This paper discusses the design of a knowledge management system framework to improve effectiveness and efficiency in managing new student registrations, the purpose of this study is to form an information system framework for new students when carrying out the registration process until the entrance screening test process ends in the official report passed whether or not the student. The method used uses the triad knowledge management approach. The results obtained are the KMS Framework which can be used as a reference in the management of PPDB in an organization affiliated with the education sector

Counting losses to cut losses: quantifying legume postharvest losses to help achieve food and nutrition security

Projections suggest that by 2050 global food production will need to have increased by 70% to meet food demands associated with the world’s population growth. Such forecasts, alongside growing awareness of the socio-ecological costs of food loss, and political ramifications of food crises have seen postharvest loss (PHL) reduction reappearing as a development priority. Particularly so in sub-Saharan Africa, a region deemed highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, where 307 million people are already affected by severe food insecurity, and the population is projected to double by 2050. Targets for reduced PHL are emphasised in the African Union’s Malabo Declaration and Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. However, crop postharvest systems are complex and losses occur in various ways at different activity stages and due to a host of diverse reasons. To better target and prioritise loss reduction investments and policies we need to understand how much food is being lost postharvest, where, and why. The African Postharvest Losses Information Systems (APHLIS), brought a rigorous knowledge management approach to cereal PHLs. We are now expanding this to include key legume and other crops and estimates of the nutritional and financial values of these losses. The scientific literature was screened to build profiles of the PHLs occurring along the value chains, and combined with contextual information, to provide science-based estimates of PHLs where direct measurements are not available. We discuss these legume PHL profiles and the related opportunities and knowledge gaps.

Preparing healthcare delivery organizations for managing computable knowledge.

IntroductionThe growth of data science has led to an explosion in new knowledge alongside various approaches to representing and sharing biomedical knowledge in computable form. These changes have not been matched by an understanding of what healthcare delivery organizations need to do to adapt and continuously deploy computable knowledge. It is therefore important to begin to conceptualize such changes in order to facilitate routine and systematic application of knowledge that improves the health of individuals and populations.MethodsAn AHRQ‐funded conference convened a group of experts from a range of fields to analyze the current state of knowledge management in healthcare delivery organizations and describe how it needs to evolve to enable computable knowledge management. Presentations and discussions were recorded and analyzed by the author team to identify foundational concepts and new domains of healthcare delivery organization knowledge management capabilities.ResultsThree foundational concepts include 1) the current state of knowledge management in healthcare delivery organizations relies on an outdated biomedical library model, and only a small number of organizations have developed enterprise‐scale knowledge management approaches that “push” knowledge in computable form to frontline decisions, 2) the concept of Learning Health Systems creates an imperative for scalable computable knowledge management approaches, and 3) the ability to represent data science discoveries in computable form that is FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) is fundamental to spread knowledge at scale. For healthcare delivery organizations to engage with computable knowledge management at scale, they will need new organizational capabilities across three domains: policies and processes, technology, and people. Examples of specific capabilities were developed.ConclusionsHealthcare delivery organizations need to substantially scale up and retool their knowledge management approaches in order to benefit from computable biomedical knowledge.

Logistics knowledge creation in joint industry-academia research projects: the importance of dialogue and co-construction

ABSTRACTKnowledge creation in joint industry-academia research projects should be part of a knowledge strategy and a knowledge management (KM) approach in logistics and supply chain management (SCM). Based on an in-depth retrospective analysis of eight research projects carried out by researchers in collaboration with industry on strategic logistics and SCM topics, combining single and cross-case analysis, this article discusses logistics knowledge creation and points out the importance of industry-academia interactions, especially dialogue and co-construction, at each stage of a research project to create valuable logistics knowledge, both from a managerial and an academic point of view. It puts forward guidelines to improve the management of such projects and the quality of their outputs, especially logistics knowledge creation. Finally, it proposes a framework and opens avenues for further research with a view to deepening the dialogue and enriching the co-construction between industry and academia in strategic logistics and SCM research projects.

