The Relationship between Christian Education and Local Wisdom and Students' Negative Behavior in Gunungsitoli City, Nias Islands

This research is motivated by facts about students’ negative behavior or students’ negative behavior in Gunungsitoli City, Nias Islands, the occurrence of which fluctuates. Correlation research is useful for analyzing the relationship between a large number of variables in a study, which according to the results of the Normality Test in the One-Sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov table in the SPSS version 26 program shows that the significant value is 0.063 > 0.05, so the data is normally distributed. The data was obtained by distributing questionnaires to 548 respondents in 12 churches domiciled in 6 sub-districts of Gunungsitoli City. This research provides positive and significant results and expectations, both partially known in the Coefficients table in the SPSS version 26 program, where 133.996 > F table value of 2.44, meaning H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted). The magnitude of the relationship between variables X1 and student negative behavior or students’ negative behavior in Gunungsitoli City, Nias Islands. This means that another 24.9% comes from other factors not examined in this study.

Analysis of the readiness and potential of Nias Island tourist destination

Background: Nias Island has tourism potential that can be enjoyed by visiting tourists. This island is famous for hosting the World Surfing League (WSL). However, Nias Island is struggling with accessibility problems and facilities that are not up to standard, these problems need to be fixed to encourage tourist destinations on Nias Island. Therefore, this study aims to determine the potentials of Nias Island as a tourist destination and to provide solutions for Nias Island, especially in the areas of accessibility and facilities. Methods: This study uses a qualitative method. This study uses the observation method because it is in accordance with the events in the field. Findings: The results of this study are that Nias Island has a lot of tourism potential in the fields of nature, cultural heritage, and natural tourism products. Conclusion: There are several suggestions that can be made to improve the quality of tourist attractions on Nias Island in terms of accessibility (providing road signs) and facilities (improving cleanliness and maximizing existing facilities around tourist attractions). Novelty/Originality of this Study: The study on Nias Island’s tourism potential is novel in its comprehensive approach to addressing both the island's untapped natural and cultural attractions and the critical issues of accessibility and facility deficiencies. By providing targeted solutions to improve road signs, cleanliness, and the overall quality of tourist facilities, this research offers practical steps to transform Nias Island into a competitive and sustainable tourist destination.

Antibacterial, antioxidant and total flavonoid of Adenostemma lavenia (L.)

Adenostemma lavenia (L.) is one of the medicinal plants on Nias Island that is used to treat many symptoms including cough, fever and diarrhea. Empirical data of this plant suggests that these medicinal benefits can be attributed to its antibacterial and antioxidant properties, as well as the total flavonoids contained within it, but research on this is still limited. Adenostemma lavenia (L.) was extracted with ethanol, while the antibacterial properties were measured using the disc method. Antioxidant testing was conducted with the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-2picrihydrazyl) inhibition method. Total flavonoids were assessed using a modified AlCl3 method with a quercetin standard. Antibacterial test results of Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiela pneumoniae, Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus cereus and Shigella sonnei with mean inhibition were 8.76 ± 0.44, 8.13 ± 0.72, 8.77 ± 0.45, 6.47 ± 0.54, 7.77 ± 0.60, 7.33 ± 0.44, 12.06 ± 0.60 respectively. IC50 was 59.844 ± 3.36 ppm. Total flavonoids were 13.566 ± 0.021 mcg/g. The results of the antibacterial test of the ethanolic extract of Adenostemma lavenia (L.) were classified as moderate. The antioxidant activity and total flavonoids were in the high category, which can be attributed to the capture of free radicals to overcome disease.

Pemetaan Perubahan Permukaan Tanah di Kawasan Pulau Nias dengan Menggunakan Data Sentinel - 1A IW

The determination of changes in the land surface is an event caused by changes in the volume of the rock layer below. and geological processes such as tectonic and volcanic activity, removal of material from the subsurface such as mining and natural causes such as the occurrence of holes in limestone. The purpose of this study is to determine the magnitude of land surface changes that occur in the Nias Island area caused by earthquakes. The data used in the processing stage with the DinSAR method in 2022 recording, with specifications of dual polarization VV + VH, beam mode IW (interferometric wide) and flight direction ascending. Sentinel 1 data used in this study are 4 pairs of scans, where each pair of scans consists of one scans being the master and another scans being the slave. The master image is the SAR image before the earthquake, while the slave image is after the earthquake. The magnitude of land surface changes that occurred on Nias Island, based on the 2022 earthquake, the largest uplift was the earthquake on December 30, 2022, with a range of values (1.012042) mm with an area of 72,641,981 Hectares. The largest subsidence occurred in the earthquake on December 30, 2022, with a range of values ranging from (-1.373125) mm to (-1.235427) mm with an area of 61347,891 Hectares.

