Comparative Study of Marketed Samples of Svarnamakshika Bhasma an Ayurvedic Medicinal preparation, using XRF and XRD Analysis

Svarnamakshika Bhasma is an Ayurvedic medicinal preparation widely used by Ayurvedic practitioners for the management of various ailments. Svarnamakshika Bhasma needs to be prepared from Svarnamakshika, a mineral product identified and defined as Chalcopyrite (CuFeS2) in Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia of India (API). Minimum quantities of Iron, Copper and Sulfur, the three major elements necessary to be present in the Svarnamakshika (chalcopyrite), are prescribed as Pharmacopeial quality standard in the API monograph. Since included in the API, it is mandatory for the manufacturer to use Svarnamakshika (chalcopyrite) as specified in the API for preparation of Svarnamakshika Bhasma. However, it is generally observed that Svarnamakshika (chalcopyrite) complying with the standards prescribed by API is rarely found used for preparation of Svarnamakshika Bhasma. On this background seven samples of Svarnamakshika Bhasma comprising five marketed and two prepared by research scholars along with two samples of raw Svarnamakshika collected from research scholars were analysed in this study by using XRF and XRD analysis. The study indicates that only one marketed sample appears to have been prepared using Svarnamakshika (chalcopyrite) of pharmacopeial standard prescribed by API.

Treatment of Ferruginous Water in the Performance of Drip Irrigation Systems

One of the most important advantages of drip irrigation is the possibility of achieving a high uniformity of water distribution. However, this uniformity can be reduced when using water with high iron content, which can cause drippers to clog. This study aimed to verify the efficiency of the chlorination, aeration, decantation and filtration processes carried out to remove the iron from irrigation water and to investigate the effect of iron on water distribution uniformity. Four similar irrigation systems with five models of drippers were installed. The results showed that (i) there was a significant difference in the drippers’ behavior in relation to susceptibility to clogging when using water with a high iron content; (ii) the use of disk filters alone was not able to promote significant reductions in the iron quantity as a way to prevent the clogging of drippers; and (iii) the use of aerators followed by sedimentation tanks made it possible to achieve a considerable improvement in the water application uniformity for drippers that were more sensitive to clogging caused by the use of water with high iron content.

Magnesium and silicon recovery from chrysotile asbestos waste of the deposit Zhitikara, Kazakhstan

Waste generated during asbestos manufacturing contains substantial quantities of iron, nickel, magnesium, and silicon. The existing techniques for processing chrysotile-asbestos waste (CAW) cannot fully recover these elements. Therefore this paper presents a hydrometallurgical method for processing the CAW of the Zhitikara deposit in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan. Batch reactors are used in both laboratory and pilot experiments, and initial trials are conducted in a recently constructed industrial Ti reactor at the Kostanay Minerals JSC plant in the Kostanay region of Zhitikara. The primary benefits of the industrial reactor include operation without excessively grinding the feedstock and creation of a pulp with enhanced filtration properties. A moderate agitation speed (10 rpm) helps ensure a consistent pulp density and prevent the production of silica gel. Optimal leaching conditions are determined as a fraction size of CAW between − 1.25 and 0.25 mm, hydrochloric acid concentration of 18 wt%, temperature of ~ 85–90 °C, pressure of 1 atmosphere, and duration of 2 h. An investigation of the process kinetics reveals that diffusion is the rate-controlling step. Further, the activation energies are determined to be 54.4 kJ.mol− 1, and the leaching rates of Mg, Fe, and Ni under these conditions are 96.0, 87.8, and 81.3%, respectively. Washing and recycling water enhances helps to increase the recovery of magnesium chloride. Implementing pilot-scale hydrometallurgical processing of CAW can effectively address environmental issues that pose a threat to human health and provide commercial advantages.

