Green knowledge management: a bibliometric analysis, research trends and future directions

Purpose Green knowledge management (GKM) has become a critical factor for modern organizations, offering a multifaceted approach to enhancing business operations while promoting environmental sustainability. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature and explore how GKM helps companies reduce their ecological footprint by digitalizing processes and minimizing physical storage needs, thus aligning with growing expectations for corporate environmental responsibility. The necessity for conducting a GKM review is underscored by the increasing recognition of sustainability, environmental performance and as a critical component of organizational corporate success in the contemporary business landscape. Design/methodology/approach This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 994 papers related to GKM from 2005 until August 2024. Findings Over the 20 years of research on GKM, this bibliometric analysis drew the interlinked relationships between main theme of KM in the context of sustainable practices, processes, social and related theories. This study identifies green innovation, digital transformation, green and lean supply chains, leadership and technology tools. Future research can explore themes such as green and lean processes, barriers and enablers, role of leadership and ambidexterity in green supply chain integration using different theoretical lenses. Research limitations/implications Although the findings of this study are important to GKM research, there are a number of limitations to this investigation. The research database used exclusively was the Web of Science and Scopus, which contained the indexed papers. Future investigations may draw from various databases, such as EBSCO and Google Scholar. Additionally, the use of topic modelling and other artificial intelligence frameworks could enhance research analysis. Subsequently, research papers may expand their scope to encompass conference papers, books and book chapters, in addition to articles. Practical implications This review gives a holistic understanding of GKM practices across various sectors which not only enhances organizational performance but also contributes to broader environmental goals. This study offers an understanding on GKM on holistic approach that combines total quality management (TQM), absorptive capacity and collaborative frameworks to foster innovation and sustainability. Originality/value It is evident from the review that research in GKM is evolving gaining momentum. This review provides a comprehensive understanding of the GKM literature, from its earliest forms of basic concepts aligned with the sustainability and progressing more into the concepts of GKM adoption for green innovation by highlighting multiple theories, factors and gaps in the studies.

RESEARCH INTERESTS OF RUSSIAN SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELD OF LEADERSHIP IN MANAGEMENT: PUBLICATION ON CONTENT ANALYSIS

The article contains the results of a content analysis of scientific publications for 2023, dedicated to leadership in management, governance and management, related to the topic “Economics. Economic Sciences". The material for the analysis was scientific publications posted on the portal of the scientific electronic library eLIBRARY.RU, and the analysis was carried out using Python libraries. The article discusses the problem of finding the most relevant areas of research by Russian authors studying leadership in management in 2023. The idea is substantiated that with the help of statistical analysis of the frequency of use of words and phrases (bigrams and trigrams) it is possible to identify the most popular topics of leadership in management among researchers. To conduct the study, 61 scientific publications were used. The frequency of use of words and phrases (bigrams and trigrams) was analyzed to identify the most popular topics. It was revealed that the attention of researchers dealing with leadership in management was related to issues of organization, system, state, modernity and role. Determined: frequently encountered topics in research turned out to be problems in the field of studying public administration, as well as the roles and tools of leadership in management. Compiled: a graph of word frequency distribution (without the words “leadership”, “management”, “management”, “management”) and a cloud of frequently occurring words. The practical significance of the study has been proven: when reading this material, you can see on which topics on leadership in management/governance/governance the largest number of works have been published, and which topics have been studied to a lesser extent. The results of the study can serve as the basis for a number of subsequent studies related to leadership in management/management and management, reproducing the method used in the work.

Educational evaluation research in Asia: a scoping review

ABSTRACT This scoping review examines the landscape of educational evaluation research in Asia over the past decade, uncovering the methodologies, themes, and unique regional challenges within this domain. By delving into 62 articles from evaluation-centric journals, the study reveals a predominant focus on learning, teaching, and assessment, highlighting the importance of pedagogical methods and learning outcomes. The review also notes a significant emphasis on institutional-level evaluation, with China leading in contributions. Despite the rich insights offered, this review points to gaps in leadership and evaluation tools, suggesting areas for future exploration. Ultimately, this review aims to enrich global discussions on educational evaluation, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive understanding of Asia’s diverse and evolving educational evaluation practices.

