Magnetically Responsive Gallium-Based Liquid Metal: Preparation, Property and Application.

Magnetically responsive soft smart materials have garnered significant academic attention due to their flexibility, remote controllability, and reconfigurability. However, traditional soft materials used in the construction of these magnetically responsive systems typically exhibit low density and poor thermal and electrical conductivities. These limitations result in suboptimal performance in applications such as medical radiography, high-performance electronic devices, and thermal management. To address these challenges, magnetically responsive gallium-based liquid metals have emerged as promising alternatives. In this review, we summarize the methodologies for achieving magnetically responsive liquid metals, including the integration of magnetic agents into the liquid metal matrix and the utilization of induced Lorentz forces. We then provide a comprehensive discussion of the key physicochemical properties of these materials and the factors influencing them. Additionally, we explore the advanced and potential applications of magnetically responsive liquid metals. Finally, we discuss the current challenges in this field and present an outlook on future developments and research directions.

Regioselective Pyridine to Benzene Edit Inspired by Water-Displacement.

Late-stage derivatization of drug-like functional groups can accelerate drug discovery efforts by swiftly exchanging hydrogen-bond donors with acceptors, or by modulating key physicochemical properties like logP, solubility, or polar surface area. A proven derivatization strategy to improve ligand potency is to extend the ligand to displace water molecules that are mediating the interactions with a receptor. Inspired by this application, we developed a method to regioselectively transmute the nitrogen atom from pyridine into carbon bearing an ester, a flexible functional group handle. We applied this method to a variety of substituted pyridines, as well as late-stage transformation of FDA-approved drugs.

Hot-Melt Extrusion-Based Dexamethasone-PLGA Implants: Physicochemical, Physicomechanical, and Surface Morphological Properties and In Vitro Release Corrected for Drug Degradation.

Developing bioequivalent (BE) generic products of complex dosage forms like intravitreal implants (IVIs) of corticosteroids such as dexamethasone prepared using hot-melt extrusion (HME), based on biodegradable poly (lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) polymers, can be challenging. A better understanding of the relationship between the physicochemical and physicomechanical properties of IVIs and their effect on drug release and ocular bioavailability is crucial to develop novel BE approaches. It is possible that the key physicochemical and physicomechanical properties of IVIs such as drug properties, implant surface roughness, mechanical strength and toughness, and implant erosion could vary for different compositions, resulting in changes in drug release. Therefore, this study investigated the hypothesis that biodegradable ophthalmic dexamethasone-loaded implants with 20% drug and 80% PLGA polymer(s) prepared using single-pass hot-melt extrusion (HME) differ in physicochemical and/or physicomechanical properties and drug release depending on their PLGA polymer composition. Acid end-capped PLGA was mixed with an ester end-capped PLGA to make three formulations: HME-1, HME-2, and HME-3, containing 100%, 80%, and 60% w/w of the acid end-capped PLGA. Further, this study compared the drug release between independent batches of each composition. In vitro release tests (IVRTs) indicated that HME-1 implants can be readily distinguished by their release profiles from HME-2 and HME-3, with the release being similar for HME-2 and HME-3. In the early stages, drug release generally correlated well with polymer composition and implant properties, with the release increasing with PLGA acid content (for day-1 release, R2 = 0.80) and/or elevated surface roughness (for day-1 and day-14 release, R2 ≥ 0.82). Further, implant mechanical strength and toughness correlated inversely with PLGA acid content and day-1 drug release. Drug release from independent batches was similar for each composition. The findings of this project could be helpful for developing generic PLGA polymer-based ocular implant products.

Identification of key physicochemical properties and volatile flavor compounds for the sensory formation of roasted tilapia

Tilapia is suitable for industrial roasting production because of its good flavor and processing adaptability. In this study, the key physicochemical properties and volatile compounds for sensory formation of roasted tilapia were identified after roasting condition optimization. The highest sensory score was obtained at 215 °C, 45 min, and 4% oil. During roasting, the a*, b*, hardness, chewiness, and oxidation of proteins and lipids significantly increased, the moisture content decreased, and the myofibrillar protein aggregation was observed by scanning electron microscope. After identification and quantification by headspace-gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry, 10 compounds with odor active value ≥1 were selected as characteristic flavor compounds. The correlation network indicated that the sensory formation mainly resulted from Maillard reaction, myofibrillar protein aggregation, and improvement of pleasant volatile flavor compounds induced by oxidation of proteins and lipids and water loss. This study provides an important theoretical basis and technical support for roasted tilapia production.

