A systematic literature review of crisis management in online public opinion: evolutionary path and implications for China

PurposeThis study aims to explore the dissemination and evolutionary path of online public opinion from a crisis management perspective. By clarifying the influencing factors and dynamic mechanisms of online public opinion dissemination, this study provides insights into attenuating the negative impact of online public opinion and creating a favorable ecological space for online public opinion.Design/methodology/approachThis research employs bibliometric analysis and CiteSpace software to analyze 302 Chinese articles published from 2006 to 2023 in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database and 276 English articles published from 1994 to 2023 in the Web of Science core set database. Through literature keyword clustering, co-citation analysis and burst terms analysis, this paper summarizes the core scientific research institutions, scholars, hot topics and evolutionary paths of online public opinion crisis management research from both Chinese and international academic communities.FindingsThe results show that the study of online public opinion crisis management in China and internationally is centered on the life cycle theory, which integrates knowledge from information, computer and system sciences. Although there are differences in political interaction and stage evolution, the overall evolutionary path is similar, and it develops dynamically in the “benign conflict” between the expansion of the research perspective and the gradual refinement of research granularity.Originality/valueThis study summarizes the research results of online public opinion crisis management from China and the international academic community and identifies current research hotspots and theoretical evolution paths. Future research can focus on deepening the basic theories of public opinion crisis management under the influence of frontier technologies, exploring the subjectivity and emotionality of web users using fine algorithms and promoting the international development of network public opinion crisis management theory through transnational comparison and international cooperation.

The Evangelical Aim in the History of the Great and Mighty Kingdom of China by Juan González de Mendoza, a 16th Century European Work on China

For over five centuries, the History of the Great and Mighty Kingdom of China, written by Spanish missionary Juan González de Mendoza and published in 1585 in Rome, has captured the interest of the international academic community. However, scholarship has primarily focused on Mendoza’s depiction of China as rich and powerful, potentially overlooking the evangelical purpose of his narrative and failing to explain the correlation between the positive Chinese image and the author’s evangelical intention. This study aims to clarify the image of China presented by the Spanish author through a detailed textual analysis, concluding that Mendoza portrayed China as a rich and great nation that also had misguided beliefs and was open to evangelization. The Spanish author’s identity as an Augustinian preacher and ambassador of King Philip II of Spain to the Ming dynasty of China, as well as the global and evangelistic social context in which he lived, significantly influenced his perceptions of China. Furthermore, his hybrid profile of China was accepted in Europe at the time and became a collective memory because it embodied the spiritual context shared by the European community in the 16th century. This spiritual purpose was achieved through the idealized imagination, which serves as an affective medium in the formation of collective memory.

John Hunyadi (ca. 1395-1456). An Outline of his Political and Military Career, According to the Latest Research

The lack of modern scientific work on John Hunyadi led us six years ago to initiate the research work on a monograph dedicated to his life and times, based on a critical re-evaluation of the sources on the topic, and the older and newer literature. In the pages below, we bring to the attention of the international academic community a synthesis of our research, focusing not only on John Hunyadi's anti-Ottoman campaigns, as most historians of the topic have done before us, but also on his implications in the complicated politics of Central Europe in the mid 15th century.

The so-called “Zomia” region proposed by James Scott puts forward a new research perspective on China’s ethnic history and frontier history, but at the same time, it also cuts China’s territory and the Chinese nation in history in the conceptual change and interpretation, which “conceptually” divides China’s territory and the Chinese nation, causing a great impact on the completeness and unity of China's frontier history. This “conceptual” division has greatly impacted the integrity and unity of China’s frontier history research. The practice of forging a strong sense of the Chinese national community in the teaching and research of history in colleges and universities is conducive to enabling researchers of related specialties to establish a correct view of ethnic history and frontier history, so as to cope with the challenges of the international academic community and to take the initiative in enriching the connotation and outer edge of the Chinese nation as a community.

