cooperation, constructiveness, creation, service, mutual assistance as opposed to self-centeredness, selfishness and individualism. For the purpose of development of the program of spiritual and moral development the subjective representations and self-estimates of the cadets are received on three methods: «Life orientations» by D. A. Leontiev, method «Values of personality» by S. H. Schwartz and thematic method «Unfinished sentences». Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of representations and self-evaluations in this sphere are discussed. The analysis and generalization of the received data allowed to reveal prevailing orientations, contradictions in representations and self-estimates of the cadets, discrepancy in «known» and «realized». The obtained results are correlated with the tasks of spiritual and moral development of the cadets in the process of mastering the disciplines of humanitarian profile in educational organizations of the MIA of Russia.

Healthy Lifestyle Among School of Quantitative Sciences Lecturers, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM)

The role of individual healthy behaviors like physical activity, nutrition and stress management on reduction of rate of disease mortality and morbidity is well known. The aim of this study is to determine healthy lifestyle in lecturers employed in School of Quantitative Sciences, University Utara Malaysia, in 2019. Materials and Methods: The participants of this cross-sectional study were 66 lecturers in School of Quantitative Sciences, selected via random sampling method. The data collection was performed using a questionnaire including demographic healthy lifestyle questions. Analysis of the data was performed through Software Statistical Analysis System Enterprise Guide (SAS EG) version 7.1. Results: The mean age of the subjects was 42.68 ± 1.37 years and, BMI mean was 24.13 ± 0.86. 92.42% of them were married and 7.58% also were single. Conclusion: According to the results, planning for lecturers in School of Quantitative Sciences for receiving information about healthy lifestyle on weight control and nutrition are important.

Effectiveness of Reading for Islamic Education: Design of Multi-Platform Educational Game as Instructional Media

The purpose of this research is a solution by designing a modern learning media namely windows and android-based multi-platform educational game for Islamic education students that is inserted with reading materials based on the curriculum of english in Islamic educational institution subject for grade 7 students of tsanawiyah school (MTs). This game was designed by utilizing construct 2 software. This research produces a multi-platform educational game namely the Adventure of Timun Mas. Material and media validations were performed by some experts who are competent in their fields. Material validation was done by english teachers of Junior High School and english education lecturers. Meanwhile, media validation was performed by practitioners, game developer, and Informatics Engineering lecturers. From the result of both material and media validation, each validator was summed, and then divided by the overall score and multiplied by 100%. The final result of product validation was 82.95%, indicating that The Adventure of Timun Mas game is valid to use.

Student engagement, assessed using heart rate, shows no reset following active learning sessions in lectures

Heart rate can be used as a measure of cognitive engagement. We measured average student heart rates during medical school lecture classes using wristwatch-style monitors. Analysis of 42 classes showed a steady decline in heart rate from the beginning to end of a lecture class. Active learning sessions (peer-discussion based problem solving) resulted in a significant uptick in heart rate, but this returned to the average level immediately following the active learning period. This is the first statistically robust assessment of changes in heart rate during the course of college lecture classes and indicates that personal heart rate monitors may be useful tools for assessment of different teaching modalities. The key findings suggest that the value of active learning within the classroom resides in the activity itself and not in an increase in engagement or reset in attention during the didactic period following an active learning session.