Effects of banqueting on water infiltration and physico-chemical properties of soil in semi-arid lands

Banqueting is a simple and cheap soil conservation practice in natural rangelands under dry climates. Little research exists about its impacts compared to other land uses, where agriculture and land abandonment may be important reasons for degradation. This study has evaluated water infiltration and key physico-chemical properties of soil in natural rangelands with banquets in West Azerbaijan (North-Western Iran) compared to: (i) undisturbed sites (assumed as reference condition) and (ii) cultivated or abandoned dry farmlands. Under these soil conditions, the texture, bulk density, porosity, water content, pH, electrical conductivity, organic carbon and carbonate contents of soil (using common physical-chemical methods) as well as the hydraulic conductivity (using a single-cylinder infiltrometer) were measured in the topsoil (0–20 cm). This data was further processed by applying the Principal Component Analysis and the Agglomerative Hierarchical Cluster Analysis. In areas with banquets, soil hydraulic conductivity was higher by 84% compared to dry farmlands (abandoned or not), where water infiltration was noticeably reduced (−44%) compared to the reference soil condition. Moreover, a noticeable increase in organic carbon content (+80%) and a lower salinity (−36%) of soil compared to cultivated areas was measured. These effects are important to enhance soil fertility on one side, and resistance to erosion on the other side. Therefore, in the experimental areas, banqueting may counteract the degradation of soil due to the agricultural activity as well as its abandonment, and restore the properties of the undisturbed soils that are typical of natural rangelands. The results of this study may be of help for landscape managers and agronomists for the pressing needs for soil conservation and productivity in semi-arid areas that are prone to degradation and abandonment.

Microsponges: Development, Characterization, and Key Physicochemical Properties.

Microsponges are promising drug delivery carriers with versatile characteristics and controlled release properties for the delivery of a wide range of drugs. The microsponges will provide an optimized therapeutic effect, when delivered at the site of action without rupturing, then releasing the cargo at the predetermined time and area. The ability of the microsponges to effectively deliver the drug in a controlled manner depends on the material composition. This comprehensive review entails knowledge on the design parameters of an optimized microsponge drug delivery system and the controlled release properties of microsponges that reduces the side effects of drugs. Furthermore, the review delves into the fabrication techniques of microsponges, the mechanism of drug release from the microsponges, and the regulatory requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the successful marketing of microsponge formulation. The review also examines the patented formulations of microsponges. The prospects of these sophisticated drug delivery systems for improved clinical outcomes are highlighted.

Detection of honey adulteration by characterization of the physico-chemical properties of honey adulterated with the addition of glucose–fructose and maltose corn syrups

This study aimed to experimentally investigate the effect of sugar syrup additions on quality measurements of honey and to detect adulteration. For that purpose, two different pure blossom honey samples were adulterated by directly mixing 0%, 5%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% of commercially available glucose–fructose corn syrup and maltose corn syrup. In this regard, key physico-chemical properties like moisture, pH, free acidity, proline, diastase number, color (L, a, b and Delta-E), electrical conductivity, HMF, sugar profile (glucose, fructose, sucrose and maltose), and C4 sugar analysis were tested. The results of the individual analysis of moisture, pH, free acidity, proline, diastase number, color, electrical conductivity, and HMF failed to detect sugar syrup adulteration. However, when principal component analysis (PCA) was utilized to analyze the data gathered from these tests, adulterations at all-syrup ratios (5–50%) were successfully detected.Graphical

Nutrients and Ecological Stoichiometry Characteristics of Typical Wetland Soils in the Lower Yellow River

Carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the soil are the necessary nutrient elements for plant growth, and their contents and ecological stoichiometry can reflect the status of soil quality and nutrient limitation. The Huayuankou Yellow River Floating Bridge Wetland in the lower Yellow River was selected as the research object. The methods of ANOVA, redundancy analysis, and linear regression fitting were used to study the contents of organic carbon (SOC), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), alkaline nitrogen (AN), available phosphorus (AP), available potassium (AK), and their ecological stoichiometric ratios as well as the limiting elements of soil nutrients, and the key physicochemical properties that affect soil nutrients and their ecological stoichiometry in the wetland were revealed. The results showed that the mean values of ω(SOC), ω(TN), ω(TP), ω(TK), ω(AN), ω(AP), and ω(AK) in wetland soil were 5.46 g·kg-1, 0.60 g·kg-1, 0.28 g·kg-1, 17.06 g·kg-1, 13.75 mg·kg-1, 6.54 mg·kg-1, and 158.56 mg·kg-1, respectively, which showed an increasing trend from the river bank to the shoaly land and were generally higher at the high vegetation coverage areas than at the low vegetation coverage areas. There were significant correlations among SOC, TN, TP, and TK. Soil C/P, C/K, N/P, and N/K showed a consistent trend with soil nutrients, whereas C/N showed the opposite. The coefficients of variation of SOC, TN, AN, N/P, and N/K in the soil exceeded 50.00%, with significant spatial differences. The average value of C/N in wetland soil was 11.882, which was close to the average level of soils in China, whereas the average values of C/P and N/P were 49.119 and 4.516, respectively, both of which were lower than the average level of soils in China, and the N/P of soil was far less than 14, which indicated that N was limited in the soil. The proportion of clay and electrical conductivity combined to explain 61.4% and 43.9% of the variation in the soil nutrients and their ecological stoichiometry, respectively, which were the dominant soil physicochemical properties affecting the soil nutrients and their ecological stoichiometry of Huayuankou Yellow River Floating Bridge Wetland. The research results are helpful to improve our knowledge of nutrients and their influencing factors in the wetland soil of the lower Yellow River and provide an important scientific basis for the ecological restoration and management of the wetland in the lower Yellow River.

Rapid Lignin Thermal Property Prediction through Attenuated Total Reflectance-Infrared Spectroscopy and Chemometrics.

To expedite the valorisation of lignin as a sustainable component in materials applications, rapid and generally available analytical methods are essential to overcome the bottleneck of lignin characterisation. Where features of a lignin's chemical structure have previously been found to be predicted by Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression models built on Infrared (IR) data, we now show for the first time that this approach can be extended to prediction of the glass transition temperature (Tg), a key physicochemical property. This methodology is shown to be convenient and more robust for prediction of Tg than prediction through empirically derived relationships (e. g., Flory-Fox). The chemometric analysis provided root mean squared errors of prediction (RMSEP) as low as 10.0 °C for a botanically, and a process-diverse set of lignins, and 6.2 °C for kraft-only samples. The PLS models could separately predict both the Tg as well as the degree of allylation (%allyl) for allylated lignin fractions, which were all derived from a single lignin source. The models performed exceptionally well, delivering RMSEP of 6.1 °C, and 5.4 %, respectively, despite the conflicting influences of increasing molecular weight and %allyl on Tg. Finally, the method provided accurate determinations of %allyl with RMSEP of 5.2 %.

Effect of calcination temperature on Co/sepiolite catalyst for hydrogen production by ethanol steam reforming: Co speciation from phyllosilicate to spinel

Hydrogen production via ethanol steam reforming (ESR) was conducted over amorphous sepiolite (SEP) supported Co based catalysts, deeming as a green and sustainable strategy for renewable energy. However, the subtle regulation to the ESR reactivity of Co/SEP catalysts still remains a challenge. Given the structure sensitive property of ESR, calcination temperature, as a vital regulation parameter, was used to control the key physicochemical properties of catalysts. By various characterization techniques, the results revealed that a calcination temperature mediated metal-support interaction was manifested in the form of Co speciation evolution. With increasing calcination temperature, the occurrence states of Co species change from Co oxides to Co-phyllosilicate then to Co-Al spinel. The ESR experiments indicated that Co/SEP-600 catalyst possessed a suboptimal activity via a dehydrogenation route and a 50 h stability due to a compromising among Co-phyllosilicate dominated MSI, texture, Co0 nanoparticle size and acid-base property. The further improvement of calcination temperature only brought about a poor stability of Co/SEP-700 with a phase transformation or a low activity of Co/SEP-800 with an irreducible Co-Al spinel. Hence, the interaction type of Co with SEP framework Si/Al atoms determined the ESR reactivity of the catalysts, which was modulated by the calcination temperature. Additionally, abundant graphitic coke deposition on the agglomerated Co0 grains was attributed the weak MSI, such as Co/SEP-400, while a slight coke deposition appeared at Co/SEP-800 with an irreducible Co-Al spinel phase.

