Phenotype and genotype of Boerka goats raised in Bali.

Boerka goats are the new breed in Bali targeted at meeting the increasing demand for lamb. They are meat-type goats created by crossing male Boer and female Kacang breeds. This new breed is expected to have good adaptation in a poor environment, such as Kacang goats and produce good quality lamb as Boer goats. Therefore, this study aimed to examine phenotypic and genotypic characteristics of Boerka goats raised in Bali. A total of 16 female Boerka goats at 2 years old collected from a group of livestock farmers in Sanda Village were used as samples. This observational study began with observations of qualitative characteristics and morphometric measurements of goats, followed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of the growth hormone (GH) gene using GH5F and GH5R primers. Polymerase chain reaction products were then sequenced and analyzed with the MEGA 11 program. The results showed that all Boerka goats had stuck-down ears, the heads were predominantly brown in color (62.5%), the body color pattern tends to be white (87.50%), and the tail color pattern was also dominated by white (62.5%). In morphometric terms, the samples were close to Kacang goats based on the body weight, head length, head width, chest width, depth, and circumference, left front leg circumference, ear length, ear width, tail length, tail width, and flank height except for head height, body length, horn length, and shoulder height. Analysis of the GH gene showed that Boerka goats had a nucleotide composition dominated by the purine base guanine (26.5%) and pyrimidine cytosine (31.8%). Furthermore, they formed a separate cluster with a genetic distance of 14.1% to the Anhui White breed from China, the Tibetan breed, and the Swiss Saanen breed. Boerka goats raised in Bali have phenotypes, including qualitative characteristics and morphometric measurements close to Kacang goats. As meat-type goats, they also form a separate cluster distinct from similar types worldwide.

Correlation between dry matter digestibility and final body weight of Kacang goats fed on a combination of sugarcane top leaf, coffee husk waste flour and urea molasses block

A study aimed about examining the correlation between dry matter consumption, dry matter digestibility of feed and final body weight was carried out on local goats (Kambing Kacang) fed on basal feed of sugarcane top leaf (STL) and urea molasses block containing different percentages of coffee husk waste flour (UMB-CHWF) has been carried out for 90 days of observation using a completely randomized design. This study used 16 young male goats aged 6 months and fed on 4 types of feed treatment, namely: P1 (fed on STL and UMB without CHWF), P2 (fed on STL and UMB contained 10% of CHWF), P3 (fed on STL and UMB contained 20% of CHWF) and P4 (fed on STL and UMB contained 30% of CHWF. The results showed that combination of STL and UMB feed containing 20% CHWF showed a very close positive correlation (coefficient correlation was 0.79, 0.63 and 0.93, respectively) between the increase in amount of dry matter consumption, dry matter digestibility and final body weight better than other treatments. However, the percentage of CHWF in UMB increased to 30% percent did not changes in totol amount of dry matter consumption, dry matter digestibilityor final body weight on Kambing Kacang after weaning period.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate chitosan nanoparticles in an extender improve the antioxidant capacity and post-thawed quality of Kacang goat semen

Background and Aim: The Kacang goat (Capra hircus) is an indigenous livestock species in Indonesia that is at risk of extinction due to cross-breeding. Artificial insemination (AI) techniques are expected to increase the population of these goats. This study aimed to determine the addition of epigallocatechin-3-gallate chitosan nanoparticles (EGCG CNPs) to skim milk–egg yolk (SM–EY) extender to obtain the best possible quality of post-thawed Kacang buck semen for AI. Materials and Methods: Fresh Kacang buck semen was diluted in SM–EY without or with the addition of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 µg of EGCG CNPs/mL extender. Extended semen was packaged in French mini straws, frooze, and stored in liquid nitrogen at −196℃ for 24 hours. Six replicates from each treatment group were thawed for catalase, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging, malondialdehyde (MDA), sperm intact plasma membrane (IPM), viability and motility analyses. Results: Post-thawed semen that was previously frozen without EGCG CNPs in the extender (control group) exhibited the lowest levels of catalase, DPPH, sperm living cells, sperm motility, MPI, and the highest levels of MDA. The addition of EGCG CNPs in the T3 and T4 groups was increased (p < 0.05) post-thawed catalase, DPPH, living cells, and sperm motility and decreased (p < 0.05) MDA levels than those of the T0 group. Meanwhile, sperm MPI was higher (p < 0.05) in the T4 group than the sperm MPI of the T0 group. Conclusion: This study was the first in using of EGCG CNPs in the SM–EY extender, in which adding 1.5 or 2.0 μg/mL of EGCG CNPs in this extender increased the antioxidant capacity and post-thawed quality of Kacang buck semen.