All Dressed Up With No Place to Go? National Board Certification and Teacher Leadership

Purpose: Teacher leadership distinguishes, implicitly or explicitly, among teachers based on their expertise, but the notion of teaching expertise is contested, even among educators. Despite the potential for expert teachers to positively influence their colleagues’ practices, we know little about the supports and obstacles to expert teacher leadership. This study examines the ways that the leadership of a particular group of expert teachers—National-Board-certified teachers—is understood and enacted in schools. Methods: Survey data from staff in six elementary schools were used to analyze Board-certified teachers’ centrality in their schools’ work-related social networks. Survey results were used to select 26 participants for semistructured interviews focused on their understandings of the relationships between teaching expertise, Board certification, and leadership, which were analyzed using alternating rounds of open and closed coding. Findings: Board-certified teachers were more central to their schools’ networks than non-Board-certified teachers, although Board-certified teachers interacted with one another more than with non-Board-certified teachers. Board-certified teachers were seen as having expanded influence beyond their classrooms, which some saw as supporting their leadership, but others saw as disconnected from, or even undermining, their leadership. Implications for Research and Practice: Teacher leadership requires a supporting infrastructure in the form of leadership positions, routines, and tools that align with leaders’ expertise. Developing a shared understanding of teaching expertise is key to Board-certified teacher leadership, as well as other teacher leadership efforts.

More than pinpricks and quick-fixes: Urban acupuncture and aesthetic governmentality in Bandung

This paper presents a critical analysis of the urban acupuncture movement in Bandung through the lens of aesthetic governmentality (Ghertner, 2015). Drawing on qualitative data collected online and on-site, I propose two ways in which aesthetic governmentality extends to Bandung. First, I explore how the interactions between urban acupuncture and the political context of Indonesian Islamist urbanism (Kusno, 2022) have shaped and been shaped by the Bandung aesthetic governmentality regime. Secondly, I highlight how Instagram has become a political tool for Bandung leadership's aesthetic campaigning. My overarching argument is to show how urban acupuncture – originally created as a form of grassroots urbanism in Bandung – has been co-opted by the city government to create aesthetic images that serve as masking mechanism to impose state control beneath the façade of a seemingly organic, bottom-up community movement. The Bandung case, the paper concludes, points to a unique form of aesthetic governmental logic, where photogenic images of acupunctural beautifications have been used as political tools to deflect attention away from the fact that deep underlying infrastructure problems – such as traffic jams and poor park maintenance – and resident needs for functional public spaces remain unaddressed.

Dynamic Leadership Tools Supporting Psychological Needs Satisfaction in Public Organizations: Experimental Evidence

Public leadership is increasingly conducted through digital information technology, and dynamic leadership tools are offered as alternatives to static tools. As a first test of dynamic leadership tools in public leadership, this study focuses on leadership tools for visionary leadership. The study examines whether the positive effect on employee needs satisfaction of dynamic leadership tools based on persuasive information technology is stronger than for static leadership tools. The study involves a field experiment on leadership training combined with leadership tools and shows that dynamic tools indeed have a stronger impact than static tools on satisfying employee needs for meaning and employee perception of prosocial impact. This research contributes to the understanding of how information technology can be harnessed to support public leadership and highlights the potential benefits of dynamic leadership tools in supporting beneficial employee outcomes.

EU Climate Leadership: Contradictions Inherent in Carbon Regulation

The article analyzes the EU Carbon Border Adjustment mechanism (CBAM) through the lens of the EU’s aspiration to strengthen its leadership in fighting climate change. The introduction of CBAM is viewed as another step toward achieving the EU's goal of climate neutrality, which has become a standard for global development. By studying the internal and external dynamics of CBAM's implementation, the article aims to analyze its role as a tool for diplomatic and exemplary leadership. On the one hand, the EU seeks to protect European producers from producers from countries with lower climate standards. On the other hand, the EU’s desire to involve other countries in creating CBAM-style mechanisms is supposed to strengthen the EU’s leadership, contributing to the formation of multilateral “climate clubs” and the gradual revision of the existing climate regime. However, the article suggests that there are inherent contradictions in the EU's approach. While it seeks to protect its economy through CBAM, it also frames these measures within the narrative of multilateral cooperation. This dual approach poses challenges to the EU's leadership potential. The protectionist nature of CBAM makes other global players, primarily the U.S., follow the same path of taking protective measures. China is not willing to give up its own framing of the climate agenda due to its importance for the construction of China’s international identity. Russia’s perception of the climate change problem is infl uenced by its national interests and the structure of economy. The projection of regulatory power beyond the EU’s borders also provokes resistance from developing and least developed countries, which can seriously damage the EU’s role as a normative power.

