KAJIAN PENERAPAN MATERIAL REUSE PADA RUBILANG HOMESTAY YOGYAKARTA

A house is a building that functions as a place to live and contains facilities and infrastructure for the family. The need for houses is increasing in accordance with human growth. This highlights that the construction of houses will definitely consume a significant amount of natural materials for building construction materials. The use of material reuse can help reduce this. Several case examples were selected to identify and analyze all the challenges and factors that should be considered in designing using recycled materials. Recycling can be defined as reusing an object in a new way, without damaging the material from which it is made. Rubilang Homestay is touted as an example of a house that contributes to environmental sustainability by using reused materials for its construction and interior. The method used in this research was conducted in-depth interviews with homeowners with a direct emphasis on the use of reused materials used in Rubilang Homestay. This research aims to understand the reuse method used by Rubilang Homestay and examine the elements of reuse materials from an interior perspective. The research results are in the form of a narrative presentation of interior images and an analysis focused on reused materials.

‘A Village Stood on End’: Anthropology and the Interior of the Modernist Tower

ABSTRACT The paper considers the influence of American anthropologist Margaret Mead on the design and representation of two residential towers of the Waterloo Estate in Sydney, one of Australia's most well-known housing projects. The paper shows how the NSW Housing Commission, in employing Mead as an advisor, attempted to construct an interior perspective on the community qualities of residential towers. The Commission used Mead’s commentary to reframe the domestic environment of the towers – perceived as alienating and hostile in public debate at the time – by establishing an analogy between the residential towers and the village. Mead’s presence offered support for changing the negative public opinion on the proposed redevelopment of Waterloo, but the completed project also corresponded to some of the qualities she had envisioned as an anthropological reframing of the modernist tower. The idea that each tower could be a “village stood on end” aligned with the Commission’s plan to build additional towers. The paper situates Mead’s influence in the ‘anthropologization’ (Teyssot, 2013) of the modernist architectural discourse in the 1960s and concludes by pointing to the contemporary relevance for more shared interior space, as the residential tower is once again becoming an increasingly common feature in Australian cities.

The New Venture Creation Approach: The Role of Business Incubators in Kenya

New ventures are source of innovation and change, although there are many success cases many new ventures quite before they have fulfilled their potential. Despite the growing number of business incubation amenities, the area of incubators and new venture creation is understudied. The goal of this study was to investigate the role of business incubators on new venture creation in Kenya. This study was underpinned by the Economic theory of Mark Casson, Schumpeter’s theory of Innovation, Dynamic Capability View and Theory of Business Incubators. The study used desktop analysis of existing literature on business incubations and new venture creation. The study found that business incubators are critical in naturing and developing new ventures and they are also effective in new venture creation. Several studies have focused primarily on the exterior perspective, ignoring the interior perspective, in which the entrepreneur plays a significant influence. Moreover, the studies on business incubators and the development of new ventures have been conducted in industrialized nations, yet only a few have been conducted in developing nations. Most of the study on business incubators and new venture creation had employed single research design and thus no single design is perfect. The study recommended combination of descriptive and explanatory research design to be used. Multiple regression model to be used to analyse the direct, mediating and moderating effect of business incubators and new venture creation. The reviewed studies focused on government business incubators and new venture creation. This study recommended a study on business incubators and new venture creation focusing on business incubators in universities in Kenya.

Impact of Eurasian Ice Sheet and North Atlantic Climate Dynamics on Black Sea Temperature Variability During the Penultimate Glacial (MIS 6, 130–184 ka BP)

AbstractUnderstanding hemisphere‐wide millennial‐scale temperature variability during past glacials in response to ice sheet dynamics and orbital forcing is one of the key targets for Quaternary climate research. While an inland propagation of abrupt temperature changes into Eurasia from the North Atlantic realm during the last glacial (Weichselian) receives increasingly broad support, much less is known regarding the penultimate glacial (Saalian) temperature variability, especially from a continental interior perspective. Here, we present a TEX86‐derived lake surface temperature (LST) record from the former Black Sea “Lake” covering nearly the entire Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 6. While orbital‐scale LST cooling likely relates to meltwater discharge from the retreating Eurasian Ice Sheet during insolation maxima, millennial‐scale LST variability suggests interstadial warming in phase with Greenland and northern Mediterranean Sea temperature records during the first half of MIS 6. Although summer insolation reached an interglacial‐like level during this period, we propose that the reduced extent of the Eurasian Ice Sheet associated with northward shifted atmospheric fronts was ultimately responsible for the inland propagation of Dansgaard‐Oeschger‐like temperature variability. During the second half of MIS 6, temperature patterns across the North Atlantic‐Eurasian corridor were more variable and less comparable with each other, likely because of the larger continental ice sheet weakening northern hemisphere atmospheric teleconnections. Temperature records across the North Atlantic‐Eurasian realm suggest a weaker atmospheric teleconnection during MIS 6 compared to MIS 3, likely related to a stronger imprint of the Eurasian Ice Sheet on the continental and regional climate.

