The article substantiates the necessity of he foreign-language competence formation of specialists inthe translation sphere during the process of studying a foreign language for professional purpouse, business and secondforeign languages. The modern state of interpreters’ preparation for professional activity is analyzed.Practical mastering of a foreign language is considered as a process of acquiring of a communicativeprofessionally oriented foreign competence by students. It is revealed that the level should not be lower than that whichallows the usage of a foreign language in scientific, informational and professional activities.It had been determined that the foreign competence of interpreters is an integrative quality that includes the
 level of mastering of foreign language knowledge, skills and abilities and consists of linguistic, communicative, socio-cultural and professional competences.
 As a result of the study, it was found that, skills of free communication in a foreign language and translation skillsneed particular knowledge in the field of economics, science or technology. The specialists with such level of languageproficiency must have not only knowledge and skills of foreign language, but also a profound understanding of foreignlanguage culture and realities.Effective formation of foreign language competence of specialists in the field of translation takes place in theprocess of studying such disciplines as: “Foreign Language (for Professional Purposes)”, “Business Foreign Language”, “Second Foreign Language”.The meaning of foreign language (for professional purposes) for experts in the sphere of interpretation isanalyzed. The process of foreign language competence formation, which is a necessary component of a full-fledgedprofessional training of interpreners had been described.The research reveals that the introduction of interactive studying methods is due to the application of the mainaspects, namely: projects, business games, web-quest, excursions, etc.It is proved that an important aspect in foreign language competence formation is the usage of informative andcommunicative technologies in education, which includes the using of information and communication technologies ineducation, work with computer and multimedia educational programs, distance learning technologies in foreignlanguages, creation of presentations, usage of resources of the World Wide Web Internet.

A study on the effect of different factors on e-Commerce adoption among SMEs of Malaysia

In recent years, researchers have focused on ecommerce adoption both in the United States and other countries. This study examines the factors influencing e-commerce adoption among Malaysian SMEs. There are only a few studies which have examined the adoption of e-commerce among SMEs, its development, challenges, and future prospects. The results show that the major reason behind e-commerce non-adoption is that the organization is not ready to make that change because of external pressure and cultural reasons. Furthermore, organizational readiness strongly influences e-commerce implementation, and managerial support and financial, logistical, and technological factors weigh heavily in determining if an SME in Malaysia can pursue e-commerce implementation. The study is based on 100 samples taken from Cyberjaya. 100 sets of administrated questionnaires were sent and conducted. The data analysis shows e-commerce adoption was significantly influenced by its organizational readiness, perceived ease of use, and also perceived usefulness factors. © 2012 Growing Science Ltd. What was learned in the extensive research about these services is very relevant to the current new media environment. Also, it can inform us at a theoretical level about the diffusion of innovations and at a policy level about the role of government in developing new media services.

E-EXTINCTION: AN ILLUSION OF KNOWLEDGE, THE PRESENCE OF IGNORANCE, OR EVOLUTIONARY FATE?

At present, the rate of small firm adoption of the Internet's ubiquitous World Wide Web (the web) far exceeds the actual exploitation its commercial potential. An inability to strategically acquire, comprehend and use external knowledge is proposed as a major barrier to optimal exploitation of the Internet. This paper discusses the limitations of applying market orientation theory to explain and guide small firm exploitation of the web. Absorptive capacity is introduced as an alternative theory that when viewed from an evolutionary perspective provides potentially more insightful discussion. An inability to detect emerging business model dominant designs is suggested to be a mixture of the nature of the technology that supports the Internet and underdeveloped small firm knowledge processing capabilities. We conclude with consideration of the practical and theoretical implications that arise from the paper.

Comparison of National Death Index and World Wide Web death searches.

The authors used the National Death Index and a World Wide Web Internet site that searches the Social Security Administration master files of deaths to determine the mortality status of 1,000 US subjects from the College Alumni Health Study. Subjects were classified as definitely dead, possibly dead, or presumed alive. Of 246 definite deaths pinpointed by the National Death Index, the World Wide Web identified 94.7% of them. Of 438 men presumed alive according to the National Death Index, the World Wide Web identified 97.5% of them. However, the World Wide Web was not useful for identifying deaths of women. This study demonstrated that the World Wide Web may provide an alternative, inexpensive method of determining the mortality status of subjects in relatively small epidemiologic studies.

