Direct laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry characterization of some aromatic lanthanide carboxylates

Abstract The composition of some aromatic terbium carboxylates TbL 3 (HL = Hpobz: 2-phenoxybenzoic acid; HPA: phenylanthranylic acid; HSal: salicylic acid; Habz: anthranylic acid) and their mixed-ligand complexes TbL 3 (TPPO) n (TPPO: triphenylphosphine oxide; n = 1, 2) was studied by direct laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS). The influence of the ligands composition on the oligomerization of complex molecules and stability of oligomeric ions during LDI MS experiment was established.

Thermal Decomposition of Fullerene Derivatives A Synthesis Method of New Fullerene Based Molecules

The thermal decomposition of methano-fullerene derivatives such as ethoxycarbonyl methano[60] fullerene and various isomers of bis-(ethoxycarbonyl methano)[60] fullerene leads to new fullerene derivatives, which have been preliminary characterized. The analysis of separated species was performed by UV-VIS, IR, H- and C-NMR, STM, FAB, LDI and MALDI-TOF MS spectroscopy. One of the isolated phases is a C122 molecule with a dumbbell-like structure.

Principles and applications of matrix-assisted UV-laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (LDI MS) has shown its potential for desorbing ions of biomolecules with relative molecular masses ( M r ) up to about 300 000 daltons. Determinations of M r with an accuracy of 0.01–0.2% from about 1 pmol of sample are possible. Examples are shown for proteins, glycoproteins, oligonucleotides and carbohydrates. Examples of the combination of LDI MS with biochemical methods are shown, including the determination of the carbohydrate content of glycoproteins, the identification of disulphide-bonded subunits by cleavage of the light and heavy chains of a monoclonal antibody, the detection of the time course of enzymatic reactions and the analysis of proteins bound to a PVDF membrane.