ПИТАННЯ ЛЕКТОРСЬКОЇ МАЙСТЕРНОСТІ У ВИКЛАДАЦЬКІЙ ДІЯЛЬНОСТІ М. В. КЛОЧКОВА У ДОРЕВОЛЮЦІЙНИЙ ПЕРІОД

У статті проаналізовано шляхи розвитку та характерні особливості лекторської майстерності у викладацькій діяльності професора історії Михайла Васильовича Клочкова у дореволюційний період (1906– 1917 рр.). За допомогою методу аналізу архівних матеріалів та історико-педагогічних джерел виявлені шляхи формування особливостей лекторської майстерності педагога. Викладацький шлях М. В. Клочкова проаналізований із застосуванням біографічного методу, який дав змогу з’ясувати вплив культурно-освітніх та суспільно-політичних чинників на формування викладача як лектора.The article is devoted to the pre-revolutionary period (1906-1917) of Mykhailo Vasyliovytch Klochkov teaching work at Kharkiv Emperor University in the beginning of the XXth century. Particular attention is paid to the development and implementation of the teacher’s lecturer skills.The main source of the research is taken from the private archives of Mykhailo Klochkov, which is kept at the Kharkiv Region State Archive, as well as historic pedagogical sources – articles in the periodic issues of that time, responses and memories of Mykhailo Klochkov contemporaries.The urgency of the research caused by non-ending debates is for the role of a lecture in the high school studying process, which last ages and, from the confrontation point of view, of the importance of the life communication and the possibility to obtain information with the help of digital technologies. Klochkov’s scientific pedagogical practice is dedicated to Kharkiv (until 1920) and Petersburg universities in the pre-revolutionary times. One should take into consideration the formation origins and ways of implementation of Klochkov skills as a lecturer in the pre-revolutionary period, which are inseparably related to scientific and teaching activity of the professor. Besides, they can be found among special features of his activity: teaching at the university, public civil activity, taking part in the social life of the state, response to the urgent issues in time, etc.The analysis of Klochkov professional work shows that the scientist was demanded as a teacher as well as a lecturer, had good reputation among his contemporaries for his scientific works (P. Verkhovskyi, S. Rozhdestvenskyi) and lecturing abilities (A. Viazyhin, S. Platonov). He had an immense teaching experience, great erudition, and deep knowledge of the current material on the subject, was able to operate fluently with the scientific data and could explain well the information to his students or readers.

The Influence of Assignment of Lecturers at School (ALS) Program on Students Learning Motivation in Tarakan City

Borneo Tarakan University which is the only State University that prepares educators in the North Kalimantan region to take part to help realize the School Lecturers Assignment Program (LAS) which is a program from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education which aims to facilitate lecturers to directly becoming "teachers" in the School to improve the quality of prospective teacher students. The aims of study of: to know the description of Assignment of Lecturers at School (ALS) program, to know the description of student learning motivation, and to know the influence of the Assignment of Lecturers at School (ALS) program on student motivation in Tarakan City. The techniques used in collecting data are observation, questionnaires, and observation. While data processing and data analysis is done by descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. The results of the study show that the description of the implementation of lecturer assignments in schools in a good category, while students learning motivation in the high category, and there a positive and significant influence between the implementation Assignment of Lecturers at School (ALS) program in learning motivation in Tarakan, which was 52.5%

Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kız Öğrencilerinde Meme Kanseri Farkındalığı ve Kendi Kendine Meme Muayenesi

Abstract Objective: Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Turkey, following cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination (BSE) among undergraduate female medical school students of Kocaeli University. Methods: This study was carried out among 533 female (mean age 21.2 ±1.9 years; range 17-28) students in the 2014-2015 educational year. A semi-structured questionnaire with five parts (socio-demographics, anthropometric measurements, individual and famlial reproductive and obstetric histories, breast self examination knowledge and pratice frequency, knowledge about breast cancer risk factors) awas used. Results: More than half of the students (n=309, 58%) indicated that they had enough information about breast cancer. Main source of information was “Medical School Lectures” (n=330, 61.9%). According to The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Form, all of the students had “low risk / below 200 score”. Self rated breast cancer risk was “0” according to 43(9.1%) students; 40.4% (191/472) of students perceived their risks 50% and over. Mean knowledge score was 13.53±2.46; 41/533 students had 17/17 points. Breast self examination was performed “at least monthly” by 128 (57.7%) although 414 (77.7%) of the students declared to know BSE. More than a quarter of the participants (n=165, 30.9%) described BSE and 122 (73.9%) of these descriptions were “sufficient”. As for the reasons of “not performing BSE”; 109 of the students reported BSE as “unnecessary”. Conlusion: Female medical school students who have low risk scores for breast cancer are knowledgeable about breast cancer but still a considerable part of them refrain BSE. Bu çalışmanın amacı Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi’ndeki kız öğrencilerin kendi kendine meme muayenesi (KKMM) hakkında bilgi ve davranışlarını araştırmaktır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma 2014-2015 eğitim yılında yaşları 17 ile 28 arasında bulunan 533 kız öğrencinin katılımı ile gerçekleşmiştir. Beş bölümden oluşan yarı yapılandırılmış anket ile sosyodemgrafik bilgiler, beden ölçüleri, bireye ve aileye ait tıbbi öykü, KKMM bilme ve uygulamasına dair bilgiler ile meme kanseri risk faktörleri hakkındaki bilgiler sorgulanmıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin yarısından fazlası (n=309, %58) meme kanseri hakkında yeterli bilgiye sahip olduklarını belitmişlerdir. Bilginin ana kaynağı 330 öğrenci (%61,9) tarafından “Dersler” olarak gösterilmiştir. Meme Kanseri Riski Değerlendirme Ölçeği’ne göre öğrencilerin tamamı “düşük risk” grubunda yer almaktaydı. Kırküç öğrencinin kendilerine atfettikleri meme kanseri riski “0” iken 191 öğrenci bu riski %50 ve üzerinde belirtmiştir. Ortalama bilgi puanı 13,53±2,46 idi ve 41 öğrenci 17 tam puan aldı. KKMM bildiğini söyleyen 414 (%77,7) öğrenci olmasına rağmen 128’i (%57,7) “ayda en az bir defa” KKMM yapıyordu. KKMM tarifini yapan 165 (%30,9) öğrenciden 122’si (%73,9) “yeterli” olarak değerlendirildi. KKMM 109 öğrenci tarafından “gereksiz” bulunduğu için yapılmıyordu. Sonuç: Meme kanseri için düşük riske sahip tıp fakültesi kız öğrencileri yeterli bilgiye sahip olmalarına rağmen hala düzenli KKMM yapma oranları düşüktür. Measuring plant colors.

