The International American Moroccan Agricultural, Health, and Life Sciences Conference (AMAHLS Conference; https://amahls.org) is an international conference organized by the High Council of Moroccan American Scholars and Academics (HC-MASA; www.hc-masa.org) in collaboration with various universities and research institutes in Morocco. AMAHLS V was held on December 13-14, 2022 in Tangier, Morocco and comprises the First Cannabis and Hemp Sciences and Entrepreneurship Day (CHSE I). The current proceedings summarizes abstracts from 80 oral presentations and 50 posters that were presented during AMAHLS V Conference.

Comparison of short and long forms of the Flinders program of chronic disease SELF-management for participants starting SGLT-2 inhibitors for congestive heart failure (SELFMAN-HF): protocol for a prospective, observational study.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) causes significant morbidity and mortality. It is an epidemic, and costs are escalating. CHF is a chronic disease whose trajectory includes stable phases, periods of decompensation, and finally palliation. Health services and medical therapies must match the various patient needs. Chronic disease self-management (CDSM) programmes that are patient-focused, identify problems and set actionable goals that appear as a logical, cost-friendly method to navigate patient journeys. There have been challenges in standardising and implementing CHF programmes. SELFMAN-HF is a prospective, observational study to evaluate the feasibility and validity of the SCRinHF tool, a one-page self-management and readmission risk prediction tool for CHF, with an established, comprehensive CDSM tool. Eligible patients will have CHF with left ventricular ejection fraction <40% and commenced sodium glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2-i) within 6 months of recruitment. The primary endpoint is the 80% concordance in readmission risk predicted by the SCRinHF tool. The study will recruit >40 patients and is expected to last 18 months. This study has been approved by the St Vincent's ethics committee (approval no. LRR 177/21). All participants will complete a written informed consent prior to enrolment in the study. The study results will be disseminated widely via local and international health conferences and peer-reviewed publications.

The role of the World Health Organization

The need for concerted global health collaboration predated the foundation of the World Health Organization (WHO). With the emergence of international trading and travel in the 1800s, deadly cholera epidemics necessitated a mechanism of international cooperation for disease prevention and control. Conferences such as the International Sanitary Convention in Paris in 1851 were examples of initial collaborative efforts to manage disease that crossed international borders. At the end of World War II (WW2) in 1945, there was a resolve to establish an organisation dedicated to global health. In 1948, at the International Health Conference in New York, 51 members of the United Nations and 10 other nations finalised the constitution for a WHO. This constitution still guides the WHO today.

An Analysis of COVID-19 of the Role of Promotion of Chinese Public Health

With the development of the COVID-19, more and more countries have paid little attention to it to attach great importance to it. Among them, China has been committed to China's public health and international health. First, China's strict prevention of epidemic situation use; Second, at the international health conference, China and other countries worked out plans together. However, China's epidemic prevention and control still has certain limitations, mainly in two aspects. First, during the epidemic period, the rescue of emergencies was not in place; Second, China's technology still needs considerable development. Therefore, with the help of a scientific analysis model, this paper makes a comprehensive study on the role of China in public health. The prediction of the analysis is extracted from the methodological system suitable for public health system research (Chinese health resources lichengyue, etc.), An empirical study on the dependency structure and Risk Spillover Effect between China and the global stock market under the impact of the COVID-19 based on msgarch EVT copula model (Journal of Shanghai Business University, Su Zhi, etc.) and public crisis and individual self-education awakening: Humanistic evidence for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic (Journal of Hebei Normal University, tianyangyi). According to the development of COVID-19, these three articles have launched a series of discussions and studies around the theoretical and practical problems to be solved in the construction of public health system, and summarized the corresponding methods. The conclusions of this paper are within the scope: (1) through the policy comparison between China and other countries, it is concluded that China attaches great importance to the epidemic situation. During the epidemic period, China promotes the preventive role, highlights the style of a big country, and plays a decisive role in the international health organization. (2) Even if China has some shortcomings, it is already making efforts to improve and go hand in hand with other countries.