Analisis Pemasaran Digital Pelaku UMKM Pada Kawasan Wisata Situ Gede Kota Bogor

The proposal to designate Situ Gede in Bogor City as a Creative Economic Tourism Zone is grounded in the findings of the 2022 RIPPARDA study conducted by the Regional Planning and Development Agency of Bogor City. The envisioned development aims to shape the area as a hub for creative eco-tourism, contributing positively to Bogor City's identity with a strong emphasis on community empowerment and environmental sustainability. The region, including Situ Gede, has organically nurtured Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) over the years, playing a pivotal role in establishing it as a preferred tourist destination. UMKM entities, recognizing the evolving landscape of technology, have adeptly embraced digital marketing strategies, particularly through social media platforms and Google reviews. Research findings illuminate the presence of 11 active UMKM businesses in the Situ Gede tourism vicinity. Notably, 7 of these businesses leverage social media platforms for digital marketing, while 4 have implemented search engine optimization (SEO) and location tagging on digital maps (Geo Tag) through the Google application. The study underscores the imperative for additional guidance and support for UMKM entities to optimize their utilization of diverse digital marketing channels. It transcends the conventional use of social media platforms, extending to strategies like search engine optimization (SEO) and social media optimization (SMO). Additionally, the research advocates for training initiatives to empower UMKM entities in optimizing online sales, whether through social media platforms or popular marketplaces. This comprehensive study seeks to contribute valuable insights to the international academic community, specifically targeting submission to an international journal. By addressing the intersection of sustainable tourism and economic development in the context of creative eco-tourism zones, the research contributes to ongoing discussions on fostering local businesses and sustainable tourism practices.

Մխիթարեան միաբանութեան Վիեննայի մենաստանի պարբերականների թվայնացման նախագծի առաջին փուլի արդյունքների ներկայացում

In 2019 Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in close cooperation with Mekitarist Congregation – Vienna and Fundamental Scietific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia initiated a project – to digitize Armenian periodical and newspaper collections being prereved in the Mekitarist Congregation – Vienna library. The library website https://mechitaristlibrary.org/ presents the periodical and newspaper collections published between 1794 and 1920 from the Vienna Mekhitarist Library. All digitized materials are stored in the databases of the Fundamental Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, and are freely accessible to all. The digitization of materials is continuous, and content will be made available in the corresponding databases and websites when ready. The project also pursues other goals: openness to the international scientific world, access to knowledge for all Armenians and the international scientific and academic community, strengthening of the Armenian language, promotion and development of research work, as well as the promotion of collaboration between inter-Armenian and various Armenian and international organizations.

Research methods and early additional language learning: ethics, agency and study design

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to investigate the opinions, attitudes and experiences of early additional language learning researchers, in order to uncover whether research about children or research with children is the kind of research which is currently prevalent in the international academic community and the reasons for such state of affairs. More specifically, we explored the data collection methods and instruments used by researchers worldwide and the rationale behind their decisions, the most frequent levels of child involvement in research, and research methods which promote the highest level of active participation. Finally, we recorded ethical issues the participants deemed important when studying children’s beliefs and reflections on their language learning processes and their language proficiency. This was not done, as it is common, by analysing the published papers in the field, but rather by reaching out to the researchers themselves. An online questionnaire was used, and the responses were collected from 61 eminent researchers in the field, from 27 countries worldwide. The main results showed that research about children is still prevalent in the early additional language learning academic community but that the attitude towards research with children is largely positive, with many leaning in that direction.

Internal university labor market: problem, inevitability or expediency?

There are 2 strategic vectors of human resource management: an open or closed model. The reasons for the development or rooting of a closed model (the internal labor market) we explain by two groups of basic conditions (factors): the specifics of the external environment and the business model of the organization. Each of the conditions determines the need to attract workers with specific characteristics.The article is devoted to the study of the influence of these factors on the creation of internal labor markets in universities. The methodological framework of the study is based on human resource management and labor economics. The specificity of the business model of the university is due to the multifunctionality of its target efficiency, the complexity of the hierarchy, and the special characteristics of the goods. Also, the reasons for the emergence of closed models of human resource management are associated with bilateral and quasi-market relations in the higher education. Together, these factors explain the emergence of a special type of internal labor market. Its key characteristics are an indirect system for assessing the level of professor’s qualifications; self-selection and inbreeding as the unique institutions; implicit individual contracts as a by-product of the hidden career and the working time elasticity. In Russian universities, internal labor markets are a non-alternative model of human resource management due to the underdevelopment of infrastructure, as well as an imbalance in supply and demand in the external labor market. It is shown that the functioning of such a model will be relatively expedient when building the effective work of a university in a loose coupling net of national and international academic community.