A Comparative Study Of Stomatal Characteristics of The Nine Pandanus Species From Nias Island, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia

AbstractThe identification of Pandanus species generally relies on morphological characteristics and requires confirmation from other identification features, such as stomata. A comparative study of stomatal characteristics among nine Pandan species originally from Nias Island, namely Pandanus atrocarpus, P. auranticus, P. labyrinthicus, P. militaris, P. odoratissimus, P. penangensis, P. tectorius, and P. utilis has been investigated. Anomocytic stomata without papillae on subsidiary cells were observed on both leaf surfaces, with significant interspecific differences in adaxial and abaxial stomatal frequencies. Pandanus tectorius exhibited the highest adaxial (30.71 ± 0.81) and abaxial (1.87 ± 0.12) stomatal frequencies. Pandanus labyrinthicus showed the highest stomatal index (adaxial 16.61 ± 2.51, abaxial 0.87 ± 0.11), while P. penangensis had the largest stomatal size (137.54 ± 6.66 µm). Overall, the stomatal parameters, including frequency, index, and size, were higher on the adaxial surface than the abaxial surface, emphasizing interspecific variations. These findings contribute valuable supportive data for the botanical systematics of Pandanus spp. in the region, enhancing our understanding of morphological characteristics crucial for species identification.AbstrakIdentifikasi jenis dari Pandanus cenderung menggunakan ciri morfologi dan memerlukan konfirmasi dari karakter lainnya, salah satunya stomata. Studi perbandingan stomata di antara sembilan spesies Pandan di Pulau Nias, Sumatera Utara telah dilakukan, yaitu Pandanus atrocarpus, P. auranticus, P. labirinthicus, P. militaris, P. odoratissimus, P. penangensis, P. tectorius, dan P. utilis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keseluruhan jenis Pandanus memiliki tipe stomata berupa anomositik pada kedua permukaan daun atau amfistomatous tanpa adanya papilosa pada sel tambahan. Frekuensi stomata adaksial dan abaksial memiliki perbedaan yang nyata secara statistik lintas jenis. Frekuensi stomata tertinggi pada daun adaksial/abaksial diamati berturut-turut dari P. tectorius (30,71 ± 0,81) dan P. tectorius (1,87 ± 0,12). Indeks stomata daun tertinggi diamati berturut-turut berasal dari P. labirinthicus (16,61 ± 2,51) untuk adaxial dan P. labirinthicus (0,87 ± 0,11) untuk abaxial. Ukuran stomata terbesar diamati berturut-turut berasal dari P. penangensis (137,54 ± 6,66 µm) dan P. odoratissimus (64,56 ± 3,96 µm). Secara umum, tipe stomata pada semua jenis adalah anomositik tanpa adanya papila pada sel penjaga. Parameter stomata lainnya, yaitu frekuensi, indeks, dan ukuran pada bagian adaksial cenderung lebih tinggi dibandingkan permukaan abaksial dengan variasi nilai secara interspesifik.

Nias Tribe Tradition as an Ideas in Creating Painting

The Maena dance, a cultural heritage from the Nias tribe on Nias Island, North Sumatra, Indonesia, is a traditional dance full of meaning and cultural values. This dance displays strong and dynamic movements, with dancers wearing traditional Nias clothing. Accompanying music, such as gondang, taganing, and tifa, creates a rhythm that strengthens the expression of the dance. The Maena dance depicts the strength, enthusiasm and unity of the Nias people. In this dance, vigorous war movements, high jumps symbolize courage, and expressive hand and eye movements express a variety of emotions. This dance is also used in various traditional ceremonies, cultural celebrations, and important moments in the lives of the Nias people. The Maena dance, as a source of creative ideas, inspires us to dig deeper into the cultural values and spirit of courage contained in this dance. Combining elements of Maena dance with modern art or developing new dances could provide a unique creative platform, celebrating Nias' cultural heritage while presenting a message of strength, unity and courage to today's generation.