Effect of ion pair strategy on transdermal delivery of guanfacine: Which factor dominates drug permeation?

Ion pair is an effective chemical approach to promoting drug transdermal permeation, and the traditional interpretation for its enhanced permeation effect is mainly attributed to counterions altering the physicochemical properties of the drug (lipophilicity, melting point, etc.). In this work, guanfacine (GFC), a non-stimulant for anti-attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), was used as a model drug, and several organic or inorganic acids were designed thereby successfully constructing ion pairs. The transdermal permeation ability of ion pairs through isolated porcine skin was observed and ranked as follows: guanfacine caprylate (GFC-CA) > GFC > guanfacine laurate (GFC-LA) > guanfacine fumarate (GFC-FA) > guanfacine hydrochloride (GFC-HA) > guanfacine palmitate (GFC-PA). The effect of key physicochemical properties (octanol–water partition coefficient, molecular volume, melting point) on the transdermal permeation rate of the model drug was analyzed in detail. In addition, GFC-CA was observed to alter the lipid structure of the skin, suggesting the traditional explanation of the action of ion pair may be inadequate and underrated, and ion pair may also enhance permeation by disrupting skin structure. The intriguing phenomenon is expected to provide a novel approach to achieving precise transdermal drug delivery.

Soil properties and fungal community jointly explain N2O emissions following N and P enrichment in an alpine meadow

Nutrient enrichment, such as nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), typically affects nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions in terrestrial ecosystems, predominantly via microbial nitrification and denitrification processes in the soil. However, the specific impact of soil property and microbial community alterations under N and P enrichment on grassland N2O emissions remains unclear. To address this, a field experiment was conducted in an alpine meadow of the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. This study aimed to unravel the mechanisms underlying N and P enrichment effects on N2O emissions by monitoring N2O fluxes, along with analyzing associated microbial communities and soil physicochemical properties. We observed that N enrichment individually or in combination with P enrichment, escalated N2O emissions. P enrichment dampened the stimulatory effect of N enrichment on N2O emissions, indicative of an antagonistic effect. Structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that N enrichment enhanced N2O emissions through alterations in fungal community composition and key soil physicochemical properties such as pH, ammonium nitrogen (NH4+-N), available phosphorus (AP), microbial biomass carbon (MBC), and microbial biomass nitrogen (MBN)). Notably, our findings demonstrated that N2O emissions were significantly more influenced by fungal activities, particularly genera like Fusarium, rather than bacterial processes in response to N enrichment. Overall, the study highlights that N enrichment intensifies the role of fungal attributes and soil properties in driving N2O emissions. In contrast, P enrichment exhibited a non-significant effect on N2O emissions, which highlights the critical role of the fungal community in N2O emissions responses to nutrient enrichments in alpine grassland ecosystems.

Structural Characterization and Physicochemical Properties of Functionally Porous Proton-Exchange Membrane Based on PVDF-SPA Graft Copolymers.

Fluorinated proton-exchange membranes (PEMs) based on graft copolymers of dehydrofluorinated polyvinylidene fluoride (D-PVDF), 3-sulfopropyl acrylate (SPA), and 1H, 1H, 2H-perfluoro-1-hexene (PFH) were prepared via free radical copolymerization and characterized for fuel cell application. The membrane morphology and physical properties were studied via small-(SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), SEM, and DSC. It was found that the crystallinity degree is 17% for PEM-RCF (co-polymer with SPA) and 16% for PEM-RCF-2 (copolymer with SPA and PFH). The designed membranes possess crystallite grains of 5-6 nm in diameter. SEM images reveal a structure with open pores on the surface of diameters from 20 to 140 nm. Their transport and electrochemical characterization shows that the lowest membrane area resistance (0.9 Ωcm2) is comparable to perfluorosulfonic acid PEMs (such as Nafion®) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) based CJMC cation-exchange membranes (ChemJoy Polymer Materials, China). Key transport and physicochemical properties of new and commercial membranes were compared. The PEM-RCF permeability to NaCl diffusion is rather high, which is due to a relatively low concentration of fixed sulfonate groups. Voltammetry confers that the electrochemical behavior of new PEM correlates to that of commercial cation-exchange membranes, while the ionic conductivity reveals an impact of the extended pores, as in track-etched membranes.