The advent of customer experiential knowledge management approach (CEKM): The integration of offline & online experiential knowledge

This paper builds a conceptual reflection leading to the proposition of the customer experiential knowledge management (CEKM) approach. The challenge, here, is how to connect the customer knowledge management to the customer lived service experience. Hence, a conceptual analysis ascertains that the customer knowledge, as retrieved from his lived experience, plays a key role in the implementation of an experiential innovation.In this regard, the customer experiential knowledge is drawn from the lived service experience in situ, both online and offline.The customer experiential knowledge is redefined by integrating the experience lived and shared online. Then, a strategic model of CEKM, that integrates the customer experience processed through the knowledge management, is proposed.Research gaps are highlighted through a critical review of the literature in order to defend CEKM approach and give way to the proposition of practical implications in terms of competencies and research questions.

Managing tourism knowledge: a review

PurposeThis paper aims to provide a contemporary review of the field of tourism and knowledge management.Design/methodology/approachThe review draws upon an extensive range of generic knowledge management literature as well as the rather less developed literature on tourism and knowledge management.FindingsThe review finds that tourism has been slow to adopt a knowledge management approach, partly due to the context of the tourism sector. However, by taking a “network gaze”, this paper shows that the benefits of knowledge management for tourism are clear and that policy for knowledge management can be of benefit to tourism.Originality/valueThis paper provides a contemporary review of the knowledge management literature and situates it within the tourism context.

Key barriers to gout care: a systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies.

Gout care remains highly suboptimal, contributing to an increased global disease burden. To understand barriers to gout care, our aim was to provide a systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies worldwide reporting provider and patient perspectives and experiences with management. We conducted a mapped search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and Social Sciences Citation Index databases and selected qualitative studies of provider and patient perspectives on gout management. We used thematic synthesis to combine the included studies and identify key themes across studies. We included 20 studies that reported the experiences and perspectives of 480 gout patients and 120 providers spanning five different countries across three continents. We identified three predominant provider themes: knowledge gaps and management approaches; perceptions and beliefs about gout patients; and system barriers to optimal gout care (e.g. time constraints and a lack of incentives). We also identified four predominant themes among gout patients: limited gout knowledge; interactions with health-care providers; attitudes towards and experiences with taking medication; and practical barriers to long-term medication use. Our systematic review of worldwide literature consistently identified gaps in gout knowledge among providers, which is likely to contribute to patients' lack of appropriate education about the fundamental causes of and essential treatment approaches for gout. Furthermore, system barriers among providers and day-to-day challenges of taking long-term medications among patients are considerable. These factors provide key targets to improve the widespread suboptimal gout care.

Determinants of knowledge-sharing networks in primary care.

Around the world, health reforms are increasingly fostering collaboration and integration among primary care physicians with the aim of facilitating knowledge sharing and evidence-informed decision-making. Although extant research on this topic is abundant, the evidence and results regarding social and organizational factors affecting the formation of knowledge-sharing networks in this setting are inconclusive. The aim of this article is to explore multiple theoretical mechanisms explaining the formation of knowledge-sharing networks among primary care physicians across relevant clinical areas. The data are collected from two local health authorities in the Italian National Health Service that are responsible for delivering primary care in two Italian regions. Exponential random graph models are used to test the hypotheses. Our findings indicate that knowledge-sharing networks are highly correlated across clinical areas. In addition, knowledge-sharing networks are highly reciprocal and clustered. We also observe that formal models adopted to foster collaboration have remarkably different effects on the formation of knowledge networks, depending upon the diverse knowledge management approaches adopted in the surveyed local health authorities. Primary care organizations need to develop and implement knowledge management practices in order to help physicians in identifying knowledge domain experts as well as to support connections through formal groupings and incentives.

An integrated approach for knowledge management in the context of product innovation

Companies use social media to communicate customers has been increasing recently. By analyzing the content generated by users online, companies obtain the information about market and use in product management and innovation, improving the competitiveness of enterprises. As the emerging of growing user-generated content (UGC), how to achieve effective information extraction and transform into product knowledge has posed a challenge to the enterprise. In the context of smart phone product innovation, with data fetched from websites and provided by the enterprise, by using natural language processing and semantic Web tools, this paper proposes an integrated method of innovation knowledge management based on UGC, which provide a systematic solution for the interactive innovation knowledge management.

