A Case Study of a Vertigo Patient Treated with Korean Medical Treatment

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Korean Medicine on a patient having vertigo disease. Methods: The patient was treated with Korean medicine, including Bongnyeongbanha-tang (茯苓半夏湯) and acupuncture, from October 3, 2015 to October 8, 2015. The Vertigo Score Scale and Numeric Rating Scale were assessed for evaluation. Results: After the treatment, the intensity of vertigo and nausea were decreased and the patient’s walking and visual difficulties were improved. Conclusions: Korean Medicine treatment can relieve vertigo symptoms. Keywords: Korean medicine, Bongnyeongbanha-tang, vertigo

A Case Report of Treatment of Dizziness and Gait Disturbance, Arising from Removal of a Vestibular Schwannoma, with Jaeumkunbi-tang-gagambang and Yookmijihwang-Insamyangyoung-tang-gagambang

Objective: To describe the effects of traditional Korean medicine on dizziness and gait disturbance arising after removal of a vestibular schwannoma. Methods: The patient was treated using Korean medical treatments, such as herbal medicines (Jaeumkunbi-tang-gagambang and Yookmijihwang-Insamyangyoung-tang-gagambang), acupuncture, and moxibustion. We measured the state and progress of this case with the Korean Vestibular Disorder Activities of Daily Living Scale (K-VADL), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and a visual analogue scale (VAS). Results: After treatment, the K-VADL score decreased from 167 to 74 and the VAS score decreased from 10 to 5.7, while the BBS score increased from 3 to 42. Conclusion: Jaeumkunbi-tang-gagambang (滋陰健脾湯) and Yookmijihwang-Insamyangyoung-tang-gagambang(六味地黃湯 合 人蔘養榮湯 åŠ æ¸›æ–¹) appear to be effective for controlling dizziness and gait disturbances occurring after removal of vestibular schwannomas. A Clinical Report of Polyneuropathy Treated with Korean Medical Treatment

Objective: To describe the effects of Korean medical treatment on a 51-year-old male patient with polyneuropathy and chief complaints of lower limb paralysis and dysarthria. Methods: The Toronto Clinical Neuropathy Scoring System (TCNSS) was used to evaluate the function of the lower limb and the symptoms of the patient were observed daily. We applied herbal medication and acupuncture daily, depending on the patient’s symptoms. Results: After the treatment, the TCNSS score was improved. A Case Report of Traditional Korean Medical Treatment for an Insomnia Patient Taking Zolpidem

The purpose of this study was to report a case of an insomnia patient treated with a traditional Korean medical treatment. The patient had suffered from insomnia for 4 months and had taken medicines such as Zolpidem. We diagnosed the patient as So-yang-in, according to the Sa-sang constitutional medicine. We prescribed medicine with herbs for So-yang-in and applied acupuncture for 9 days, and then we evaluated sleep time, quality, and awakening, based on the patient’s statement. The symptoms of insomnia were gradually improved during treatment. Therefore, traditional Korean medical treatment can help insomnia patients sleep well without Zolpidem. 북한이탈주민의 심신증상에 대한 M&L 심리치료와 한의치료 치험2례 보고

Objectives: This study was undertaken by the department of Korean neuropsychiatry, to evaluate the effects of M&L psychotherapy and Korean Medical Treatments on hospitalized North Korean defectors.Methods: We treated two patients with indigenous Korean medical therapies (acupuncture and herb-medicine) and M&L psychotherapy. Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Mini-mental state examination Korean Version (MMSE-K), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the patients.Results: Following observations were made after treatments. Case 1: the patient had significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Case 2: similar improvements were observed. Here, the patient had undergone Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Mini-mental state examination Korean Version (MMSE-K), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). In addition, noticeable improvement was observed in other accompanying symptoms.Conclusions: These results suggest that M&L Psychotherapy and Korean medical treatments might be effective for treating the psychiatric and physical symptoms of hospitalized North Korean Defectors.

