The value of placental microbial studies to predict the results of amniotic fluid (AF) cultures

In the absence of direct AF analysis, it is assumed that microbiological and pathological examination of the placenta can serve as a surrogate for accurate diagnosis of infection. Our aim was to evaluate the ability of placental examination to predict intraamniotic infection/inflammation (IAI/I) diagnosed by cultures and proteomic analysis of the AF.
