Pleomorphic Adenoma of Hard Palate: A Case Report

Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign and most common tumor of both major and minor salivary glands. Majority of the minor salivary glands’ tumor are malignant. However, pleomorphic adenoma is the most common neoplasm of palate. Large pleomorphic adenoma in palate may cause pressure erosion of palate mimicking malignant pathology. Imaging with Computed tomography or Magnetic Resonance Imaging is important for surgical planning of the tumors in the uncommon location like palate. Here, we present a case of histopathologically proven pleomorphic adenoma of palate which was evaluated with CT scan prior to wide local excision.

Soft Palate Pleomorphic Adenoma of a Minor Salivary Gland: An Unusual Presentation

Tumors of salivary glands are less frequent in the head and neck region. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a benign tumor of major and accessory salivary glands. The soft palate is one of the most frequent sites among accessory salivary glands. This tumor can increase in size and cause oropharyngeal obstruction with a risk of asphyxia, endangering the patient's life. Treatment is based on complete tumor excision and it’s sometimes difficult. Histopathological examination confirms the diagnosis. In this study, we present a case of a large pleomorphic adenoma of the accessory salivary glands located in the soft palate, successfully treated with intraoral excision surgery after an initial tracheostomy.

A case report of organ-preserving surgical treatment for large pleomorphic adenoma of the larynx

Tumors of the salivary glands account for no more than 5% of all neoplasms of the head and neck. About 70% of all benign neoplasms of the salivary glands are pleomorphic. One of the rare localizations of pleomorphic adenoma is the larynx. Not more than 30 cases of laryngeal localization of pleomorphic adenoma are described in the literature currently. The article presents the result of organ-preserving surgical treatment of the patient with large pleomorphic adenoma of the larynx.

A large and invasive pleomorphic adenoma of nasal cavity: a rare case report and review of literatures

BackgroundPleomorphic adenomas are common tumors of major salivary glands. However, the localization in nasal cavity originating from the lateral wall is exceptional.This work is a presentation of a very rare case that presents the diagnostic challenge, considering the multitude of malignant and benign differential diagnosis. A discussion of surgical approach, and the possible complications associated with it.Case presentationThis is the case of an invasive nasal pleomorphic adenoma in a 48-year-old patient; the patient underwent complete excision through combined left lateral rhinotomy and functional endoscopic sinus surgery.ConclusionPleomorphic adenoma is a very rare benign tumor of the nasal cavity. Clinical diagnosis is generally difficult regarding the multitude of differential diagnosis. Confirmation is established upon histological aspect.This is a case of a very rare large pleomorphic adenoma of nasal cavity originating from the lateral wall, associated with differential diagnosis, and surgical approaches, as well as perceivable complications.The strength of this work is to point out the importance of complete surgical extirpation and thorough follow-up to prevent recurrences and malignant transformation.

Large Pleomorphic Adenoma of the Submandibular Gland Causing Internal Jugular Vein Compression: Case Report

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor of the major salivary glands. It is generally asymptomatic; however, it may adversely affect surrounding structures when it becomes enlarged. In the submandibular gland in particular, the cervical blood vessels may be compressed or displaced by the tumor, and surgery to remove the tumor is associated with a higher risk. The purpose of this report is to describe how an enlarged pleomorphic adenoma in the submandibular gland may compress or displace cervical blood vessels, demonstrating that 3-D computed tomography angiography could be valuable for preoperative evaluation. This article describes a rare case of a 46-year-old man who had an internal jugular vein compression as a result of leaving untreated a large pleomorphic adenoma in the submandibular gland. Considering the anatomical location, salivary gland tumors arising in the submandibular gland may adversely affect the surrounding structures such as the trachea or cervical blood vessels when they grow larger. Preoperative evaluation of the positional relationship between the tumor and the surrounding structures is essential. 3-D computed tomography angiography was valuable for preoperative evaluation of the positional relationship between the tumor and the surrounding blood vessels. By confirming the compressed and displaced blood vessels with 3-D computed tomography angiography, the skin incision line can be designed to allow for successful separation of the tumor. This report suggests that 3-D computed tomography angiography could ensure a safe surgical approach for removal of large benign submandibular gland tumors, including pleomorphic adenomas.

A few cases of pleomorphic adenoma of an ectopic lacrimal gland involving the deep orbit and lateral canthus have been previously reported. A 75-year-old female with a slow-growing, large pleomorphic adenoma arising from ectopic lacrimal gland tissue in the left upper eyelid is described in the present case report.

We treated a case of a fairly large pleomorphic adenoma of the cheek, and we describe this case and review the features of pleomorphic adenoma occurring at this site.

Giant Pleomorphic Adenoma of Soft Palate Leading to Obstruction of the Nasopharyngeal Port

Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common tumor of minor salivary glands, but it is rarely located in the soft palate. It is generally a small mass at the time of diagnosis, but if it is neglected it can rarely become larger, leading to obstructive symptoms such as snoring, hypernasal speech, and dysphagia. Surgical removal of the mass is curative. In this paper, we present a case of an unusually large pleomorphic adenoma of the soft palate leading to snoring and hypernasal speech. The defect that resulted from the excision of the mass is covered with a uvular flap.

Pleomorphic adenoma of an unusual size in the deep lobe of the parotid gland

Tumors of the salivary glands in children are not as common as in adults and they are mostly benign. The most common benign epithelial neoplasm seen in children is pleomorphic adenoma. As is usually the case in the adult population, it is usually found in the superficial lobe of the parotid gland. Its localization in the deep lobe is rare. Pleomorphic adenomas of the deep lobe present with a neck mass and when it is large, it may have an intraoral extension as well. It may also assume a dumb-bell shape as it enlarges and may be observed on CT or MRI scans as a prestyloid mass. The choice of treatment depends on the localization and the size of the tumor. The method can be transoral, cervical, transmandibular, transparotid, retromandibular fossa or a combination of these. A child with an unusually large pleomorphic adenoma of the deep lobe of the parotid gland is presented in this study. The deep lobe tumor was totally removed using a combination of cervical and transmandibular approaches.

The mucosa of the cheek is a relatively rare site of occurence for intraoral pleomorphic adenoma. A case of a large pleomorphic adenoma of the cheek is reported and a review of this lesion in the cheek is presented.

Two cases of large pleomorphic adenoma in the parapharyngeal space were presented.One case of a 69-year-old woman was considered a tumor originating from the deep lobe of parotid gland and advancing to the parapharyngeal space through a “stylomandibular tunnel”.Another case of a 74-year-old woman was considered a primary tumor in the parapharyngeal space, extending to the submandibular region.Each tumor was operatively removed, and no evidence of recurrence was observed to date.