Impact of Knowledge Management on Employee Work Performance: Evidence from Saudi Arabia

Knowledge Management (KM) has become critical in today’s highly competitive, uncertain, and rapidly changing business environment. The objective of this study is to measure the effects of knowledge management processes (knowledge acquisition, knowledge sharing, knowledge creation and knowledge retention) and knowledge management approaches (social networks, codification and personalization) on job satisfaction and examines how they increase employees’ work performance. A theoretical model based on KM processes and approaches is proposed. It is empirically tested with structural equation modeling (SEM) and partial least squares (PLS) of survey data collected from employees of the King Fahd National Library in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The analysis showed that there is a significant and positive impact of KM processes and approaches on job satisfaction and work performance. Knowledge sharing, knowledge retention, codification and personalization approaches have significant impacts on job satisfaction, and knowledge acquisition, knowledge creation and a social network approach have no significant impacts on job satisfaction. Managers are advised to implement KM activities in their organizations to improve knowledge worker performance and the welfare of employees at work. This is the first study that theoretically examines the effect of knowledge management processes and knowledge management approaches on ‘soft’ human issues such as the job satisfaction and work performance of individual employees in an academic library.

A Knowledge Management Approach to Identify Victims of Human Sex Trafficking

Social media and the interactive Web have enabled human traffickers to lure victims and then sell them faster and in greater safety than ever before. However, these same tools have also enabled investigators in their search for victims and criminals. We used system development action research methodology to create and apply a prototype designed to identify victims of human sex trafficking by analyzing online ads. The prototype used a knowledge management approach of generating actionable intelligence by applying a set of strong filters based on an ontology to identify potential victims. We used the prototype to analyze a data set generated from online ads. We used the results of this process to generate a revised prototype that included the use of machine learning and text mining enhancements. We used the revised prototype to identify potential victims in a second data set. The results of applying the prototypes suggest a viable approach to identifying victims of human sex trafficking in online ads.

Framework Proposal for Management of Knowledge and Technology Transfer in Brazilian Academic Internships

This article has the purpose of developing a framework for management of knowledge and technology transfer in Brazilian academic internships, with a Knowledge Management approach. The methodological procedures employed are classified as qualitative, bibliographical, documentary, and a survey, having academic internships in Brazil as the object of study. The framework proposed is an advantage in internship management, systematizing information, knowledge, and technology, in addition to increasing the potential of internship activities. The framework for management of knowledge and technology transfer in Brazilian academic internships offers its users not only a service of knowledge management, but also a Knowledge Management System with resources of Communication and Information Technology for the construction of a learning platform, in which coordinators, professors, supervisors, and student-interns would be able to manage the internship, its activities, and the online learning environment. In other words, it is an environment designed for the development of academic knowledge in professional capacities.

Knowledge Management – The Foundation for a Successful Business Process Management

Abstract In today's dynamic business environment, organizations need up-to-date knowledge to execute their business in the best way. Through the ongoing digitalization and linked communities, companies and businesses, changing parameters as well as varying business framework conditions must be analyzed fast as possible to optimize the processes and gain the best direction for the own company. Therefore, organization use Business Process Management (BPM) to model and manage the existing processes. To perform BPM and optimize processes, data and information there have to be developed a knowledge inventory regarding all processes in order to model the organizational processes together with the required resources. In the following paper, this necessary knowledge process will be analyzed as foundation to perform BPM regarding the known BPM Trends. In addition, the relevance of digitalization will be matched to the Knowledge Management and BPM approach to underline the importance of the correct data and information as BPM infrastructure. Therefore, the mandatory terms will be defined and described theoretically. This literature research will be the starting basis for the approach and following scientific research. To evaluate the KM-BPM Model a survey with different companies has been developed. The research results will contributed to a combined Knowledge and BPM approach for the application in the business in times of digitalization.

