BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF ENDOCROWN STUDIES PUBLISHED IN ENDODONTIC JOURNALS WITHIN THE SCOPE OF SCI-EXPANDED

Purpose: This study aimed to make a bibliometric analysis of endocrown studies published in the International Endodontic Journal (IEJ), Journal of Endodontic (JOE) and Australian Endodontic Journal (AEJ) within the scope of Science Citation Index Expanded (Sci-Exp). Methods: Studies published in IEJ, JOE and AEJ journals were determined using the keyword 'endocrown'. The article title, keywords and content of the articles were examined. The publications were recorded, including the journal, publication year, countries where the authors were located, type of publication, number of citations. Results: One abstract, three research articles, and four reviews, were retrieved. Five of these studies were published in the IEJ and the remaining three were in the JOE, any publication related to endocrowns could not be found in the AEJ. JOE was superior to IEJ in terms of the number of citations. The number of researchers participating in studies was the highest in Brazil. Conclusion: Limited number of articles were found on endocrowns in the endodontic journals within the scope of sci-expanded. All reviews and the abstract were included in IEJ whereas all of the research articles were published in JOE. The most cited publication was a research article in JOE.

Premixed calcium silicate-based root canal sealers have better biological properties than AH Plus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of in vivo animal studies and in vitro laboratory studies

Abstract Objectives: The aim was to determine whether premixed calcium silicate-based root canal sealers have better biological properties than AH Plus. Materials and Methods: Searches of studies published up to January 2023 were performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE and EMBASE and via other methods (databases of the International Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodontics, and gray literature). The inclusion criteria were in vivo animal and in vitro studies that analyzed the response in the dorsal subcutaneous tissue of rats, cell viability, and genotoxicity. Systematic Review Centre for Laboratory Animal Experimentation Risk of Bias (RoB) tool for in vivo studies and modified CONSORT checklist for in vitro were appraised. Meta-analysis was performed using the Stata. Results: Fifty-two studies were included. In the RoB, in vivo studies fulfilled 20%–50% of the items and in vitro 60%–100%. The studies included in the meta-analysis demonstrated better histocompatibility with the premixed calcium silicate-based sealers at 30 days and greater cell viability with these sealers when used in undiluted extracts in experimental period of 72 h and in extracts with 1:2 and 1:4 dilution in 24 and 72 h. In contrast, no difference between materials was found concerning genotoxicity. Conclusion: Premixed calcium silicate-based root canal sealers have better histocompatibility and are less cytotoxic than the epoxy resin-based sealer AH Plus, demonstrating favorable biological behavior.

Exploring vital pulp Therapies: A bibliometric analysis of the most cited articles

AimThe aim of this study was to identify and analyze the most cited articles on vital pulp therapies. MethodologyBibliographical data related to the abstract, citations, keywords, and other relevant information was extracted using different combinations of keywords. Further evaluation and visualization of the selected data were performed with the help of various tools, including MS Excel, Microsoft Word, Google open refine, BibExcel, and VOS viewer. An initial search revealed 91 documents, of which 40 were chosen for further analysis. We used the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test and Spearman correlation coefficient test, and our adopted significance level was p < 0.05. ResultsIn total, the articles received 1,905 citations, with six of them receiving at least 100 citations. Among the top 40 articles, the United States of America (10 articles) and Ireland (6 articles) were the countries with the highest number of cited articles. The journals “Journal of Endodontics” (14 articles; 650 citations) and “International Endodontic Journal” (13 articles; 577 citations) published most of the articles among the 50 most cited ones. Duncan H. was the author with the highest number of works cited (11 articles; 339 citations). Of the articles, systematic reviews accounted for 32%, literature reviews for 14%, in vitro experimental studies for 12%, clinical trials for 8%. Among the biomaterials used in vital pulp therapies, mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was discussed in 37 articles (74%), followed by calcium hydroxide, mentioned in 30 studies (60%). Interestingly, the publication year did not demonstrate a significant impact on citation count. ConclusionThe present study provided a detailed list of the top 50 most cited and classic articles on vital pulp therapies. This will help researchers, students, and clinicians in the field of endodontics with an impressive source of information.

A critical look at outcome measures: Comparison between four dental research journals by use of a hierarchical model.