Individual-level positive psychological capital that enhances managers' transformational leadership effectiveness on nurse career success.

This study investigatedthe impact of nurse managers' transformational leadership on the subjective career success of staff nurses, particularly through exploring potential variations in this relationship based on nurses' positive psychological capital. Amid a challenging nursing environment, nurses' perceptions of career success affect their individual psychological satisfaction and improve work performance. Human resource strategies often include factors for workers' subjective career success, e.g., managers' transformational leadership and individual-level positive psychological capital. This cross-sectional study collected survey data in 2021 from 348 staff nurses in 40 wards of a Korean tertiary hospital. The survey instruments included the Transformational Leadership tool, the Subjective Career Success Inventory, and the Psychological Capital Questionnaire. Multilevel hierarchical regression analysis and a simple slope test were used to examine moderating effects. The STROBE checklist was used for reporting. Nurses reported significantly higher subjective career success when they worked in units where unit managers' transformational leadership was greater. This relationship strengthened when nurses had high positive psychological capital. To enhance staff nurses' perceptions of career success, both managers' transformational leadership and individual nurses' positivity should be emphasized in nursing practice and education. Comprehensive efforts to highlight managers' transformational leadership and staff nurses' positive psychological capital can enhance subjective career success, which in turn improve nurses' job performance and intention to stay. Nursing policymakers should value transformational leadership among managers so nurses can achieve their subjective goals. An organization-wide institutional system should be developed so nurses can receive support to strengthen their positivity. Future research should include interventions to foster managers' leadership and nurses' positive capital.

This study examined the intricate use of metaphorical language by President Joe Biden inaugural address, revealing its profound impact on political rhetoric and public perception. Utilizing conceptual metaphor theory as a framework, this study thoroughly identified and analyzed different types of metaphors in Biden's speech: conceptual, structural, and cultural. The analysis revealed how these metaphors transcend mere linguistic ornamentation and serve as fundamental cognitive tools that shape collective understanding and emotional connection. Biden’s speech, which is rich in metaphors, transforms complex political and social challenges into relatable stories and images that, resonate deeply with a wide audience. This study also contextualizes metaphorical use in a broader historical and cultural context, highlighting the dynamic nature of the political discourse. Moreover, it sheds light on the educational importance of understanding metaphors, emphasizing their roles in enhancing communication and rhetorical skills in various fields. This study offers deeper insight into the strategic use of metaphors in political rhetoric and how they play a crucial role in the interplay between language, cognition, and persuasion.

Validity and Reliability of 360 Degree Healthcare Leadership Model

Background/Purpose: Leadership assessments in the literature based on only self-reports but this is not enough anymore. It could be evaluated by all stakeholders. The objective of this study was to investigate the goodness of fit of 360 degree healthcare leadership scale developed by National Health System Leadership Academy in Turkish population and carry out reliability and validity of the 360 degree healthcare leadership model. Methods: This is a questionnaire validation study. It was conducted in 10 public hospitals with 750 healthcare professionals. Healthcare managers assessed their own leadership skills (171 participants). Later, healthcare professionals were assessed by peers, managers and direct reports, and a 360-degree assessment was completed. Validity, internal consistency and CFA was conducted in this study via SPSS and SPSS AMOS software. Results: Item-total correlation was above 0.30. The Cronbach’s α values were between 0.72 and 0.86 in sub dimensions. Construct validity scores are as follows: CMIN/DF: 2.32; CFI: 0.89; GFI: 0.77; NFI: 0.83; IFI: 0.90. Conclusion: Turkish version of 360 degree healthcare leadership model which included 9 dimensions was approved its applicability in Turkish healthcare organizations and it could be a valuable measurement tool for effective leadership.