A Knowledge Management Approach for Ergonomics Implementation within Organizations

Abstract The current economic and social environment suffered major changes in the last years, mainly driven by technological and cultural innovations and trends. One of the most interesting changes is the development of knowledge management (KM) and its increasing diffusions in all economic sectors. There is no activity that can be performed without some type of knowledge transfer, irrespective of whether it is tacit or explicit. At the same time, every organization must implement health and safety objectives in order to achieve business effectiveness and efficiency. Through ergonomics working conditions and occupational health and safety (OHS) objectives can be achieved more efficient. Considering that ergonomics is an interdisciplinary science, KM appears as extremely necessary for superior knowledge transfer among expert groups in the organization. The paper aims to demonstrate the usefulness of KM science in the ergonomics approach by highlighting key focus areas to support efficient implementation within organizations. By analyzing the consulting services offer by six Unites States consulting companies in the filed of ergonomics, we shall underlined the trends and challenges of the KM implications in ergonomics approaches.

Implicit and Explicit Knowledge Mining of Crowdsourced Communities: Architectural and Technology Verdicts

The use of social media especially community Q&A Sites by software development community has been increased significantly in past few years. The ever mounting data on these Q&A Sites has open up new horizons for research in multiple dimensions. Stackoverflow is repository of large amount of data related to software engineering. Software architecture and technology selection verdicts in SE have enormous and ultimate influence on overall properties and performance of software system, and pose risks to change if once implemented. Most of the risks in Software Engineering projects are directly or indirectly coupled with Architectural and Technology decisions (ATD). Advance Architectural knowledge availability and its utilization are crucial for decision making. Existing architecture and technology knowledge management approaches using software repositories give a rich insight to support architects by offering a wide spectrum of architecture and technology verdicts. However, they are mostly insourced and still depend on manual generation and maintenance of the architectural knowledge. This paper compares various software development approaches and suggests crowdsourcing as knowledge ripped approach and brings into use the most popular online software development community/Crowdsourced (StackOverflow) as a rich source of knowledge for technology decisions to support architecture knowledge management with a more reliable method of data mining for knowledge capturing. This is an exploratory study that follows a qualitative and qualitative e-content analysis approach. Our proposed framework finds relationships among technology and architecture related posts in this community to identify architecture-relevant and technology-related knowledge through explicit and implicit knowledge mining, and performs classification and clustering for the purpose of knowledge structuring for future work.

Preoperative Education System to Assist Patients Undergoing TAVI Surgery: A Digital Health Solution

Personalized patient education is a critical factor in the healthcare service delivery as it contributes to better management of diseases and ultimately enhanced clinical outcomes. Trans-Catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) is a standard cardiac procedure for patients with severe aortic stenosis. TAVI is a minimally invasive procedure, however; this procedure is still associated with considerable risks based on the condition of the patient before performing TAVI. To obtain an informed consent, it is important to appropriately inform patients and their families about the risks and considerations associated with TAVI. Our research objective is to leverage digital health technologies to develop a personalized preoperative patient education system for TAVI patients. An iterative user-Centered approach was used to develop “TAVI System”, and its knowledge content is based on digitized evidence and clinical expertise. We used a knowledge management approach to model, computerize, and integrate TAVI patient assessment to generate personalized educational messages.

Rethinking Public Organizations as Knowledge-Oriented and Technology-Driven Organizations

Public organizations should rediscover the role of knowledge as a source for designing and implementing internal processes and adopt a knowledge management approach by using and managing technology as means and enabler for building a citizen-centered public management, sustaining democratic and civic values by promoting openness and fostering participation in order to encourage collaboration with citizens for co-producing public services and co-creating public value. Information and communication technologies are driving public organizations as responsive institutions in front of the citizens to proceed towards sustainability as a principle of governance for promoting the public interest and sustaining active citizenship, enhancing both collaboration and interaction between citizens and public administration. Introducing and actively implementing technology in government helps rethink public organizations as knowledge oriented and information based organizations seeking sustainability by involving citizens, businesses and other stakeholders for public value creation, enabling access to information, sustaining openness, transparency and accountability in order to engage citizens and encourage them to be included and actively participate in democratic public life, involving citizens to assume the responsibility for co-production of public services and fostering citizen participation in public policy choices. Technology opens up new opportunities for public organizations seeking sustainability by rediscovering knowledge as source and strategic asset following a knowledge management approach for designing and implementing democratic and administrative processes, redesigning the relationship with citizens, building public trust, encouraging citizen participation and sustaining co-production of public services.

