Digital ecosystem for enhancing research and innovation activities of master's students

Introduction. The dynamic development of modern digital technologies emphasizes the need for the development of new tools to activate the research and innovation activities of master's students. A digital ecosystem holds significant pedagogical potential not only in the academic activities of students but also in research and innovation. However, its creation is complicated by a lack of understanding of the essence, structure, and emergent properties of the system. The purpose of the study is to identify the features, mechanisms, and functionality of the digital educational ecosystem to enhance the research and innovation activities of undergraduates. Materials and methods. Bibliographic databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, Lens, and other international information systems of peer-reviewed scientific literature were used for the analysis of publications. System analysis and analysis of internet resources were employed to address the research objectives. The results of the study. The functional capabilities of the digital educational ecosystem for activating the research and innovation activities of master's students were identified, including access to information systems and databases of scientific information, automation of research management, creation and administration of electronic surveys, access to tools for processing and analyzing large volumes of data, access to data visualization tools, collaboration systems for working on research projects, automation of planning, tracking, and organizing research or educational projects, access to electronic systems for applying for research grants and scholarships, access to specialized plagiarism detection systems, electronic portfolios, access to publication management systems, automation of the creation and formatting of scientific articles and presentations, automation of publication formatting, access to virtual laboratories and modeling environments. Conclusion. The presented analysis allowed for the identification and justification of the pedagogical potential of the digital ecosystem for the core research and project activities of master's students, specifically: providing research with information resources; improving data collection and analysis; optimizing collaborative and network interactions; automating project management; digitally supporting the research process; digital technologies for stimulating creativity; digital support for publication preparation; expanding research boundaries; self-development; supporting distance learning; supporting virtual laboratories and modeling environments; ensuring data visualization; instrumental support for research quality analysis.

ОСНОВНЫЕ РЕЗУЛЬТАТЫ НАУЧНЫХ ИССЛЕДОВАНИЙ КРАСНОДАРСКОГО НАУЧНО-ИССЛЕДОВАТЕЛЬСКОГО ИНСТИТУТА ХРАНЕНИЯ И ПЕРЕРАБОТКИ СЕЛЬСКОХОЗЯЙСТВЕННОЙ ПРОДУКЦИИ – ФИЛИАЛА ФГБНУ «СЕВЕРО-КАВКАЗСКИЙ ФЕДЕРАЛЬНЫЙ НАУЧНЫЙ ЦЕНТР САДОВОДСТВА, ВИНОГРАДАРСТВА, ВИНОДЕЛИЯ» В 2023 ГОДУ

The main results of scientific research of the Krasnodar research Institute of storage and processing of agricultural products – branch of the FSBSI «North Caucasian Federal scientific center of horticulture, viticulture, winemaking», obtained in 2023 by scientists of the Institute in the implementation of the State order in 4 areas of scientific research, as well as data reflected the publication fecundity and patent activity. Research work was carried out in accordance with the PFSR in the Russian Federation for a long-term period (2021-2030) in the direction: 4.4.1 Storage and processing of agricultural products. Ensuring the priorities of the PFSR in the Russian Federation for the long term (2021-2030) provides for the need to conduct scientific research, the purpose of which is to develop algorithms for predicting the properties of biologically active substances based on molecular modeling methods, to identify patterns of controlled transformation of dietary fiber complexes, phospholipids and carotenoids using biotechnological and physico-chemical methods and, based on the identified patterns, to develop technologies for the production of beet pectin, modified phospholipids, lycopene and beta-carotene, as well as scientific research, aimed at identifying the mechanisms of microbiological, physiological, physico-chemical and biotechnological processes occurring in preparation for storage, storage and processing of vegetables (zucchini, eggplant, carrots and beets, tomatoes, leafy and cabbage vegetables), fruits (apples, grapes), for the development of resource-saving storage technologies based on the identified patterns. The results of scientific research have been published in 35 scientific articles, among them 11 articles in journals included in the core of the RSCI, in journals included in the list of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation – 9 articles, in journals indexed in the international information and analytical citation systems Scopus – 3 articles, in materials and collections of scientific and practical conferences – 12 articles. 1 methodological recommendations have been published. Comprehensive score of publication performance: plan – 9.6, fact – 14.4. According to the results of the scientific research carried out, 6 patents of the Russian Federation for inventions were obtained and 2 certificates for computer programs, as well as 6 applications for alleged inventions were submitted to the FIIP.

