Research on the Hot Straightening Process of Medium-Thick Plates Based on Elastic-Viscoplastic Material Modeling.

With the continuous improvement in the strength of medium-thick plate materials, the hot straightening of plates at high temperatures is increasingly influencing the final defect characteristics of products. In the high-temperature hot straightening process, the temperature and straightening speed of the plate significantly influence its intrinsic material properties, which, in turn, affect the straightening characteristics of the plate. However, most current material models used in the straightening process do not consider the relationship between temperature and strain rate, which leads to an inaccurate characterization of the actual material structure. Additionally, the continuous reverse bending mechanics model for straightening does not account for the impact of different bending strain rates on the bending characteristics of the plate in the thickness direction. In this study, a numerical calculation method was employed to investigate the evolution process of stress and curvature in the roll-type hot straightening process of medium-thick plates. Experimental data and mathematical methods were utilized to develop a viscous plastic material model that accounted for temperature and strain rate. Furthermore, a cross-sectional continuous reverse bending model was established, taking into account the temperature and straightening speed, enabling a reasonable interpretation of the mechanical parameter behaviors of medium-thick plates during high-temperature straightening.

A macro-micro approach for identifying crystal plasticity parameters for necking and failure in nickel-based alloy haynes 282

This work develops a two-scales macro-micro approach to address the challenge in calibrating crystal plasticity microstructural models when samples undergo necking prior to fracture. The crystal plasticity models are crucial for predicting the materials’ plastic deformation and failure at the microstructure level, identifying the materials’ intrinsic properties as well as investigating the microstructure-properties relationships. However, after necking occurs, the experimentally measured stress-strain curves fail to reflect the materials ‘true’ stress-strain behavior and cannot be directly fitted into crystal plasticity models. The proposed macro-micro approach employs a top-down strategy to address this challenge, which has been studied with experimental tests on precipitation-strengthened Ni-based superalloy Haynes® 282®. In this approach, a macro rate-dependent anisotropic plasticity model with Voce-type hardening and Rice-Tracey damage law is first utilized to model the deformation and failure of the tensile bar, and calibrated by matching the stress-strain curves, necking strain, and reduction of area. Especially, to match the testing results under different applied strain rates, the rate-sensitivity parameter m and saturation stress in the elasticity model are modified to incorporate dependence on the local strain rate. Then, the ‘true’ stress-strain behaviors are extracted from the necking zone of the macro-model, which are used to calibrate a micro-model with explicit microstructures and governed by an extended crystal plasticity law. The consistency between the micro-model and macro-model are enforced during calibration. The calibration outcomes from the crystal plasticity model elucidate the materials intrinsic properties for slip, hardening, and failure, which is vital for further investigations into the microstructure-properties relationship and for accurate prediction of the material behavior under various test and service conditions.

Electronic Delocalization Engineering of β‐AsP Enabled High‐Efficient Multisource Logic Nanodevices

AbstractDelocalized electron and phonon structures are directives for rationally tuning the intrinsic physicochemical properties of 2D materials by redistributing electronic density. However, it is still challenging to accurately manipulate the delocalized electron and systematically study the relationships between physiochemical properties and practical nanodevices. Herein, the effects of delocalized electrons engineering on blue‐arsenic‐phosphorus (β‐AsP)‐based practical devices are systematically investigated via implementing vacancies or heteroatom doping. A tendency of carrier conductivity property from “half‐metal” to “metal” is initially found when tuning the electronic structure of β‐AsP with adjustable vacancy concentrations below 2 at% or above 3 at%, which can be ascribed to the introduction of delocalized electrons that cause asymmetric contributions to the electronic states near the implementation site. In optical logic device simulations, broadband response, triangular wave circuit system signal, and reverse polarization anisotropy are achieved by adjusting the vacancy concentration, while extinction ratios are as high as 1561. The electric and thermic‐logic devices realize the highest available reported giant magnetoresistance (MR) up to 1013% and 1039% at vacancy concentrations of 1.67% and 0.89%, respectively, which is significantly superior to the reports. The results shed light on the electronic delocalization strategy of regulating internal structures to achieve highly efficient nanodevices.