Morphology and morphometric diversity of three local goats in Gorontalo, Indonesia

This research aimedto identify morphology and morphometric, as well as body indices and measurements markers, for use inlocal goats selection program in Gorontalo, Indonesia. The samples consisted of 37 Etawah Crossbreed, 96 Local Gorontalo, and 40 Kacang goats raised by traditional semi-intensive breeders. The morphological variables observed included feather color, color combination pattern, nose, ear shape, horn, beard, tail direction, and morphometric variables observed were withers height, hip height, hip width, body length, chest width, chest depth, chest girth, ear length, and ear width. The qualitative morphology was analyzed with descriptive method with Chi-squared test. While, the morphometrics of goat was used for calculating the body indices and principal component analysis.The results of the chi-square analysis showed significant differences in qualitative morphology among the three observed breeds (p<0.05), except for the presence of horns, beards, and the direction of the tail. The body measurements of Local Gorontalo goats were significantly different from those of Kacang goats except for chest depth. The only difference between the Etawah Crossbreed and the other two breeds included body weight,wither height, hip height, body length, ear length,and ear width (p<0.05). The three local goats had a long body length and legs, with a waist higher than the shoulders. Meanwhile,the medigline classification was only for Local Gorontalo and Kacang goats that had good thoracic development. The conformation index of the three local goat breeds had a significant correlation with body weight. The variables with the best contribution from the first component that can be considered sequentially in the selection program for Etawah Crossbreed goats, Local Gorontalo, and Kacang goats were body length, chest girth, and wither high. For the second component, the variables included ear length and chest width, while that of the third component in Kacang goats wasear length.

PENGARUH SUPLEMENTASI KONSENTRAT TEPUNG TONGKOL JAGUNG TERFERMENTASI YANG DITAMBAHKAN Zn-BIOKOMPLEKS TERHADAP KINERJA PERTUMBUHAN KAMBING KACANG

The study aimed at evaluating the effect of supplementing concentrate containing fermented corncob (TTJF) and Zn bio-complex on kacang goat performance. There were 12 kacang does 6-8 months of age with 9,3-15,5 averanging 11,20 kg and CV 13,30%. initial body weight used in the study. Completely randomized design 4 treatment diets offered were: R0 : concentrate feed without fermented corncob + 2,06g Zn bi-complex, R1 : concentrate feed containing TTJF 10% + Zn-Biokomplex 2,06g; R2 : concentrate feed containing TTJF 20% + Zn-Biokomplex 2,06g and R3: concentrate feed containing TTJF 30% + Zn-Biokomplex 2,06g. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of all variables measured were : R0 daily body weight gain (52.21g), R1 (66.16g), R2 (46.17g), R3 (42.09g), daily body length gain: R0 (0.17cm), R1 (0.20cm), R2 (0.18cm), R3 (0.14cm), daily girth cycle gain R0 (0.22cm), R1 (0.27cm), R2 (0.23cm), R3 (0.19cm) and daily body height R0 (0.15cm), R1 (0.18cm), R2 (0.15cm), R3 (0.13cm). Statistical analysis shows that the effect of supplementing containing fermented corncob concentrate with Zn bio-complex is not significant (P>0.05) on all performance variables measured. The conclusion is that supplementing containing fermented corncob concentrate up to 30% with Zn bio-complex performs the relative results in kacang does growth performances. Human Resources for Local Goat Breeders in Post-Mining Land Areas in Pomalaa District, Indonesia