Evaluation of Phytoconstituents, Nutritional Quality, and In Vitro Biological Activities of Red Rice Ethanolic Extract from Different Regions of Chiang Rai and Phayao

Red rice, a pigmented rice, is a staple food in Thailand that has beneficial biological properties for the consumer. The objective of this research was to assess the phytochemical composition, macro- and micro-nutritional quality, as well as the anti-glycation and in vitro antioxidant properties of three planting sites located in Chiang Rai and three planting sites located in Phayao. Raw red rice was extracted with 70% ethanol, and the phytoconstituents were evaluated using colorimetric analysis and HPLC techniques. The antioxidant activity, ROS production, lipid peroxidation, and in vitro anti-glycation properties were examined. According to the results, the greatest levels of total phenolic and total flavonoid contents were detected in CRR1 and PYR1. The amounts of fat, protein, fiber, and carbohydrates were comparable in red rice extracts. The PYR3 had the greatest quantities of iron and zinc, whereas the CRR3 had the highest levels of magnesium and potassium. The CRR1 and PYR1 had the highest amounts of vitamin E compounds and γ-oryzanol. Additionally, CRR1 and PYR1 had greater antioxidant capacities in comparison to the other red rice extracts. In the RAW264.7 macrophage cell, it was demonstrated that CRR1 and PYR1 prevented the generation of AGE at higher concentrations and had the strongest inhibitory effects on linoleic acid peroxidation and ROS production. The study's findings offered additional valuable sources of red rice from Chiang Rai and Phayao, giving consumers the option to choose red rice as beneficial for their health.

Micronutrient Intake during Complementary Feeding in Very Low Birth Weight Infants Comparing Early and Late Introduction of Solid Foods: A Secondary Outcome Analysis.

Background/Objectives: The complementary feeding period is crucial for addressing micronutrient imbalances, particularly in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. However, the impact of the timing of solid food introduction on micronutrient intake in a representative VLBW population remains unclear. Methods: This prospective, observational study investigated micronutrient intake during complementary feeding in VLBW infants categorized based on whether solids were introduced early (<17 weeks corrected age (CA)) or late (≥17 weeks CA). Nutritional intake was assessed using a 24 h recall at 6 weeks CA and with 3-day dietary records at 12 weeks and at 6, 9, and 12 months CA. Results: Among 218 infants, 115 were assigned to the early group and 82 to the late group. In total, 114-170 dietary records were valid for the final analysis at each timepoint. The timepoint of solid introduction did not affect micronutrient intake, except for a higher iron and phosphorus intake at 6 months CA in the early group (early vs. late: iron 0.71 vs. 0.58 mg/kg/d, adjusted p-value (p-adj.) = 0.04; phosphorus 341 vs. 286 mg/d, p-adj. = 0.04). Total vitamin D, calcium, zinc, and phosphorus greatly met intake recommendations; however, dietary iron intake was insufficient to equalize the iron quantity from supplements during the second half year CA. While nutrient intakes were similar between infants with and without comorbidities, breastfed infants had lower micronutrient intakes compared with formula-fed infants. Conclusions: This study suggests that micronutrient intakes were sufficient during complementary feeding in VLBW infants. However, prolonged iron supplementation may be necessary beyond the introduction of iron-rich solids. Further research is essential to determine micronutrient requirements for infants with comorbidities.

A hybrid, nonlinear programming approach for optimizing passive shimming in MRI.

In magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), maintaining a highly uniform main magnetic field (B0) is essential for producing detailed images of human anatomy. Passive shimming (PS) is a technique used to enhance B0 uniformity by strategically arranging shimming iron pieces inside the magnet bore. Traditionally, PS optimization has been implemented using linear programming (LP), posing challenges in balancing field quality with the quantity of iron used for shimming. In this work, we aimed to improve the efficacy of passive shimming that has the advantages of balancing field quality, iron usage, and harmonics in an optimal manner and leads to a smoother field profile. This study introduces a hybrid algorithm that combines particle swarm optimization with sequential quadratic programming (PSO-SQP) to enhance shimming performance. Additionally, a regularization method is employed to reduce the iron pieces' weight effectively. The simulation study demonstrated that the magnetic field was improved from 462 to 3.6ppm, utilizing merely 1.2kg of iron in a 40cm diameter spherical volume (DSV) of a 7T MRI magnet. Compared to traditional optimization techniques, this method notably enhanced magnetic field uniformity by 96.7% and reduced the iron weight requirement by 81.8%. The results indicated that the proposed method is expected to be effective for passive shimming.

An Insight in to Cadaveric Ectopic Calcification: A Case Report

Abstract: Pathological Calcification is an anomalous accumulation of calcium salts along with minimal quantities of iron, magnesium and other minerals in bodily tissues except teeth and bone causing hardening of the affected tissues. The location of the calcification and the presence or absence of mineral balance can be used to categorize it. The atypical mineral deposition processes in biological systems can sometimes be referred to as pathological calcification. During the routine dissection in National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur it was observed that numerous pathological calcifications were present both on osseous and extra osseous sites which were different from the normal human anatomy. The subject was a 90-year-old male of North Indian origin. Case examples illustrate different types and locations of calcification, shedding light on the anatomical distribution and potential clinical relevance.

