WHAT SKILLS DO EMPLOYERS WANT FROM RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATES?

Currently, it is not enough for university graduates to acquire only occupation-specific academic knowledge to find a job. Graduates are also expected to possess an additional set of skills called employability skills. In this study, job vacancies were analyzed to determine the skills employers want from new graduates. In this study, 178 job posts for new graduates on an online job search platform (Kariyer. net) were analyzed using content analysis. According to the findings of the study, fewer hard skills and more soft skills were demanded by recent university graduates. The most demanded skills for both associate degree and bachelor's degree graduates were skills in social and communication groups. When examined in detail, the highest-demanded soft skills include "strong communication skills,” "predisposition to teamwork,” "planning and organization skills,” "effective written and oral communication skills.” In addition, "mastery of MS Office applications, knowledge of foreign languages and "knowledge of computer programs related to the field" are among the technical skills that graduates require. This research is expected to guide new graduates in terms of which skills they should develop and educational institutions in terms of updating their curricula in line with the demand for skills.

Design of an Inclusive Digital Platform for Training and Distribution of Human Resources in Improving Accessibility and Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities

This study addresses the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing employment opportunities in Indonesia, focusing on the creation of a digital platform that enhances their employability. The research was conducted at Sentra Budi Perkasa in Palembang City, a center that already utilizes an online training registration system but struggles with effective distribution of resources to its trainees. The primary objective was to develop a web-based platform that facilitates registration and improves access to job vacancies for persons with disabilities capable of using electronic devices. Through a combination of observations, interviews, and literature reviews, this study explored the needs and barriers encountered by this demographic, particularly those affected by conditions such as amputation, stroke, and congenital disorders. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology was employed, ensuring a swift development process and involving users actively to reduce errors and enhance system relevance. The resulting platform not only simplifies the process of finding training and job opportunities for persons with disabilities but also serves as a model for similar initiatives aiming to integrate disabled individuals into the workforce more effectively. This study contributes to the field by providing a practical solution to a significant societal issue and outlining a framework for future enhancements in digital accessibility for disabled populations.

Based on the 1945 Constitution Article 27 Paragraph 2 which reads "Every citizen has the right to work and a decent living for humanity." have a decent job in order to earn enough to survive and compete with other workers. This research focuses on employment problems, especially in the unemployment sector, with the massive free work exchange program being held by the Department of Industry and Manpower which will certainly be useful for reducing the unemployment rate. So the aim of this research is to find out the extent to which the Department of Industry and Manpower plays a role as a stabilizer, innovator, modernizer and pioneer in reducing unemployment in the city of Surabaya. Data collection techniques use interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research can be said that the role of the Department of Industry and Manpower has gone well, by collaborating with 70 companies and providing 1211 job vacancies at this free job fair which will really help the employment sector in reducing unemployment in the city of Surabaya.

Faster extraction of matrimonial advertisements from digital archives using a signal processing pipeline: a case study on a 20th-Century Spanish newspaper

ABSTRACT With the exponential growth of digitized historical materials, historians and social scientists face the daunting task of navigating vast online collections. While online archives do provide search tools to query their materials, these usually do not meet the scholars’ need to trace and store all relevant materials from the online archive. This case study shows how computer vision methods, and more specifically a signal processing approach, can be used to identify, classify and extract relevant information items from a vast historical data collection. More specifically, this study reports the results of the construction of a data pipeline that extracts matrimonial advertisements from the digitized Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia. Matrimonial advertisements can provide genuine insights into the evolution of partner preferences over time, but they are hard to collect as they are scattered over millions of digitized historical newspapers and magazines. Moreover, to study variation in partner preferences by, for example, sex, social class, matrimonial status and time period, it is necessary to store the data into a database. The pipeline that we have constructed extracts matrimonial advertisements in a stepwise fashion, encompassing identification, through binarisation and segmentation, and classification based on Optical Character Recognition. By ways of a comprehensive evaluation, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the efficacy of the pipeline for the extraction of matrimonial advertisements is demonstrated. The findings not only underscore the viability of the signal processing approach but also underscore its potential for advancing research in historical demography, family history, as well as economic history, as similar pipelines can be set up to extract other relevant newspaper items, such as, marriage, birth, death and moving announcements, job vacancies or business announcements from digitized source collections.

