Gap Analysis of the Environmental Management System Performance of PT. XXX to ISO 14001:2015 Standard

PT. XXX is one of the oil and gas exploration companies in Indonesia operating in the Rokan Block of the Duri Steam Flood (DSF) Operation Area. To maintain the level of petroleum production in operation, PT. XXX DSF Operating Area adds oil and gas wells, improves, and improves operation reliability through upgrading several existing facilities; seen from the environmental setting at the current operational location, DSF's operational area activity plan has an impact on environmental components. To mitigate it, PT. XXX has developed an Environmental Management System (EMS) DSF Operating Area according to the international standard ISO 14001:2015. This quantitative descriptive research aims to determine the gap in QMS performance implemented by companies with ISO 14001: 2015 standards using seven clauses: Self-Assessment Checklist Internal Audit ISO 14001: 2015 GEMI 2015. To find out the Company's SML gap score with ISO 14001: 2015 standard is determined by the Gap Analysis method. The gap results from the 7 (seven) clauses analysed to show the readiness score of SML PT. XXX DSF operational to implement ISO 14001:2015 Standard is 98.83% refers to range gap analysis if the score range of 75% - 100% indicates PT. XXX DSF Operations is ready to complement EMS ISO 14001:2015 and carry out certification. The gap score between the Company's Environmental Management System (EMS) that is being implemented and the ISO 14001:2015 standard is 1.17%. The gap in clauses that have not met the requirements of SML ISO 14001: 2015 is Clause Support, which scores 95% and Clause Performance Evaluation, which scores 96%.

Benefit analysis of the implementation of Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015 in a tyres industry

Environmental management has an important role in PT. Elang Perdana Tyres Industry (PT. EPTI). The company has been implementing a standard of ISO 14001:2015 to implement its environmental management. Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015 implemented consistently and effectively, provides several benefits that can enhance environmental performance in the company. The objectives of this research are 1) to identify the benefits of the implementation of EMS ISO 14001:2015, and 2) to analyze the relationship between the benefits of the implementation of EMS ISO 14001:2015 and the environmental performance of EMS. Primary data was collected from field observations, interviews with respondents, and questionnaire surveys. Secondary data was obtained from company profile, and organizational structure, as well as documents of ISO 14001:2015. This research explained that the benefits of the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015 are enhancing company reputation, enhancing customer satisfaction, enhancing employee motivation, and reducing production costs. The main benefit for the company, based on the questionnaire result of 100 respondents determined from the Slovin formula, is enhancing the company's reputation (93 respondents). Besides, this research also explains that the implementation of EMS ISO 14001:2015 has a strong relationship with the environmental performance of EMS ISO 14001:2015 (coefficient of regression 0,717). Therefore, the benefits of the implementation of the Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001:2015 are enhancing company reputation, enhancing customer satisfaction, enhancing employee motivation, and decreasing production costs have a strong relationship with environmental performance EMS ISO 14001:2015 in PT. EPTI. Benefit analysis of the implementation of EMS ISO 14001:2015 is needed to inform the company about the importance of benefits that can be obtained for improving the implementation of EMS ISO 14001:2015. The benefits obtained by the company will attract and motivate the company to improve the performance of EMS ISO 14001:2015. Even these benefits will further motivate continuous improvement that has an impact on effective environmental management in reducing negative environmental impacts and supporting sustainable development as a whole.

Circular Economy Implementation Based on ISO 14001 within SME Organization: How to Do It Best?

The circular economy (CE) has become an important issue within the European Union due to the Green Deal regulations. A CE makes sustainable development feasible by creating value in the economy and by closing the energy and materials loops. The aim of the study is to predict the most effective functioning of CEs at the macro-level by the selection of the best possible requirements addressed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as an extension supplement of a voluntary environmental management system—ISO 14001. For such aim, researchers developed a two-stage Delphi study. According to the performed Delphi study, the main conclusion is that a more circular management system is possible and needed in SME organizations. Two ISO 14001 sub-requirements were considered as definitely contributing to the implementation of the CE concept at the macro- and meso-levels. Those were: The scope of the CE system and communication. The most discussed requirements that should be further studied in that context were internal audits and managerial reviews. The most difficult goals to implement by SMEs were: limiting the use of primary raw materials, striving for the implementation of climate neutrality and sustainable development as well as closing the material loop.