Health and environment from adaptation to adaptivity: a situated relational account

The definitions and conceptualizations of health, and the management of healthcare have been challenged by the current global scenarios (e.g., new diseases, new geographical distribution of diseases, effects of climate change on health, etc.) and by the ongoing scholarship in humanities and science. In this paper we question the mainstream definition of health adopted by the WHO—‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’ (WHO in Preamble to the constitution of the World Health Organization as adopted by the international health conference, The World Health Organization, 1948)—and its role in providing tools to understand what health is in the contemporary context. More specifically, we argue that this context requires to take into account the role of the environment both in medical theory and in the healthcare practice. To do so, we analyse WHO documents dated 1984 and 1986 which define health as ‘coping with the environment’. We develop the idea of ‘coping with the environment’, by focusing on two cardinal concepts: adaptation in public health and adaptivity in philosophy of biology. We argue that the notions of adaptation and adaptivity can be of major benefit for the characterization of health, and have practical implications. We explore some of these implications by discussing two recent case studies of adaptivity in public health, which can be valuable to further develop adaptive strategies in the current pandemic scenario: community-centred care and microbiologically healthier buildings.

Translational research in healthcare is not only useful and satisfying for the researchers to bring their work to market but it would also support public health by bringing affordable, attainable and scalable solutions to the community at large. This is of high significance because instead of increasing the GDP spent in public health, we should focus on the increasing the translational research spending, as this would lead to improved solutions. Hence, the public health offering would reach a larger community at an improved cost. The COVID-19 pandemic and the huge number of lives it claimed exposes challenges in the public health. The pandemic has caused economic and social disruption to millions of people around the world, with many falling into extreme poverty. In early 2021, it was estimated nearly 690 million people are undernourished and by end of 2021 to increase further by 132 million (Joint statement by ILO, FAO, IFAD and WHO. Over the past decade, public health research has started playing a major role in Indian academic settings. COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the role of public health. However, the potential of using technological advancement has not been fully utilised. This is where translational research and public health can play a role to tap the full potential of technology. This review paper explores the public health practices to understand the different practices to examine how both public health and translational research can cross-fertilise. It concludes with a short discussion on implications on policymakers.

RHM, Interdisciplinarity, and an International Public Health Conference

Building connections with professionals in subject matter disciplines—practitioners and/or academics—is a growing area of interest for many scholars working in the rhetoric of health and medicine (RHM). However, strategies for creating and building meaningful, productive interdisciplinary relationships has not been a central theme in RHM-focused scholarship. This entry endeavors to address this gap by using RHM’s emerging version of the “dialogue” genre to describe the author’s experience co-chairing the communications track for an international public health conference. The author weaves in commentary from contributors who participated in the conference and discusses and reflects upon two key challenges that emerged: 1) differences in language choice/terminology, and 2) epistemic conflict. Where are the female experts? Perceptions about the absence of female presenters at a Digital Health Conference in Bolivia.

Gender disparities exist worldwide related to female representation in digital health initiatives especially in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Upstream approaches and policy implementation has been effective in some countries to reduce the gender gap in the areas of political and sector leadership. At an international digital health conference in Bolivia, all-male expert panels presented their research and innovations to audiences from the Bolivian national and regional health departments and private and non-governmental organization heath leaders. An in-depth qualitative analysis of participant perspectives related to the absence of female presenters at this digital health conference in Bolivia was performed. Using a cross-sectional research design, the questionnaire rated the respondents' satisfaction using Likert scales and their perspectives using open-ended questions. A multidisciplinary team of coders reviewed the respondents' responses in detail and developed general themes. The sample consisted of 80 respondents who completed the questionnaire from the 115 people attending the conference, giving a 70% response rate (80/115). Respondents were broadly represented in terms of gender, age, occupation and experience using digital health tools. The code structure contained five primary codes each reflecting sets of ideas and possible solutions for gender equality in science and health technology in Bolivia. The five recurrent themes, ranked from the most common mentioned to the least common, were: (I) opportunities and incentives (38%); (II) indifference (23%); (III) role models (18%); (IV) capacity strengthening and empowerment (15%); (V) norms and policies (7%). The results of this study can be useful for preparing a more representative digital health field in Bolivia overtime. Conference respondents provide key recommendations to reduce gender inequality at digital health conferences and in the field. This study provides evidence from Bolivian health workers and officials on their perspectives related to the absence of female presenters at an international digital health conference and their suggestions for optimizing female participation and leadership at conferences and in the digital health field going forward.