The ruminant livestock population in Southeast Sulawesi in 2021 for goats is spread evenly in 17 urban districts with a total of 195,575 heads. Goat farming in general in Southeast Sulawesi does not yet have a clear direction and purpose because breeders who raise goats are still extensive or semi-intensive. Local goats such as the Kacang goat and the Ettawa breed are the types of goats that are kept by many breeders in this area. Southeast Sulawesi has 69 mining business units with the largest area in North Konawe Regency at 2.400.6 hectares, Kolaka Regency at 1.215.28 hectares, and South Konawe Regency with 3.686.27 hectares owned by PT Antam Tbk and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk. This study explicitly examines the resources of local goat breeders in the post-mining land area in Polamalaa District, Kolaka Regency with a purposive sampling technique. The findings are then analyzed descriptively to reveal the actual phenomena and events that occurred during the research. The findings showed that the average age of the respondents as local goat breeders ranged from 46-60 years, which was dominated by men with the lowest level of education who had not graduated from elementary school. In addition to having a job as a breeder, the majority of breeders work in the food crop agriculture sector with more than 15-20 years of farming experience

Conclusion: This study was the first in which EGCG CNPs were used in SM–EY extender, and the addition of only 1.0 µg/mL of EGCG CNPs in this extender increased the antioxidant capacity and post-thawed quality of Kacang buck semen.

Rumen Fermentation Optimization of Kacang Goats Fed Complete Silage-Based Feed Sorghum-Clitoria ternatea with Various Concentrate Levels Contains ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu Isoleucinate

This research was conducted to determine fermentation in the rumen, consumption, and digestibility as well as utilization of protein and energy in Kacang goats that were given Sorghum-Clitoria ternatea [PKSS-Ct] Silage-based Complete Feed. The study used an experimental method with a randomized block design [RBD] with four treatments and four replications, namely T0: Silage of sorghum – Clitoria ternatea without concentrate; T1: T0 + 10% concentrate with 150 mg ZnSO4 / kg DM ration and 2% Zn-Cu isoleucinate/kg DM concentrate; T2 : T0 + 20% concentrate with 150 mg ZnSO4/kg ration feed and 2% Zn-Cu isoleucinate/kg DM concentrate and T3: T0 + 30% concentrate with 150 mg ZnSO4/kg BK diet and 2% Zn-Cu isoleucinate/ kg BK concentrate. Parameters measured were 1]. Chemical composition of feed 2]. Rumen Fermentation of kacang goat. The results showed that the treatment had an effect on increasing the crude protein content and BETN, conversely there was a decrease in crude fiber content and a very significant increase in NH3 concentration and VFA production [P<0.01] and the highest increase was in T2. It can be concluded that complete feeding based on Clitoria ternatea sorghum silage with the addition of concentrate containing 150 mg ZnSO4/kg DM ration and 2% Zn-Cu isoleucinate/kg DM concentrate at a level of 20% can increase the concentration of NH3 and the highest VFA production in kacang goats.

The Effect of Using Papaya and Watermelon Juice as a Non-Synthetic Buffer on the Quality of Kacang Goat's (Capra Hircus) Liquid Semen During Cold Storage at 5oC

