Investigation of a device for recording images in a lead magnoniobate crystal

An investigation was made of an electro-optic device for optical recording of images in a lead magnoniobate crystal. The characteristics of this device with photoconducting CdS and ZnS films were determined (these films were selected so as to obtain the desired voltage distribution in a multilayer system). The device ensured a high image contrast and a strong modulation under low voltages and for low recorded light intensities.

Electro-optical and some optical properties of lead magnoniobate crystals

Abstract The Miller's nonlinear coefficients were calculated using experimental values of the electro-optical coefficients and the refractive index at various light wavelengths in lead magnoniobate crystals. A noticeable dispersion of these coefficients is observed. The resemblance of the dispersion parameters of DiDomenico's and Wemple's model in lead magnoniobate and other oxygen octahedral ferroelectrics is shown. The low value of polarization potential observed possibly is due to influence of the lead sublattice and the orientation polarization. The infrared absorption and Raman scattering spectra are investigated. A wide nonresonant band is discovered. Some specific optical and electro-optical properties are discussed in connection with the diffuseness of the ferroelectric phase transition in the crystal under investigation
