Larnaca desalination plant operation—a client and contractor perspective

The Larnaca seawater desalination plant is the largest and most advanced Sea Water Reverse Osmosis plant in Cyprus. Following an international tender from the Cyprus Government, the 10 year BOOT project was awarded to IDE Technologies Ltd with the following specifications: • 10 year BOOT concept, starting in June 2001 • Installed capacity of 54,000 m 3/d conforming to WHO and EU drinking standards • Fully automated desalination Plant • Six Units—9,000 m 3/d capacity each • Seawater feed from 1000 m pipeline • Recovery of 50% • Pre treatment Filtration—Gravity dual media filters • Product delivery to 12 km with 90 m elevation • Total energy consumption <4.52 KWh/m 3 (include delivery to 1.2 km from Plant). • Delivery to 12 km from plant.

The evolution of the international monetary System prompted the nine members of the E.E.C. to establish a European Monetary System. The new statutes of the I.M.F. have in fact legalized the practice of flexible exchange rates and sanctioned the dollar's inconvertibility while eliminating the role of gold. Further, the increasing importance of the international capital markets fosters the unlimited expansion of international liquidities. it is in response to this context then that Europe seeks to create a zone of stability and to manage its own international tender in accordance with rules that it has set for itself. The author draws a positive conclusion as the System has operated without major problems so far. Nevertheless, difficulties remain: the international environment has not improved given the abrupt strengthening of the dollar and the increase in American interest rates. In addition, progress with regard to cooperation among the Nine remains slow and political change in France makes any prognosis respecting the future of the European Monetary System difficult. It was anticipated that the System would be Consolidated rapidly. It would in that event contribute more effectively to the stability of the international monetary System. It could, on the other hand, sharpen competition between Europe and the United States, between the Ecu and S.D.Rs. and between the European Monetary Fund and the International Monetary Fund.

The French Fonds de réserve pour les retraites and the asset management’s industry The French FRR hasn’t the right to manage its financial portfolios. So it put its assets management out to international tender. This competition on an unprecedented scale produced more than 400 answers from the main great international asset managers. The candidatures’ analysis was supervised in the legal framework of French public markets and has so presented a wide description of the main international management companies’ practices and organization. Introducing Telecommunications Competition through a Wireless License: Lessons from Morocco

In August 1999 the Moroccan government awarded a second mobile telecommunications license through international tender. All bidders made commitments on quality, coverage, and tariffs that would significantly expand and improve telecommunications services. The winning bidder, Medi Telecom, paid about US$1.1 billion for the fifteen-year license to operate under relatively unfettered competition-one of the highest prices ever paid for a mobile license relative to population size. Just as impressive is that the price was offered in a country usually off the radar screen of foreign investors. This Note examines why Morocco was able to reap these big rewards.

The Tizapa Mine is located approximately 130 line kilometers west of Mexico City, the United States of Mexico.The deposit is classified into strata-bound massive sulfide deposit similar to the Kuroko type deposit in Japan, in which Dowa Mining Co., Ltd. has accumulated much experience and technology for its exploration and development. In fact, the Tizapa Mine is the first example in Mexico developed by+using this technology.Following the discovery of the deposit by Consejo Recurso de Mineral (CRM) in 1977, exploration was carried out as an Official Development Assistance project between the Mexican and Japanese governments through CRM and Japan International Cooperation Agency/Metal Mining Agency of Japan in 1987. After an international tender offered by Mexican government, the result of the project was succeeded as the development of the Tizapa Mine by Minera Tizapa, S. A. de C. V., a private joint venture company, among Dowa Mining Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Corporation and Industrias Penoles, S. A. de C. V., which is the leading Mexican mining company and the largest silver producer in the world.The development of the Tizapa Mine has been very successful by mutual cooperation among the parties and now the production is reached at 25, 000 tonnes per month, crude ore. Following the successful result of a surface exploration drilling program around the deposit, an expansion plan aiming at 40, 000 tone per month production is now underway.

The Non-Energy Mineral Industries of Post-Soviet Russia

The paper surveys regularities in the organization, economic status, and activities of the non-energy mineral industries in independent Russia. It synthesizes the findings of detailed studies of eight key mineral commodities, as well as general information on other non-energy minerals and on general economic conditions, to derive generalizations believed to be applicable to the sector as a whole. The analysis encompasses such factors as domestic production and consumption, exports, the severing of traditional interrepublican supply linkages, elements of economic reform (e.g., in export licensing, privatization), international tenders, and conservation and secondary recovery. 1 table, 18 references.