To assess the status quo of outcome measures used in treatment studies in Endodontics, and potentially identify strategies for improvement, by (i) systematically assessing the outcome measures using a conceptual model and (ii) comparing these with measures used in corresponding studies in the adjacent fields. The International Endodontic Journal, Caries Research, The Journal of Clinical Periodontology and The Journal of Oral & Facial Pain and Headache were selected to cover four adjacent dental disciplines. In each journal, the 50 most recent consecutive publications fulfilling inclusion criteria were included. A hierarchical model for diagnostic imaging studies was modified to assess studies related to treatment. The model comprised six levels, with technical as the lowest level and societal as the highest. Extracted data included study origin, study type, and identified outcome measures. Fisher's Exact Tests with Bonferroni corrections compared studies. p < .05 was considered statistically significant. Amongst 756 publications, the 200 most recent studies matching the inclusion criteria were identified. Less than half (36.5%) assessed the clinical, patient, or societal aspects of treatment; 10.0% in International Endodontic Journal, 28.0% in Caries Research, 38.0% in Journal of Clinical Periodontology, and 70.0% in Journal of Oral & Facial Pain and Headache (p < .001). According to included publications, research on treatment within the endodontic field is mainly focusing on technical and biological outcomes. The benefits of patients and society were less frequently examined than in corresponding journals in adjacent disciplines. When designing studies, including higher-level outcomes should be considered.

Role of biodentine in endodontics: a bibliometric and scientometric analysis

Objective. Vital Pulp therapy using Biodentine has advanced, introducing and allowing new procedures and treatments, hence medical education should focus on research and publication. The aim of the study was to perform a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of the literature on the role of biodentine in endodontics from 2013 to 2023.&#x0D; Methodology: A bibliometric and scientometric quantitative study formed the basis of the methodology. Scientific production indicators were generated from 87 documents selected from Scopus using English keywords ("Biodentine", "Endodontic").&#x0D; Results: Since 2016, the number of papers published on this topic increased (69%), indicating a growing interest towards this material. Brazil is the country with the highest scientific interest (19%), and the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho with the most publications (n=9). The International Endodontic Journal received 344 citations, Tanomaru-Filho M. (n=6) being the most cited.&#x0D; Conclusion: It is concluded that the role of biodentine in endodontics has grown not only in production and authorship, but also in scope and medical research, incorporating these resources in various scenarios and clinical settings.

A bibliometric comparison of undergraduate and postgraduate endodontic education publications: The topics, trends, and challenges.

This study employs bibliometric analysis to compare knowledge units and main topics in undergraduate and postgraduate endodontic education, aiming to identify similarities, differences, and connections. The insights gained are expected to inform the future of two-stage education to enhance continuity, highlighting evolving trends, challenges, and development directions. Citation data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collections (WOSCC) database and non-WOSCC databases with two separate search formulas. VOSviewer and CiteSpace were used to analyze the distribution of research by publication years, citation-sources, co-authorship network of authors and countries, and clusters of keywords. The focus on undergraduate education preceded postgraduate education by nearly a decade. The United Kingdom has emerged as the most prominent contributor to endodontic literature at both levels, with the International Endodontic Journal representing the most voluminous and cited resource in this domain. Dummer is recognized as the most prolific author in undergraduate endodontic education, while Gulabivala spearheads the most extensive cluster of postgraduate education. Keywords clustering analysis reveals that undergraduate education places greater emphasis on fundamental knowledge, while postgraduate education concentrates more on clinical practice. Descriptive analyses from non-WOSCC databases align with the topics and findings from WOSCC-based bibliometric analysis. This bibliometric analysis revealed the emphasis on fundamental knowledge and teaching techniques at the undergraduate level versus advanced clinical knowledge and techniques at the postgraduate level, which originated from different learning aims and contexts. Updating the curriculum to meet the latest practices and innovations is crucial for aligning learning objectives with current and future needs, and the connection between the two levels remains a central challenge in endodontic education.

The Impact of the Preferred Reporting Items for Case Reports in Endodontics (PRICE) 2020 Guidelines on the Reporting of Endodontic Case Reports.