Pembentukan Daerah Otonomi Baru: Pemekaran Provinsi Kepulauan Nias

Indonesia adheres to the principle of decentralization in administering its government. Each region has the right and is given the authority to manage its own government affairs. The granting of broad autonomy to the regions is directed at accelerating the realization of social welfare through service improvement, community empowerment and participation. Law No. 23 of 2014 wants the birth of a new autonomous region in Indonesia. The implementation mechanism is further regulated in Government Regulation No. 78 of 2007. Expansion of regions is one of the efforts to accelerate national development. The conditions that must be met in the expansion of the new autonomous regions include: 1) basic territorial requirements; 2) regional capacity requirements; and 3) administrative requirements. The Nias Islands are an area that has been planned to be split into a new autonomous region. The research method used is empirical juridical, namely research conducted to analyze the implementation of legal norms that apply in society. Discussions regarding the plan for regional division of the Nias Islands have started since 2009 but until now there has been no realization from the central government. The obstacle to the expansion of the division is the existence of a moratorium set by the President. Regional expansion is also considered to be a burden on state finances considering that apart from the Nias Islands, there are still many other regions that have also proposed to do division. However, when an area meets the requirements for expansion as stipulated in Government Regulation No. 78 of 2007 and there is an urgency why the area must be divided immediately. It is better if the moratorium is lifted so that each region that has met the requirements to carry out expansion can become a new autonomous region and become more developed because it is given the authority to manage its own region.

Techno-economic feasibility study of solar photovoltaic power plant using RETScreen to achieve Indonesia energy transition

Indonesia, a key player in the global energy transition, faces surging electricity demand and ambitious renewable energy goals. In response, the government introduced a new regulation about renewable energy tariffs, including tariffs for photovoltaic (PV). However, there remains a gap in the academic literature regarding PV power plant feasibility studies under these tariffs. To address this gap, this study investigates the feasibility of a utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Indonesia, focusing on the newly implemented renewable energy tariffs based on Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Indonesia's state-owned electricity company (PLN) perspectives. Five scenarios were developed based on the proposed 26 MW solar power plant on Nias Island utilizing RETScreen software. The results showed that based on the IPP perspective, the newly implemented renewable energy tariff was inadequate to make the project feasible, however, an introduction of a 10 USD/t CO2 emission incentive would make the project financially viable for IPPs. Therefore, it is recommended to introduce emission incentives as a strategic approach to attract investors and stimulate investment in Indonesia's PV power plants market, to accelerate Indonesia's energy transition. Conversely, the results also showed that the project is very profitable for PLN due to the significant cost-savings from the de-dieselization, leading to a reduction in the average generation cost for Nias.

The Nias Islands are an archipelago in the western part of North Sumatera, encompassed by the Indian Ocean, and have become a hotspot for demersal and pelagic fishes. These geographical conditions endow the waters around Nias with large fishery resources, leading to their frequent utilization as fishing grounds for Sumatera Island and its surrounding areas. This research aimed to identify the commercially important fish species with the highest catch frequency in the waters of Nias, and this identification marked the initial stage of the sustainable utilization of fish resources. The method used was DNA Barcoding using genes targeting the COI Mitochondrial locus. Therefore, 43 samples were collected from several North and South Nias fish landing sites. The obtained species were classified into 3 groups based on the commodity type: demersal fish, pelagic fish, and Choncricthyes. There were 8 species of demersal fish (Caesio caerulaurea, Halichoeres scapularis, Lethrinus ornatus, Mulloidichthys flavolineatus, Parupeneus barberinus, Scarus prasiognathos, Plectropomus leopardus, and Variola albimarginata), displaying genetic distances ranging from 0.002-0.275. Pelagic fish consisted of 5 species, namely Amblygaster clupoides, Caranx ignobilis, Caranx sexfasciatus, Ferdauia ferdau, and Scomberomorus commerson, displaying genetic distances ranging from 0.002-0.267. The next commodities were Chondrichthyes with 9 species (Carcharhinus sealei, Himantura leoparda, Neotrygon kuhlii, Paragaleus randalli, Pateobatis jenkinsii, Rhynchobatus cf laevis, Spyrna lewini, Taeniura meyeni, and Urogymnus granulatus), displaying genetic distance ranging from 0-0.271. This value indicates that migratory species such as chondrichthyes have quite extensive movements so that the genetic distance between species and between populations tends to be low.