Molecular Intercalation‐Induced Two‐Phase Evolution Engineering of 1T and 2H‐MS2 (M = Mo, V, W) for Interface‐Polarization‐Enhanced Electromagnetic Absorbers

AbstractPolarization at interfaces is an important loss mechanism for electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation, though the motion behavior of carriers in interfaces composed of different types of conductors has yet to be investigated. Tuning the phase structure of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) MS2 (M = Mo, V, W) by organics small molecule intercalation to achieve the modulation of interfacial types is an effective strategy, where 1T‐MS2 exhibits metallic properties and 2H‐MS2 has semiconducting properties. To exclude the contribution of the intrinsic properties of TMDs materials, three TMDs (MoS2, VS2, and WS2), which also possess phase transitions, are investigated. Among them, the 1T‐MS2 composite exhibits excellent EMW absorption performance under the synergistic effect of interfacial polarization and conduction loss. 1T‐MoS2/MOF‐A exhibits the best EMW absorption performance with an RLmin of −61.07 dB at a thickness of 3.0 mm and an EAB of 7.2 GHz at 2.3 mm. The effectiveness of the modulation of the interfacial polarization using 1T‐phase and 2H‐phase MS2 is demonstrated, which is important for the analysis of the carrier motion behavior during the interfacial loss.

A Physics-based Model Assisted by Machine-Learning for Sodium-ion Batteries with both Liquid and Solid Electrolytes

Abstract In the absence of experimental data of a fully developed hierarchical 3D sodium solid state batteries, we developed an improved continuum model by relying on Machine Learning-assisted parameter fitting to uncover the intrinsic material properties that can be transferred into different battery models. The electrochemical system simulated has sodium metal P2-type Na2/3[Ni1/3Fe1/12Mn7/12]O2 (NNFMO) as the cathode, paired with two types of electrolytes have been modeled viz, the organic liquid electrolyte and a solid polymer electrolyte. We implemented a 1D continuum model in COMSOL to suit both liquid and solid electrolytes, then used a Gaussian Process Regressor to fit and evaluate the electrochemical parameters in both battery systems. To enhance the generalizability of our model, the liquid cell and solid cell models share the same OCV input for the cathode materials. The resulting parameters are well aligned with their physical meaning and literature values. The continuum model is then used to understand the effect of increasing the thickness of the cathode and current density by analysing the cathode utilization, and the overpotentials arising from transport and charge transfer. This 1D model and the parameter set are ready to be used in a 3D battery architecture design.

Role of Foreign Phases, Synergistic Effects, and Morphology in the HER Performance of Trimetallic Pentlandites with Non-Equimolar Co:Fe:Ni Ratio

Since pentlandites are among the most promising catalysts for hydrogen evolution reactions (HER), in this study, we investigated the influence of different cobalt, iron, and nickel substitutions in the cationic sublattice and the form of the material (powder, ingot, sintered pellet) on catalytic performance. This complements previous results regarding a multi-component approach in these chalcogenides. It was shown that in the case of sulfur-rich pentlandites with a non-equimolar ratio of Co, Fe, and Ni, the impact of intrinsic material properties is smaller than the surface-related effects. Among powder forms, catalysts based on a combination of Fe and Co perform the best. However, in volumetric forms, extremely high contents of individual metals are favorable, albeit they are associated with active precipitations of foreign phases. The presence of these phases positively affects the recorded currents but slows down the reaction kinetics. These findings shed light on the nuanced interplay between material composition, form, and HER properties, offering insights for tailored catalyst design.