The Impact of Establishing Environmental Management System ISO 14001 on Performance

In recent years, many organizations have used management system certification such as the Environmental Management System (EMS). The purpose of present study is to assess the effect of Environmental Management System (ISO14001) on hospital performance. This is an applied (regarding the purpose of the study) and descriptive research and data are gathered through secondary (library) and primary (questionnaires) sources. This is applied and causal. After confirming the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, it was used for data collection. The research population includes hospital staff. This community was considered limited and therefore all the staff were studied. The results were analyzed using structural equation modeling with Smart-PLS software. In addition, the results indicate that three variables of environmental management system, environmental training of human sources, and environmental management program have a direct and significant effect on hospital performance.

Analisa Pelaksanaan Audit Lingkungan pada Industri Plastik Kemasan di PT. Emblem Asia

Emblem Asia is a plastic manufacturing company that is located in Karawang Industrial Area MM2100 Cikarang. The objective of this research is to analyze the implementation of environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 that is done by the company. The research was carried out in the period of February –July 2022. The analysis uses quantitative methods which focuses on gap analysis method. A questionnaire with 31 questions about employe performance regarding EMS implementation, which where arranged trough validity and reliability tests, was addressed trough the respondents for research purposes. For the calculation of gap analysis, the questionnaires where distributed to 31 respondents from various levels of office, which results in 20% gap. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that implementation of EMS in PT. Emblem asia was monitored according to the international standards for ISO 14001. Suggestions to improve the performance of implementing EMS ISO 14001:2015 are to maintain everything that has been achived in implementing EMS ISO 14001:2015.

Stakeholders’ perception model on environmental management system in Indonesia

The Environmental Management System (EMS) has an essential role in promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization to support climate change. However, it is considered to be less desirable by industries in Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has issued the Company Performance Rating Program in Environmental Management (PROPER) as a driving force for industries in Indonesia. The EMS ISO 14001 is an obligation in the PROPER assessment. This study aims to design a stakeholder perception model related to the ISO 14001 implementation. The method employed in the research is in-depth interviews with expert stakeholders. The result is a qualitative model of stakeholder perception, which shows that there is a relationship between motivations, costs, and benefits in the application of EMS. The perception of industries revealed that the cost of EMS implementation is greater than the gained benefits in the short term, yet more benefits are favored in the long-term. Therefore, government involvement is necessary to increase the motivation of industries in both the short-term and long-term. This study also revealed the key aspects to optimize EMS implementation in Indonesia.

Study and modeling of the innovation process of project-based learning activities in the training of engineers

Innovation is one of the driving forces of countries' economic and technological progress today. This key skill is at the heart of the engineer's profession and has been developed since initial training. Innovation must be fostered in engineering training establishments, through tools and methods that make it possible to organize and develop it. This work is part of improving innovation in engineering education. We have followed and studied the progress of projects carried out as part of the course "ISO14001 Environmental Management System", by engineering students in the third year of mechanical engineering at the National School of Electricity and Mechanics. In these activities, we have tried to highlight the different aspects of innovation in training. We used educational innovation tools when supervising students, and we integrated the notion of "Smart city" into the themes of the projects. This study made it possible to determine the main stages of the realization of an innovative project carried out by the students, as well as the elements framing these stages. Our goal is to achieve a systemic modeling of the innovation process in the training of engineers.