Penerapan Metode Pembelajaran Problem Solving Dalam Meningkatkan Minat Belajar Siswa Di SMP N.1 Hiliserangkai - Nias

This research is motivated by the reality of the learning situation in the classroom where students cannot learn well due to the use of monotonous learning methods from teachers. The purpose of this research is to increase students' interest in learning by using the problem solving learning method. The method used in this research is qualitative with case study research. The results of this study are first, there is an increase in interest in learning caused by the use of problem solving methods. Second, students are increasingly active in the learning process. Third, some teachers have not maximized the use of problem solving methods, which results in less than optimal learning quality. The conclusion of this study is that the problem solving method needs to be implemented by teachers at SMPN 1 Hiliserangkai (Nias Island) so that more students are interested in learning, in addition to other methods that are more varied and interactive.

Teachers' perceptions of Merdeka curriculum development in Nias

This research aims to explore teachers' perceptions of the development of the Merdeka Curriculum on Nias Island. Using a qualitative approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews with a number of teachers in schools on Nias Island. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns and key themes that emerged from conversations with teachers. The results of the study highlighted the different views, challenges and expectations of teachers regarding the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings provide valuable insights into how educators in the region are responding to and managing the dynamics of the development of the new curriculum. The implications of the findings of this study are expected to provide guidance for improving the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Nias Island and similar areas.

Analysis of Factors that Influence APBD Revenues in Regencies/Cities across the Nias Islands

This study aims to determine how much influence per capita GRDP, education level, and health level have on district/city APBD revenues throughout the Nias archipelago in 2012 - 2022. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative. The data used is secondary data. This research is a panel data study with the panel data regression analysis method carried out with Eviews 12.0. The results showed that per capita GRDP, education level, and health level variables had a positive effect on district/city APBD revenues for the Nias archipelago in 2012 – 2022.

 Abstract. Utilization of information technology is the behavior of technology employees with their duties, measurement, based on frequency of use in the diversity of applications used. Information technology is the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, especially software applications and computer hardware. Lack of use of information technology in the PT area. Taspen (Persero) Nias Islands Branch Office causes obstacles related to information, rights and obligations for Taspen participants, especially for participants who have entered the Retirement Age Limit. Because this obstacle often becomes a problem for a company, where when participants do not know their rights as Taspen participants, the company will be involved in the investigation process for Taspen participants who have obstacles or obstacles in managing their rights. This research aims to find out how information technology is used by participants at PT Taspen (Persero) Nias Islands Branch Office. Based on the research results, it was concluded that PT Taspen (Persero) Nias Islands Branch Office had taken significant steps in utilizing Information Technology (IT) to overcome the obstacles faced by retired participants, such as device non-uniformity, limited digital literacy, and electricity stability problems. However, there are still several challenges that need to be overcome. Improving participants' understanding of applications and web portals, as well as improvements in technical aspects and data security policies, is essential. Outreach and education are key in helping participants, especially older ones, understand the full benefits of IT in managing their retirement. Efforts to improve customer service with faster responses are also needed. With an ongoing commitment to increasing participants' technological understanding, improving the onboarding process, and maintaining strict data security standards, PT. Taspen (Persero) Nias Islands Branch Office can maximize the benefits of IT, provide a positive experience for participants, and maintain a high level of trust in the company.
 
 
 
 

Fishing Ground and Primary Production Analysis Based on DNB SNPP-VIIRS and Aqua-MODIS Imagery in Mentawai Island and Nias Waters

The study of fishing grounds in coastal areas is part of fisheries management activities, especially capture fisheries by coastal fishermen. The absence of GPS, AIS and VMS systems on traditional fishing boats causes difficulties in monitoring the fishing grounds (FG) of coastal fishermen in the waters of Nias Island and Mentawai Islands. The objectives of this study to assess the fishing ground area and analyse its seasonal variability based on fishing light boats (FLB) from the DNB SNPP-VIIRS satellite imagery and the primary productivity condition in FG area from Aqua-MODIS imagery in the Nias Island and Mentawai Islands waters. FG is determined based on the clustering point density method, and statistical correlation analysis. Based on the FLB imagery (2015-2020), peak season fishing operation occurred twice a year in January/February and June/July, while the lowest fishing season occurs in April and October. In general, there are four main locations of fishing grounds in the study area, i.e Sibolga waters, Batu Islands, Mentawai Island and West Sumatra coastal. The FLB can describe the location of FG spatial and temporally, and it was correlated with the bathymetry and chlorophyll-a concentration rather than primary production in the waters of Nias Island and Mentawai Islands. Spatial and temporally distribution the fishing grounds and its density change by seasonal and inter-annual variations. The lowest conditions occurred in 2016 and the highest in 2019 which were each influenced by the nIOD and pIOD phenomena.