Addresses the Problem of Aging Population by Immigration in the United States

Abstract: The aging problem is becoming increasingly serious in various countries. The United States was also not spared and foreshadowed an equally negative future trend, which would lead to many problems in various aspects. Therefore, the United States has taken some policies to adapt to aging, but has not actually solved the problem. Some people believe that immigration can improve the problems brought about by the aging population. This article explores the mentioned approach through literature research and simulation. The way of immigration can improve population structure to alleviate population aging, which can be classified into two types - the age structure and the employment structure. In terms of age structure, the article will discuss how immigrants can alleviate the social risks caused by aging by the increasing number of immigrants at the working age. For the employment structure, the article will illustrate the answer to solve the slow economic evolution leaded by aging in regards to filling job vacancies for young and middle-aged immigrants.

Respect for Constitutional Rights of Individuals in Platform Economy

The paper dwells on the issue of respect for labor and social rights of individuals enshrined in the Constitution of the Russian Federation in sectors of the economy that are partially or completely switching to activities in an economic model based on the use of digital platforms (platform economy). The strengths and weaknesses of this method of organizing activities for workers employed in the industries under consideration are elucidated in the context of both labor and civil law relations, including workers having the status of self-employed workers. The main possible reasons for the transition of economic entities to activities within the framework of the platform economy, including with a change in the nature of legal relations, are justified through a set of objective (economic and social) and subjective (related to the education, abilities and motivation of a potential employee) reasons. Avito.ru Internet platform is monitored to find job vacancies, within which ensuring the proper implementation of сonstitutional rights of citizens is possible exclusively within the framework of labor legal relations. The analysis of the conditions of employment offered by actual employers reveals typical potential and actual violations of human rights in relation to both an employee and third parties. Based on the results of the analysis of practice, the author offers a number of measures aimed at eliminating the identified prerequisites for violating the constitutional rights of citizens. In particular, the ban on attracting persons as self-employed to perform work or provide services that pose a threat of violation of their rights or the rights of third parties in the event of this activity outside the framework of labor legal relations, as well as the possibility of recognizing civil law relations between the actual employer and an individual in the status of self-employed actual labor relations.

Addressing HLA Laboratory Vacancy Challenges: Insights from a Survey-Based Analysis

Abstract Introduction/Objective Laboratory vacancies pose significant challenges to institutions across diverse sectors. Understanding the landscape of these vacancies is crucial for developing effective strategies on how best to address them. The American Society of Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (ASHI) Laboratory Professionals Recruitment Initiative (LPRI) was created to help address these issues by promoting and raising awareness of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (HLA) labs. This poster presents findings from a comprehensive survey conducted among various types of institutions to explore the prevailing dynamics surrounding HLA laboratory job vacancies. The primary purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the HLA laboratory job vacancy landscape, including current vacancy rates, time taken to fill vacancies, and the perceived underlying causes attributed to these vacancies. Methods/Case Report The ASHI LPRI developed structured survey was administered to HLA laboratories represented in different service sectors, including hospital based, reference, organ procurement and independent laboratories. The survey collected data on the type of institution, current laboratory job vacancy rates, average time taken to fill vacancies, and perceived primary causes for vacancies. Data analysis was conducted to identify patterns and insights into the HLA laboratory vacancy challenges. Results (if a Case Study enter NA) The majority of respondents were from hospital-based or independent HLA laboratories, with few identifying as reference or organ procurement laboratories. Licensure or required certification was not a restricting factor in filling the vacancies. Vacancy rates for the varying institutions range between 10%- 25% with few reporting greater than 25% vacancy rate. A majority (54%) report their vacancies remain open for > 6 months. Predominant vacancy perpetuation was most attributed to lack of applicants (58%) and insufficient pay offered (41%). Conclusion The findings of this study offer valuable insights into the complexities surrounding laboratory job vacancies in the clinical HLA space. Understanding the underlying causes and dynamics of these vacancies is essential for developing targeted strategies to mitigate the problem. By addressing these challenges, institutions can enhance workforce stability and ensure optimal laboratory operations. This poster serves as a foundation for further research and policy interventions aimed at addressing laboratory vacancy challenges.

Career Preparation Program Model at The Sub Directorate of Career Development and Assessment (CDA) IPB University

Changes in the job map provide career challenges for college graduates. On the other hand, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology makes higher education performance assessments through the IKU PTN to see the absorption of graduates. This research uses quantitative data from the 2018-2023 annual CDA report. Analysis of research data using the SWOT method. Data is presented descriptively to obtain an overview of the implementation of student career preparation programs. For 5 years, CDA IPB has held various career preparation programs, namely membership services, career service information system, on-campus recruitment & publication of job vacancy information, career training & industrial insight, career consultation, job fair, career enrichment, career buddy, stadium general for graduation, internship, career faculties roadshow, career studio, and career preparation in multinational companies. Based on the results of the analysis carried out using the SWOT method, it can be concluded that the CDA programs have been running effectively with several parameters increasing the number of program users, the distribution of work status, as well as testimonials from graduates who have participated in the CDA programs.