Experience in creating an information system for the rational use of soil resources

The structure and functions of the “SoilGeographical Database of Russia Information System” (ISSGDBR) implemented on the platform of the Soil Science Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University are considered. The current state of national soil databases and developing on that base international soil information systems are described. The created information system consists of three sections. The first section includes soil maps of different scales and maps of the natural conditions of the territory of the Russian Federation. The second section is represented by a naturalattribute database, which is based on a soil profile with associated analytical characteristics. In the third section, with the help of software tools, the collected varied information about the soil cover becomes the basis for modeling the spatial distribution of various indicators, performing calculations in applied projects for a wide range of users. The ISSGDBR is considered as an expert and analytical center, which acts as a coordinator and supports the functioning of a distributed network, as well as the development and distributing of internationally relevant standards for description, storage, presentation of soil information and data exchange through the use of specialized programs adapted to regional features. In addition, the purpose of the center is the implementation of communication between primary digital resources of natural and soil information localized in various organizations, agrochemicalservice regional centers, and federal agencies accumulating information necessary for making managerial decisions.

Identification of the pedagogical potential of Internet socialization of youth in the international professional community

Introduction. The dynamic development of new forms of socialization of young people actualizes the need of the educational society to realize the pedagogical potential of Internet socialization of students in the international professional community. The realization of this potential will make it possible to rethink the pedagogical significance of professionally-oriented Internet networks and to identify the features of the organization of various types of professional practices on the Internet. The purpose of the study is to analyze the pedagogical potential of Internet socialization of youth in the international professional community in order to clarify the conceptual apparatus of professional pedagogy focused on the use of Internet technologies. Materials and methods. To analyze world-class publications on the research topic, the following bibliographic bases were used: Scopus, Web of Science, Lens and other international information systems of peer-reviewed scientific literature. To solve the research tasks, the following methods were used: system analysis, analysis of Internet information resources, classification, comparative analysis and questionnaires. The results of the study. Digital technologies for the Internet socialization of youth in the international professional community were analyzed. The features of the organization of various types of professional practices using the Internet were identified, which served as the basis for choosing the optimal directions for comparative analysis of internships using Internet technologies. A comparative analysis of the traditional form of internship and practice using Internet technologies was presented, taking into account the following criteria: the purpose of internship in the Internet, the process (stages) of internship, professional and value orientations, new Internet technologies of internship, subjects of the practice and educational process, administrative management. The results of the search and critical rethinking of the pedagogical potential of Internet socialization of students in the international professional community were presented, which made it possible to use theoretical research to clarify the conceptual apparatus of professional pedagogy focused on the use of professionally-oriented Internet technologies during various types of professional practices. Conclusion. The presented analysis made it possible to identify and substantiate the pedagogical potential of Internet socialization of youth in the international professional community, namely: new opportunities for expanding professional ties, access to professionally-oriented resources and information, mechanisms for improving the future professional profile and reputation of students. The potential and possibility of organizing educational and industrial practice on the Internet (freelance, online internships, online practices, etc.) were considered, the possible structure of the pedagogical system of Internet socialization of youth in the international professional community was substantiated.