Evaluate the efficiency of the Environmental Management System Iso 14001:2015 at The Vietnam Onamba Company

Nowadays, the benefits of ISO 14001:2015 abound, for minimizing environmental footprints, providing operational improvements, bringing lucrative business and improving the company’s image. There is an annual audit to decide if the company’s environmental management system meets the requirements of ISO 14001:2015. This is a significant audit that strongly affects the current certificate. The study to “Evaluate the efficiency of the environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 at the Vietnam Onamba Company” has been conducted to research the internal audit and examine any discordance in the environmental management system. The study carries out the internal audit of the environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 at VTO company by 3P method (P1: Paper check, P2: People interview, P3: Practice Observe). The result of the study showed a minor discordance at (6.2) Environmental Objectives and planning to achieve them. Regarding other clauses, they meet the requirements of the environmental management system. The result shows that the responsibility and careful observation of the company in controlling the system. The study evaluates reducing consumption (electricity, water, and chemicals) through collecting and comparing the data between 2017 and 2018. The results show the efficiency of reducing consumption: monthly electricity consumption reduced 21,86% (377 MWh); monthly water usage reduced 17,89% (1421 m3); annual chemical usage reduced from 3 to 6%.

Competence of small medium enterprise employees to Implement ISO 14001:2015 (case study: laundry machine industry SME in Bantul Yogyakarta)

Small Medium Enterprises employees are the main executors in the implementation of standard in SME included the standard of environmental management system ISO 14001:2015. The success of this standard ISO 14001:2015 implementation is extremely determined by the competence of SME employees in understanding and implementing ISO 14001:2015 until the purpo se of implementation can be achieved such as reaching environmental targets, improving environmental performance, and fulfilling arrangement obligation. This research aims to see the competence of SME employees in the implementation of ISO 14001:2015 until the purpose of this standard ISO 14001:2015 implementation can be achieved. The method used in this research was quantitative research method. For this purpose, the research instruments were in the form of questionnaires designed and tested on SME employees. Data were processed statistically. The research results show that the competence of SME employees in the implementation of ISO 14001 is sufficient and above average. SME employees know the environmental target and environmental instruments in the implementation of ISO 14001:2015. Besides that, SME employees also understand environmental regulations and the management of waste produced by SME.

Concerning the relevance of ISO 14001 adoption in enterprises

The paper justifies the relevance of adopting an international standard of environmental management system ISO 14001 in Russian enterprises. The diffusion of the ISO certificates is viewed; the example of environmental management at a Russian enterprise is given. It is underlined that exporting enterprises gain a competitive advantage by adopting the standard.

Integration of UI Greenmetric performance measurement on ISO 14001 implementation in higher education

Increasing sustainability concern in the world, encouraging the growth of higher education participation. Many higher education institutions adopt Environmental Management System (EMS) ISO 14001 and UI GreenMetrcis performance measurement separately to achieve sustainability. The two systems have similar goal but different approach related to sustainability. The objective of this research is to integrate UI Greenmetric performance measurement on ISO 14001 implementation in higher education. The similarity goals of them, making the analysis of the using of UI GreenMetric performance measurement in the implementation of ISO 14001 EMS in higher education needs to be done. Based on that analysis, it is known the agreement level of relationship between EMS ISO 14001 and UI GreenMetric by using frequency analysis, as well as the level of their implementations in higher education through mixed method. The result is UI GreenMetric performance measurement can be used to implement ISO 14001 EMS, so that it can support the achievement of environmental performance in higher education.

Evaluation of Italian Companies' Perception About ISO 14001 and Eco Management and Audit Scheme III: Motivations, Benefits and Barriers

In recent decades the adoption of Environmental Management Systems, as frameworks for integrating corporate environmental protection policies and programs, started to become a growing practice among both domestic and multinational companies around the world. Therefore this research wants to present the results of an empirical survey carried out among Italian companies which are certified with the Environmental Management System ISO 14001 and the European Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The aim is to identify the type of companies that have implemented an EMS standard, to examine the motivations that have prompted them to introduce it, to state the benefits and barriers perceived and to evaluate differences and similarities between these two systems. The research was carried out through a questionnaire proposed to 1657 certified organizations and 190 companies participated. The Analysis of Variance; chi-test (χ2 test) and Pearson's correlation were used to analyze the items of motivations, benefits and barriers. The results of the survey show that EMAS certification seems to be strictly correlated to ISO 14001; in fact the majority of companies which operate in International markets have both standards; moreover companies of larger size opened up primarily to certification compared to those of smaller size and are prompted to certification for different reasons. Time also is a relevant discriminating factor. As for the analysis of perceived benefits and barriers, this showed an important relation of similarity between ISO 14001 and EMAS. The research gave the contribution on how to manage effectively the firm attention to environmental issues.