The success elements of humor use in workplace leadership: A proposed framework with cognitive and emotional competencies.

This qualitative study aims to investigate the competencies and effectiveness of humor use in workplace leadership. By exploring the elements underlying successful and unsuccessful humor use, this research offers insights into the competencies required for leaders to leverage humor effectively. Adopting a qualitative inductive approach, fifteen individual semi-structured interviews were conducted, generating a dataset of 51 critical incidents of humor use. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed to identify key themes, resulting in the identification of five central elements: Reading the context, Intention and motivation, Judgement and decision, Skillful delivery, and Understanding reactions. These elements provide a comprehensive framework for understanding humor use in the context of workplace leadership, emphasizing the importance of cognitive and emotional intelligence / competencies. The study proposes a theoretical framework based on these findings, providing the foundation of a new paradigm for understanding and measuring humor use. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the competencies and complexities involved in using humor as a leadership tool and provides practical implications for leaders aiming to enhance their leadership effectiveness through humor.

Reproducible research practices: A tool for effective and efficient leadership in collaborative statistics.

With data and code sharing policies more common and version control more widely used in statistics, standards for reproducible research are higher than ever. Reproducible research practices must keep up with the fast pace of research. To do so, we propose combining modern practices of leadership with best practices for reproducible research in collaborative statistics as an effective tool for ensuring quality and accuracy while developing stewardship and autonomy in the people we lead. First, we establish a framework for expectations of reproducible statistical research. Then, we introduce Stephen M.R. Covey's theory of trusting and inspiring leadership. These two are combined as we show how stewardship agreements can be used to make reproducible coding a team norm. We provide an illustrative code example and highlight how this method creates a more collaborative rather than evaluative culture where team members hold themselves accountable. The goal of this manuscript is for statisticians to find this application of leadership theory useful and to inspire them to intentionally develop their personal approach to leadership.

Being AND Becoming a Wise Leader

Despite the burgeoning literature around leadership there is a lack of theoretical integration as well as practical inconsistencies in terms of how its insights relate to actually a) being a leader and b) becoming a leader. Utilizing a wisdom-based template offers a path to synergistically combine academic models so to gain a holistic understanding of its higher-order mega-competencies – foundational, multidimensional and context specific leadership tools – and its subsequent meta-heuristics – capacities for matching appropriate leadership identities, roles, and behaviors to address dominant leadership challenges. As such, and specifically by focusing on ideas seeded from the foundational work of Plato’s Republic, this type of perspective represents a potentially useful approach for reconciling seemingly divergent approaches and advance how we might think about the leadership role and its intersection with transcendent ideas of reason, emotion, value, spirit, connection, and success.

Creating an integrated strategic plan

The modern surgical leader now requires many tools for successful leadership. One critical tool is developing an integrated strategic plan where team and culture are developed with a directed common mission. This mission or strategic plan must fit within certain constraints, such as the larger institutional goals and constrained resources. To help develop this strategic plan, the surgical leader has many resources to use. The most common strategic planning tool is the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats analysis. Here, both internal and external factors are evaluated. From here, the contribution will review the Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental analysis (ideal for external factors) and Mission, Objectives, Strategies and Tactics analysis (ideal for internal factors), along with the Blue Ocean Strategy, Scenario Planning, and Ansoff Matrix, all of which are excellent for future planning. Porter’s Five Forces will review standard competing forces, whereas Six Sigma reviews measurable process development, and Balanced Scorecard provides the framework for measurable advancements. After the paper, the reader will better understand the various tools that can be used to develop an integrated strategic plan.

Unveiling the chameleon

Collaborative practices are at the heart of the development process in educational programme and course design. Collaboration between partners is essential in learning design projects as it brings together diverse perspectives, expertise, and skills to create effective learning experiences. However, it also presents numerous challenges that can hinder the collaborative process. This paper draws on the experiences of an academic developer and an online learning designer over several online/blended projects carried out in a higher education setting, individually and together. As co-project leaders in the design and development cycle, the authors critically examine through a reflective lens how leadership, behavioral characteristics and digital tools support successful collaborations in their learning design projects. The paper discusses recommendations that strengthen partnerships and support collaborations.