ON THE NEED FOR A COMPREHENSIVE GEOECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF LANDS DISTURBED BY MINING

The relevance of the study is caused by the need to systematize information on the methods and procedure for obtaining data for a comprehensive geoecological assessment of territories disturbed by mining, based on the initial state of natural and modified components of the environment with the processes and phenomena occurring in it. This enables us to obtain information about the territories required for the development of methods and techniques for the subsequent reclamation of lands disturbed by mining. Objective: using various methods and techniques, to analyze methodological approaches that allow generating the necessary and sufficient volume of primary and required information synthesized on its basis, to proceed from a general to a comprehensive and detailed geoecological assessment of territories and areas disturbed and/or planned to be disturbed by mining operations. Objects: territories of Russia in mining regions disturbed by mining operations. Methods. Pre-selection of materials published in various publications since 2000 was carried out. Russian (E-library, VINITI RAS) and international (Scopus, GeoRef) information systems, websites of specialized and general scientific journals, library collections, and authors’ materials were used. When querying, the following basic terms and phrases were used in various combinations: «geoecological assessment», «assessment methods», «territories disturbed by mining», «remote sensing», «environmental condition». Of more than 1000 pre-identified publications, mostly Russian, devoted to various aspects of collecting and obtaining information on assessing the environmental condition in mining areas, more than 150 were selected. Publications were analyzed taking into account the most complete representation by region and publication. Additionally, materials published by federal and regional management and control authorities were used. The most important and representative ones were included in the review. Results. Existing and promising methods for collecting various data used in the geoecological assessment of territories disturbed by mining are considered. If required, these data will be further processed. Environmental, economic and social problems caused by the influence of mining operations are identified, the solution of these problems requires the generation of various information. The role of reliable and representative primary data measured on various scales is formulated to make a correct assessment of their impact on basic environmental components. The influence of the conditions of mining coal and ore deposits on environmental situation of the territories is considered. The necessity of using a set of methods for collecting and processing information, selected with regard to peculiarities of each mining area and mining specifics of various mineral deposits, is shown.

International experience of Internet socialization of young people and their professionally oriented communication on social networks

Introduction. At present, there is a need to train scientific personnel professionally oriented toward using modern Internet technologies. The research on the international experience of professionally oriented communication will make it possible to reveal the technologies of Internet socialization of youth and rethink the value of social networks for professional pedagogy. The aim of the study is to analyze the international experience of Internet socialization of young people and their professionally oriented communication on social networks. Materials and methods. To conduct the analysis, the authors used the Scopus and WoS databases and other international information systems, the Dimensions.ai and Lens.org services, and the VOSviewer software for building bibliometric data and analyzing the emergence of the terminological apparatus in world-class publications on the study topic. Results. The results of the search and critical rethinking of the international experience of Internet socialization of young people and their professionally oriented communication on social networks allowed using the theoretical findings of the international scientific community to rethink and refine the conceptual apparatus of professional pedagogy focused on the use of Internet-oriented technologies. The level of publication activity was also changing: there were more publications at the peak of activity and a stronger decline thereafter. For instance, in 2017, there were 900 publications, while in 2018 and 2019, publication activity decreased by 15%, stopping at the mark of 800 publications per year. In 2021, the number of publications fell by another 25% to 607 publications. The distribution map of publications made it possible to reveal the main areas of research on the problem of Internet socialization: psychology (3074 publications for the whole period), social psychology (1144 publications) and sociology (1911 publications), computer science (866 publications), and pedagogy (836 publications). Conclusion. The presented analysis of the international experience of Internet socialization of youth made it possible to identify professionally oriented technologies for the professional communication of the young generation, such as social networks, professional communities, professional Internet resources, videoconferencing systems, open education systems, distance learning technologies, Internet of Things technologies, freelancing, and remote internships.

FOREIGN VERSUS DOMESTIC PRODUCTS IN CROSS-BORDER E-COMMERCE: A CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

We aim to add value to the ongoing inconsistencies by extracting models from past studies and building an overarching framework for understanding the purchase intentions of foreign and domestic products in the cross-border electronic commerce (CBEC) context. We review significant works in various disciplines and systematically extend abstractions from diverse models and theories toward iterative methods. We deconstruct and (re)construct them into the framework. We identify the importance of segmenting consumer engagement with global-local discourses and screen samples not engaging with the country of origin (COO) discussions. We pinpoint the significance of the underlying theories of social class, rational choice, social identity, COO, substitute versus complementary, schema, consumer culture, adaptive structuration, and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology. We highlight the urgency of drawing from multidisciplinary approaches to acknowledge the complex relationship between constructs of product types, social class, ethnocentrism, informedness, benefits, perceived risks, and the purchase intention of domestic and foreign products. Researchers should refine models based on consumer segments and test the framework to examine its usability. Policymakers and international marketers can refine policies and strategies by incorporating the framework's critical success factors. We fill the wide research gap in international marketing and information systems literature by offering an integrative approach that broadens our understanding of foreign versus domestic product controversies.

INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ORGANISATION OF HOTEL AND RESTAURANT COMPLEXES BY USING INTERNATIONAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES (ON THE EXAMPLE OF VARNA, BULGARIA)

The article the essence of international information systems and technologies in the hotel and restaurant sphere. The need to integrate software into the operation of hotel complexes and restaurants as a basis for the formation and strengthening of competitive advantages for business entities in the rapidly growing market of hotel and restaurant services is substantiated. The role and features of the use of individual tools of international information technologies and systems in the hotel and restaurant business are highlighted. Information and communication facilities, components and tools that enable the storage, access, monitoring, processing and transmission of information in digital form are described. The most popular and downloaded programs in the hotel and restaurant industry in the world according to the results are described. The most common trends in information systems and technologies in the hotel and restaurant business have been identified, including mobile technologies (mobile applications, chatbots, virtual queues, QR codes for menus), contactless payments, the Internet of Things, robots, and virtual tours. The use of information and communication technologies in popularity hotels in Varna is analyzed.

The review article is devoted to the analysis of the practical experience of famous world centers for the collection of soil information in databases and soil information systems. The article examines the global experience of information provision of soil research and implementation of information technologies for soil resource management. The importance of developing databases of soil parameters and properties using methods standardized and harmonized with international ones is indicated. The main concepts of soil information systems are outlined and their classification by activity levels is given. A set of criteria has been defined that outlines the purpose of creating a soil information system, its structure, the set of data that should be supplied to it, the degree of their availability to users and the degree of applicability in soil management. An overview of the largest soil information systems in the world was conducted, the principles of their construction, functioning and ways of interaction with each other were determined. The largest soil information systems are global GLOSIS (FAO GSP) and WoSIS (ISRIC), regional ESDAC (EU countries), national NASIS (United States of America), CanSIS (Canada) and ASRIS (Australia). They can be considered as the main models for building and configuring the functionality of the national soil information system, which will allow Ukraine to integrate into the international soil data exchange system. The share of our state's participation in international soil information systems and the role of the NSC "ISSAR named after O.N. Sokolovsky" in replenishing the world's soil databases have been determined. The largest number of soil profiles of Ukraine is presented in WoSIS, which receives information about soils from many national and regional databases.

ОБГРУНТУВАННЯ НЕОБХІДНОСТІ СТАНОВЛЕННЯ ДЕРЖАВНОЇ ІННОВАЦІЙНОЇ СИСТЕМИ У СФЕРІ МОРЕГОСПОДАРЮВАННЯ

The article substantiates that the essence of competitiveness at the enterprises of the maritime complex lies in the strengthening of the process of global division of labor due to the interdependence of the macroregions of the globe, as well as in the structural disproportions of their development and the unevenness of the spatial distribution of the resource base in combination with environmental and other limitations. The protectionist steps taken by the maritime states with the aim of increasing the competitiveness of all types of maritime activities are analyzed. The main vectors of activities of international programs for achieving sustainable development, which provide for the prevention and reduction of the consequences of natural disasters and anthropogenic disasters in the World Ocean, the study of the role of the World Ocean, assessment, forecasting, mitigation and adaptation to variations and climate change, improvement of the management system of biological , mineral and energy resources of the World Ocean, improvement of management and protection of marine ecosystems. The article outlines that protectionist measures, such as cargo preferences and reservation of a large part of the cargo base for national shipowners, is a common international practice, characteristic of both leading maritime states and intensively developing coastal countries. It has been proven that the general increase in the need for mineral raw materials and the ever-increasing degree of depletion of its reserves on the continental part of the Planet led to the intensification of search and exploration work for highly liquid types of minerals, primarily oil and gas, on the continental shelf and oceanic slopes. In the article, it is determined that in the interests of increasing their own competitiveness, developed maritime states are conducting a course on anticipatory development of information support for maritime activities using modern means of navigation and communication. It has been analyzed that in our country there is an increasing disconnection of information support systems for maritime activities of the state, an insufficient level of their connection with international and global information systems and networks.

