trans-Iso-α-acids were isolated from a commercial isomerized hop extract by way of their dicyclohexylamine salts. Silylation of the iso-α-acids was accomplished by heating with hexamethyldisilazane in dimethoxypropane. The reaction mixture was analyzed on a gas chromatographmass spectrometer and evaluated for evidence of compound degradation. Preliminary results indicate that the derivatives are stable and that further research could illustrate gas chromatography-mass spectrometry as a viable method of iso-α-acid analysis.