Inhibition of Metal-Polyphenol Complex in Tea Fortified with Encapsulated Iron

Fortifying tea with iron faces the formation of a blue complex between iron and polyphenols. These technical challenges were circumvented by encapsulating iron sulphate with walls of whey proteins and Eudraguard via spray drying. Three types of capsules were generated based on the quantity of enclosed iron, 5.1, 7.7, or 10.0 mg; the quantity of iron is proportional to the complex formation. The encapsulation process enhanced iron absorption by 73% compared to free iron. The iron-polyphenol complex formation in gallic acid and black tea solution was studied. The complex formation in two buffers, 2-(N-Morpholino)ethane sulfonic acid (MES), and [piperazine-N, N′-bis(2-ethanesulfonic acid)] (PIPES), in two pH, 5.5 and 6.6, and the situations of buffered and unbuffered gallic acid in 0.3 mM ferrous sulphate solution was analyzed. The most stable solutions were gained with gallic acid in MES at pH 5.5 and 6.6 and PIPES at 6.6.

The Monitoring of Accumulations of Elements in Apple, Pear, and Quince Fruit Parts

In this study, the distribution of biogenic macro and micro element contents in the peel, pulp, and seeds of some cultivated fruits was observed. The element concentrations of these fruits, which have high commercial value and consumption in the world, were analyzed with ICP-OES. In the “Golden” and “Starking” apple varieties, the lowest and highest calcium amounts were detected in the pulp and seed parts of the fruits, respectively. Additionally, the lowest and highest calcium amounts of pear and quince fruits were found in the seed and pulp and peel and seed parts of the fruits, respectively. Potassium amounts of “Golden” and “Starking” apple parts were established to be between 3585.82 (seed) and 3930.87 mg/kg (pulp) and 3533.82 (peel) and 5671.55 mg/kg (pulp), respectively. Potassium amounts of pear and quince fruit parts were measured to be between 2340.65 (seed) and 5405.97 mg/kg (pulp) and 4455.23 (seed) and 8551.12 mg/kg (pulp), respectively. Iron quantities of the parts of “Golden” and “Starking” apple fruits were established from 4.80 (pulp) and 17.14 mg/kg (seed) to 7.80 (pulp) and 14.53 mg/kg (peel), respectively. While the Fe quantities of pear fruit parts are found to be between 4.51 (pulp) and 15.40 mg/kg (peel), the Fe contents of the parts of quince fruits were determined to be between 5.59 (pulp) and 27.27 mg/kg (peel). Zinc quantities of the parts of pear and quince fruits were recorded to be between 8.43 (pulp) and 12.71 mg/kg (seed) and 0.96 (pulp) and 37.82 mg/kg (seed), respectively. In fruit parts, the highest element was found in the seed, followed by pulp and peel in decreasing order.

Iron homeostasis, recycling and vulnerability in the stressed kidney: A neglected dimension of iron-deficient heart failure.

The available evidence suggests that the kidney may contribute importantly to the development of an iron deficiency state in patients with heart failure and may be injured by therapeutic efforts to achieve iron repletion. The exceptional workload of the proximal renal tubule requires substantial quantities of iron for ATP synthesis, which it derives from Fe3+ bound to transferrin in the bloodstream. Following ferrireduction, Fe2+ is conveyed by divalent transporters (e.g. DMT1) out of the endosome of the proximal renal tubule, and highly reactive Fe2+ can be directed to the mitochondria, sequestered safely in a ferritin nanocage or exported through the actions of hepcidin-inhibitable ferroportin. The actions of ferroportin, together with transferrin endocytosis and DMT1-mediated transport, play a key role in the recycling of iron from the tubular fluid into the bloodstream and preventing the loss of filtered iron in the urine. Activation of endogenous neurohormonal systems and proinflammatory signalling in heart failure decrease megalin-mediated uptake and DMT1 expression, and increase hepcidin-mediated suppression of ferroportin, promoting the loss of iron in the urine and contributing to the development of an iron deficiency state. Furthermore, the failure of ferroportin-mediated efflux at the basolateral membrane heightens the susceptibility of the renal tubules to cytosolic excesses of Fe2+, causing lipid peroxidation and synchronized cell death (ferroptosis) through the iron-dependent free radical theft of electrons from lipids in the cell membrane. Ferroptosis is a central mechanism to most disorders that can cause acute and chronic kidney disease. Short-term bolus administration of intravenous iron can cause oxidative stress and is accompanied by markers of renal injury. Experimentally, long-term maintenance of an iron-replete state is accompanied by accelerated loss of nephrons, oxidative stress, inflammation and fibrosis. Intravenous iron therapy increases glomerular filtration rate rapidly in patients with heart failure (perhaps because of a haemodynamic effect) but not in patients with chronic kidney disease, and the effects of intravenous iron on the progression of renal dysfunction in the long-term trials - AFFIRM-AHF, IRONMAN and HEART-FID - have not yet been reported. Given the potential role of dysregulated renal iron homeostasis in the pathogenesis of iron deficiency and the known vulnerability of the kidney to intravenous iron, the appropriate level of iron repletion with respect to the risk of acute and chronic kidney injury in patients with heart failure requires further study.