Candidates resume analyzer using artificial intelligence

In the modern recruitment process, where the number of candidates and job vacancies constantly increases, automating resume analysis becomes critically important for efficient selection. This paper focuses on developing a system for automated resume analysis using artificial intelligence, specifically the OpenAI model (ChatGPT). The paper thoroughly examines the system's components, structure, and functional capabilities. The system consists of several key modules: the user interface ensures interaction with users, the Application Programming Interface Gateway facilitates data exchange between the interface and the server, and the authentication module controls system access, ensuring user security. The main part of the system's business logic is implemented on the server, which interacts with the natural language processing module, utilizing the ChatGPT model for processing resume text data. The use of natural language processing technologies allows the system to automatically extract and analyse key elements of resumes, such as education, work experience, skills, and certifications of candidates. This significantly speeds up the processing of large volumes of resumes, improving selection efficiency and accuracy. Data obtained during the analysis is stored in a PostgreSQL database, ensuring reliable storage and quick access for further processing. The paper also emphasizes the importance of integrating the system with other recruiting platforms and databases for more efficient management of the hiring process. Such integration allows for automatic synchronization of job vacancies and candidates, optimizing the search and selection process. Additionally, the paper highlights the key challenges associated with automating resume processing, such as the diversity of resume formats submitted by candidates, differences in data structure, and potential errors in automatically recognizing important information. Despite these challenges, the use of artificial intelligence and natural language processing methods significantly enhances the productivity and accuracy of recruitment processes. Thus, the developed automated resume analysis system based on Artificial Intelligence can become a significant tool in the modern candidate selection process. Its functionality not only enables quick and accurate resume analysis but also allows integration with other HR systems, simplifying the recruitment process, reducing data processing time, and improving selection accuracy.

Comparative Analysis of Inclusive Writing in University Discourse: Case Studies from France and Italy

This article examines inclusive writing in the university discourse of France and Italy from a comparative perspective. The research aims to analyze the use of gender-specific and gender-neutral forms in higher education institutions in Paris (Sorbonne University and Paris Catholic Institute) and at the University of the Aosta Valley in Italy (a private university located in a region where French is the second official language). The study is based on a corpus of archival texts and documents, selected through continuous sampling from electronic versions on archive.org between 2020 and 2023. The authors draw conclusions about the specificity and frequency of inclusive writing in these institutions. The findings indicate that, in France, despite the country’s language policy efforts to ban inclusive spelling at the official level, public universities actively use it, in contrast to private institutions, where gender-specific forms are primarily found in job vacancy sections. The authors conclude that the choice of using gender-specific or gender-neutral forms is often left to the discretion of the individual or institution. The study also explores the most common methods of expressing gender specification, including the duplication of feminine and masculine forms, the use of feminine endings/suffixes in brackets or separated by a hyphen, and the marking of positions/professions with “(M/F)” after the masculine form. The potential implications of these practices are analyzed. In Italy, the study reveals a strong connection between French and Italian university cultures but finds no evidence of inclusive writing within the Italian university discourse. Despite the active development of gender equality programs at the state level, there remains an uneven tendency toward gender specification in Italy. The authors conclude that the methods of expressing gender specification play a significant role in shaping the university discourse in both France and Italy. They also note the complete absence of gender-neutral language or any moves beyond the gender binary in the universities studied.

Modeling and Analyzing the Availability of Technical Professional Profiles for the Success of Smart Cities Projects in Europe.

The success of developing and implementing Smart Cities (SC) projects depends on a varied set of factors, where the availability of a qualified technical workforce is a critical one. The combination of ICT requirements, like the effectiveness and quality of solutions merging IoT, cloud computing, sensors, and communications with the work from many varied disciplines (e.g., civil engineering, architecture, etc.), mixed with aspects of environmental and business sustainability, makes the management of these projects really challenging. Reports forecast a scarcity of qualified candidates, given this complexity and the growth of activity in SC projects. The European project SMACITE has addressed the requirements of the qualification of an ICT workforce with an analysis of multiples sources of information from the labor market, feedback from involved stakeholders, and the literature. The goal was the development of two occupational ICT profiles as a reference for training and for the availability of candidates for job vacancies. The result is two ICT role profiles for engineers and technicians, mapped with the European skills frameworks ESCO and EN16234. The profiles determined the whole set of requirements, including not only the technical areas and soft skills, but also additional technical areas and sustainability and managerial skills and the analysis of different sources of information. Our work has also determined which existing ESCO occupations are similar to the two reference profiles, so they are better adapted to SC projects. The training activities of SMACITE have also suggested the amount of training expected for a varied sample of candidates who want to be qualified for SC projects.