Sustainable Development and Competitive Advantages – Utilizing Matching to Overcome Sample Selection Bias

AbstractThis study investigates whether a firm can enhance its competitive advantages in intangible assets and financial performance by voluntarily obtaining the certification of environmental management system ISO 14001. Previous studies find mixed evidence for the effect of ISO 14001 certification on firm performance partly owing to sample selection bias. To overcome this bias, we utilize propensity score matching to find non‐certified firms that are comparable to certified firms. The evidence from our matching method suggests that ISO 14001 certified firms have higher values of intangible assets than non‐certified firms. Our study thus suggests that stakeholder engagement in firms' environmental management can be beneficial not only to the public, but also to shareholders. ANALISIS PENGARUH BUDAYA ORGANISASI, KOMPENSASI, DAN KEPUASAN KERJA TERHADAP TINGKAT TURNOVER KARYAWAN PT. YUASA BATTERY INDONESIA – TANGERANG

ABSTRACT PATH ANALYSIS OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE, COMPENSATION AND JOB SATISFACTION ON EMPLOYEES TURNOVER OF YUASA BATTERY INDONESIA, CO,-LTD.-TANGERANG. The study attempted to examine a phenomena and to gain empirical evident, as well as to get a brief data on the influence of organizational culture, compensation and job satisfaction on employee turnover. The study applied descriptive and inductive of multivariat regresion method it’s include 94 respondents as the samples. The samples were selected through proporsionate stratified sampling. The statistical tool were used is SPSS 17 software as the means to examine the data. The findings could be concluded as follows: (1) There was positive effect from all independent variables toward employee turnover within value influence 80,9%. (2) The results of this research indicated that job satisfaction was the greatest affecting to the employee turnover was as much as 59.1%. (3) Meanwhile there are positive influence of organizational culture was equal to 26.7%. (4) Then there are positive affecting of compensation was equal to 12.6%. Based on the analysis of the conclusions and implications of this research, there are several suggestions as follows:(1) Based on the calculation results of the questionnaire, organizational culture variables (X1) which consists of 4 dimensions and 12 indicators, dimensions of employee engagement have a presentation of the most low at 48.94%. It should be a concern for the company improve employee engagement as a problem-solving discussion, provides an opportunity to move forward, and so on. (2) The compensation variable (X2) consisting of 4 dimensions and 12 indicators, dimensions of the facility have a presentation that is equal to 51.33% lower. It should be a concern for the company improve employee facilities required such as parking areas, parks, sports facilities, so that employees feel comfortable in the company area. (3) The Job satisfaction variables (X3) which consists of 4 dimensions and 16 indicators, job security dimension has the lowest presentation that is equal to 52.38%. It is recommended that companies pay more attention to health and safety, and social security so employees do not feel anxious in doing the job.(4) The Turnover variable (Y) consisting of 4 dimensions and 13 indicators, dimensions of the work environment has a presentation of the work value that is equal to 53.19%. This is not apart from polluting production processes and pollution and generate waste hazardous and toxic material. Although the company has done with the implementation of an Environmental Management System ISO 14001 but is still expected to increase in the control of potential environmental pollution and threats, so that not only the employees in the company that would avoid the risk of pollution and contamination of the surrounding community but also will feel calm and do not disturb the existenceof the c ompany. Product return management: Linking product returns, closed-loop supply chain activities and the effectiveness of the reverse supply chains

The aim of this study is to examine the extent to which product returns motivate manufacturing firms to adopt closed-loop supply chain activities that influence the effectiveness of reverse supply chains. The hypotheses have been tested using data from a sample of 150 environmental management system ISO 14001 certified manufacturing firms in Malaysia through the census sampling approach. The results of the empirical test using LISREL Version 8.70 for the structural equation modeling support the fundamental explanation of the influence of the institutional forces towards the adoption of closed-loop supply chain activities and the effectiveness that can be reaped by the manufacturing firms from their adoption. These findings extend the prior research through the verification from the empirical survey on the importance of product returns in the adoption of closed-loop supply chain activities, which eventually impacts the firm’s effectiveness in the reverse supply chain. The findings also help managers to understand the factors that can improve the outcome of the adoption of closed-loop supply chain activities by intensifying the extent of involvement in product returns, which provides a valuable insight about a significant predictor of firm performance in reverse flow chains.