ProtEST: protein multiple sequence alignments from expressed sequence tags.

An automatic sequence searching method (ProtEST) is described which constructs multiple protein sequence alignments from protein sequences and translated expressed sequence tags (ESTs). ProtEST is more effective than a simple TBLASTN search of the query against the EST database, as the sequences are automatically clustered, assembled, made non-redundant, checked for sequence errors, translated into protein and then aligned and displayed. A ProtEST search found a non-redundant, translated, error- and length-corrected EST sequence for > 58% of sequences when single sequences from 1407 Pfam-A seed alignments were used as the probe. The average family size of the resulting alignments of translated EST sequences contained > 10 sequences. In a cross-validated test of protein secondary structure prediction, alignments from the new procedure led to an improvement of 3.4% average Q3 prediction accuracy over single sequences. As with any voyage, the successful transit of a university engineering education requires foresight knowledge of curricular objectives and structure. This simple requirement, which often seems overlooked, is especially important at the undergraduate-degree level, where contemporary engineering curricula are becoming increasingly complex in order to provide greater opportunities for subtrack specialization, degree minors, and joint degrees with nonengineering programs. This paper argues that, without foresight explanation of curricular objectives and structure, significant numbers of students soon find themselves effectively adrift in the curriculum, unsure as to where they are headed, undermotivated, and, consequently, underperforming. Foresight explanation also benefits faculty engaged in curriculum subtracks. It prompts them to monitor sequencing of course contents, to better appreciate the context of their own courses, and to coordinate textbook use. Two fairly straightforward ways are suggested to augment student-guidance techniques already used by colleges: course-direction lectures to indicate whence-and-whither guidance at key points throughout the curriculum, and an Internet World Wide Web site to help guide students (and faculty) through the curriculum.

Process-oriented architectures for electronic commerce and interorganizational workflow

The Internet's World Wide Web has become the prime driver of contemporary Electronic commerce (E-commerce). Although the emphasis has moved from Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to the Internet, the focus is still on the technology required to exchange information rather than supporting business processes crossing organizational borders. E-commerce is not just about facilitating individual business transactions, it also comprises the management of the causal relations between these transactions. This paper stresses the process aspect of E-commerce by relating it to workflow management. Traditional workflow management systems assume one centralized enactment service and have problems dealing with dynamic changes and local variations. Since E-commerce is characterized by interorganizational workflows distributed over autonomous business units, these systems tend to be useless in the context of E-commerce. This paper reviews new and existing architectures to enable interorganizational workflow. The presentation focuses on two approaches to partition an interorganizational workflow over multiple business partners. Both approaches are evaluated. One of the key concerns in this paper is the possibility to verify the correctness of the interorganizational workflow. The dynamics of the marketplace, with rapid changing business processes and relationships, underlines the need for verification tools.

A World Wide Web Internet engine for collaborative entry and peer review of radiologic teaching files.

Radiologists can now use the Internet as a dissemination medium for radiologic teaching files. This has greatly increased the availability of radiologic information to a larger number of people. However, the creation of the teaching files themselves remains a static and labor-intensive process. As a partial solution to this problem, we set out to create a World Wide Web-based Internet engine for the collaborative entry and peer review of radiologic teaching files. We created a system that facilitates, simplifies, and improves the generation of radiologic teaching files. We used the Internet to help promote the creation of teaching files in a more timely, efficient, and effective manner.

Recent developments enabling data accessing in the field are here discussed. A field‐tested electronic system for data gathering, recording, storage, transfer, formatted printout (e.g. for labelling) and, finally, dissemination by on‐line access, called ELCEN (Electronic CEN Herbarium), is described. It makes use of new, easily portable, hand‐held “personal data assistants” (PDAs) that connect easily with personal computers (PCs) and workstations, and results in global data availability via Internet's World Wide Web. Among the advantages of the new system are its ease of use, the elimination of most typing errors during data entry, and the reduction of the time lag between data input and data availability.