Tibial Bone Co-Morbidities Following Volumetric Muscle Loss Injury and Physical Inactivity

Volumetric muscle loss (VML) injuries are a traumatic loss of muscle, limiting regenerative potential and resulting in chronic loss of function. In isolation the bone adjacent to the VML injury is often overlooked, but known association between the tissues are important to long-term health and function. Recent work suggests decrements in both bones and muscles of VML-injured limbs, as well as a distinct relationship between VML and bone health. The clinically injured VML population is expected to undergo considerable periods of physical inactivity or a long-term sedentary lifestyle, and thus decreased loading, after VML. Our objective was to investigate the concomitant impact of VML on the adjacent bone, with and without the restriction of physical activity (reduced ~50% of daily ambulation). We hypothesized that with restriction of physical activity, the tibia adjacent to the VML would have functional impairments greater than those with normal physical activity (daily ambulation >1km). Adult male C57BI/6J mice (n=41) underwent unilateral VML to the posterior hindlimb compartment or served as uninjured age-matched controls, then were randomized to standard or restricted activity cages for 8-wks. Terminally (age 20-wks), mice underwent in vivo muscle function testing. Adjacent tibia were assessed for strength, mid‐diaphysis cortical geometry, and intrinsic material properties, and the metaphyseal trabecular bone structure was evaluated by microcomputed tomography and three‐point bending. A subset of tibias was saved for histologic staining (H&E, TRAP). Data were evaluated by two-way ANOVA. There were no absolute or normalized functional muscle deficits following 8-wks of inactivity. That said, there were significant VML-functional deficits (~42% of uninjured) that are not exacerbated by inactivity (p<0.001). Cortical geometric changes in the bone were primarily a result of physical inactivity, with thickness and cross-sectional moment of inertia both diminished independent of injury (p≤0.018). However, there were no differences in cortical bone volume, diameter, or cross-sectional area (p≥0.056). Trabecular bone mineral density was lower in all VML-injured tibias compared to uninjured (p=0.003). While there was no difference across groups for trabecular spacing (p>0.397), there was a reduction in bone mineral density across all VML-injured, compared to uninjured tibias (p=0.003). The functional capacity of the tibia to resist fracture (i.e., ultimate load during 3‐point bending) was ~21% lower with inactivity (p=0.018), while there was only a trend for VML injury to impact resistance to fracture. Stiffness was calculated during the onset to ultimate load and ~15% less in the VML injured and inactivity VML tibias (p=0.016). Tibia of VML injured and inactive groups appear to have greater lipid accumulation compared to uninjured tibias. While discordant with muscle function, physical activity restriction with and without VML injury impairs adjacent tibia. Inactivity alone had the greatest impact on the cortical bone properties, while VML with and without physical inactivity impacted trabecular tibia properties. This study demonstrates the impact of VML with and without physical inactivity on the tibia, furthering the complexity of traumatic injury on the musculoskeletal system. Multi‐Wavelength Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors Based on Transition Metal Telluride‐Sulfide Heterostructures

AbstractNeuromorphic visual systems based on optogenetic techniques have colossal potential for in‐memory computing with prospects of developing artificial intelligence vision systems. However, conventional transistor architectures face formidable challenges in efficient signal processing owing to limitations in the intrinsic properties of active channel materials. In this work, a novel transition metal telluride‐sulfide hybrid heterojunction‐based optoelectronic synaptic phototransistor is proposed, in which UV–vis responsive zinc oxide encapsulated few‐layer tungsten disulfide channel is decorated with near‐infrared sensitive 0D cobalt ditelluride (CoTe2) nanocrystals (NCs), eliciting the ability to sense, store, and process optical signals across a broad range of the electromagnetic spectrum. This meticulously designed three‐layered heterostructure, based on their interfacial band alignments, enables high photoresponsivity up to ≈2.6 × 103 A W−1 at a back‐gate bias of 20 V, leading to the brain‐inspired synaptic applications with an average power consumption as low as 75 pJ for each training process. The device exhibits excitatory postsynaptic current, paired‐pulse facilitation with an index above 150%, as well as light‐modulated synaptic plasticity by mimicking biological synapses, which mainly originate from trapped holes in Co‐vacancy mediated surface defect states of CoTe2 NCs. Hence, this 2D material‐based hybrid phototransistor appears to be a promising candidate for energy‐efficient next‐generation brain‐inspired neuromorphic vision systems.