Plant colors such as 'green leaf' and 'red apple' are often described based on human sense, even in scientific papers. On the other hand, colors are measured based on colorimetric principles in some papers, especially in the studies of horticultural plants. The science of color measurements ('colorimetry') is not included in any of the popular lectures in schools and universities, thus the principles of color measurements would not be understood by most researchers. The present review will overview the principles of colorimetry, and will introduce colorimetric methods which can be used for scientific measurement of plant colors. That is to say, the reflection spectrum of visible light (380-780 nm) is measured at 5-nm intervals on the surface of leaves or petals in 'Spectrometric Color Measurement' (SCM). The spectral data is multiplied with RGB or XYZ color matching functions and integrated to obtain RGB or XYZ intensities. Alternatively, approximate RGB values are directly obtained in 'Photographic Color Measurement' (PCM). RGB/XYZ intensities are further calculated to obtain 'hue', 'saturation', and 'lightness', the three factors of colors. Colorimetric insights into genetic regulations (such as MYB gene) and physiological regulations (such as alexandrite effect) of plant colors are also described.

ВИКЛАДАЧІ СПЕЦІАЛЬНИХ ДИСЦИПЛІН ВВНЗ: СТАН ПІДГОТОВЛЕНОСТІ ТА НАПРЯМИ ЇЇ УДОСКОНАЛЕННЯ

Introduction: There is a task before the national higher military educational institutions – to prepare the scientific pedagogical specialists, who could unite the deep fundamental military professional knowledge, practical experience and pedagogical excellence with constantly increasing challenges of modern society to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and military higher education system in their military activities. The pedagogical qualification system improvement stipulates the research of military teachers readiness for the pedagogical work modern state. The purpose is to highlight the actual state, problematic issues and directions of improvement of higher military educational institutions special subjects lecturers preparedness. Methods : theoreical: analysis of the theoretical: scientific researches and normative and legal documents, which determines the demands to the higher military school lecturers preparedness; views and facts comparison concerning the investigated topic in historical context with modern state ; prognosis to determine the conditions and directions of effective implementation of the system of principles, rules, demands, which directs lecturers cognitive activities. Empirical: questionnaires, conversation, direct and indirect observation, experts assessment method, self-assessment, testing – were used with the aim of determining the level of higher military educational institutions special subjects lecturers professional competence formedness. Results: The statistical data, obtained as a result of the research, permitted to determine the priority directions to improve the scientific pedagogical personnel postgraduate education system. These are: lecturers familiarization with modern education conceptions, theories, approaches, scientific investigation preparation and pedagogical diagnosing. Originality: The complex investigation of the higher military educational institutions special subjects lecturers preparedness allowed to determine some drawbacks in their preparation, also as some suggestions concerning the directions of pedagogical qualification improvement and the problems in proper organization and pedagogical conditions provision of pedagogical activities in higher military educational institutions. Conclusion : The problem of professional development of higher military educational institutions lecturers, the solving of which is seen in the professional development in the postgraduate education system by involving the teachers to the pedagogical qualification development courses and distance learning.