Aim The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of the Preferred Reporting Items for Case reports in Endodontics (PRICE) 2020 guidelineon the reporting of published endodontic case reports (CRs). Methodology All case reports published in the International EndodonticJournal, European Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodonticsand Restorative Dentistry and Endodontics, in the year before and after the release of PRICE 2020, were included for analysis. Two panels comprising dentists scored case reports against a scoring system adapted from the guideline. Individual items were scored up to a maximum of 1; scores were then summated to provide an overall maximum of 47 for each CR. Each report provided an overall percentage adherence, and panelagreement was calculated using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Disagreement on scoring was discussed until a consensus was reached. Scores before and after PRICE guideline publication were compared using an unpaired two-tailed t test. Results A total 19 CRs were identified in both the pre- and post-PRICE guideline publication.Mean adherence to PRICE 2020 increased by 7.9% (p=0.003) from 70.0%±8.89 to 77.9%±6.23 following its publication. Agreement between panels was moderate (ICC pre-PRICE: 0.673 {p=0.011}; ICC post-PRICE: 0.742 {p=0.003}). Items 1a, 6c, 6e, 6f, 6g, 6j, 6q, 6s, 7a, 9a, 11a, 12cand 12d experienced a fall in compliance. Conclusion The PRICE 2020 guideline has resulted in a modest improvement in the reporting of endodontic case reports. Greater awareness and a wider acceptance and implementation of the guideline in endodontic journals are needed to improve adherence to the novel guideline.

Reporting quality of systematic reviews with network meta-analyses in Endodontics.

To evaluate the reporting quality of systematic reviews with network meta-analyses (NMAs) in Endodontics using the the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) for NMA checklist. The current investigation extends a recently published study in the International Endodontic Journal (Nagendrababu V, Faggion Jr CM, Pulikkotil SJ, Alatta A, Dummer PM Methodological assessment and overall confidence in the results of systematic reviews with network meta-analyses in Endodontics. International Endodontic Journal 2022;55:393-404) that assessed the methodological quality of systematic reviews with NMAs in Endodontics using the A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews (AMSTAR 2) tool. In the present study, the PRISMA for NMA checklist with 32 items was used to assess the reporting quality of the systematic reviews with NMAs (n = 12). Two independent assessors assigned '1' when an item was completely addressed, '0.5' when it was partially addressed, and '0' when it was not addressed. Disagreements were resolved through reviewer discussion until consensus was reached. If conflicts persisted, a third reviewer made the final decision. The PRISMA for NMA scores were shared with the relevant authors of the individual reviews to reduce the likelihood of misinterpretation and verify the scores assigned.The results for each individual item of the PRISMA-NMA items were calculated by summing the individual scores awarded; the maximum score for each item was 12. All the systematic reviews with NMAs adequately reported the following items: Title, Introduction section (Objectives), Methods section (Eligibility criteria and Information sources), Results section (Study selection, Study characteristics and Risk of bias within studies), and Discussion section (Summary of evidence). The items that were reported least often were the "geometry of the network" and "the summary of network geometry" with only 2 manuscripts (17%) including these items. A number of the items in the PRISMA-NMA checklist were adequately addressed in the NMAs; however, none adequately reported all the PRISMA-NMA items. The inadequacies of published NMAs that have been identified should be taken into consideration by authors of NMAs in Endodontics and by editors when managing the peer review process.In future, researchers who are writing systematic reviews with NMAs should comply with the PRISMA-NMA checklist. None of the included systematic reviews with NMA adequately reported all the PRISMA-NMA items. Inadequate reporting of a systematic review with NMA increases the possibility that it will provide invalid results. Therefore, authors should follow the PRISMA-NMA guidelines when reporting systematic reviews with NMA in Endodontics.

Editorial

I am delighted to present this special issue of the International Endodontic Journal that has a focus on ‘Treatment outcomes in Endodontics’. With the demise of Endodontic Topics (Wiley) several years ago, it became obvious that a forum for narrative reviews written by world-leading authors in the field of Endodontology was needed. The IEJ, as the world-leading journal in the specialty of Endodontology, is in an ideal place to fill the vacuum created by the loss of Endodontic Topics and has initiated a plan to attract a wide range of review articles on the most important themes and topics within the specialty. This special issue contains reviews on ‘Treatment outcomes in Endodontics’—with a focus on the outcomes of a range of clinical treatments undertaken within the specialty. The review articles have critically appraised current evidence on the outcome (success/failure) of clinical procedures provided in Endodontics. In 2022, two special issues on ‘Research methods and experimental models in Endodontology’ and two special issues on the ‘Present status and future directions in clinical Endodontics’ were published. ‘Research methods and experimental models in Endodontology’ has an emphasis on a critical analysis of the status of research in Endodontology. The reviews critically appraise current experimental methods as well as provide a clear direction for future research to use more appropriate and valid experimental methodologies that have more direct application and translation to clinical endodontics. The landscape of endodontic education research area: A bibliometric analysis.