다낭성난소증후군으로 인한 무월경, 희발월경 환자 20명의 증례 보고

Objectives: We evaluated the effect of Korean medical treatment in case of irregular menstruation (amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea) due to Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).Methods: 20 Amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea Patients with PCOS were treated with Korean medical treatment at least 3 months. We analyzed clinical data of 20 patients and checked effectiveness of treatment through the change of menstrual pattern.Results: After Korean medical treatment, Patients who complained menstrual irregularity due to PCOS were improved in menstrual condition. Among 14 amenorrhea patients, 12 patients (85.7%) started menstruation within 3 months. Among 6 Oligomenorrhea patients, 4 patients (66.7%) got better menstruation pattern than before.Conclusions: PCOS Patients who got Korean medical treatment showed better condition in menstruation pattern. Amenorrhea patients started menstruation without contraceptive pill and oligomenorrhea patients got better menstruation cycle.

한방치료로 호전된 임신성 아토피 발진환자의 치험례

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatment on a patient with atopic eruption of pregnancyMethods: Patient who diagnosed by atopic eruption of pregnancy was enrolled in this study. She received Korean medicine therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and external application. Sopungchungyoung-tangs and Seungmahwangryeon-tangs were prescribed according to the patient’s constitution which was pungyeol. The severity of symptom was evaluated by the severity SCORing for Atopic Dermatitis index (SCORAD index).Results: Subjective symptom such as Systemic pruritus, sleep loss, and Dermatitis lesions was reduced by Korean medicine therapies.Conclusions: The present study suggests that Korean medicine therapies have a effect on atopic eruption of pregnancy.

광역동요법을 병행한 두피 모낭염 한방치험 1례

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of combination therapy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with Korean medical treatments on scalp folliculitis, which has been difficult to treat by using antibiotic.Methods : A 32-year-old male patient with scalp folliculitis, received treatment with acupuncture, herbal medicine and PDT and so on. We used Visual Anologue Scale(VAS) to evaluate recovery from erythema, pruritus and pain. Also, the photos of patient were taken before and after treatments.Results : Visible symptoms to the naked eye and VAS scale effectively decreased after Korean medicine treatments for two months.Conclusions : It is expected that Korean medical treatments and PDT were thouht to be effective for scalp folliculitis.

한의복합치료 후 호전된 경부척수손상 환자의 사지마비 및 신경인성 방광: 증례보고

A 57-year-old male patient was diagnosed as Incomplete cervical spinal cord injury and Neurogenic bladder after falling accident and suffered from tetraplegia and urinary retention. The patient was hospitalized and treated with Complex Korean Medical treatment such as acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, bee venom pharmacopuncture and herbal medication for 13 weeks. International Standard for Neurological Classification of Spinal Cord Injury (ISNCSCI) was adopted to evaluate the functional recovery and Korean version of Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI) was adopted to evaluate the recovery of activities of daily living (ADL). After treatment, Total scores of ISNCSCI and K-MBI were improved. Also patient's micturition reflex was recovered and symptoms of neurogenic bladder were improved. This result shows that Korean Medical treatment may be an effective treatment option for spinal cord injury and neurogenic bladder patients. Further clinical studies are needed to clarify the effect of Korean Medical treatment on spinal cord injury.

한방치료와 심리치료를 통한 강박장애 환자 치험례

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report that a patient with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) significantly responds to Korean medical treatments and psychotherapy.Methods We treated the patient with Korean medical treatments (acupuncture and herbal medication) and Melonis Calyx Vomiting Therapy. We also used psychotherapy including Li-Gyeung-Byun-Qi therapy. The patient was diagnosed by DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for OCD. We used Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory-Revised-Korean (OCI-R-K), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Beck’s Depression Inventory (BDI), and Beck’s Anxiety Inventory (BAI) to evaluate the patient.Results OCI-R-K score was decreased from 39 points to 9 points. BDI score was decreased from 14 points to 6 points. BAI score was decreased from 25 points to 13 points.Conclusions This study suggests that Korean medical treatment is an effective way to treat patients who suffer from OCD.
