Religious Unification, Regional Divergence: Exploring Multifaceted Linguistic Practices and Identities among the Israeli Druze and the Druze Community in the Golan Heights

This study delves into a comparative analysis of language and identity within two distinct Druze communities: those residing in the Golan Heights, who transitioned from Syrian to Israeli governance post the 1967 War, and their counterparts within Israel proper. Both communities find themselves situated as 'sandwiched' communities, with the Golan Druze caught between Israeli and Syrian nationalisms and the Israeli Druze positioned amid the dynamics of Israel and the Arabs. Given the fluid nature of collective identities, which are subject to continuous shaping by sociopolitical influences within and beyond state boundaries, this study focuses on two pivotal political debates in each community during the fieldwork period. The Israeli Druze community is primarily concerned with the Israeli-Nation State law controversy. Meanwhile, the Golan Heights Druze community is grappling with the intensifying and widely publicized speculation regarding secret negotiations between Assad's regime and Israel, which suggests that the Golan was sold to Israel rather than being a result of a 'lost war.' This study explores how these debates gradually shape the collective identities of the respective communities. The research illuminates how navigating between opposing forces leads to the emergence of novel national identities and linguistic variations within these 'sandwiched' contexts.

Sharing Your Husband: Adult Attachment Styles and Emotional Responses of Israeli Bedouin-Arab Women to Potential Polygynous Marriage.

Polygynous marriage is prevalent among Israel's Bedouin-Arab community, despite being explicitly banned by state law. Cultural traditions and customs permit men to take multiple wives, and Islamic teachings do not prohibit the practice. The impact of polygyny is significant, affecting women, children, and society as a whole in various ways. We examined the connections that attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance had with hypothetical responses to the potential threat of polygynous marriages in a community sample of young unmarried Israeli Bedouin-Arab women (n = 306). Participants were randomly assigned to imagine either a high-threat scenario (i.e., finding that their husband decided to take a second wife; n = 151) or a low-threat scenario (i.e., their husband would not decide to take a second wife; n = 155) and report their anticipated responses to these scenarios. Results showed that attachment anxiety was positively associated with anticipated negative emotional responses in the high-threat condition but not in the low-threat condition. However, neither attachment anxiety nor attachment avoidance were associated with the perceived threat of polygyny to their marriage. The findings of this study suggest that attachment styles play a significant role in shaping women's perceptions and reactions to hypothetical polygynous marriages. Women with anxious attachment styles are more likely to experience intensified negative emotions regarding such marriages, while those with avoidant attachment styles may display greater tolerance toward polygyny. These results highlight the need for tailored interventions and support systems that take into account individual psychological profiles as well as the broader cultural context of Israeli Bedouin-Arab society.

Attic retraction pocket: a review

Attic retraction pocket (ARP) is one of the important sequelae of eustachian tube dysfunction or otitis media with effusion. It is associated with the loss of original histological and anatomical structure at the attic region. Clinical observation usually shows that negative nasopharyngeal pressure is associated with the development of ARP. However, LaPlace’s law states that the pressure within a sphere varies with the inverse of the radius, which gives a dynamic explanation for why the pars flaccida retract more frequently than the pars tensa leading to the development of ARP. It may develop ossicular chain erosion, cholesteatoma formation, and potentially life-threatening complications due to cholesteatoma. It is thought that blockade of the tympanic isthmus results in isolation of the attic and adjacent middle ear spaces and that subsequent makes negative pressure in these spaces leading to pars flaccida retraction. The severity of ARP with cholesteatoma varies from well-localized pathology to advanced involvement with complications. The choice of treatment is surgery that depends on the initial pathology, which is also associated with hearing outcomes and the rate of recurrence. This review article discusses on epidemiology, etiopathology, classification, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of ARP.

Ethics in sports industry: when does sports autonomy become an excuse for animal abuse?

Abstract Money pushes sports to extremes. As the rewards for success grow, so does the pressure, with sportspeople pushing themselves ever harder. In equestrian sports, this can mean pushing the horse as well, too often to the point of abuse. This article discusses the beautiful side of equestrianism as well as its darker side, which is a bitter reality for many competition horses. It sets out a comparison of legal standards for equine animal welfare (at the level of international law, EU law and national laws) as well as those coming from sports laws. It also examines dependencies between animal protection rules under EU law and animal protection rules under the laws of individual EU Member States concerning equestrian sports. It aims to answer the questions of whether equestrian sports constitute a general exemption to their being considered animal abuse and on what grounds this exemption might be changed in the future.