Environmental Management System ISO 14001 factors for promoting the adoption of Cleaner Production practices

The Environmental Management System of ISO 14001 stands out as one of the most widely used systems for managing corporate environmental aspects and processes and the Cleaner Production is a proactive environmental strategy that has remarkably positive results in environmental corporate management. The principal aim of this article was to identify and analyze the influence relations of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to the Cleaner Production through a survey-based research. The maturity and the phases of planning and discipline are key factors for the systematization and continuity of Cleaner Production practices. The stages of Planning, Evaluation and Feasibility Study, and Implementation were identified as the main stages of CP fostered by the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

The Relationship between ISO14001 Environmental Management System Certification and Banking Monitoring

법에 의한 환경규제만으로는 한계가 있기 때문에 기업의 자발적인 환경개선을 유도하기 위해 정부의 정책이 환경문제를 시장의 원리에 맡기고자 하는 방향으로 전환되어 가고 있고, 금융기관들이 산업계의 자발적인 친환경경영활동을 유도하고 동시에 금융기관의 수익성 개선을 고려하고자 하는 차원에서 친환경금융활동을 시도하고 있다. 환경문제가 시장메커니즘에 의해 해결되도록 하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 금융기관의 역할이 중요하며 친환경금융활동에 대한 금융기관의 적극적인 참여가 요구된다. 이러한 배경 하에서 본 연구에서는 금융기관이 차입자의 환경위험을 고려함으로써 ISO14001EMS인증이 기업의 부채조달 시 차입금이자율에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 검증하고자 하였다. 분석결과, ISO14001EMS인증을 받은 기업은 인증을 받지 않은 기업에 비하여 더 낮은 이자율을 부담하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 금융기관들이 환경위험 발생 가능성이 높은 산업에 대하여 특별한 모니터링과 함께 대출의사결정 시에 환경위험평가를 실제로 실행하고 있으며, ISO14001EMS인증여부가 환경위험평가의 중요한 요인으로 고려되고 있음을 입증하는 결과라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 환경문제를 시장의 원리에 의해 해결하고자 하는 정부의 환경정책 방향설정에 의미를 부여할 수 있으며, 환경성과가 좋은 기업에게 자원이 배분될 수 있도록 함으로써 산업계의 환경활동에 대한 자발적인 노력을 유인할 수 있는 계기가 되리라 생각된다. 또한 본 연구의 결과는 사회적 책임활동과 관련하여 규제기관이나 투자자의 의사결정에도 유용할 것이다.

Environmental management system ISO 14001: effective waste minimisation in small and medium enterprises in India

Numerous empirical and conceptual studies describe waste minimisation as a key environmental performance indicator for industry. ISO 14001certification in this regard is widely considered the tool of choice for driving waste minimisation efforts. To this day, however, the evidence remains mixed as it pertains to the effectiveness of ISO 14001 in helping firms reduce waste, especially in developing countries. This paper explores the waste minimisation efforts among Indian small and medium enterprises. Specifically, improvements in waste minimisation are analysed from small and medium enterprises operating in the cities of Delhi and Noida. Our proposed model is tested for a model-fit, and the hypotheses are tested through regression coefficient (β) scores to determine the influence of ISO 14001 on the degree of waste minimisation among certified and non-certified companies. The data reveal that ISO 14001 certification alone helped account for a 25% increase in waste minimisation in certified companies after controlling for other critical factors (correlated to the variable ‘waste minimisation’) that may influence this relationship. The analytical tools described in this paper lend themselves to be applied to similar research problems in future studies. The study provides baseline data for further research into ISO 14001 effectiveness in the Indian SME context – a field with still only limited research insights – and offers policy prompts for targeted environmental management improvements in Indian firms.