This study examines the role of non-synthetic buffers from watermelon and papaya juice added to coconut water diluent on the liquid semen quality of Kacang goats during cold storage at 5oC for three months. An experimental method was used in which semen from a 2.5-year-old male was collected twice a week using an artificial vagina. The primary ingredients include young coconut water, Viridis, watermelon, papaya, NaHCO3, and Egg Yolk (KT). Furthermore, the observed variables were individual motility, viability, and abnormality. This study used a Randomized Block Design (RAK)) with 3 treatments and 10 replications, namely P0: Coconut Water + NaHCO3 + 10% KT, P1: Coconut Water + Watermelon Juice + 10% KT, and P2: Coconut Water + Papaya Juice + 10% KT. The data were analyzed using Variety Analysis. The results showed the treatment had a significant effect (P<0.01) on individual motility at all storage times, with the best motility up to 120 storage minutes with 61.00±3.16% at P1. Furthermore, the treatment had a significant effect (P<0.01) on viability at all storage times. The best treatment was P0 (72.24±5.28%), and the lowest was P2 (1.40±0.84%), with a shelf life of 120 minutes. The treatment had no effect (P>0.01) on abnormality at all storage times. It can be concluded that the use of watermelon and papaya juice as non-synthetic buffers in coconut water diluent on Kacang goat semen affects motility and viability but has no effect on abnormality.

Body and Head Morphometric of Kacang Goat under Semi Intensive Management at Fishpond Area in Sidoarjo Regency, Indonesia

Morphometric characterization is the basis of conservation strategies, performance improvement, breeding, and sustainable utilization plan. The purpose of this research was to determine the morphometrics of the Kacang Goats at the fishpond area in Sidoarjo Regency based on different ages and sex. The fishpond area in Sidoarjo is a closed area where goats are raised and have the potential for inbreeding with the consequence of smaller-sized offspring than normal. Morphometric measurements included the head, ears, neck, body, legs, tail, and horns. This research used a descriptive analysis approach, presenting data in form of mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. The result showed that the average face length of male vs. female Kacang goats was 16.73 ± 2.40 cm vs. 19.68 ± 2.44 cm; with a face width of 11.25 ± 2.91 cm vs. 19.52 ± 3.18 cm; ear length of 14.62 ± 1.38 cm vs. 16.46 ± 1.47 cm; neck length of 15.53 ± 2.65 cm vs. 15.35 ± 2.14 cm; horn length of 7.41 ± 4.10 cm vs. 6.59 ± 2.89 cm; chest circumference of 59.33 ± 8.18 cm vs. 67.80 ± 6.32 cm; body length of 51.45 ± 6.70 cm vs. 56.91 ± 6.54 cm; body height of 54.41 ± 7.22 cm vs. 62.01 ± 5.53 cm; tail length of 13.21 ± 2.01 cm vs. 14.77 ± 3.37 cm; hind leg length of 39.20 ± 5.26 cm vs. 47.74 ± 5.47 cm; and front leg length of 37.00 ± 8.84 cm vs. 44.63 ± 8.65 cm. This research concludes that Kacang Goats in Sidoarjo has characteristics according to SNI standard, and the morphometric size was larger in female than male goats.

Perbedaan ras kambing PE Kaligesing dan PE Senduro terhadap pertumbuhan anak kambing mulai lahir-sapih

The Etawa Crossbreed Goat (PE) is a local goat produced by crossing the Jamnapari goat with the Kacang goat, which consists of two breeds, namely PE Kaligesing and PE Senduro. The purpose of this study was to identify the size of the lamb of PE Kaligesing and PE Senduro goats in terms of birth weight, weaning weight, body length, height, chest circumference, and ear length. Observations were carried out for 2 months starting in October-December 2021. The materials used were 13 lamb of PE Kaligesing and PE Senduro goats each. The location was in the parent and child cages. Collecting data on this observation were in the form of primary data (weaning weight, body length, height, chest circumference, and ear length) and secondary data (birth weight). The results of the T-test showed that there was no significant difference in body size (P>0.05) of the kid of the PE Kaligesing and PE Senduro because the two breeds were the result of a cross between an Etawah goat and a Kacang goat. Based on statistical results, the body size of the PE Kaligesing kid (birth weight, weaning weight, body length, height, and chest circumference) was higher than that of the PE Senduro kid because the PE Kaligesing had two genetic components, namely Etawah and Kacang while PE Senduro had three genetic components. namely Etawah, Kacang, and Jawarandu. The Kaligesing PE kid has a body size that was superior to the Senduro PE kid.