Biocompatibility and acid resistance of preformed crowns in children: an in vitro study

PurposeTo investigate the in vitro biocompatibility of human gingival fibroblasts with preformed paediatric crowns and resistance to acid exposure at levels that simulate the oral environment.MethodsThis laboratory study investigated primary HGFs viability, metabolic activity, cytotoxicity, and apoptotic events on preformed metal crown discs, composite resin-coated wells, and monolithic zirconia fragments at 24, 48, and 72 h using the ApoTox-Glo Triplex assay. The PPCs were also immersed in 0.1% lactic acid, 0.2% phosphoric acid, or 10% citric acid for 7 days at 37 °C to reproduce conditions associated with dietary intake or gastric reflux. Samples were then subject to inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry to quantitate the release of ions.ResultsThe viability of HGFs on stainless steel and CR significantly declined at 48 and 72 h, representing potential cytotoxicity (p < 0.05). Cytotoxicity of HGFs was also higher for stainless steel and ZR compared to control (p < 0.05). PMCs and ZR crowns gave minimal ion release. Meanwhile, significant quantities of metallic ions, including copper (Cu), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn), were present in eluates from veneered-preformed metal crowns.ConclusionAs PPCs can be exposed to highly acidic environments for many years, thus the release of metallic ions from V-PMCs should form the further investigation in future studies.

Electrical Structure between the Main and Eastern Deposits of the Bayan Obo Mine: Results from Time-Domain CSEM Methods

Bayan Obo is a well-known polymetallic deposit containing significant quantities of rare earth elements, niobium, thorium, and iron. However, the epoch in which mineralization occurred and the mineralization process are still debated due to the complex nature of its mineralization and geological evolution. Inadequate geophysical exploration has further contributed to this lack of clarity surrounding critical issues, such as the deep link between the main orebody and the eastern orebody, the form and distribution of the extensive dolomite, and the geologic structures in the area. Therefore, we implemented the time-domain controlled-source electromagnetic method (CSEM) to acquire electrical structures at depths down to 2.5 km between the Main and Eastern mines. According to the inverted resistivity structure, in conjunction with existing geological and drilling data, we classified the main lithologies and faults based on their resistivity characteristics. Overall, the mineralized carbonatite reflects high to moderately high resistivity. The mineralized carbonatite dips overall from north to south, with a maximum extension depth not exceeding 1.5 km, and its range of occurrence is controlled by nearly east–west-striking faults distributed along the bounding line between the roof and floor rocks. The Main and Eastern mines are connected at depth, but the morphology and position of the ore bodies have significantly changed due to multiple phases of tectonic activity. The electrical structure does not reveal any obvious syncline structures, further refuting the traditional view that the Bayan syncline controls ore formation.

Cable bacteria delay euxinia and modulate phosphorus release in coastal hypoxic systems.

Cable bacteria are long, filamentous bacteria with a unique metabolism involving centimetre-scale electron transport. They are widespread in the sediment of seasonally hypoxic systems and their metabolic activity stimulates the dissolution of iron sulfides (FeS), releasing large quantities of ferrous iron (Fe2+) into the pore water. Upon contact with oxygen, Fe2+ oxidation forms a layer of iron(oxyhydr)oxides (FeOx), which in its turn can oxidize free sulfide (H2S) and trap phosphorus (P) diffusing upward. The metabolism of cable bacteria could thus prevent the release of H2S from the sediment and reduce the risk of euxinia, while at the same time modulating P release over seasonal timescales. However, experimental support for this so-called 'iron firewall hypothesis' is scarce. Here, we collected natural sediment in a seasonally hypoxic basin in three different seasons. Undisturbed sediment cores were incubated under anoxic conditions and the effluxes of H2S, dissolved iron (dFe) and phosphate (PO4 3-) were monitored for up to 140 days. Cores with recent cable bacterial activity revealed a high stock of sedimentary FeOx, which delayed the efflux of H2S for up to 102 days. Our results demonstrate that the iron firewall mechanism could exert an important control on the prevalence of euxinia and regulate the P release in coastal oceans.