Educational research is essential for rationalizing curriculum design, improving evaluation systems, and updating teaching content. This bibliometric study aimed at analyzing the characteristics of publications relevant to endodontic education, thus forming a comprehensive scope of this research area. The search was conducted in the Web of Science Core Collection database in May 2022. Knowledge units of the included publications, such as year of publication, journal, country/institution/author, keywords, and highly cited articles/references, were analyzed. The United States ranked first in the number of articles with a total of 17 articles. The majority of included articles were published in Journal of Dental Education (n=25), International Endodontic Journal (n=21), and European Journal of Dental Education (n=14). The top 3 most frequent keywords were Endodontics, Education, and Root canal treatment. The main topic in endodontic education were curriculum, preclinical education, educational technology, and continuing education. Forming a full scope of the endodontic research area, this bibliomertic analysis can help mine the hot topic, predict the frontiers in the field and provide the data necessary to determine the direction of research, rationalize resource allocation, and formulate policy.

Role of mineral trioxide aggregate in dentistry: A bibliometric analysis using Scopus database.

Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has a long history of providing predictable clinical outcomes in dental applications especially in endodontic procedures. This bibliometric analysis aimed at evaluating the advancements of research in mineral trioxide aggregate and its use in the field of dentistry, together with the detection of most significant authors, organizations, countries, journals, papers, and the exploration of commonly used keywords using a structured approach. The search was conducted using the Elsevier's Scopus database, gathering publication information related to MTA published from 1993 and 2021 July. Metadata comprising of titles, abstracts, keywords, authors, organizations, and countries were obtained. Bibliometric evaluators with respect to authors, articles published, journals, keywords, and top countries were scrutinized. Data was analyzed using VOS viewer. Between 1993 and 2021, an uptrend in the research performed on MTA was identified. Researchers from United States, Brazil, and Iran actively contributed on MTA, while papers from USA were highly cited. The Journal of Endodontics along with International Endodontic Journal were the top contributing academic journals. Hacettepe University, Turkey and Cardiff University from United Kingdom were the top most contributing organizations. Mahmoud Torabinejad was the most cited author. Most commonly used keywords included Mineral trioxide aggregate, silicate, oxide, root canal filling material. The global rise in the number of publications on mineral trioxide aggregate, tremendous networking and citations have been identified amongst various organizations, authors, and nations through this bibliometric analysis.

Effectiveness of root canal filling materials and techniques for treatment of apical periodontitis: A systematic review.

Apical periodontitis (AP) is an inflammatory disease of the apical periodontium as sequelae of pulp death. It is managed by disinfection and filling of the root canal space. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate whether obturation techniques and materials used for root canal filling led to the management of AP. A systematic review protocol was written following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) checklist and registered on the international prospective register of systematic reviews (PROSPERO; CRD42021260275) including two populations, interventions, comparisons, outcomes and time (PICOT) for the research questions querying the effectiveness of obturation techniques (PICOT 1) and materials (PICOT 2) for the management of AP. Electronic searches were conducted on PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus and Embase search engines. Searches on International Endodontic Journal, Journal of Endodontics, Clinical Oral Investigations, Journal of Dental Research and Journal of Dentistry websites were also conducted, until May 2021. Both primary (tooth survival) and secondary outcomes were evaluated. The risk of bias was assessed by Cochrane RoB2 for the randomized and ROBINS-I for the nonrandomized trials. The search strategy identified 1652 studies, with 1600 excluded on the title and abstract screening, leaving 52 studies for full-text screening. In total, 10 studies met the inclusion criteria. The obturation technique and materials used did not affect the outcome of AP. Vertical compaction resulted in faster resolution of periapical lesions. The oral health-related quality of life of patients treated with lateral condensation exhibited poorer outcomes compared with single matched cone after 6months of recall. The inclusion and exclusion criteria used for this systematic review enabled the capture of all the literature available on the effect of obturation techniques and materials on the outcome of AP. The data were heterogenous, and a number of articles investigating obturation techniques had no information on the materials and techniques used as they looked at the quality of fill. Included studies did not find any difference between different procedures (PICOT 1) and materials (PICOT 2). The risk of bias was high, thus the findings should be interpreted with caution. Outcomes of primary root canal therapy: An updated systematic review of longitudinal clinical studies published between 2003 and 2020.