Nias Islands expansion urgency through top-down strategy in Indo-Pacific and the Indian Ocean

The expansion of Nias Islands Province is the desire of the political community. However, until now, the expansion effort has not received central government approval. Threats to the region can come from a variety of sources and forms, including internal conflicts, transnational conflicts, and military threats. This research aims to analyze the urgency of the expansion of Nias Islands through a top-down strategy, considering national threats and strategic factors. The research method used was an analytical descriptive approach with a qualitative type of research. Data were obtained through interviews and observations, as well as primary and secondary data relevant to the expansion of Nias Islands Province. The results show the urgency of the expansion of Nias Islands involving a top-down strategy by considering threat factors and national strategic policies. The relevance of the formation of Nias Islands Province can be seen from geographical, geopolitical, and demographic factors. The readiness of this region to become a New Autonomous Region (DOB) is reflected in agreements between regional heads, infrastructure availability, and financial support during the transition. The central government needs to understand that the expansion of Nias Islands is not only a local need but also a strategic step in maintaining national security and stability.

Local Wisdom of Nias Island Community Facing the Earthquake and Tsunami

This article describes the forms of local wisdom of the people of Nias Island in dealing with the natural disasters of the earthquake and tsunami. Nias Island, which is located on the west coast of Sumatra, is one of the islands included in the Eurasian plate fault in the Indian Ocean, which has periodically shaken due to earthquake shocks, which are sometimes accompanied by tsunami waves. To anticipate the impact of the earthquake and tsunami, the Nias community has several of local wisdom by building traditional houses to live in hilly areas that are located far from the seaside.

Genetic Diversity of Durian (Durio zibethinus Murr.) from North and South Nias using Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR)

Durian is a tropical fruit that has economic value for Nias Island especially in North and South Nias. Anthropogenic activity already occured in Nias and caused disturbance resulting in destruction and extinction of various durian. The aim of the research was to analyzed the genetic diversity of Durian from North and South Nias using SSR primers namely: Dz844, DzGCCG01, DzGCAG01, and DzMTb021. Total DNA was successfully isolated from 20 accessions. The DNA was successfully amplified resulting in DNA alleles sizing from 170-1100 bp. All primers showed 33 alleles with 28 polymorphic bands. The DNA profile were further analyzed with Ntsys which showed that 20 accession has coefficient of similarity 0.66-0.94 and clustered into nine groups at the similarity coefficient of 0.80. The research showed that the ninth accession of durian from North and South Nias has a high genetic diversity.

Lowalangi Deity in Nias Community Traditions Reviewed from the Perspective of Christian Faith

Understanding God's name is a sacred thing for Christians, so placing God's name in Christian life gives it different meanings without eliminating its substance. One example is the change of God's name in the Nias ethic, which became an event and was a grafting of a name from a cultural perspective to a theological one. This is related to the name of God from Deitas Lowalangi which is one of the names of ethical figures on the island of Nias who is used as a synonym for the name of God. If you look at it, there are actually many other name deities that are choices for God's name. And this is the topic of discussion in this article and its application to the lives of the people of Nias today. This research was carried out by means of literature studies and interviews with several Nias ethnic figures who were sources, both intellectuals and traditional figures and servants of God. The aim of writing this article is that the essence of the name Lowalangi is not just changing the name to God but has a deep meaning without any interference from the name of the god worshiped by the Nias ethnic group, as well as strengthening the faith of the Nias Christian people in actualizing the name of God in religious and cultural life. Through understanding the name of God from the Nias ethnic perspective, that the true name of God is implemented correctly and on a Biblical basis. The connection between the name of God in the Nias ethnic group is only limited to the name adopted by missionaries to straighten out the faith of Christians on Nias Island. Because no other Lowalangi name is misused by Christians in any worship. Because what must be worshiped is the real Lowalangi in the Bible, not Lowalangi because it is based on the name of a traditional figure, god or ancestor.