Pore-Scale Mechanism Analysis of Enhanced Oil Recovery by Horizontal Well, Dissolver, Nitrogen, and Steam Combined Flooding in Reducer Systems with Different Viscosities for Heavy Oil Thermal Recovery

Horizontal well, dissolver, nitrogen, and steam (HDNS) combined flooding is mainly applied to shallow and thin heavy oil reservoirs to enhance oil recovery. Due to the lack of pore-scale mechanism studies, it is impossible to clarify the oil displacement mechanism of each slug in the process combination and the influence of their interaction on enhanced oil recovery (EOR). Therefore, in this study, HDNS combined flooding technology was simulated in a two-dimensional visualization microscopic model, and three viscosity reducer systems and multi-cycle combined flooding processes were considered. In combination with an emulsification and viscosity reduction experiment, two-dimensional microscopic multiphase seepage experiments were carried out to compare the dynamic seepage law and microscopic occurrence state of multiphase fluids in different systems. The results showed that the ability of three viscosity reducers to improve viscosity reduction efficiency in HDNS combined flooding was A > B > C, and their contributions to the recovery reached 65%, 41%, and 30%, respectively. In the system where a high viscosity reduction efficiency was shown by the viscosity reducer, the enhancements of both sweeping efficiency and displacement efficiency were primarily influenced by the viscosity reducer flooding. Steam flooding collaborated to improve displacement efficiency. The thermal insulation characteristics of N2 flooding may not provide a gain effect. In the system where a low viscosity reduction efficiency was shown by the viscosity reducer, the steam flooding was more important, contributing to 57% of the sweeping efficiency. Nitrogen was helpful for expanding the sweep area of the subsequent steam and viscosity reducer, and the gain effect of the thermal insulation steam chamber significantly improved the displacement efficiency of the subsequent steam flooding by 25%. The interaction of each slug in HDNS combined flooding resulted in the additive effect of increasing production. In actual production, it is necessary to optimize the process and screen the viscosity reducer according to the actual conditions of the reservoir and the characteristics of different viscosity reducers.

Wallimahtul Ursy as the Embryo of the Birth of Marriage Registration According to Islamic Law

This research aims to provide an illustration that by carrying out a marriage according to Islamic religious law without going through a marriage notification at the KUA, known as nikah sirri, then making a walimah to announce the marriage shows that there are no obstacles to the marriage being carried out.This research uses normative juridical research methods using primary, secondary and tertiary legal materials as well as statutory regulations and legal concepts.The results of the research show that if the sirri marriage is carried out by the guardian as a form of announcement to the public, then the marriage is considered valid because the conditions have been fulfilled and are in harmony and can be published which can be interpreted as a form of recording. because previously there was no institution for marriage registration. Walimah shows that a valid marriage has been carried out according to Islamic law, so that there are no longer any obstacles to the marriage. The function of recording according to state law is for everyone to know and serve as evidence for the parties. Making a walimah means wanting to announce the marriage and provide evidence to the public and government that a valid marriage has been carried out so that it can be reported administratively for recording.

Features of the functioning of the sectors against domestic violence of the national police of Ukraine under the conditions of marital state (on the example of the work of the Kharkiv region police)