Mechanism of Action and Validation of the Traditional Medicinal use of Grewia Tenax Fruits in Sudan to Encounter Iron Deficiency Anemia

Introduction: In Sudan, Grewia tenax fruits, are known commonly as Goddaim. The fruit’s pericarp is used traditionally for a long time as a juice or a porridge to treat iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Traditional Goddaim users have a very strong belief in its effectiveness. However, the pattern of hemoglobin improvement follows an initial fast increase followed by a decline upon continuing its use. Some previous studies have attributed its effect to high iron content, while the iron quantity was too small. This work attempts to find an explanation for its mechanism of action by screening the fruit extract and its respective fractions for secondary metabolites, minerals, vitamins, and fibre. Methods: Entailed three methodologies: Chemical analysis to identify quantified minerals, ascorbic acid and non-digestible fibers, Phytochemical Analysis to separate and identify secondary metabolites using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS-MS technique), and estimation of radical scavenging activities of crude fruit extract and its respective chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions by inhibition of the 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl (DPPH). Results: Ascorbic acid and indigestible fibres were revealed in the aqueous extract. Secondary metabolites were flavonoids (e.g., quercetin, kaempferol), organic acids (e.g., ferulic acid, chlorogenic acid), β-carboline alkaloids (e.g., 3-hydroxy-tetrahydroharman) identified in the chloroform, and ethyl acetate fractions. The in vitro antioxidant activity of G. tenax fruit extract was confirmed spectrophotometrically. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the initial enhancement of iron absorption through ascorbic acid and fibres, followed by iron uptake inhibition, could be explained by iron chelation by the chelators in the fruits. This paradoxical effect may qualify G. tenax fruits as a safety gauge for improving haemoglobin levels without compromising iron excess once iron stores are filled by keeping the oxidative stress in check. This may present G. tenax fruits as a good and safe remedy that optimizes the treatment of IDA.

Re-evaluating stoichiometric estimates of iron valence in magmatic clinopyroxene crystals

Clinopyroxene is a major rock forming mineral capable of incorporating diverse metal cations. As a consequence, clinopyroxene preserves valuable archives of magmatic processes. Understanding clinopyroxene is thus essential for understanding Earth’s wider chemical evolution. However, knowledge about the relative abundances of ferrous and ferric iron in magmatic clinopyroxene remains sparse because it is not currently possible to routinely measure the valence of iron in clinopyroxene crystals without either separating single crystals for bulk analysis or securing access to Mössbauer spectroscopy or a synchrotron radiation source to perform in-situ microanalysis. This is despite magmatic clinopyroxene crystals often containing appreciable quantities of ferric iron that affect its stability and behaviour in currently ill-constrained ways and limit our ability to exploit its chemistry to robustly reconstruct conditions of magma storage and evolution. Here we integrate optimised electron probe microanalysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy on endmember and single-crystal clinopyroxene samples to re-evaluate previously discredited approaches for estimating clinopyroxene ferric iron contents by stoichiometry. This research became necessary to show how plants grown surrounding waste dumps are able to mitigate soil pollution by Fe and Sb. Both media (plants and soils) were collected, and leached, and analyses were performed to assess the quantum of Iron and Antimony found within sampled media. The EDX3600B X-ray fluorescence spectrometer was used to analyze for soil and plants sampled. The bioconcentration factor (BCF), translocation factor (TF), bioaccumulation coefficient (BAC), and metal uptake efficacy (%) ME for both media were calculated. The evaluated data revealed that Colocasia esculent and Amaranthus viridis showed the maximum capacity as Fe hyperaccumulators. Also, Colocasia asculenta, Physalis angulate, and Zea mays were suitable plants as hyperaccumulators of Sb. Only Loportea aestuans suffices as phytoextractor for Antimony. Amaranthus hybridus, Colocasia asculenta, and Corchorus aestuans have capacities to stabilize Sb in soils. Species collected showed the required ability as phytominers of Sb. The quantities of Iron and Antimony in acquired media were higher than allowable benchmarks in leaves (vegetables). From this investigation, the acquired plants showed evidence of good specimens with abilities to remove Iron and Antimony from the soil. The collected species also showed attributes and characteristics of good reservoirs of Iron and Antimony.