Prediction of burden distribution and electrical resistance in submerged arc furnaces using discrete element method modelling

A computational model of a submerged arc furnace (SAF) used in the production of ferrochrome is presented. The model's intended use is to investigate the extent to which intrinsic and extrinsic properties of the raw materials affect burden distribution and electrical resistance within the furnace. The model is built on the discrete element method and calculates the mechanical interactions of particle distributions resulting from the flow motion of typical raw materials used in the smelting of chromium ore. This model excludes the effects of thermodynamics, furnace chemistry, and heat transfer. It illustrates how the consumption of materials (chromite pellets, flux, and reductant) is affected by changes in electrode length, reductant fractions, and reductant sizing and density during the formation of a reductant bed. The resistance calculation algorithm developed by Mintek was applied to construct networks developed from particle contacts, which can quantitatively generate estimates of the electrode-to-electrode and electrode-to-bath electrical conduction conditions.

Superfluorescence in Metal Halide Perovskites

AbstractSuperfluorescence (SF) is a unique quantum optical phenomenon where an ensemble of atoms or molecules exhibit coherent emission of an intense burst of light of high directionality, with temporal coherence. SF exhibits ultrafast optical characteristics and is considerably explored in diverse inorganic and hybrid semiconductor materials at cryogenic temperatures, including inorganic and hybrid metal halide perovskites. Notably, SF is reported in different perovskites’ nanocrystal superlattices, alongside two examples in thin films, impressively achieving SF at room temperature. The density of quantum emitters, excited state characteristics, interaction strengths, and temperature all affect the SF threshold. Although significant progress is reported in the observance of SF phenomena, a full interpretation of the relationship between the factors that determine the SF threshold and the intrinsic material properties remains unclear. This review addresses the current state‐of‐the‐art observations of SF in perovskite systems, such as nanocrystal superlattices and thin films, elucidating the optical properties, ultrafast dynamics, and the proposed mechanisms for room‐temperature SF. The review concludes with a discussion on the existing challenges, unresolved questions, and future perspectives for advancing perovskite SF research

A dual indentation method for evaluating intrinsic material properties of metals under residual stress

A dual flat-spherical indentation (DFSI) method is proposed for evaluating elastic-plastic properties of metallic materials under equi-biaxial residual stress (RS) state. DFSI consists of two indentation steps: (step I) performing flat indentation (FI) on a specimen having significant presence of residual stress, and (step II) performing spherical indentation (SI) at the center of residual imprint generated by the FI (step I). Indentation load-depth curve in conventional single spherical indentation (SSI) generally varies with RS, while the load-depth curves of SI step in DFSI are almost identical even under significant RS; this is attributed to stress redistribution during the preceding FI step. A set of FE analyses are performed for a wide range of properties of general metals. Regression-based mapping functions are established for evaluating the elastic-plastic properties from the SI data of step II. Finally, the proposed method is validated by performing DFSI experiments on the mechanically stressed SM45C and SS400 specimens.