Problem setting. The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and the National Police of Ukraine, exercising managerial influence and organizational support for the functioning of bodies and units under martial law, is aware of the need to maintain an appropriate level of police efficiency in all areas of its service activities without exception. Such an approach requires the introduction of the most effective and modern methods of police work, and this fully applies to such a component of its service as the prevention and counteraction to domestic violence. There is every reason to consider the intensification of the functioning of the Domestic Violence Sectors of the NPU as one of the important measures aimed at preventing and combating domestic violence. Purpose of research is to investigate and analyze the place and importance of the Domestic Violence Countermeasure Sectors in ensuring the process of improving the activities of the system of bodies and units of the NPU in the field of preventing and combating domestic violence, increasing the effectiveness of preventive and preventive measures and response measures as the main task of combating domestic violence. Analysis of recent researches and publications. Problematic issues of preventing and combating domestic violence, defining the role and place of the NPU as one of the role and place of the NPU as one of the key actors in this area of social activity have been the subject of research by such scholars as: O. Bandurka, O. Bezpalova, G. Moshak, M. Panov, H. Yarmaki, etc. The main provisions of the publications of these scholars emphasize the importance of the formation of a legal framework for the NPU to prevent and combat domestic violence, analyzing the impact of conflict situations related to domestic violence on the state of law and order in the state, identifying ways to solve problematic issues in this area in the life of society. The article examines issues related to the need for the proper organization of the official activities of units of the National Police of Ukraine, such as Domestic Violence Countermeasure Sectors (DVCS), the correspondence of the tasks and functions of these units, the importance of ensuring the proper level of their preparedness for modern challenges that exist before the NPU in the conditions of martial law . The importance of the presented research material lies in the effort to emphasize the fact that the organization of the work of the DVCS should be considered not as a certain increase in the functions of the NPU, primarily in the field of preventing and countering domestic violence and which will provide an opportunity to improve some statistical indicators, but as an opportunity to increase the efficiency of work the police as a whole in the matter of protection of human rights and freedoms, maintenance of public order and security, combating crime. Conclusions and prospects for the development. The above-mentioned situation requires a responsible attitude towards oneself due to the fact that at the current stage we do not observe a tendency to decrease the number of offenses related to manifestations of domestic violence. The article also considers the factors that determine the need for the cooperation of NPU units, in which the prevention and counteraction of domestic violence is one of the main areas of official activity (district police officers and community police officers, domestic violence counteraction sectors, juvenile prevention units). Attention was drawn to the expediency of expanding the range of subjects engaged in activities in the field of prevention and counteraction of domestic violence and gender-based violence, the need to involve in this work not only preventive activity units of the National Police, but other units that are part of the NPU.

Reception of Roman Private Law in Ukrainian Civil Law as Confirmation of Belonging to the European Legal Family

The article is devoted to current issues of civil law, as well as Roman private law in Ukraine. The purpose of the article is to trace the influence of Roman private law on the development of civil law. In the course of the research, a number of general scientific and special methods of cognition were used, including: historical, dialectical, comparative-legal, logical analysis, formal-legal and other methods. Our legal culture has received Roman law, which became the basis for civil law and is still reflected in modern Ukrainian legislation. In the course of the study, it was established that the Civil Code of Ukraine contains articles that are evidence of both direct and indirect reception. Direct reception occurs when the ideas and provisions of Roman private law are transmitted directly from the primary sources of Ancient Roman law. Indirect (derivative) reception occurred when Roman legal ideas and legal solutions were borrowed not directly from primary sources, but through those legal systems where reception had occurred earlier. That is, indirect reception is the perception of the law of other states where this process has already taken place, and not directly through the primary source. We can affirm the successful reception of Roman law in Ukraine through the basic principles of law, moral and social values, which became the basis of the legal provisions of Roman law and the achievements of human social culture. Therefore, the achievements of Roman law are not only in the formation of civil law in Ukraine, but also in the ability to expand legal thinking and respect for law as a value and the main achievement of society. It can be unequivocally stated that civil law, being part of the Romano-Germanic legal system, is a reproduction of Roman private law, which on the one hand, through centuries-old transformation, has acquired a corresponding theoretical content and remains unchanged and relevant to this day. The conclusions obtained during the study of the influence of Roman private law on the development of civil law as a whole develop both the theory of civil law and the philosophy of law and serve as a subject for further research on the genesis of civil law institutions, the origin and essence of most legal norms in Ukrainian civil law.