BackgroundA comprehensive effort to evaluate outcomes of primary root canal therapy (RCT) between 1966 and 2002 was published by Ng et al. (2007, International Endodontic Journal, 40, 921; 2008, International Endodontic Journal, 41, 6). Changes in endodontic materials and treatment methods warrant an updated analysis of outcomes.ObjectivesThis study aimed to (1) quantify the success rates of primary RCT published between 2003 and 2020; and (2) investigate the influence of some characteristics known/suspected to be associated with treatment outcomes.MethodsAn electronic search was performed in the following databases (01‐01‐2003 to 12‐31‐2020): Pubmed, Embase, CINHAL, Cochrane and Web of Science. Included study designs were longitudinal clinical studies (randomized control trials, cohort studies, retrospective observational studies). Studies with at least twelve‐months of post‐operative review and success rates based on clinical and radiographic criteria were analysed. The terms ‘strict’ (complete resolution of periapical lesion) or ‘loose’ (reduction in size of existing periapical lesion) were used to describe the outcome criteria. Weighted, pooled success rates were calculated. Random effects meta‐regression models were used to investigate potential sources of statistical heterogeneity. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to evaluate for quality assessment of the included studies.ResultsForty‐two studies were included in the review. Meta‐analyses showed that the weighted pooled success rates were estimated to be 92.6% (95% CI: 90.5%–94.8%) under ‘loose criteria’ and 82.0% (95% CI: 79.3%–84.8%) under ‘strict’ criteria. The most significant areas of study heterogeneity were year of publication and qualification of operator. The majority (64.29%) of studies were considered to be of low quality of evidence.DiscussionBiological factors continue to have the most significant impact on RCT outcomes. The technological method of instrumentation had no significant effect. The quality of evidence was based primarily on study design and only randomized control trials were considered to be ‘high’ quality of evidence.ConclusionsThe reported success rates show improvement over time. Weighted success rates for studies with a minimum of four‐years follow‐up had better outcomes, compared to those with less than four years, when ‘strict criteria’ were used.RegistrationPROSPERO database (CRD42021226311).

Present status and future directions: Surgical extrusion, intentional replantation and tooth autotransplantation.

Surgical extrusion, intentional replantation and tooth autotransplantation procedures are important treatment options that clinicians may consider performing in their day-to-day clinical practice. Despite compromised teeth are generally considered for extraction, clinicians must be aware that these cases could be suitable for management by these alternative predictable treatment options. Surgical extrusion, intentional replantation or tooth autotransplantation have similar treatment protocols which includes atraumatic tooth extraction, visualisation of the root portion and replantation. Surgical extrusion is defined as the 'procedure in which the remaining tooth structure is repositioned at a more coronal/supragingival position in the same socket in which the tooth was located originally'. Intentional replantation is defined as the 'deliberate extraction of a tooth and after evaluation of root surfaces, endodontic manipulation and repair, placement of the tooth back into its original position'. Tooth autotransplantation is defined as the 'transplantation of an unerupted or erupted tooth in the same individual, from one site to another extraction site or a new surgically prepared socket'. The same team previously published a narrative review (International Endodontic Journal. 2020, 53, 1636) and European Society of Endodontology position statement (International Endodontic Journal. 2020, 54, 655) on this topic in International Endodontic Journal. The aim of the current updated review was to provide the reader a complete overview and background on these procedures, to established clear clinical protocols and step-by-step for technically perform these therapies in their clinical practice and to establish future directions on the topics. The clinicians must periodically update their knowledge about these three procedures to achieve success.

Metallurgical Tests in Endodontics: A Narrative Review.

Since there are no reviews of the literature on this theme, the aim of this narrative review is to summarize the metallurgical tests used in endodontics, pointing out their functional use and their pros and cons and giving readers a user-friendly guide to serve as an orientation aid in the plethora of metallurgical tests. With this purpose, a literature search for articles published between January 2001 and December 2021 was conducted, using the electronic database PubMed to collect all published articles regarding the metallurgical tests used in endodontics for the evaluation of NiTi rotary instruments. The search was conducted using the following keywords: “metallurgy”, “differential scanning calorimetry” (DSC), “X-ray diffraction” (XRD), “atomic force microscopy” (AFM), “energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy” (EDS), “focused ion beam analysis” (FIB) and “Auger electron spectroscopy” (AES) combined with the term “endodontics” or “NiTi rotary instruments”. Considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, of the 248 articles found, only 81 were included in the narrative review. According to the results, more than 50% of the selected articles were published in one of the two most relevant journals in endodontics: International Endodontic Journal (22.2%) and Journal of Endodontics (29.6%). The most popular metallurgical test was DSC, with 43 related articles, followed by EDS (33 articles), AFM (22 articles) and XRD (21 articles). Few studies were conducted using other tests such as FIB (2 articles), micro-Raman spectroscopy (4 articles), metallographic analysis (7 articles) and Auger electron spectroscopy (2 articles).