Hypoxia Aggravates Neuron Ferroptosis in Early Brain Injury Following Subarachnoid Hemorrhage via NCOA4-Meditated Ferritinophagy.

The occurrence of early brain injury (EBI) significantly contributes to the unfavorable prognosis observed in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). During the process of EBI, a substantial quantity of iron permeates into the subarachnoid space and brain tissue, thereby raising concerns regarding its metabolism. To investigate the role and metabolic processes of excessive iron in neurons, we established both in vivo and in vitro models of SAH. We substantiated that ferritinophagy participates in iron metabolism disorders and promotes neuronal ferroptosis using an in vivo model, as detected by key proteins such as ferritin heavy chain 1, glutathione peroxidase 4, autophagy related 5, nuclear receptor coactivator 4 (NCOA4), LC3B, and electron microscopy results. By interfering with NCOA4 expression in vitro and in vivo, we confirmed the pivotal role of elevated NCOA4 levels in ferritinophagy during EBI. Additionally, our in vitro experiments demonstrated that the addition of oxyhemoglobin alone did not result in a significant upregulation of NCOA4 expression. However, simultaneous addition of oxyhemoglobin and hypoxia exposure provoked a marked increase in NCOA4 expression and heightened ferritinophagy in HT22 cells. Using YC-1 to inhibit hypoxia signaling in in vitro and in vitro models effectively attenuated neuronal ferroptosis. Collectively, we found that the hypoxic microenvironment during the process of EBI exaggerates iron metabolism abnormalities, leading to poor prognoses in SAH. The findings also offer a novel and potentially effective foundation for the treatment of SAH, with the aim of alleviating hypoxia.

Twin-screw extrusion of vitamin D3/iron-blend granules in corn and lentil composite flours: Stability, microstructure, and interaction of vitamin D3 with human osteoblast cells.

Vitamin D3 (VD3) and iron-blend granules were blended with corn and lentil composite flour (75/25, w/w) and fed into a pilot-scale twin-screw extruder to produce ready-to-eat snacks. The morphology and microstructure of extruded snacks were examined using scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), X-ray powder diffraction, and FT-IR. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis measured the melting temperature and thermal stability of the extrudates. SEM and FT-IR analysis demonstrate that micronutrients are mixed well in formulations used in extrudates at high shear and high temperatures. The SEM-EDX exhibited the presence of iron, whereas high performance liquid chromatography measurements confirmed the significant retention of VD3 in the extruded snacks. The interaction between VD3 and human osteoblast cells was studied using live imaging and the MMT assay. Overall, for the first time, VD3 and Fe2+ blend granules have been used in an extrusion platform, which has significant potential for the intervention of VD3 and iron deficiencies. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: For the first time, we reported the use of VD3/iron-blend granules in extruded products. The findings of this work demonstrated the thermal stability and capability of providing adequate quantities of VD3 and iron in corn flour/lentil flour/VD3-iron blend extruded snacks. Furthermore, the interaction of VD3 with osteoblast cells highlights the potential health benefits of the extrudates.

Corrosion inhibitive effect of organic dyestuffs towards API 5L X56 steel and its structural features evaluation

This paper presents a report on the corrosion resistance behaviour of organic corrosion inhibitors like titan yellow (1) and hydroxyl naphthol blue (2) on API 5L X56 steel in 3.5% NaCl as a corrosive medium. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarisation methods were used in the investigation. The protective film-forming tendency of inhibitor 1 and 2 on steel surfaces was confirmed from scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The quantity of metallic iron dissolved in the corroding medium was validated through inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry. The adsorption behaviour of inhibitors 1 and 2 on steel surfaces in a corrosive environment follows the Langmuir isotherm. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarisation results indicate that both 1 and 2 act as inhibitors in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution. Further, an increase in the water contact angle as well as a decrease in iron content in the solution by inductively coupled plasma–optical emission spectrometry explains the corrosion resistance behaviour of the steel towards the protection of underground pipelines, and industrial equipment.