Поздравление Алексея Джерменовича Гвишиани с 75-летним юбилеем

This article examines the scientific achievements of the editor-in-chief of the Russian Journal of Earth Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Alexei Gvishiani, and his contribution to the field of geophysics and systems analysis. Alexei is a prominent representative of the academic community, his role in the work of the RAS is shown. His scientific works and leadership qualities made significant contributions to the development of geophysics, for which he was awarded many awards and titles. His contributions to science have been widely recognized by the international academic community. The article also highlights the activities of A. Gvishiani as an outstanding organizer of science, which was carried out throughout almost all of his work at the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Embarking on the postdoc journey: Unveiling Chinese doctoral graduates' expectations and experiences

AbstractWhilst China has become home to the second largest doctoral education system in the world, with over 20% of its doctoral graduates taking up postdoctoral researcher positions inside and outside of China, a lack of information regarding the expectations of these doctoral graduates in pursuing postdocs has resulted in a failure to meet their expectations, leading to insufficient institutional support for their career development. In order to improve this situation and provide more tailored institutional support for Chinese postdocs, we conducted interviews with 30 doctoral graduates from elite Chinese universities from February 2020 to December 2021 to understand their expectations for and experiences of postdocs. The data identified four expected‐to‐accumulated capitals during postdoc experiences: personal scientific capital, discipline‐related social capital, institution‐related social capital and family‐related social capital. Among these, the primary consideration for engaging in postdocs is to enhance personal scientific capital in both qualitative and quantitative aspects. Chinese doctoral graduates who choose domestic postdocs have higher expectations for increasing institution‐based social capital, while those who go abroad expect to develop discipline‐related social capital within the international academic community. Understanding these expectations will be instrumental in developing optimal approaches to providing institutional support for the career development of Chinese postdocs.

Experimental and Numerical Evaluation of an HCCI Engine Fueled with Biogas for Power Generation under Sub-Atmospheric Conditions

Energy transition to renewable sources and more efficient technologies is needed for sustainable development. Although this transition is expected to take a longer time in developing countries, strategies that have been widely explored by the international academic community, such as advanced combustion modes and microgeneration, could be implemented more easily. However, the implementation of these well-known strategies in developing countries requires in-depth research because of the specific technical, environmental, social, and economic conditions. The present research relies on the use of biogas-fueled HCCI engines for power generation under sub-atmospheric conditions provided by high altitudes above sea level in Colombia. A small air-cooled commercial Diesel engine was modified to run in HCCI combustion mode by controlling the air–biogas mixture temperature using an electric heater at a high speed of 1800 revolutions per minute. An experimental setup was implemented to measure and control the most important experimental variables, such as engine speed, biogas flow rate, intake temperature, crank angle degree, intake pressure, NOx emissions, and in-cylinder pressure. High intake temperature requirements of around 320 ∘C were needed to achieve stable HCCI combustion; the maximum net indicated mean effective pressure (IMEPn) was around 1.5 bar, and the highest net indicated efficiency was close to 32%. Higher intake pressures and the addition of ozone to the intake mixture were numerically studied as ways to reduce the intake temperature requirements for stable HCCI combustion and improve engine performance. These strategies were studied using a one-zone model along with detailed chemical kinetics, and the model was adjusted using the experimental results. The simulation results showed that the addition of 500 ppm of ozone could reduce the intake temperature requirements by around 50 ∘C. The experimental and numerical results achieved in this research are important for the design and implementation of HCCI engines running biogas for microgeneration systems in developing countries which exhibit more difficult conditions for HCCI combustion implementation.

Dental Anthropology Research Conducted at the School of Dentistry of the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) between 2002 and 2021: A Literature Review

In the last 20 years, the Dental Anthropology and Forensic Dentistry Research Group at the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) has integrated knowledge from anthropology, dentistry, biology, paleontology and paleopathology to characterize the dental morphology of living populations in southwestern Colombia. This has been done by studying the frequency and variability of dental morphological features in populations with different ancestries, including Euro-descendants, Afro-descendants and Native Americans. The group has employed strategies such as formative research and the creation of cooperative research networks to publish and disseminate their findings on dental morphology mainly within the Colombian dental clinical context. However, these studies have been limited in their impact on the international anthropological academic community due to a lack of publication in English and refusals from some specialized journals to publish research on contemporary Colombian populations. To address this issue, this article aims to provide a literature review of the research on dental anthropology carried out at the School of Dentistry of the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) between 2002 and 2021. Despite the high amount of available information, the results of this scientific research have been difficult to make visible, search, access, and recover.

Addressing water resource management challenges in the context of climate change and human influence

<b>Background:</b> Globally, natural water resources are not sufficient most of the times and do not meet the growing demand over the last five decades at least. Climate change is becoming more and more intense. As a result, multiple issues arise. This perspective study aims to identify and document current issues with managing water resources caused by climate change and the human aspect.<br /> <b>Results and purpose:</b> Purpose of this study is to identify and record contemporary challenges regarding the management of water resources arising from both climate change and the human factor. Adverse public health from climate change, the process and management of water at a global level is at high risk and involves a big challenge.<br /> <b>Methodology:</b> Methodology includes the review of various studies in the Greek and international academic community, which were drawn from the international databases Medline, Scopus, and PubMed. The exclusion criterion of the articles was the language other than English and Greek.<br /> <b>Conclusions:</b> The narrative review studies the ways of water resources management, exposes the issues created due to lack of infrastructure, and concludes that a new water resources management framework needs to be updated and implemented. Also, greater investments must be made for the maximum utilization of existing water resources saving a lot of potable water.