MODELLING GROWTH STRATEGIES OF TRANSPORT ENTERPRISES IN THE CONDITIONS OF CONTEXT UNCERTAINTY

Modern military conditions and tasks of post-war reconstruction require the development of effective strategies for the activity of transport enterprises of Ukraine to ensure the continuity of supplies of military and humanitarian goods. The purpose of the research was to create a model for the selection of optimal strategies for the development of transport enterprises of Ukraine in the conditions of uncertainty caused by the simultaneous influence of military aggression and the deepening of transport integration of Ukraine with the EU. The Saaty's method was selected for the study, which is based on the construction of fuzzy functions and is the most relevant in the context of the influence of a significant number of unstable exogenous and endogenous factors on the functioning of enterprises. In consideration of the evolving landscape of transportation in the European Union and Ukraine, the authors have distilled the overarching objectives of sustainable transportation development (economic, social, and environmental) into eighteen sub-objectives pertaining to the advancement of enterprises. These objectives are then subjected to expert evaluation. The article presents the findings of this expert ranking exercise, delineating the priorities for transportation enterprises in Ukraine across two distinct periods: the current state of martial law and the subsequent phase of post-war reconstruction. The authors have built a model for selecting optimal strategies for the development of a transport enterprise on the basis of a multi-level hierarchy of priority growth goals in two periods. As strategic alternatives, the authors have chosen the "strategy of limited growth"; "strategy of concentrated growth"; "strategy of diversified growth"; "strategy of integrated growth"; and "combined strategy". The paper determines that the appropriate growth strategies for transport enterprises during the period of martial law would be: a strategy of limited growth (rank 1.827) and a combined strategy (rank 2.0980). In the period of post-war reconstruction, the following growth strategies will be appropriate for implementation: concentrated growth (rank 3.0151) and integrated growth (rank 2.6783). The publication proposes a set of possible options for practical management actions in various functional areas of the transport enterprise (financial, organisational, marketing, social, technological, environmental) in accordance with the defined development strategies under martial law and post-war reconstruction. The practical application of the methodological approach to strategic management of transport enterprises in the context of economic uncertainty developed in the article will help to preserve domestic transport companies in the conditions of war and increase their competitiveness in the post-war period. The comprehensive implementation of the identified strategies will contribute to the development of innovative technologies, as well as European social and environmental transport standards in Ukraine.

The Synergistic Health Threats of State Laws Targeting Marginalized Groups in the United States

Discriminatory state laws have deleterious effects on the health of socially marginalized groups. Health care clinicians, institutions, researchers, and research funders have tended to view different discriminatory laws in isolation, focusing on particular issues or groups. In contrast, intersectionality calls attention to the overlapping and synergistic systems of oppression that discriminatory legislation promotes or upholds, warranting an integrated analysis of these laws. In this analytic essay, we assess discriminatory state laws simultaneously and discuss their implications for health care clinicians, institutions, and researchers. We present a multifunctional model of law and population health that describes how discriminatory law affects health outcomes among marginalized groups. We then draw on publicly available legislation trackers to identify 30 states that have enacted legislation since 2020 that targets Black people and other people of color; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer people; transgender and nonbinary people; and women and other birthing people. Finally, we call for a coordinated, multilateral, and forceful effort by health care professionals, institutions, researchers, and research funders to counter these laws and address their predictable health consequences. Historical and philosophical views on Russia as a country-civilization and the Russian world, which do not differ in uniformity, currently do not have a theoretical and legal justification and legal mechanisms for implementation. In the combination of “I am Society — State — Law — Civilization”, the first four actors are the most mobile quantities, they can change places according to the degree of influence on each other and on Civilization as a whole, and the latter, being a composite alloy of their functioning, seems to be a kind of constant and guarantee of the existence and development of the country. The author sees the Russian world as a self-identifying non-state international cultural and linguistic state of the personality and peoples of multinational Russia, as well as citizens of other states that voluntarily recognize it. From the position of constitutional (state) law, it is assumed that the role of the state and the various structural elements of the country-civilization and the Russian world will be differentiated, giving it a new set of responsibilities to participate in their provision.