Dentinal microcracks induced by endodontic procedures: A scientometric and bibliometric analysis.

Background:Due to the large number of publications relating the occurrence of dental microcracks to endodontic procedures, this bibliometric study evaluated the scientific pattern and trends in literature and provided an overview of scientific production in this context.Aim:To analyze, quantify, and characterize the scientific production and trends of published articles evaluating dentinal microcracks formation after endodontic treatment procedures between 2010 and 2020 using bibliometric indicators.Materials and Methods:Published articles were found by the search in the Medline (PubMed) and Scopus database using the combination of the following keywords: Dentinal crack OR Dentinal Microcrack OR Crack formation OR Dentin Defect AND Endodontic treatment OR Root canal preparation OR Canal Preparation OR Root canal treatment OR endodontic procedures. The search was also conducted in the Journal of Endodontics and International Endodontic Journal. After inclusion and exclusion criteria application, data from all studies included were collected.Results:Among the 556 results after the search, 45 studies were included and analyzed in this bibliometry. No trend was observed in terms of the increasing number of articles over time. Most of them used an in vitro design, compared the effect of different endodontic techniques/systems for root canal instrumentation on dentinal microcracks formation, and were conducted in Turkey, Brazil, and India. Journal of Endodontics and International Endodontic Journal were the main journals with a higher number of articles published. Interestingly, studies conducted with some funding did not lead to higher citation numbers. Moreover, a relevant proportion of studies did not consider the inclusion of control groups, baseline evaluation, or statistical analysis. Micro-CT was the main technique used to evaluate microcrack presence.Conclusion:Microcrack formation after the use of different endodontic techniques/systems has been constantly evaluated in the literature. There is a pattern of methodologies used, which may explain the concentration of these studies in specific journals and countries.

The Scientific Contribution of Malaysia’s Researchers in the Field of Endodontics Based on Scopus Database: A Bibliometric Analysis

Bibliometric analyses of academic output are critical in assessing a country’s scientific performance and have ignited significant interest in recent days. However, no such study has been conducted in the field of dentistry, specifically endodontics, among Malaysia’s researchers. Hence, this study aimed to assess the publication output among researchers in Malaysia dedicating to endodontics based on the Scopus database and analyse the characteristics of selected articles as well as the publishing patterns. An electronic search based on the Scopus® database was performed from January 2001 to February 2021. Only English language articles with the first author’s affiliation from Malaysia were selected and the following parameters were extracted: title, authors, number of authors, affiliation, journal, year of publication, type of article, source, thematic categories, keywords, and number of citations. Data was analysed using Microsoft Excel software complemented by Pearson’s Chi-square and Pearson Correlation tests at 0.05 significance level. There were 119 articles included with the top-cited article received 69 citations. A total of 15 authors have 2 or more articles published, with the International Endodontic Journal published the most. Furthermore, more than half of the articles were published in Q1 and Q2 journals. Over the last two decades, there has been a substantial growth (P&lt;0.05) in the number of articles and cumulative citations, with a significant correlation (P=0.038) between them. Besides, the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Universiti Sains Malaysia published the most articles, with the bulk of them being basic research on endodontic materials. In conclusion, the rise in scientific publications suggests an increasing interest in endodontics among Malaysia’s researchers.

European Society of Endodontology position statement: The restoration of root filled teeth.

This position statement on the restoration of root filled teeth represents the consensus of an expert committee, convened by the European Society of Endodontology (ESE). Current clinical and scientific evidence, as well as the expertise of the committee, have been used to develop this statement. The aim is to provide clinicians with evidence-based principles for decision-making on the choice of restoration following the completion of root canal treatment. By discussing the evidence in relation to key topics regarding post-endodontic restoration, a series of clinical recommendations are made. The scientific basis of the recommendations made in this paper can be found in a recently published review article (Bhuva etal. 2021, International Endodontic Journal, https://doi.org/10.1111/iej.13438). It is the intention of the committee to update this statement as further evidence emerges.