Gem‐Difluoro‐3‐azabicyclo[3.n.1]alkanes and Their Derivatives – Bicyclic Fluorinated Piperidine Isosteres for Drug Discovery

AbstractAn approach to gem‐difluoro‐3‐azabicyclo[3.n.1]alkane‐ derived building blocks through double‐Mannich addition– deoxofluorination sequence is described. The scope of the method was demonstrated for a series of saturated (hetero)cyclic ketones or ketoesters (including five‐ to seven‐membered cycloalkane derivatives and N‐, O‐, S‐containing saturated heterocycles). Further transformations of functional groups produced various bifunctionalized difluorinated building blocks, namely, N‐protected aminoacids, mono‐N‐Boc‐protected diamines, and unprotected aminoalcohols in good to excellent overall yields. For the azabicyclo[3.3.1]alkane series, a potential for isosteric replacements is demonstrated by evaluation of the key physicochemical properties (i. e., pKa(H) and LogP).

SciRAPnano: a pragmatic and harmonized approach for quality evaluation of in vitro toxicity data to support risk assessment of nanomaterials.

Large amounts of nanotoxicity data from alternative non-animal (in vitro) test methods have been generated, but there is a lack of harmonized quality evaluation approaches for these types of data. Tools for scientifically sound and structured evaluation of the reliability and relevance of in vitro toxicity data to effectively inform regulatory hazard assessment of nanomaterials (NMs), are needed. Here, we present the development of a pragmatic approach to facilitate such evaluation. The tool was developed based on the Science in Risk Assessment and Policy (SciRAP) tool currently applicable to quality evaluation of chemical toxicity studies. The approach taken to develop the tool, referred to as SciRAPnano, included refinement of the original SciRAP in vitro tool through implementation of identified NM-relevant criteria, and further refined based on a set of case studies involving evaluation of 11 studies investigating in vitro toxicity of nano-sized titanium dioxide. Parameters considered cover key physicochemical properties as well as assay-specific aspects that impact NM toxicity, including NM interference with test methods and NM transformation. The final SciRAPnano tool contains 38 criteria for reporting quality, 19 criteria for methodological quality, and 4 guidance items to evaluate relevance. The approach covers essential parameters for pragmatic and harmonized evaluation of NM in vitro toxicity studies and allows for structured use of in vitro data in regulatory hazard assessment of NMs, including transparency on data quality.

Thermodynamic consideration of dissolution and distribution behavior of carvedilol in pharmaceutical significant media

The key physico-chemical properties for pharmaceutical design as solubility and distribution coefficients of cardiovascular carvedilol (CVD) in modeling solvents and biphasic systems were determined using the classic shake flask method in the temperature range (293.15–313.15) K. The drug solubility in 1-octanol and hexane was measured at first time. The equilibrium mole fraction solubility of CVD at reference temperature was changed in following order: 1-octanol (2.79∙10-3) > hexane (4.56∙10-6) > buffer pH 2.0 (3.39∙10-6) > buffer pH 7.4 (1.53∙10-7). Solubility pH-profile was characterized a weak solubility in acidic media and very poor solubility in neutral. The experimental lipophilic values logDO/B (1.83 and 2.36 at buffer solution pH 2.0 and 7.4, respectively) were shown the excellent penetration power into both the circulatory system and the entire intestinal tract. The temperature dependences of the CVD distribution coefficients in 1-octanol/buffer and hexane/buffer two-phase systems at pH two values (2.0 and 7.4) were considered from the thermodynamic view point. Thermodynamic functions of solubility and transfer processes were calculated and analyzed. Thermophysical parameters of the compound were used for estimation of the ideal solubility and activity coefficients. Moreover partial excess thermodynamic functions of CVD dissolution in saturated solutions, demonstrating the positive deviation real solvents from ideality, are also evaluated in detail. The data obtained will be in demand both for the creation of conceptually new dosage forms of carvedilol with improved bioavailability, and for constructing structure–property correlations in a number of structure-like compounds.