Pemodelan Teknologi dalam Aplikasi KitaLulus untuk Lowongan Pekerjaan Menggunakan Metode Technology Acceptance Model (TAM)

Technological advancements have increased the need for job vacancy information, while the unemployment rate in Indonesia remains high. The KitaLulus application is designed to facilitate job seekers in finding opportunities that match their qualifications and preferences. This study adopts the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to analyze user acceptance of this application, focusing on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The objective of this research is to evaluate users' perceptions of the KitaLulus application and analyze the influence of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and behavioral intention on actual system usage. The results indicate that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use significantly influence the acceptance and use of the KitaLulus application. These findings emphasize the importance of intuitive and beneficial application design to enhance technology adoption, while contributing to the development of job search applications and the academic literature on technology acceptance.

Assessing the capabilities of the "Jobs Russia" web portal in solving the problems of analyzing green employment in the labor market

Subject. This article examines the demand for professions related to the green economy. Objectives. The article aims to assess the various tools offered for searching in electronic systems for information about job vacancies involving participation in solving environmental problems. Methods. For the study, I used a comparative analysis. Results. The article finds that the electronic portal Jobs Russia is ahead of competitors in terms of the number and variety of additional services for finding environmentally oriented companies. Conclusions. An important advantage of the Jobs Russia portal is the reliability of the information posted, confirmed by the competent authorities.

How is ‘shortage’ defined? Exploring Nursing Workforce Data across Canada 2015-2022: An Ecological Study

RationaleDetermining the ability of a country’s nursing workforce to meet the health care needs of the population is essential for optimal health outcomes. ‘Nursing shortage’ is frequently heralded as an issue, yet it is unclear how ‘shortage’ is defined and calculated. The purpose of this study was to collect and link publicly available Canadian data to describe and compare trends in nursing workforce capacity. MethodsPrimary data sources included linking Statistics Canada and Canadian Institutes of Health Information (CIHI) data from 2015 to 2022. Statistics Canada tracks provincial population data and job vacancy rates. CIHI receives data from provincial nursing organizations on demographics, roles, and employment status. To estimate a sufficient workforce, job vacancy rates (a proxy for provincial need) were cross tabulated with the number of registered nurses (RNs) and registered psychiatric nurses (RPNs) per year. ResultsThe number of RNs and RPNs in Canada has increased by 8.6% between 2015 and 2022, to a total of 322,226. Job vacancies, as a percent of total nursing supply, shows a rising trend (2.3% to 8.7%) between 2015 and 2022 across Canada. In 2022, 84.9% of Canadian RNs and RPNs in direct patient care across Canada and 86.1% were in urban settings. Conclusion & LimitationsThis project examines Canadian nursing workforce data encompassing potential effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The trends are limited to annual due to aggregated data. Data on a country’s nursing workforce measured monthly and consistently across provinces would yield clearer information.

Psycho-semantic analysis of job advertisements as a communicative tool of educational marketing

Introduction. The relevance of the study of job advertisements for teachers and psychologists is associated with the need to find tools for regulating communication within the modern educational environment with dynamic, constantly changing working conditions. The publication of employer requirements sets the direction for changing the criteria for the success of the specialist, which changes the entire educational environment. The purpose of the study: to identify the categorical semantic structure of job advertisements for teachers (using the example of the "Infrastructure of Scientific Research Data" platform). Materials and methods. The object of the study was a corpus of teacher job vacancies from the "Infrastructure of Scientific Research Data" platform, published in 2023 in 83 regions of Russia (5561 vacancies). The job postings included descriptions of candidate requirements, information about the offered salary, and the region in which the vacancy was available. As a comparison group, a corpus of psychologist job vacancies (2076 vacancies) was considered. The following methods were used in the study: 1) Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) method for identifying and analyzing the structure of requirements presented in teacher and psychologist job vacancies; 2) Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) method for categorical semantic analysis of the structure of teacher and psychologist job vacancies and description of the semantic framework (frame) of the job description; 3) Descriptive statistical methods for analyzing the needs of professionals in helping professions in different regions of Russia and the conditions offered to them. The results of the study. The regions of the Russian Federation with the greatest need for teachers and psychologists have been identified. Based on the statistical significance in the collection of text documents, the most demanded skills of teachers by employers are identified: methodological development and design of an individual educational route (0.167), work with children with disabilities (0.144), organization of the educational process (0.089). For vacancies of psychologists, the most significant were: work on investigative actions (0.319), methodical work in an educational organization (0.187), psychological and pedagogical support for successful development and training (0.129). The main meanings governing professional pedagogical activity are more focused on meta-skills based on the values of inclusion and continuous improvement of education, as well as on flexible skills (Soft skills) that increase competitiveness in various fields of pedagogical activity. In the vacancies of psychologists, professional skills (Hard skills) are relevant, applicable in specific areas, which somewhat narrows the scope of professional implementation. Conclusion. The results of the empirical study allow for considering job vacancy advertisements as one of the communicative tools of educational marketing. Analyzing the significant professional skills from the employer's perspective will enable the development of recommendations for the development of professional communication for teachers, which can be considered in the system of continuous professional education, as well as in regulating interaction within the educational environment. Automated analysis of job vacancies can become a successful interactive diagnostic tool for educational marketing, necessary for the development of the educational space and the improvement of the competitiveness of educational institutions.