The Conceptual Review of Interaction between Corporate Wisdom and Corporate Entrepreneurship

Wisdom is an important point of view in the literature as the highest desired attainment of knowledge management and a new goal. Wisdom is a mysterious concept existing at the top of the hierarchy of data, information, and knowledge that occurs by the evolving of knowledge with experience and thought. This concept constitutes institutional wisdom when dealt with on an institutional basis. Today's competition conditions move wisdom understanding on the agenda due to the insufficiency of traditional knowledge management approach towards sustainable targets and keeping the business vulnerable to rapidly changing conditions. Entrepreneurship is one of the most popular phenomena influenced by the developments in knowledge management. Entrepreneurship necessitates the creation of value by seeing opportunities, reaching different information before others, and using it differently from others, thereby becoming a member of the information society. Entrepreneurship processes aiming to create value through transformation and innovation studies in an existing organization are called corporate Corporate entrepreneurship is a capability that enables businesses to gain competitive advantage through conscious efforts which actuate internal and external initiatives against changing conditions and uncertainties. It is thought that the factors of wisdom understanding are interacting with elements of entrepreneurship. In this study, a conceptual review is carried out in order to reveal the mentioned interaction, to take all dimensions of the elements which the concepts are based on.

A Knowledge-Modeling Approach to Integrate Multiple Clinical Practice Guidelines to Provide Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Support for Managing Comorbid Conditions.

Clinical management of comorbidities is a challenge, especially in a clinical decision support setting, as it requires the safe and efficient reconciliation of multiple disease-specific clinical procedures to formulate a comorbid therapeutic plan that is both effective and safe for the patient. In this paper we pursue the integration of multiple disease-specific Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) in order to manage co-morbidities within a computerized Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS). We present a CPG integration framework-termed as COMET (Comorbidity Ontological Modeling & ExecuTion) that manifests a knowledge management approach to model, computerize and integrate multiple CPG to yield a comorbid CPG knowledge model that upon execution can provide evidence-based recommendations for handling comorbid patients. COMET exploits semantic web technologies to achieve (a) CPG knowledge synthesis to translate a paper-based CPG to disease-specific clinical pathways (CP) that include specialized co-morbidity management procedures based on input from domain experts; (b) CPG knowledge modeling to computerize the disease-specific CP using a Comorbidity CPG ontology; (c) CPG knowledge integration by aligning multiple ontologically-modeled CP to develop a unified comorbid CPG knowledge model; and (e) CPG knowledge execution using reasoning engines to derive CPG-mediated recommendations for managing patients with comorbidities. We present a web-accessible COMET CDSS that provides family physicians with CPG-mediated comorbidity decision support to manage Atrial Fibrillation and Chronic Heart Failure. We present our qualitative and quantitative analysis of the knowledge content and usability of COMET CDSS.

An ontology for numerical design of experiments processes

Numerical Designs of Experiments (NDoE) are used in a product development process to optimize the product. A NDoE may combine a costly numerical model and numerous experiments. The NDoE process consequently becomes very expensive. However, some methods and algorithms were developed to shorten the NDoE process, as sensitivity analysis, surrogate modelling and adaptive DoE. Because of their complexity, advanced expert knowledge or a long preparation step is required to optimally choose and configure all of these methods, in order to run the most efficient NDoE process.To answer this issue, a knowledge management approach is proposed in this paper. It capitalizes and reuses knowledge about NDoE process. This solution is proposed because of the lack in term of models and standardized processes for this specific NDoE application. An ontology was developed to manage, share and reuse knowledge and enable queries for information retrieval in a database. The database lists every NDoE processes executed. Then, the knowledge is analysed by a decision-support system to help designers to choose the best configuration.