10.D. Workshop: Injury Severity Classification and burden of disability measurement

Abstract Globally, injuries cause over 4.3 million deaths per year with incalculable costs for the health, legal, and social systems. Burden of disease analyses are being conducted across the world in order to map the health status of injured population, run comparisons and enable prioritization of preventive and interventional measures. Metrics of injury burden are therefore important indicators of population health that are increasingly being incorporated into national and international health information systems. To prevent injuries and their disabling health consequences, and to effectively reduce injury burden, it is essential to provide policy makers and health system planners with detailed measurements and assessments that allow them to focus resources where they are most needed and areas where more targeted policy attention might be required. However, efforts to fully understand the health outcomes of trauma patients remain inconsistent and insufficient, specifically for certain injury populations and health outcome domains. A wide variety of measures are available to track outcomes after injury in various health domains. Reaching consensus is an important step in benchmarking of outcomes across institutions and injury types to improve quality and advance the field of injury care. Modern, validated measures that are feasible and usable in both research and clinical contexts are needed to facilitate the improvement of quality and comparability of research. The workshop aims to discuss trends and variation of injury burden, which is critical to health system planning. The high human and societal costs as well as inequalities of injury mortality and burden will be highlighted based on comparisons with long-term trends. The workshop will discuss the latest developments in injury severity classification and disability measurement. The most efficient measures to calculate the valid burden of injuries will be presented and comparative measurements across EU countries will be promoted. Limitations of injury classifications and factors introducing uncertainty and potential bias in estimation of disability, will be identified. The workshop will contribute to the identification of evidence-informed tools and measurements of injury burden. Key messages • Some injury outcomes are responsible for huge individual and societal burden but are still difficult to measure. • Multiple measures are developed to assess severity and outcomes: e.g. AIS/ ISS/New ISS/ ICD-10. Efficient prevention and quality care requires validated and easy to use measures.

Comparative Study of Construction Information Classification Systems: CCI versus Uniclass 2015

By classifying BIM data, the intention is to enable different construction actors to find the data they need using software and machines. The importance of classification is growing as building projects become more international, generating more data that rely on automated processes, which help in making better decisions and operating devices. Different classification systems have been developed around the world. Each national construction information classification system (NCICS) aims to classify information on the built environment and thus meet national needs and ensure compliance with the principles of regional and international building information systems. The research purpose of this paper is to present a comparative assessment of two construction information classification systems, CCI and Uniclass 2015. The following methods were used: the expert assessment of NCICS alternatives; the assessment of NCICS alternatives; and a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of NCICS alternatives. We concluded that in the initial phase of NCICS development, CCI ontologies should be adopted as a base consisting of construction entities, spaces, and elements, with the gradual addition of complexes of buildings and infrastructure, along with roles and phases of the building life cycle (BLC). An explanatory NCICS development note should be drawn outlining the principles of classification and identification; the ontological structure; development and updating possibilities; methods of integrating existing national and international classification systems; and methods of integrating data of construction products, time, cost, or other individual characteristics.