Unraveling the influence of channel size and shape in 3D printed ceramic scaffolds on osteogenesis

Bone has the capacity to regenerate itself for relatively small defects; however, this regenerative capacity is diminished in critical-size bone defects. The development of synthetic materials has risen as a distinct strategy to address this challenge. Effective synthetic materials to have emerged in recent years are bioceramic implants, which are biocompatible and highly bioactive. Yet nothing suitable for the repair of large bone defects has made the transition from laboratory to clinic. The clinical success of bioceramics has been shown to depend not only on the scaffold's intrinsic material properties but also on its internal porous geometry. This study aimed to systematically explore the implications of varying channel size, shape, and curvature in tissue scaffolds on in vivo bone regeneration outcomes. 3D printed bioceramic scaffolds with varying channel sizes (0.3 mm to 1.5 mm), shapes (circular vs rectangular), and curvatures (concave vs convex) were implanted in rabbit femoral defects for 8 weeks, followed by histological evaluation. We demonstrated that circular channel sizes of around 0.9 mm diameter significantly enhanced bone formation, compared to channel with diameters of 0.3 mm and 1.5 mm. Interestingly, varying channel shapes (rectangular vs circular) had no significant effect on the volume of newly formed bone. Furthermore, the present study systematically demonstrated the beneficial effect of concave surfaces on bone tissue growth in vivo, reinforcing previous in silico and in vitro findings. This study demonstrates that optimizing architectural configurations within ceramic scaffolds is crucial in enhancing bone regeneration outcomes. Statement of significanceDespite the explosion of work on developing synthetic scaffolds to repair bone defects, the amount of new bone formed by scaffolds in vivo remains suboptimal. Recent studies have illuminated the pivotal role of scaffolds’ internal architecture in osteogenesis. However, these investigations have mostly remained confined to in silico and in vitro experiments. Among the in vivo studies conducted, there has been a lack of systematic analysis of individual architectural features. Herein, we utilized bioceramic 3D printing to conduct a systematic exploration of the effects of channel size, shape, and curvature on bone formation in vivo. Our results demonstrate the significant influence of channel size and curvature on in vivo outcomes. These findings provide invaluable insights into the design of more effective bone scaffolds.

A first-principles study of bilayer 1T'-WTe2/CrI3: a candidate topological spin filter

The ability to manipulate electronic spin channels in 2D materials is crucial for realizing next-generation spintronics. Spin filters are spintronic components that polarize spins using external electromagnetic fields or intrinsic material properties like magnetism. Recently, topological protection from backscattering has emerged as an enticing feature that can be leveraged to enhance the robustness of 2D spin filters. In this work, we propose and then characterize one of the first 2D topological spin filters: bilayer CrI3/1T’-WTe2. To do so, we use a combination of density functional theory, maximally localized Wannier functions, and quantum transport calculations to demonstrate that a terraced bilayer satisfies the principal criteria for being a topological spin filter: namely, that it is gapless, exhibits spin-polarized charge transfer from WTe2 to CrI3 that renders the bilayer metallic, and has a topological boundary which retains the edge conductance of monolayer 1T’-WTe2. In particular, we observe that small negative ferromagnetic moments are induced on the W atoms in the bilayer, and the atomic magnetic moments on the Cr are approximately 3.2 μB/Cr compared to 2.9 μB/Cr in freestanding monolayer CrI3. Subtracting the charge and spin densities of the constituent monolayers from those of the bilayer further reveals spin-orbit coupling-enhanced spin-polarized charge transfer from WTe2 to CrI3. We demonstrate that the bilayer is topologically trivial by showing that its Chern number is zero. Lastly, we show that interfacial scattering at the boundary between the terraced materials does not remove WTe2’s edge conductance. Altogether, this evidence indicates that BL 1T’-WTe2/CrI3 is gapless, magnetic, and topologically trivial, meaning that a terraced WTe2/CrI3 bilayer heterostructure in which only a portion of a WTe2 monolayer is topped with CrI3 is a promising candidate for a 2D topological spin filter. Our results further suggest that 1D chiral edge states may be realized by stacking strongly ferromagnetic monolayers, like CrI3, atop 2D nonmagnetic Weyl semimetals like 1T’-WTe2.