Effects Of Indigofera Zollingeriana As Substitute For Concentrate In Elephant Grass-Based Rations (Pennisetum Purpureum) On Availability Of Macro Minerals (Ca, P, Mg, & S) In Kacang Goat

This study aims to explore the best level of Indigofera zollingeriana as concentrate substitution in elephant grass-based rations on the availability of macro minerals (Ca, P, Mg, and S) in kacang goats. This study investigated 12 kacang goats weighing 11 to 12 kg were investigated. The data were collected using an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of three treatments and four replications. They were P1: 60% elephant grass + 30% concentrates + 10% Indigofera zollingeriana; P2: 60% elephant grass + 20% concentrates + 20% Indigofera zollingeriana; and P3: 60% elephant grass + 10% concentrates + 30% Indigofera zollingeriana. The observed variables were the availability of calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P), magnesium (Mg), and sulfur (S). The statistical analysis used was the analysis of variance. Meanwhile, the mean differences were tested using the DMRT test (Duncan’s multiple range test). The results showed that substitution for concentrates with Indigofera zollingeriana significantly affects (P0.05) the availability of Mg and S minerals. This study concludes that the concentrate substitution with 30% Indigofera zollingeriana could increase the availability of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) minerals, but not affect the availability of magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) minerals.

Karakteristik Morfometrik Kambing Lokal di Kecamatan Tambang dan Kecamatan Siak Hulu Kabupaten Kampar

This study aims to determine the Morphometric Characteristics of Local Goats in Tambang District and Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The method used in this study is the method of observation and interviews with breeders which were conducted to obtain information about local goats in Siak Hulu District and Tambang District, Kampar Regency. The sampling technique was purposive sampling, namely aged 12-36 months, female goats were not in a state of pregnancy, with a total sample of 60 heads consisting of 30 males and 30 females for each sub-district. The data collected are qualitative characteristics which include: color and pattern of coat color, ear shape and backline. Quantitative properties which include: Face Length, Ear Length, Bust, Chest Width, Inside Chest, Body Length, Shoulder Height, Hip Height, Hip Width, Front Leg Length, Length, Back Leg, Tail Length, and Body Weight. The data obtained in this study were analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of arithmetic mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. Based on the results of morphometric observations of the body size of male and female Kacang goats in Tambang District and Kuok District, the average length of the face, ear length, chest circumference, chest width, chest length, body length, shoulder height, hip height, hip width, leg length was obtained. front, hind legs length, tail length, and body weight were not significantly different (P>0.05).

UTILIZATION OF CARBOHYDRATE POTENTIAL IN VARIOUS KINDS OF BANANA COB FLOUR BANANA IN KACANG GOATS

The objective of this research was to observe the productivity in kacang goats which were given a complete feed containing flour of various types of banana plant weevils. The material studied in this study was six complete types of feed. Complete feed containing weevil flour from 5 banana plant varieties. Complete feed is prepared with a complete feed composition. The cattle used were 18 male bean goats, mean initial body weight, 15.42 ± 1.98 kg (CV: 13.73%) aged 10-15 months. Livestock is given complete feed containing banana weevil flour for 60 days. The cage is 12 m x 6m in size, construction has a floor platform as high as 140 cm, the enclosure is 1 x 1 m in size and 130 cm in height, equipped with a drinking area. The treatment was in the form of 6 complete types of feed with different formulations, consisting of CF0, CF1, CF2, CF3, CF4, and CF5 containing banana weevil flour with different varieties and control treatment (CF0). The research design used was a completely randomized design with five treatments of complete feed formulas containing hump flour of various banana varieties.The results of the research that the complete feed formulation containing Batu banana hump flour (CF2) and Kapok (CF3) produced the best productivity and performance response of Kacang goat. compared to treatment; CF0 CF1; CF4 and CF5.