A Literature Review: The Used of PROSPER Model in Guidance and Counseling Services for Improving Students Mental Health

&lt;em&gt;Internationally, in the past two decades, the issue of mental health has been the subject of discussion in the world health forum. Since 1946, at the International Health Conference, WHO released the definition of healthy humans as a condition in which an individual achieves "... not merely being free from disease, but capable of achieving physical, mental and social well-being." The definition has major consequences on the role of member states, including Indonesia, to put more effort in realizing the mental health of its people. One of the real efforts that can be done is to improve the mental health of students as the next generation of the nation, through guidance and counseling services based on the PROSPER model. The PROSPER model is a new scope in mental health, covering seven key elements that contribute to the realization of one's mental health namely: positivity, relationship, outcomes, strengths, purpose, engagement, and resilience. Guidance and Counseling teachers as promoters and students mental health facilitators, can integrate the PROSPER model in the program components that will be implemented. Do health care providers trust product monograph information regarding use of vaccines in pregnancy? A qualitative study.

Influenza immunization is recommended in pregnancy to prevent severe infections in pregnant women and newborns, yet vaccine uptake remains low. Studies suggest that cautionary language in vaccine product monographs regarding safety and use in pregnancy affects health care providers' perceptions of vaccine safety and how they counsel pregnant women. To conduct a qualitative analysis of health care provider perceptions of the safety of inactivated influenza vaccines and their recommendations for use in pregnancy based on product monograph language statements. Health care providers were recruited at two international health conferences and from teaching programs in Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, and Laos during September and October 2015. After reading the product monograph excerpts for three licensed inactivated influenza vaccines, participants completed a ten-item online survey with quantitative and qualitative components that captured perceptions of vaccine safety. Health care providers identified a lack of trust in manufacturers' and product monograph information. They perceived product monograph language as ambiguous and not "up-to-date" with current evidence. Health care providers wanted product monograph language that clearly conveyed evidence for the risks and benefits of the vaccine in an understandable manner. This study suggests that adopting best practices in the wording of product monographs would help to support evidence-based use of vaccines in pregnant women.

Historical evolution of the concept of health in Western medicine.

“Health” is a positive multi-dimensional concept involving a variety of features, ranging from ability to integrity, from fitness to well-being. According to the first principle of the constitution of the World Health Organization “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”. This constitution was adopted by the International Health Conference held in New York in June-July 1946 and became operative in April 1948. This classical, seventy-year old definition of the World Health Organization is nowadays considered a historical one and it stands as a fundamental milestone of a diachronic track beginning, in Western medicine, with the definition of health proposed by Hippocrates and his School. For Hippocrates health was the state of equilibrium of four humours. This philosophical-naturalistic definition has been flanked in the history of Western medicine by various concepts of health and disease, alternatively based, according to different scientists and in different medical contexts and periods, on epidemiological, anatomical, physiological, functional, social and molecular perspectives. Since biomedical definitions are always prone to integration and updating, depending on the continuous achievements of medical science and bioethics, the fascinating journey through the concepts of health and disease, the fundamental milestones of which are here briefly proposed, is still in progress. Universal health coverage: The strange romance of The Lancet, MEDICC, and Cuba

As a key supporter of universal health coverage (UHC), The Lancet recently partnered with Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba (MEDICC), a non-governmental organization based in the United States, to produce a Spanish-language translation of The Lancet’s series on UHC in Latin America. This translation was launched as part of CubaSalud 2015, an international health conference held during April 2015 in Havana, Cuba. Despite its often ambiguous definition, UHC usually refers to a financial reform extending insurance coverage in varying degrees to a larger part of a country’s population. UHC does not mean “healthcare for all” (HCA) – a healthcare delivery system that provides equal services for the entire population regardless of an individual’s or family’s financial resources. UHC has received wide criticism because it does not necessarily create a unified, accessible system; because it usually encourages a role for private, for-profit insurance corporations; and because it in-volves tiered benefits packages with differing bene-fits for the poor and non-poor. Although the UHC orientation has become “hegemonic” in global health policy circles, its ideological assumptions have not been confirmed empirically. The editors of The Lancet and MEDICC Review should explain more fully the decisions to translate the UHC series and to launch the translation in Havana, and they should provide “equal time” for critiques of UHC and presentations of endeavors to achieve HCA