Characterization of White Soil in the Batwahi Area of Chhattisgarh: An Analysis of Physico-Chemical Properties

Investigating the role of water on CO2 capture by amine-based deep eutectic solvents through a combined experimental-molecular modeling approach

To investigate the effect of water on key physicochemical properties of novel amine-based deep eutectic solvents (DES) for CO2 capture, neat binary and aqueous ternary amines (i.e., 2.5–12.5 wt% water) using choline chloride ([Ch][Cl]), and amines including monoethanolamine (MEA), diethanolamine (DEA), and methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) were prepared. Experimental results shed light on the unique role of water in reducing the viscosity of the ternary amine-based DESs by 25%, while leading to peculiar changes in CO2 solubility and heat of absorption, depending on the water content. The experimental data were used to develop molecular models for the soft-statistical association fluid theory (soft-SAFT) to reliably predict their thermophysical properties at a wide range of conditions than those experimentally measured. Quantum chemistry calculations were also used to identify the role of water on the interactions in the amine-based DESs, assisting in the development of the soft-SAFT molecular models. The models provided excellent agreement with the experimental data, while predicting the effect of water on solvents’ properties at other conditions, and effectively modeling the CO2 chemisorption process. This allowed identifying the optimal water content for the ternary amine-based DESs that minimized viscosity and heat of absorption, while maximizing CO2 solubility, with the addition of 11, 12, and 16 wt% water for MEA, DEA, and MDEA-based DESs, respectively. These results pave the path for developing alternative solvents to accelerate the deployment of CO2 capture technologies.

The Role of Metallic Nanoparticles in the Prevention and Treatment of Parasitic Diseases in Poultry

The development of nanotechnology for the treatment of parasitic diseases is still in its infancy. However, it is expected that this new field can provide a solution to parasitic diseases and compensate for the lack of vaccines to prevent them. It can also provide new treatment options for parasitic diseases resistant to current treatments. Nanomaterials have been developed for antibacterial and anticancer therapies. However, it is important to determine their antiparasitic potential due to the wide variety of their physicochemical properties. When designing metallic nanoparticles (MeNPs) and specialized nanosystems like MeNPs encapsulated within a drug shell, it is essential to consider several key physicochemical properties. Shape, size, surface charge, and type of surfactant control are some of these physicochemical properties. In addition to interacting with parasite cells’ target molecules, shell molecules are also important. By developing antiparasitic drugs using nanotechnology and nanomaterials for diagnostics, new and effective methods of treatment and diagnostic tools for poultry diseases are expected to be available in the future to enhance poultry disease prevention and reduce morbidity and mortality rates.

Assessment of soil properties and trace element accumulation in arid regions: A case study of Kalmykia's central dry steppe zone, Russia

Soil plays a pivotal role in ecosystem health and agricultural productivity. This study focuses on a critical region for soil research, Kalmykia's central dry steppe zone in southern Russia, characterized by arid conditions and unique challenges. Our investigation aimed to evaluate the current state of soil properties and assess trace element accumulation within this environment. The region's distinctive characteristics, including being home to Europe's first desert, present a complex scenario for soil conservation and management. A thorough analysis of key physicochemical properties, including organic matter content, soil texture, pH levels, and the concentrations of trace elements (V, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, and Pb) using established methodologies, was conducted. Our findings revealed several crucial insights into the soil conditions of this arid region. Soil samples predominantly consisted of Haplic Kastanozems Sodic, characterized by low organic carbon content (0.3-1.9%). Soil texture analysis indicated a predominantly light and medium loamy granulometric composition with a prevalence of sandy fractions. Soil pH values ranged from neutral (pH = 7.6-7.9) to slightly alkaline (pH = 8.0-8.4). Furthermore, the study provided the first assessment of soil conditions in residential areas of the Caspian Lowland's arid region. Notably, trace element analysis showed elevated concentrations of several metals, with Sr having the highest levels. Co, Cr, and Zn concentrations did not significantly increase compared to the background values. The results of this soil fertility evaluation hold significance for soil restoration and conservation efforts in this unique and fragile ecosystem. In conclusion, this study underscores the urgent need for soil monitoring and management practices to address soil degradation and desertification driven by overgrazing and erosion. Understanding the physicochemical properties and trace element dynamics in arid regions is essential for developing strategies to restore and conserve these valuable soils.