Effect of The Inclusion of Butterfly Pea (Clitoria ternatea) and Green Sea Weed (Ulva lactuca) in The Complete Feed on The Concentration of Blood Metabolites of Male Kacang Goats

This experiment aimed to investigate the effect of including Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca in the complete feed on the concentration of blood metabolites of male kacang goats. Four male kacang goats were involved in this experiment arranged following a Latin Square Design with 4 treatments and 4 periods as replication. The treatments were R0= native grass hay 60%+concentrate 40%, R1= native grass hay 30%+concentrate 40%+ Clitoria ternatea 30%, R2= native grass hay 30%+concentrate 40%+ Clitoria ternatea 15%+ Ulva lactuca 15% and R3= native grass hay 30%+ concentrate 40%+Ulva lactuca 30%. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by the Duncan Multiple Range Test when significant differences were found. The results showed that feeding a complete feed containing Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca did not significantly (P>0,05) affect the concentration of urea, glucose and plasm total protein in the blood of male kacang goats. Therefore, it can be concluded the inclusion of Clitoria ternatea and Ulva lactuca has no effect on the concentration of blood metabolites in male kacang goats.

Green Tea Extract in the Extender Improved the Post-Thawed Semen Quality and Decreased Amino Acid Mutation of Kacang Buck Sperm.

This study was the first to combine the addition of antioxidants to a skim milk-egg yolk (SM-EY) extender and different equilibration periods to obtain higher quality post-thawed Kacang buck semen. This study aimed to determine the effects of green tea extract (GTE) on the quality of frozen Kacang goat sperm equilibrated for one and two hours. The pool of Kacang buck ejaculate was equally divided into four portions and was diluted in an SM-EY extender that contained four doses of 0, 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15 mg of GTE/100 mL for T0, T1, T2, and T3 groups, respectively. The aliquots were treated for an equilibration period of 1-2 h before further processing as frozen semen. Post-thawed semen quality was evaluated for sperm quality. The Sanger method was used for DNA sequencing, and the amino acid sequence was read using MEGA v.7.0. The post-thawed semen of the T2 group that was equilibrated for one hour had the highest semen quality. Pre-freezing motility had the highest determination coefficient compared to post-thawed sperm motility. This study is the first to report amino acid mutation due to freeze-thawing. The frequency of amino acid mutations revealed that T2 was the least mutated amino acid. Glycine, valine, leucine, serine, and asparagine strongly correlated to post-thawed sperm motility. It can be concluded that a combination of 0.1 mg GTE/100 mL extender as an antioxidant and one-hour equilibration period resulted in the best post-thawed Kacang buck semen quality.

Reproductive Performance of Kacang Goats in Closed Population Areas of Sidoarjo Regency, East Java, Indonesia

The objective of this study was to determine the reproductive performance of Kacang goats in a closed population area of Oro-Oro Farm located in Sawohan Village, Buduran Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency. We used 146 Kacang goat with a range of parity from 1 to > 7. Data analysis was carried out using the ANOVA test, Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, coefficient of variation test and descriptive test to measure litter size, pre-weaning mortality, kidding interval (KI), days open (DO) and Kacang goat reproduction index. The results showed that the highest litter size was 1.69 ± 0.63 at parity 6, the lowest pre-weaning mortality at parity > 7 was 11.76%, the shortest kidding interval and days open was at parity 4 for 7.35 ± 1.22 and 2.35 ± 1.22 months, respectively. The best Kacang goat reproduction index was 2.22 at parity 6 with coefficient of variation of 38.06%, 41.08% and 13.36% for litter size (LS), days open (DO), kidding interval (KI). Conclusively, there was a diverse reproductive performance of Kacang goats in the closed population area of Oro-Oro Farm located in Sawohan Village, Buduran Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency based on parity 1 to > 7, in which the higher the parity, the higher the reproductive performance. However, parity 5 onwards saw a declining reproductive performance due to weakened livestock conditions.