Construction and applications of hybrid nanochannels with helical foldamers and solid-state nanopores

Nanopore platform has been explored for wide applications in various domain. However, the intrinsic properties of the pore-carrier materials limit the scaled practical usage. Some hybrid systems combined the advantages of each material have been promoted, most of which are based on the fragile lipid bilayer-supported transmembrane proteins or DNA origami on the solid-state channel. We herein provide a lipid-free construction of hybrid nanochannel equipped with helical molecule embedding in SiNx nanopore. The mechanical robustness and the physiochemical stability of SiNx and designable biocompatible helix supply a superior integrated device for stable durable sensing with good reliability. The hybrid nanochannels display a good conduction in distinct ionic solutions with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic multiplex helix. The identification of different amino acids as well as the enantiomers reveal the potential capability of the hybrid nanochannel in the peptide and protein sensing at single amino acid level. Our work paves a way on the solid-state nanopore sequencing with sub-nanometer-sized organic/inorganic hybrid ionic channel.

Alumina Ceramic Textiles as Novel Bacteria‐Capturing Wound Dressings

AbstractAlthough antimicrobial dressings have proven to be crucial in the treatment of wounds, they may give rise to antibiotic‐resistant strains or result in the release of endotoxins after bacterial death, which in turn inhibits wound healing. This study highlights the efficacy of a novel alumina ceramic textile as dressing that utilizes the principles of bacteria capture from the wound bed and inhibition of bacterial infiltration into the wound bed to reduce the bacterial burden and to inhibit the spread of infection, without the involvement of active antimicrobial substances or functional nanoparticles. The alumina textiles are compared to commercial dressings like the non‐woven mesh Cutimed Sorbact and gauzes from LEINA WERKE and performed significantly better in capturing bacteria. They are found to be effective against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Bacillus subtilis and show promising results in the presence of simulated wound fluid and in artificial wound bed tests from which they can be easily lifted without leaving behind any visible residues. In summary, the alumina textiles exhibit a highly efficient bacterial binding activity, possibly due to the intrinsic material properties of their hierarchical structure including the tricot knit mesh, small fiber diameters, pronounced fiber surface microtopography, and high specific surface area.

Decoding intrinsic features of carbons from their capacitive performance

Carbon-based materials, prized for their diverse applications, are at the forefront of scientific exploration. Performance of these materials relies on their basic properties, yet traditional characterization methods are often laborious. In our study, we introduce a machine learning (ML) based approach that leverages electrochemical performance data to elucidate the intrinsic properties of carbon materials. We highlight a technique, Cap2SSA, that expeditiously and precisely determines the specific surface area (SSA) of carbon materials through capacitive responses gathered during electrochemical tests. The efficacy of Cap2SSA is substantiated using the commercial carbon material across diverse current densities in both aqueous and organic electrolytes. Our findings reveal that the SSA values derived from capacitance measurements align closely with actual measurements, with discrepancies under 14 %. Significantly, this evaluation method extends beyond the SSA estimation, offering a versatile tool for inferring additional carbon material features, such as nitrogen and oxygen doping levels. Overall, combining electrochemical measurements with ML enables rapid assessment of material composition and structure, driving forward material science analysis.

Enhanced Light-Matter Interaction in Metallic Nanoparticles: A Generic Strategy of Smart Void Filling.

The intrinsic properties of materials play a substantial role in light-matter interactions, impacting both bulk metals and nanostructures. While plasmonic nanostructures exhibit strong interactions with photons via plasmon resonances, achieving efficient light absorption/scattering in other transition metals remains a challenge, impeding various applications related to optoelectronics, chemistry, and energy harvesting. Here, we propose a universal strategy to enhance light-matter interaction, through introducing voids onto the surface of metallic nanoparticles. This strategy spans nine metals including those traditionally considered optically inactive. The absorption cross section of void-filled nanoparticles surpasses the value of plasmonic (Ag/Au) counterparts with tunable resonance peaks across a broad spectral range. Notably, this enhancement is achieved under arbitrary polarizations and varied particle sizes and in the presence of geometric disorder, highlighting the universal adaptability. Our strategy holds promise for inspiring emerging devices in photocatalysis, bioimaging, optical sensing, and beyond, particularly when metals other than gold or silver are preferred.

