THE TRANSPARENCY OF INFORMATION IN TERMS OF CRIME CLEARANCE IN BANGKALAN POLICE RESORT AREA AS A CONTROL FOR POLICE PERFORMANCE BY SOCIETY

Transparency of information became one of the legal reform agenda within the theme of strengthtening the rule of law. Without any public transparency of information, particulary in terms of the completion of criminal cases (crime clearance) by the police, then how can the public contribute to monitor the criminal justice system. Therefore, it needs to be re-examined regarding the transparency of information about the completion of the criminal case as one of the control performance of the police by the public. This research is a descriptive – exploratory elaborated on the level of transparency of information about the crime clearance of the case in the Police Bangkalan as one of the control performance of the police by the public. The transparency of information about the number of cases solved by the Police Bangkalan certaintly can support public trust in the performance conducted by the police. This study started from the idea that one model of control that occur in Indonesia within the framework of the criminal justice system is community involvement in monitoring/ control of law enforcement. A qualitative analysis of family involvement in prescribed opioid medication monitoring among individuals who have experienced opioid overdoses

ABSTRACTBackground: Little is known about the role, extent, or effects of family member involvement in monitoring and managing opioid analgesics. Knowing when or how family members monitor prescribed opioid medication taking, whether it is acceptable to patients, or how family relationships may be affected by monitoring, are not well documented. Methods: The study was conducted at Kaiser Permanente Northwest, an integrated health plan in Oregon and Washington. Semistructured in-depth interviews (N = 87) assessed circumstances surrounding overdose events among individuals who either experienced an opioid-related overdose or were family members of patients who died as a result of such an overdose. A subset of participants (n = 20) described family members' roles in monitoring opioid medications before or after overdoses. Interviews were transcribed verbatim and coded using Atlas.ti. We used a modified grounded theory approach to categorize emergent data and to identify common themes. Results: When family members played roles in monitoring and managing opioid medications, clinicians were often unaware of their involvement. Patients and family members reported better outcomes when the patient, caregiver, and clinician developed a shared treatment plan. Negative outcomes included relationship stress, particularly when patients and caregivers had differing perspectives about what constituted effective pain management versus misuse and abuse. Conclusions: When families are concerned about opioid medications, coordination between clinicians, patients, and family carers appears to clarify roles and foster better outcomes. Increased stress and worse outcomes were reported when clinicians were not actively involved and when they did not attend to carers' concerns.

A Review of Plan Implementation Management Practices in the Bekwai Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana

Implementation is very vital in planning. This crucial aspect of planning (implementation) can only be achieved when appropriate goals and definite objectives are translated into executable strategies. This study aims at evaluating projects planning, implementation and management processes in the Bekwai Municipal Assembly, highlighting their strength and weakness and coming out with recommendations to inform future policy formulation. The case study designs with a sampled population of 310 participants, involving 300 household heads and unit committee members who were enrolled for the study. The study purposively engaged 10 participants from key units within the Assembly’s structure. The results of study demonstrate poor, unsatisfactory level of participation of concerned stakeholders at the grass root level in plan preparation and implementation. The study established that, statutory funding for the Assembly was not forthcoming. At the time of the conduct of the study, the District Assembly Common Fund, the major source of delegated funds for capital expenditures of the various MMDAs had been in arrears for over the past year. Notwithstanding these challenges, the Assembly has consistently been performing tremendously well in the FOAT (Functional Organizational Assessment Tool. Community level involvement in monitoring and evaluation of developmental projects was non-existing as none of the community members and unit committee members indicated their engagement in project monitoring and evaluation. Harnessing the resources potentials and opportunities of the Municipal remains the way forward towards expanding the revenue base of the municipality. Concerned stakeholder involvement is key to facilitating development. This could be done by adopting technologically inclined models such as mobile texting, employing the services of information vans and radio stations. The objective of realizing development project sustainability would be met if communities’ level education is provided on the need for their participation in plan preparation, implementation and management in a symbiotic manner.

Implementation of an Order Set to Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals for Warfarin Therapy

In 2009, The Joint Commission mandated full compliance with National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 03.05.01 to reduce the likelihood of patient harm associated with anticoagulant therapy. We conducted a retrospective chart review of inpatients receiving warfarin at Methodist Hospital pre and post implementation of a warfarin order set between January 2008 and July 2011. The primary endpoint of this study was overall adherence to laboratory monitoring. Secondary endpoints included compliance with individual laboratory parameters, percentage of patient educational sessions completed prior to discharge, and percentage of appropriate follow-up arrangements documented on discharge. A total of 707 patients were assessed. Overall adherence to laboratory monitoring parameters significantly improved from 71.8% to 87.5% (odds ratio [OR], 2.76; 95% CI, 1.87- 4.07; P < .001). Additional improvements were seen in patient education prior to discharge, and appropriate follow-up arrangements were documented at discharge. This analysis demonstrates that implementation of an order set assists in adherence to policies and procedures designed to address the NPSG 03.05.01. Additionally, pharmacy involvement in monitoring, educating, and arranging for follow-up may lead to successful completion of these parameters.

Effect of characteristics of target cues on task interference from prospective memory

Event-related potential technique was used to examine the effect of characteristics of target cues on brain activity related to task interference during event-based prospective memory (PM). Three conditions were tested. In the control condition participants had no PM task and merely performed a shape decision task. In one PM condition the task of PM was to respond to a salient cue, whereas in the other PM condition the task of PM was to respond to a nonsalient cue. The results seemed to support preparatory attentional and memory processes theory and suggested frontal lobe involvement in monitoring, which caused task interference effects, and those characteristics of cues modulated the amount of task interference and the extent to which the frontal lobe was engaged.

The effect of orbitofrontal lesions on the error-related negativity

Current theories of orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) function suggest that this region should participate in the generation of error-related signals associated with the outcomes of actions. We investigated the impact of lesions to OFC on the error-related negativity (ERN), an electrophysiological marker of performance monitoring. Four OFC patients and eight control subjects participated in a manual Stroop task while brain electrical activity was recorded. We found that the ERN was attenuated in the patient group. Three of the patients also had impaired error correction performance, but all showed normal post-error slowing. These findings suggest OFC involvement in monitoring and evaluation of ongoing performance.

The Role of the Non-executive Director: findings of an empirical investigation into the differences between listed and unlisted UK boards

This study, based on a comparison of the Combined Code Guidelines for non-executive directors between listed and unlisted boards, suggests that on unlisted boards non-executive directors have a greater degree of involvement in strategic development, financial monitoring, shareholder communication and overall board contribution than on listed boards, but a lesser degree of involvement in the monitoring of management, the setting of executive remuneration, the appointment and removal of executives, and succession planning. The importance of risk analysis and induction is considered high across both sectors, although board development and independence is considered less important on unlisted boards.