Law and Public Policy in the Development of Tourism Villages in Bali (Between Legal Politics and Legal Pluralism)

The legal policy on tourism in Bali is fundamentally planned from a legal aspect as cultural tourism. The underlying thought is that Bali's legal politics of tourism is built on the values of Hindu religion, customs, local wisdom, and upholding the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana. Bali is culturally, religiously, naturally, and humanly unique, with the foundation of its social-religious organization being the customary village (desa adat). Based on this central idea, the legal issues explored are: (1) How is the construction of legal politics in public policy for tourism development (especially in Tourism Villages) in Bali? (2) What are the legal implications for the tourism villages developed in relation to community welfare? The socio-legal research method is interdisciplinary and "hybrid," which will explain the relationship between law and society in shaping public policy related to tourism villages. The research findings indicate that the legal construction in public policy for the development of tourism villages in Bali is built on a concept of law that is culturally meaningful. On one hand, it is constructed based on state law, and on the other hand, it can be managed by Bali's customary law, such as awig-awig, pararem, and customary village regulations (Peraturan Desa adat). The legal implications for customary villages managing tourism villages in Bali are ambiguous in legal choices, particularly in implementation within customary village areas. However, regardless of the legal choice by the customary villages in Bali, the legal goals of utility, certainty, and justice can serve as benchmarks for forming a law that brings happiness.

A scar on the territory: neoliberal multiculturalism and the Temuco bypass

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the racialized subjectivities created by the Temuco bypass. This infrastructure project saw the rerouting of Route 5 (the Chilean section of the Pan-American Highway) through protected indigenous Mapuche lands in the 1990s and early 2000s. The government promoted this project as an emblematic example of success in multicultural negotiation; however, Mapuche leaders and protests along Route 5 represented it as one more case in a long history of state policies reducing indigenous protected lands. Exploring documents published by the Ministry of Public Works, state laws and decrees, written press, conclusions of Mapuche congresses, the documentary film Bypass Temuco: Ta iñ newentumun by Esteban Villarroel, and material traces along Route 5, the article argues that the Temuco bypass provides an example of neoliberal multicultural policy that creates a racialized boundary between a sanctioned indigeneity and its excluded Other. The state uses these subjectivities as a governmentality strategy where multiculturalism integrates indigenous populations (only) as cultural differences susceptible to being commodified, while actively marginalizing non-conforming groups. Roadblocks in the area, conversely, challenge this boundary, revealing the failures of this integrationist narrative and exposing Route 5’s disconnects in material, cultural, and political terms.

ДОСРОЧНОЕ ОСВОБОЖДЕНИЕ ОСУЖДЕННОГО ОТ ОТБЫВАНИЯ НАКАЗАНИЯ В ЭКСТРЕМАЛЬНЫХ УСЛОВИЯХ: НЕКОТОРЫЕ ПРОБЛЕМЫ РЕГУЛИРОВАНИЯ

Based on the analysis of the provisions of the Federal Constitutional Law «On the State of Emergency», the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the Penal Code of the Russian Federation and other normative legal acts, a number of shortcomings in the regulation of parole, replacement of the unserved part of the punishment with a milder one and release from punishment due to the illness of the convicted person, accepted by the court in extreme conditions, that is, when natural disasters occur or a state of emergency or martial law is imposed. The article focuses on a number of issues: suspension of the convict’s right to apply for early release, leaving the possibility of such treatment with the administration of the institution or body executing the punishment; attribution of the convict’s participation in emergency rescue and other urgent work to the criteria for parole or replacement of the unserved part of the punishment with a milder one; imputation of post-penitentiary responsibilities related to the elimination of the consequences of extreme conditions; etc.

Understanding abortion legality and trimester of abortion care in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky, three abortion-restrictive states.

In the era of Dobbs, legality of abortion care in the United States depends upon state law. Even before Dobbs, while abortion remained legal mounting restrictions and debate surrounding legal abortion could have led to confusion about abortion legality and discouraged patients from accessing legal abortion. We hypothesized an association between believing abortion is illegal or uncertainty about legality with later timing of abortion care. We surveyed patients seeking abortion care in Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky from April 2020 to April 2021. We asked about their understanding of abortion legality at the time they were first deciding to have an abortion. Using unconditional logistic regression models, we examined associations between beliefs about abortion legality (measured as belief that abortion is legal or sometimes legal versus. illegal or unsure) and timing of abortion care (measured as trimester of abortion). Over half (57%) of the 1,479 patients who met eligibility criteria and completed the survey believed abortion was always legal, 21% thought abortion was sometimes legal, 12% believed abortion was illegal, and 10% did not know. Most (92%) had a first trimester abortion (<14 weeks gestation). Belief that abortion was illegal, or uncertainty about abortion legality, was not significantly associated with second trimester abortion care (unadjusted odds ratio [uOR]: 0.78, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.50-1.20). This association did not change meaningfully after adjusting for demographic and clinical variables (adjusted OR [aOR]: 0.83, 95% CI: 0.51-1.33). More than one in five patients presenting for abortion care in three abortion-restrictive states prior to Dobbs erroneously believed that abortion was illegal or were unsure. Understanding of legality was not significantly associated with timing of abortion care. These misunderstandings could escalate under Dobbs.