İlgi Sıralamalarının Artırımlı Olarak Geliştirilmesi: Pennant Erişimle Desteklenen Yeni Bir Yöntem Önerisi

Purpose: Relevance ranking algorithms rank retrieved documents based on the degrees of topical similarity (relevance) between search queries and documents. This paper aims to introduce a new relevance ranking method combining a probabilistic topic modeling algorithm with the “pennant retrieval” method using citation data. Data and Method: We applied this method to the iSearch corpus consisting of c. 435,000 physics papers. We first ran the topic modeling algorithm on titles and summaries of all papers for 65 search queries and obtained the relevance ranking lists. We then used the pennant retrieval to fuse the citation data with the existing relevance rankings, thereby incrementally refining the results. The outcome produced better relevance rankings with papers covering various aspects of the topic searched as well as the more marginal ones. The Maximal Marginal Relevance (MMR) algorithm was used to evaluate the retrieval performance of the proposed method by finding out its effect on relevance ranking algorithms that we used. Findings: Findings suggest that the terms used in different contexts in the papers might sometimes be overlooked by the topic modeling algorithm. Yet, the fusion of citation data to relevance ranking lists provides additional contextual information, thereby further enriching the results with diverse (interdisciplinary) papers of higher relevance. Moreover, results can easily be re-ranked and personalized. Implications: We argue that once it is tested on dynamic corpora for computational load, robustness, replicability, and scalability, the proposed method can in time be used in both local and international information systems such as TR-Dizin, Web of Science, and Scopus. Originality: The proposed method is, as far as we know, the first one that shows that relevance rankings produced with a topic modeling algorithm can be incrementally refined using pennant retrieval techniques based on citation data.

Advanced technologies and international business: A multidisciplinary analysis of the literature

Advanced digital technologies, such as the Internet of Things, blockchain, big data analytics and augmented reality, are gradually transforming the way multinational firms do business. Due to the extent of this transformation many scholars argue that the integration of these technologies marks the commencement of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). However, the question how these advanced technologies impact international business activities needs further attention. To this end, we adopt a multidisciplinary approach to review the related literature in international business (IB), general management, information systems, and operations research. We include the two latter fields, because advanced technologies have received more attention in these bodies of literature. Based on our analysis, we discuss the implications of these technologies for international business. Further, we highlight the drivers of technology utilisation by multinational firms and likely outcomes. We also provide future research avenues.

COVID-19 Pandemic: Economy Transformation in Conditions of Restrictions and Uncertainty

COVID-19 pandemic drastically changed life of people all over the world. The economic situation has become unique in new history. When restrictive measures were introduced economy in the majority of countries functioned according to the temporary economic model. The article studies key economic figures characterizing the economic situation during the first wave of the pandemic, as well as changes in customer behavior of people connected with restrictive measures. The author supports the opinion of some researchers that leaders of many states should pay serious attention to the development of economy of disasters, as COVID-19 pandemic is a real disaster. In this connection the most important aspects of state policy should include: provision of the overall country security and safe life in the critical situation, the development of international public health services and information systems based on network on-line platforms, industry 4.0 and artificial intellect. Proposals were put forward aimed at designing the complex concept of economy of disasters, which shall be developed on the basis of advanced achievements in the fields linked with providing safe life of people. According to the author this concept should be ratified by heads of leading states of the world. Conclusions concerning prospects of developing global economy after COVID-19 pandemic were drawn.

DIGITAL SOCIETY LIBRARY IN PROVIDING SYSTEM SUPPORT TO SCIENCE RESEARCH

The purpose of the article is to review and analyze the participation of libraries in the maintenance of modern research information management systems that provide scientists with the necessary digital services and effectively support digital scientific communication. The methodology of the study is a set of system analysis of changes in the providing of libraries to support research in the digital environment. The scientific novelty of the article is the generalization of key trends in the development of integrated library systems for supporting scientific activities and the development of the concept of the library portal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Conclusions. Modern research information systems are an effective tool for managing research data. A critical aspect of supporting such systems is the quality of the data that librarians can provide at the appropriate level. The library portal of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, created and maintained by the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, built on the principles of integrated scientific information systems, will preserve and provide access to documentary heritage sources and modern sources of scientific information, provide a single access point to consolidated achievements academic science, will ensure the integration of portal metadata into international scientific information systems. Document or Lose It-On the Importance of Information Management for Genetic Resources Conservation in Genebanks.

