Growth data were recorded at weekly intervals for four varieties of jute. Simultaneously, daily weather factors were recorded and averaged for the weeks corresponding to the growth rate periods. The growth rates were correlated with weather factors, age and cumulative growth of plants. Multiple regression analyses were made with the significant weather factors, viz., minimum temperature, sunshine duration and rainfall; age and cumulative growth being independent variables against growth rate as a dependent variable. The resulting prediction equations were tested on independent growth and weather data. The predicted and observed values were in relatively close agreement for both growth rate and cumulative growth.