중국 바이써(Baise) 분지 주먹도끼의 발견과 성격

This paper collates information on the current status of investigations and related handaxes in the Baise Basin over the last 50 years, focusing on the Fengshudao site, through a metrological analysis of handaxes Type,Shape, size, lithology and other attributes) and other areas (other sites in the Baise Basin, the Luonan Basin, the Imjin/Hantan River Basins , the Geum River Basin, the Yeongsan River Basin, the Acheulian handaxes in the western Old World) for comparative analysis and to understand their nature.
 The Baise handaxe belongs to the pebble industry in southern China. Because its cultural attributes include Acheulean technology, it occupies a pivotal position in the pebble culture of southern China and Asia. From its discovery in the early 1970s to the present, in the past 50 years, relevant investigations and research have achieved scientific research results, which have attracted widespread attention from the international academic community. Therefore, Chinese academic circles have also begun to discuss the ‘Movius line’. At present, there are 41 sites containing handaxes in the Baise Basin, and a total of 499 handaxes have been found. Among them, 11 were excavated from strata, and the rest were collected from the surface.
 The Fengshudao handaxes were basically made from large flakes and pebbles, with three types of stone: sandstone, quartzite and igneous rock. The sandstone is the most abundant and has the most stable ‘broadness’(B/L) and ‘flatness’(Th/B). According to the results of the metrological analysis, the ‘broadness’ (B/L) and ‘flatness’ (Th/B) indices of the Fengshudao handaxes are relatively high, and the ‘Pointness’ (B1/B2) index is relatively low. A comparison with other sites in the Baise Basin, the Luonan Basin, the Imjin/Hantan River Basins , the Geum River Basin, the Yeongsan River Basin, the Acheulian handaxes in the western Old World Acheulean handaxe shows that the Fengshudao handaxe is broader, thicker and has a more pointed base. In terms of industrial assemblages, handaxes and picks are common forms of assemblage in the Baise Basin, while Cleavers are rare, which is a clear difference from the Acheulian industry of the western Old World.

Functional characteristics of university press service

The press services are deeply integrated into the universities’ reputation management and provide the interaction with students, applicants, employers and the international academic community. The effectiveness of the implementation of the communicative potential of university press services is achieved through timely monitoring of public opinion, the establishment and adjustment of feedback from applicants and their parents, as well as the target groups enlisted above. The activities of the press service, its structure and functions are determined by the development of information and communication technologies, including new media, social media, university platforms and various cross-platform messengers. In this context, the experience of organizing and functional features of the university press service in new media and social networks seems worth studying for both theoretical and practical point sides.

“Bringing in” and “Going abroad”: A bibliometric evaluation of the internationalization of archaeology in Mainland China

Chinese scholars’ performance in international academic community and research on foreign archaeology has brought hot discussion about the internationalization of Chinese archaeology. Based on the databases of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and the Web of Science core collection (WoS), this paper collected archaeology-related papers published by Chinese scholars in Chinese and world core journals (CCJs and WCJs for short), then filtered translated and original articles about foreign archaeology in CCJs, as well as all original archaeological articles in WCJs. Using Excel, CiteSpace and VOSviewer visualization software, we analyzed these data to give a bird’s-eye view of how archaeology research in Mainland China has become internationalized. Chinese archaeology has seen active-interrupt-active phases characterized by learning from foreign academics in the last century. Over the past two decades, the number of articles published in WCJs by scholars from Mainland China has increased significantly, and most research topics are at the forefront of international scholarship. Collaboration networks largely expanded, with the number of Mainland China–led articles increasing significantly. Archaeological papers written by researchers from Mainland China have appeared in a more extensive range of journals, including those with high impact factors. However, articles related to joint Sino-foreign archaeological projects were mostly published in CCJs. The archaeology-related articles published by Chinese scholars in WCJs occupied only a small proportion of all archaeological articles in WCJs. Compared to articles in CCJs, the number of those published by Chinese scholars in WCJs is a drop in the ocean. Therefore the internationalization is not yet a dominant trend and with the introduction of the new inward-looking policy we need more time to observe where the trends of internationalization and localization in Chinese archaeology are heading.
