We believe it is the only testicular transplant as a whole organ of testicle ever made. It was done on November 1978. METHODS: A cadaveric testicle was transplanted into a 21-year old patient who had lost both testicles three years before due a non-specific infectious process. According to his Psychiatric evaluation, ever since, he suffered from grave obsessional neurosis. The same technique developed by Prof. JMa Gil-Vernet in 1970 experimentally was used. Warm and cold isquemia on testicular parenquima were investigated, the various methods of preservation of the organ, the gonadotrophic response was studied as well as different immune suppressant agents used in different dosages. RESULTS: The testicle was rejected three weeks later probably due to the host versus graft response in spite of all the ultimate knowledge available at that time as well as immunosupressant agents of the period. CONCLUSIONS: The great advances in histocompatibility and immunosuppression of today, combined with this detailed description of the technique for such a complex organ transplantation, will deliver improved results in the very special and selected case. Technology evolution along with prostate awareness programs favored endoscopic procedures, for the Transurethral Resection (TUR) to become the Gold Standard. A perfect view has been a central point in achieving the 100% success rate. In 1995, AUA 90th annual meeting, the initial experience in large prostate glands was presented with the Neodymium-YAG laser and a straight firing fiber with the rationale to coagulate in depth from the prostatic urethra towards the branches of the large arteries entering into the capsule, then followed by a conventional TUR. METHODS: A 50-Year-old male presented with Hematuria. An extensive high-grade urothelial lamina propria penetrating tumor over the submucosal left ureter was Holmium laser treated. A narrow bladder neck with an altered uroflowmetry and 76% residual urine was present. The first three-month control Urethrocystoscopy, showed no tumor and the prostate gland was operated with the aforementioned technique. Both, the 1995 AUA and 2019 video, will be shown simultaneously, the latter with immediate (Fig. 1) and 6 months retrograde flexible cystoscopy results (Fig. 2). Procedures have been carried out with negligible bleeding all along. Straight Firing fiber was chosen again to reproduce the same condition, but today with the Holmium laser. RESULTS: 784 cases, from 62 - 77-year-old, otherwise healthy patients with prostates from 40 to 140 gr have been operated with this technique. Blood transfusion has been required in 0.3%. Uroflow measurements have immediately increased and remained. CONCLUSIONS: The technique is simple, any laser and fiber might be utilized, allows “through air” vision along the TUR Gold Standard and it has taken the test of time. Low compliance with hepatocellular carcinoma screening guidelines in hepatitis B/C virus co-infected HIV patients with cirrhosis.

The incidence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients co-infected with HIV and hepatitis B virus (HBV) or hepatitis C virus (HCV) is increasing. In patients with cirrhosis, guidelines recommend HCC screening every 6 months. We assessed compliance with HCC screening guidelines in cirrhotic HBV/HCV-HIV-co-infected patients. HBV/HCV-HIV-co-infected patients with cirrhosis were enrolled from 4 European prospective cohorts participating in the COHERE collaboration, followed from 1 January 2005-1 January 2015. Assessment of liver cirrhosis was based on clinical diagnosis and liver biopsy or Fibroscan. Compliance with HCC screening guidelines was defined as one ultrasound every 6 months. Generalized estimating equation models adjusted for repeated measurements were fitted to determine predictors of low compliance. Different sensitivity analyses were performed and validation of the data was carried out by randomly checking 10% of each cohort's data. 646 HIV-patients with the diagnosis of cirrhosis were included: 518 (80%) HCV-, 85 (13%) HBV- and 43 (7%) HBV/HCV-co-infected. Median age at cirrhosis diagnosis was 44 years, median follow-up time since diagnosis was 5.3 years. Screening </=6 months was performed in 6-18% of individuals from 2005-2015. If the screening interval was increased to 9 or 12 months, compliance improved to 7-24% and 7-30% respectively. Thus, compliance with HCC screening guidelines in cirrhotic HIV-patients co-infected with HBV and/or HCV in Europe is low. In light of an ageing population and the increasing prevalence of liver cirrhosis this situation needs to be addressed urgently. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

La glorieta miniatura: manifiesto genérico del microrrelato

Jose Mª Merino no es sólo uno de los autores contemporáneos más afianzados del microrrelato español, sino que además, como creador, ha aportado nuevas claves al estudio de este tipo de textos desde varias perspectivas; mientras que en La trama oculta: cuentos de los dos lados con una silva mínima Merino aglutina varios ensayos en los que disecciona las características esenciales de la ficción breve, también nos encontramos con los metamicrorrelatos recogidos en La glorieta miniatura, a través de los cuales el escritor construye una meticulosa poética sobre el género, definiendo muchos de sus rasgos fundacionales.&#x0D; La glorieta de los fugitivos es el libro que aglutina casi la totalidad de sus textos dedicados al microrrelato; este volumen consta de tres partes: la primera compuesta por Días imaginarios, Cuentos del libro de la noche e Inéditos y dispersos; la segunda, La glorieta miniatura (veinticinco pasos) y, por último, un apéndice con Diez cuentines congresistas. Son precisamente estas dos últimas secciones las que nos interesan: la primera por constituir en sí misma un manifiesto teórico del microrrelato; y la segunda por presentar, aludiendo a los especialistas a quienes van dirigidos, las controversias que este género es capaz de despertar.