Beyond the Blackboard: Unveiling the Diverse Career Landscape of Education Graduates

This tracer study aimed to investigate the demographic, academic, and employment profile of 202 Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) graduates of Northern Iloilo State University (NISU), Philippines from A.Y 2016-2019. This study employed a quantitative approach with data collected through a modified questionnaire modeled from the Philippines’ Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Graduate Tracer Study. The findings showed that most graduates passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers and worked full-time, however, were underemployed. Most graduates acquired their first job in less than a year, but not in the field of education. The respondents found learned skills in communication, knowledge and technical, leadership, human relations, and ICT useful in the workplace to a great extent. However, research and problem-solving skills were found to be useful to a moderate extent. Among the difficulties faced by BEED graduates in finding a job, the limited job vacancies in the teaching profession or the lack of positions or permanent items in public elementary schools was pointed out as a major problem. The university is recommended to establish a dedicated unit for conducting regular tracer studies, integrate it into the college's quality assurance system, and strengthen partnerships with local employment offices and the private sector to ensure job opportunities for graduates. The Teacher Education Department may review and enhance its curriculum to align with the current demands of the teaching profession in public and private schools, both for local and international employment.

Phillips meets Beveridge

The Phillips curve plays a central role in the macroeconomics literature. However, there is little consensus on the forcing variable that drives inflation in the model, i.e., on the appropriate measure of “slack” in the economy. In this work, we systematically assess the ability of variables commonly used in the literature to (i) predict and (ii) explain inflation fluctuations over time and across U.S. metropolitan areas. In particular, we exploit a newly constructed panel dataset with job openings and vacancy filling cost proxies covering 1982–2022. We find that the vacancy-unemployment (V/U) ratio and vacancy filling cost proxies outperform other slack measures, in particular the unemployment rate. Beveridge curve shifts—notably, movements in matching efficiency—are responsible for the superior performance of the V/U ratio over unemployment.

This study aims to determine the role and strategy of MSMEs in reducing poverty rates in Indonesia. This research approach collects data through literature studies, which involve reading literature from various sources including books, journals and reports using qualitative and deductive approaches. The findings in this study are that MSMEs play an important role in reducing poverty rates in Indonesia. There are several roles of MSMEs in reducing poverty rates, namely poverty reduction and poverty, economic empowerment, local economic growth, increasing income and consumption. In addition, there are several strategies in reducing poverty rates, namely building coworking spaces, collaborating with the Job Training Center (BLK) to provide free job training, providing job vacancy information through social media or job vacancy applications, conducting synergy collaborations with companies, and encouraging productive age people to enter the creative economy world such as social media.

The Influence of Open Unemployment Rates, Inflation and Minimum Wages on Income Inequality in The North Sumatra Region

Income inequality is the existence of differences in income in a society, giving rise to real income inequality in society. As a result, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. In fact, when it comes to income inequality, the more flexible wages are, the greater the impact on employment. However, inflexible wages, which are said to be an inability to respond to changing market conditions, lead to ever-increasing poverty and inequality. This research aims to determine the correlation between the influence of open poverty levels, inflation and minimum wages on income inequality in North Sumatra. The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that the level of expenditure disparity between residents in North Sumatra has widened since September 2023. The Gini ratio, which measures this inequality, is recorded as high. BPS Based on North Sumatra data, this large deviation was caused by the increase in fuel prices at the beginning of September last year. The research method used is Multiple Linear Regression which is processed using eviews 10 software. The approach used in this research uses a quantitative approach with associative analysis, with a population from the North Sumatra BPS report for 2014-2023. The results show that the open unemployment rate and minimum wage have an effect on income inequality. Therefore, the solution offered is a policy of establishing equal distribution of employment income by opening job vacancies and training as well as equal distribution of salary income which is applied evenly in various regions so as to reduce income inequality in North Sumatra