Genebanks play an important role in the long-term conservation of plant genetic resources and are complementary to the conservation of diversity in farmers’ fields and in nature. In this context, documentation plays a critical role. Without well-structured documentation, it is not possible to make statements about the value of a resource, especially with regard to its potential for breeding and research. In particular, comprehensive information management is a prerequisite for the further development of genebank collections. This requires detailed information about the composition of a collection, thus allowing statements about which species and/or regions of origin are under-represented. This task is of strategic importance, especially due to the threats to crop plants and their wild relatives caused by advancing climate change. Both the actual conservation management and the fulfilment of legal obligations depend on information. Hence, documentation units have been established in almost all genebanks worldwide. They all face the challenge that knowledge about genebank accessions must be permanently managed and passed on across generations. International standards such as Multi-Crop Passport Descriptors (MCPD) have been established for the exchange of data between genebanks, and allow the operation of international information systems, such as the World Information and Early Warning System on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (WIEWS), the European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO) or Genesys.

Mapping the patchy legislative landscape of non-native tree species in Europe

AbstractEurope has a history rich in examples of successful and problematic introductions of trees with a native origin outside of Europe (non-native trees, NNT). Many international legal frameworks such as treaties and conventions and also the European Union have responded to the global concern about potential negative impacts of NNT that may become invasive in natural ecosystems. It is, however, national and regional legislation in particular that affects current and future management decisions in the forest sector and shapes the landscapes of Europe. We identified all relevant legal instruments regulating NNT, the different legal approaches and the regulatory intensity in 40 European countries (no microstates). Information on hard and effective soft law instruments were collected by means of a targeted questionnaire and consultation of international and national legislation information systems and databases. In total, 335 relevant legal instruments were in place in June/July 2019 to regulate the use of NNT in the investigated 116 geopolitical legal units (countries as well as sub-national regions with their own legislation). Countries and regions were empirically categorized according to ad hoc-defined legislation indicators. These indicators pay respect to the general bans on the introduction of non-native species, the generally allowed and prohibited NNT, approval mechanisms and specific areas or cases where NNT are restricted or prohibited. Our study revealed a very diverse landscape of legal frameworks across Europe, with a large variety of approaches to regulating NNT being pursued and the intensity of restriction ranging from very few restrictions on species choice and plantation surface area to the complete banning of NNT from forests. The main conclusion is that there is a clear need for more co-ordinated, science-based policies both at the local and international levels to enhance the advantages of NNT and mitigate potential negative effects.

An Emerging Scholar’s Guide to the Leading International Information Systems and Business Analytics Research Resources and Publication Outlets

Many emerging scholars in information systems (IS) or analytics often feel overwhelmed as to the actual research resources they should be using for researching their topics. Perhaps even more overwhelming is trying to understand which journals and outlets are of the highest quality, versus those that are of lesser quality. This is a particularly important consideration for career advancement, because the quality of outlets one publishes in is a key consideration in tenure and promotion decisions. In fact, it is the primary consideration at top business schools, which routinely require ‘elite’ journal publications for tenure and promotion. Thus, publishing in too low quality of outlets can have very deleterious effects on one’s compensation and career advancement. Unfortunately, many new scholars start off with a publication focus that they later come to regret because the realize too late they weren’t focused on high enough quality research and outlets. Thus, the purpose of this pragmatic working paper is to share research and publication tips for budding IS and analytics scholars, so that they can start off on a solid foundation and avoid some of these common mistakes. I start by overviewing key library and online research resources that every IS and analytics scholar should be familiar with. I also overview leading resources that provide scholars with electronic access to working papers and forthcoming papers, and resources that provide other social networking and knowledge exchange opportunities. Meanwhile, during my career I have conducted substantial research and scientometrics and journals rankings, so I next overview some of these studies, and then I lay out my understanding of what is generally considered the top IS and analytics journals. I also list the key top journals in affiliated fields that IS and analytics researchers also tend to use — especially those who work at business schools.