Theoretical Research into Leadership for Sustainability

Given the social and environmental challenges facing all organizations, there is a need for new leadership models, methods, and tools for implementing organizational change for sustainable development. Thus, throughout this article, it is reviewed the current approaches to leadership for sustainability in terms of their conceptual frameworks and extant research, which all advocate a balanced stakeholder approach to leadership to address the social and environmental issues related to sustainability and sustainable development. Being drawn from spiritual and centered on leadership theories, the article offers a Global Leadership for Sustainability model that incorporates and extends the conceptual domain beyond current approaches to leadership for sustainability. Spirituality, through the qualities of self-transcendence and interconnectedness, is critical for sustainability and fundamental for Global Leadership for Sustainability. The article also emphasizes the importance of cultivating a Global Mindset for Sustainability, which incorporates two ethical principles—an ethic of remote moral responsibility and an ethic of care and compassion. As a result, global leaders for sustainability become more committed to moving beyond satisfying stakeholders’ demands for economic returns, towards a more sustainable, triple-bottom line, balanced approach. Finally, we discuss implications for theory, research, and practice. Global leaders for sustainability are consequently more dedicated to adopting a triple-bottom-line, balanced approach that goes beyond meeting stakeholders' needs for financial gains. To change the paradigm of leadership and develop leaders who can cooperate to tackle difficult sustainability challenges, sustainability education is crucial. An up-to-date and broadened understanding of leadership is what ‘leadership for sustainability' means, putting sustainable values into practice, leading from a paradigm of living processes, and developing an inclusive, collaborative, and reflective leadership style. To make recommendations for best practices in leadership development, this study reviews and integrates literature on leadership, leadership development, and sustainability education. The following are some recommended pedagogical strategies for developing leaders: self-observation and awareness, contemplation, inquiry into various and ecological viewpoints, experiential learning, and community engagement.

Crisis Management for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden under COVID 19 Pandemic: Business Model Innovation, Crisis Leadership and Digital Technology Tools

As we all know, the global crisis of the Covid 19 pandemic has brought about a disaster to the whole economy; it hits the SMEs heavily due to their frangibility. However, they have their unique flexibility to adapt the strategies quickly in the three critical factors of business model innovation, crisis leadership and digital technology tools to cope with the crisis. This paper provides a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative analysis of the SMEs in Sweden. We collect data by questionnaire and interview five (5) local SMEs. The results show that SMEs were affected by Covid 19 significantly, while the strategies that they took were also efficient and useful to their survival and improvement. The SMEs' strategies or changes adopted can give some light to the other SMEs who are still struggling in the pandemic or similar crisis later on. Firstly, all participants adopted a new business model whatever in their customers or suppliers or distributions. Secondly, the leaders became used to the virtual work with their team members; they motivated their employees with efficient rewards and adjusted the labour cost. Thirdly, the companies also took advantage of efficient digital technology tools quickly to adapt their work to the virtual environment. Finally, this study also contributes to current literature, using the essential factors to analysis from a theoretical perspective.

Academic leaders navigating change: a comprehensive bibliometric review paper of crucial leadership capabilities and managerial competencies

ABSTRACT This paper explores the intertwined yet distinct roles and responsibilities of leadership and management within higher education institutions. The study underscores the importance of identifying key differentiating indicators of academic leadership and management while emphasizing the need to enhance leadership and management development programs to align with the ever-evolving higher education landscape. Our focus centers on crucial leadership capabilities and managerial competencies exhibited by academic leaders, placing particular emphasis on the value of the academic leadership capability framework as a facilitative tool for academic leadership and management development. After establishing the context of the study, we conduct a selective review of relevant research aimed at identifying effective academic leadership qualities. Next, we delve into the academic leadership capability framework, offering comprehensive insights into its applicability. The paper proceeds to introduce the bibliometric methodology employed, explaining how 610 Scopus-indexed publications on academic leadership and management development, spanning 53 years (1970 to mid-July 2023), were systematically analyzed. Presenting the bibliometric results, we engage in a comprehensive discussion concerning the theoretical and practical/societal implications derived from our findings. Finally, the paper concludes by providing recommendations for future research in this vital domain.