Combined DFT and MD simulation approach for the investigation of intrinsic material properties of T-phase Rb2Se monolayer

Two-dimensional monolayers are a prime class of materials due to their extensive spectrum of applications. In the present study, the material characteristics of the 1T-Rb2Se monolayer are investigated and analysed by employing the first-principles DFT calculations. The computations of structural, electronic, bonding nature, dynamical, optical, thermoelectric, and elastic properties of the theoretically predicted 1T-Rb2Se monolayer are effectuated. The 1T-Rb2Se monolayer displays a semiconducting nature with the energy gap quantified using various exchange-correlational potentials. The phonon and CPMD was deployed for the conclusions on the dynamical and thermal stabilities. With indirect band gap and good thermal response, the material will have possible applications in photovoltaics and thermoelectrics. Positive Poisson's ratio and elastic tensors validates the elastic strength of the monolayer. The effective masses of charge carriers and its relative ratio are determined from the energy band paraboloids with the deformation potentials for the accuracy of the relaxation time. The 1T-Rb2Se is electronically, ionically, dynamically, thermally, and elastically stable that confirms its feasibility for experimental studies.

Exploiting Polarized Material Cues for Robust Car Detection

Car detection is an important task that serves as a crucial prerequisite for many automated driving functions. The large variations in lighting/weather conditions and vehicle densities of the scenes pose significant challenges to existing car detection algorithms to meet the highly accurate perception demand for safety, due to the unstable/limited color information, which impedes the extraction of meaningful/discriminative features of cars. In this work, we present a novel learning-based car detection method that leverages trichromatic linear polarization as an additional cue to disambiguate such challenging cases. A key observation is that polarization, characteristic of the light wave, can robustly describe intrinsic physical properties of the scene objects in various imaging conditions and is strongly linked to the nature of materials for cars (e.g., metal and glass) and their surrounding environment (e.g., soil and trees), thereby providing reliable and discriminative features for robust car detection in challenging scenes. To exploit polarization cues, we first construct a pixel-aligned RGB-Polarization car detection dataset, which we subsequently employ to train a novel multimodal fusion network. Our car detection network dynamically integrates RGB and polarization features in a request-and-complement manner and can explore the intrinsic material properties of cars across all learning samples. We extensively validate our method and demonstrate that it outperforms state-of-the-art detection methods. Experimental results show that polarization is a powerful cue for car detection. Engineering Spin Polarization of the Surface-Adsorbed Fe Atom by Intercalating a Transition Metal Atom into the MoS2 Bilayer for Enhanced Nitrogen Reduction.

The precise control of spin states in transition metal (TM)-based single-atom catalysts (SACs) is crucial for advancing the functionality of electrocatalysts, yet it presents significant scientific challenges. Using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we propose a novel mechanism to precisely modulate the spin state of the surface-adsorbed Fe atom on the MoS2 bilayer. This is achieved by strategically intercalating a TM atom into the interlayer space of the MoS2 bilayer. Our results show that these strategically intercalated TM atoms can induce a substantial interfacial charge polarization, thereby effectively controlling the charge transfer and spin polarization on the surface Fe site. In particular, by varying the identity of the intercalated TM atoms and their vacancy filling site, a continuous modulation of the spin states of the surface Fe site from low to medium to high can be achieved, which can be accurately described using descriptors composed of readily accessible intrinsic properties of materials. Using the electrochemical dinitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) as a prototypical reaction, we discovered a universal volcano-like relation between the tuned spin and the catalytic activity of Fe-based SACs. This finding contrasts with the linear scaling relationships commonly seen in traditional studies and offers a robust new approach to modulating the activity of SACs through interfacial engineering.