El estudio de dibujos animados CIFESA y las películas de Rigalt-Reyes

&lt;p&gt;La edad de oro de la animación española (1939-1955) —en la que se realizaron cerca de un centenar de cortometrajes y cinco largometrajes— siempre ha resultado interesante por el difícil contexto de posguerra en el que se desarrolló. Pero aún resulta más sugestiva si nos centramos en sus inicios, muchas de las veces autodidactas, y nos alejamos del epicentro animado que era Barcelona. Esta es la historia de los primeros animadores valencianos de los que hay constancia, el prácticamente desconocido equipo formado por Carlos Rigalt y José Mª Reyes.&lt;br /&gt;Pero además, en el presente artículo al heroísmo pionero se le suma lo enigmático. Pues del trabajo de la misteriosa pareja, auspiciado por el Estudio de Dibujos Animados CIFESA en la que sería su efímera incursión en la producción propia animada de la major española por definición, no queda ni rastro. Obras, autores e infraestructura que no trascendieron y a los que el tiempo sepultó bajo un manto de olvido, pero que quizá merezcan un recuerdo por su condición de adelantados en una técnica, en un país y en un tiempo difíciles.&lt;br /&gt;Reparar su memoria es el objeto de este trabajo que se inicia en Valencia, y que tras pasar por Madrid y Barcelona terminará sorprendentemente en Guatemala, tras los pasos de un artista multidisciplinar y de talento que fue elemento principal de la historia a la vez que cómplice de su olvido.&lt;/p&gt;

Reactivating Filipino Youth Activism in the Age of Slacktivism

Radical youth movements today are viewed as a chimera of a bygone era inspired by a now-defunct ideology. Many youth scholars believe that the birth of Web 2.0 technology, together with the continued influence of/emphasis on state-sponsored civic education, has drastically reconfigured the youth subculture and the youth’s political engagement. This paper, though, argues that this reconfiguration is but a reflection of neoliberal capitalism still at work in our modern society. While conscious of the changing landscape of a youth culture that is now saturated by various forms of media, this paper, toward the end, reaffirms Jose Ma. Sison’s call for the Filipino youth to be the vanguards of social change.

La imagen de los partidos políticos en El Informal, CQC y Las Noticias del Guiñol en las elecciones legislativas de 2001

This paper explains the results of qualitative and quantitative research carried out along the campaign for the 2000 Spanish elections. The aim of this research was to get to know the image of the three main national parties presented at the three TV programmes which parody Politics in the country: «Caiga quien caiga» and «El Informal» (both broadcast by Tele 5) and «Las noticias del Guinol» (by Canal +). The timelength of informative coverage of each party was measured in the quantitative analysis. The aim of the qualitative one was to know if the slant on the presentation of the parties was positive or negative; even considering that this type of programmes are parodical in themselves. The analysis of the contents of the programmes shows a lack of neutrality. The PSOE and Joaquin Almunia were favoured, against PP and Jose Ma Aznar.

La afirmación de un nuevo canon historiográfico: la historia de la Nación

Este artículo presenta la constitución de una nueva prespectiva sobre la historiografía sobre México. Parte de la situación histórica del enfrentamiento que tuvo la Federación con los Estados y Municipios durante el siglo XIX y señala cómo la explicación histórica iba acompañando esos sucesos. Se reflexiona cómo poco a poco fue consituyéndose el nuevo canon historiográfico: la historia de la Nación. Hace un análisis de las principales carcterísticas de las historias escritas por Manuel Larráinzar, José Ma. Vigil, Vicente Riva Palacio y Justo Sierra. Hace énfasis particular en el análisis de las obras México a través de los siglos y Evolución política del pueblo mexicano.

Evil or Ill? Justifying the Insanity Defense

Analytical study of the main door of Santiago church, Guadix, Granada

The analytical study described on this paper has been made due to the request formulated by the priest of Santiago church, D. Jose Ma Ballesteros, through the Provincial Delegation of Culture of Granada. In view of the degradation of the main door front, the Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Historico has been asked for technical advice on the possible treatment to be carried out to resolve the problems of this front. As a part of the technical study we have carried out the analysis required to determine the characteristics of the stone used, the possible causes of weathering and to evaluate the most adequate treatment products, in case that it is convenient to apply any one as a part of the conservation restoration works. As a first step we have carried out a visual inspection of the door front and the inside of the church, and then samples have been taken. These samples have been analyzed by means of: chemical analysis of main components, X Ray diffraction, mineralogic petrographic study and SEM observation. From all these determinations it has been deduced the possible causes and mechanisms of alteration. As previous phase to the evaluation of treatments, due to the high quantity of stone needed to make all the tests, we have proceeded to identify and find the quarry of origin of this stone; it is located in Bacor, a little village on the municipal term of Guadix, at 40 Km from it. Once the identification has been made with certainty, enough material has been extracted to prepare the samples used. It is very interesting to study this stone because it has been employed also on the Cathedral of Guadix and it will be able to extend the results obtained on the tests to this building.