O Campus da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria em Cachoeira do Sul iniciou suas atividades em 2014 com cinco cursos de graduação: Arquitetura e Urbanismo; Engenharia Agrícola; Engenharia Elétrica; Engenharia Mecânica; e Engenharia de Transportes e Logística. Na concepção do campus da UFSM em Cachoeira do Sul (UFSM-CS), considerou-se a necessidade de profissionais na área tecnológica para atender a demanda regional e nacional. No entanto, é notável que a população de Cachoeira do Sul e região ainda está mal informada sobre os cursos oferecidos pela UFSM-CS. No intuito de amenizar esse problema, está em andamento o Programa UFSM-CS vai às Escolas que tem como principal objetivo apresentar, aos alunos do ensino médio de escolas públicas e particulares, os cursos ofertados pela UFSM-CS. Esse projeto está sendo desenvolvido em duas etapas: na primeira etapa, é aplicado um questionário sobre os conhecimentos prévios da comunidade escolar cachoeirense sobre o campus da UFSM. Na segunda etapa, é realizado um ciclo de palestras nas escolas públicas e particulares para divulgar os cursos de graduação do campus de Cachoeira do Sul e é aplicado outro questionário para verificar se o ciclo de palestrar despertou o interesse desses alunos a ingressarem no ensino superior na UFMS-CS e/ou em outra instituição. Neste trabalho apresentaremos uma análise estatística dos dados obtidos através dos questionários para servir de suporte a futuros projetos de extensão com as escolas de Cachoeira do Sul e região. Resultados mostram que cerca de 80% dos alunos pretendem ingressar em uma instituição de ensino superior e que 70% não sabem quais cursos são oferecidos pela UFSM-CS. Após a apresentação dos seminários, 92% dos alunos acharam o mesmo esclarecedor.

Peningkatan Kualitas Pembelajaran Melalui Kemitraan Dosen dan Guru

The assignment of lecturers to schools aims to improve the quality of learning. The implementation of Lecturer-to-School Assignment conducted at Kalijudan 01/59 Elementary School, Muhammadiyah 10 Junior High School, Baitussalam Junior High School, and Muhammadiyah 7 Senior High School of Surabaya provided many experiences for lecturers of FKIP UMSurabaya and partner school teachers. Differences in perceptions between lecturers and teachers can be understood and straightened out by the existence of lecturer assignment activities to schools. With the assignment of lecturers to the school lecturers and teachers can collaborate with each other to compile an activity plan by seeing and experiencing firsthand experience how to teach in schools with various problems. Lecturers and teachers exchange experiences in learning activities so that learning is more meaningful. Planned and sustainable school assignment activities have a positive impact on FKIP UMSurabaya and partner schools and for improving the quality of education in the Indonesian nation. Learning model innovations and varied media use in learning activities conducted by lecturers can provide motivation to teachers and students in the learning process. With the assignment of lecturers to school this can improve student learning outcomes.

The legal popularization and education among students are remarkably considered by many Vietnamese universities in particular and universities in the world in general. The legal popularization and education among students not only help students improve their awareness of law enforcement but also help students understand the law. This study is aimed to analyze the current situation, limitation of legal popularization and education activities among students in Can Tho University (CTU) from 2014 to 2018. The study diectly interviewed 10 experts who are lecturers of School of Law, staff of Departments in CTU on the legal popularization and education among students. Based on the causes of achievements, limitations such activities, some suggestions were proposed for improving the efficiency of the legal popularization and education activities among students in CTU as well as all universities in home country.

Incorporating LGBT Health in an Undergraduate Medical Education Curriculum Through the Construct of Social Determinants of Health.

The AAMC has provided a resource to medical schools for implementing curricular change in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) health education. However, studies have identified that many health professionals who do not feel comfortable in their ability to provide quality care for LGBT patients do not perform complete sexual histories routinely and/or harbor bias towards these patients or their sexual practices. This situation underscores the continued need for further education on this topic. Based on a needs assessment survey of medical students and faculty, we developed a 1-hour didactic lecture to provide instruction on how social determinants of health impact the care of LGBT patients. Students were not required to have any prerequisite knowledge for the session. A content expert in LGBT health taught the lecture using Microsoft PowerPoint in a traditional medical school lecture hall. The lecture was given to 180 third-year medical students. A total of 63 students (35%) responded to the retrospective pre- and postlecture survey. After the didactic lecture, students reported a statistically significant change in their knowledge of the lecture objectives. The didactic lecture was able to increase students' knowledge of how social determinants impact the health of LGBT patients. The lecture can be incorporated into a longitudinal curriculum on LGBT health. Additional work and research are needed on increasing comfort in faculty teaching.