Neurodiversity in Saudi Arabia: Towards quality education and reduced inequalities

Traditional educational frameworks in Saudi Arabia have historically adopted a deficit-based approach to special education, potentially overlooking the benefits of neurodiversity. As global educational paradigms shift toward inclusive practices, examining the alignment of Saudi special education laws with neurodiversity principles becomes crucial. This content analysis study aimed to explore the existing literature on special education in Saudi Arabia to ascertain whether the laws and policies support or hinder the practice of neurodiversity, a concept that is gaining international recognition but remains nascent in Saudi Arabia. A systematic literature search was performed in Web of Science and Scopus, yielding 21 relevant studies after screening and application of inclusion criteria. A content analysis was conducted, focusing on the categorization of data relevant to special education laws and their implications for neurodiversity. The analysis identified seven key categories, including Implementation of Inclusive education and transition services, that reflect the current state of special education laws in relation to neurodiversity. A conceptual model was developed, illustrating the potential of special education laws to both support and impede neurodiversity in Saudi Arabia and potentially worldwide.

Women's Right to Choose a Spouse in Saudi Family Law Compared to Shari’a and International Conventions

Among the recent laws issued in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the Personal Status Law issued in 2022, this law is considered a qualitative leap in the field of human rights. One of the main principles targeted by this law is empowering women and supporting their rights. It aims to address many societal problems that families and women have sometimes faced by regulating family relationships, rights, and duties for all family members. One of the significant rights guaranteed by the law for women is the right to choose a spouse without coercion. The law has established a set of procedures to ensure the consideration of this right in Saudi society. In this study, we aim to focus on the mechanisms of protecting this right in Saudi law and examine some important issues related to this right, such as male guardianship over women in marriage, determining the marriage age, compatibility between spouses, and the restrictions imposed on this right in Saudi law, comparing this issues with Islamic Sharia texts and international agreements.

Rural Banditry and Economic Crimes: Exploring the Perceptions of Male Pastoralists’ Lived Experience in Kwara State, North-Central Nigeria

Armed banditry and insurgency are among the principal insecurity challenges in present-day Nigeria. This study investigated the lived experience of male pastoralists on rural banditry and associated economic crimes in Kwara State, north-central Nigeria to fill identified gaps in the literature. A sample of 20 pastoralists’ hamlets was selected for the study. Data were collected through focus group discussions and key informant interviews. Qualitative content analysis was used to analyse the data. Data analysis showed that study participants were aware of the problem of rural banditry. Major banditry-related economic crimes reported by participants were robbery and burglary, livestock rustling, farmers-herders conflicts with attendant destruction of pastoralists’ assets, among others. Through facilitation by pairwise ranking exercise within focus group sessions, study participants identified livestock rustling as the most important banditry-related economic crime. Participants carried out social profiling of livestock rustlers. Results further suggested that the key factors influencing livestock rustling were economic deprivations and social dislocation in Nigerian society, criminal networks on livestock rustling and illegal trading on rustled livestock, and access to light weapons by the livestock rustlers, among others. Participants reported the immediate and long-term effects of livestock rustling on the crime victims and their communities. The study recommends the rollout of the government-planned National Animal Identification and Traceability System, the enactment of state law that would prohibit indiscriminate livestock transportation and, the creation of a local security system to complement the state-based policing system to reduce armed banditry and livestock rustling among the study population.

The criterion of classifying enterprises as family enterprises is highlighted — the unity of ownership and management, i.e. family control, and its indicators are developed. The models of family enterprises are indicated. The concept of “enterprise” in various branches of German law is studied. The conclusion is made about the non-identity of its content in connection with various goals of legal regulation. The peculiarities of property relations between spouses as participants in a family enterprise, as well as the transition of the enterprise in the order of universal succession in the event of the death of one of the participants, are revealed.