Performance-Driven Public Sector Rewards - A Resident Evil?

Achieving administration changes and utilizing current change management methods demand striking a harmony between representative fulfillment and operational execution. In this scenario in an institution such as Sri Lanka Customs, it is discovered that a motivator called ‘rewards’ takes the center stage between operational execution and representative fulfillment. This contextual analysis dissects different components of this unique 150-year-old, 50/50, ‘pay half the catch’ rewards scheme that has not yet been made known to the outside modern world. The research methodology includes a case study of a major institution that contributes 51% of the government revenue in Sri Lanka. It carries out the investigation through a survey and interview. The data showed complex results, demonstrating a dichotomy between the Customs (public) officers and the stakeholders in international trade. Both the interior perspective of the employees and the exterior perspective of the partners are reviewed in this exploratory contextual investigation to formulate a basis for discussion of change management in the public sector. This may be the first time such in-depth analyses have been undertaken from inside the organization. More than 180 customs administrations in the world face a similar situation and dilemma, and it is believed that the findings and analysis in this live illustration may be immensely useful for rethinking or reformulating their change management strategies.

Reconsidering second-person narration and involvement

The literature on second-person narration invariably mentions involvement as a special effect of you-narration on readers. This is arguably achieved because you-narration employs direct address and thus ‘communicates’ with real readers. I argue that one needs to take into consideration the second-person pronoun’s occurrence in, and its interplay with, a given discourse context. Using grammatical and narratological description, and drawing on a contemporary fictional example, this paper proposes that a distinction be made between affective-emotional involvement and aesthetic-reflexive involvement. It is hypothesized that it is the collocation of you with lexical items such as emotive verbs and with narrative techniques creating an interior perspective that creates a sense of experientiality and thus triggers emotional responses. Likewise, readers’ feeling of being addressed is shown to be attributable to the ‘interpersonal semiotic’ in various grammatical constructions, rather than to the usage of the second-person pronoun alone. The address function seems to be tied to the postmodern playfulness of you and readers’ aesthetic-reflexive involvement in this.

On the Use of Perspective by Juan de Herrera, Architect of Philip II of Spain

There are only two perspectives among the extant drawings of Juan de Herrera (1533–1597), who succeeded Juan Bautista de Toledo as architect of the Escorial. Both belong to the collection of engravings of that building made in 1589, after construction had already been completed. One is a bird’s eye view showing the exterior of the building; the other is an interior perspective of the main altar. Although both drawings appear to be rigorous, the external perspective shows a cupola with an unrealistically high tambour, dome and lantern. This paper analyzes both of these, along with a third, a bird’s eye view drawing of the building site by an unknown artist, conserved at Hatfield House (England), contextualizing them within the Escorial’s construction process and Herrera’s knowledge of perspective. The analysis argues that the elongated representation of the cupola was not an error caused by the difficulty of constructing a rigorous perspective or representing curve forms but was instead a deliberate choice made by the architect to make the cupola appear taller and slimmer.

With Limitation Comes Inspiration: The Case for Interior Prefabrication

I have found that it is generally assumedwhen I initially speak about the prefabricated interior, and students are no exception, that it is just another conversation on prefabricated architecture. However, the topic is, in fact, a reconsideration of prefabrication from the interior perspective (Schneiderman 2012). In their exploration of the prefabricated interior, my students have found inspiration from the limitations assumed when discussing prefab. Prefabrication is typically understood as mass produced and fixed, designed without a specific user in mind, and therefore not customized to the individual. Within the prefabricated interior, however, the ability to combine widely available and varied mass-produced and prefabricated elements of the interior have increased the possibility of individualization.

The Interior Experience of Daylighting Technologies: Histories and Potential Futures

ABSTRACTModern glazing systems have historically developed in such a way that opportunities for user adaptation of the building envelope have slowly diminished. Design values such as consistency, automation, a homogenously maintained interior environment, and most recently energy efficiency have been systematically prioritized over other values. Individual control over the visual and thermal quality of the building envelope from the interior perspective is often overlooked. In this article, a historical overview of glazing systems highlights the simultaneous development of counter-technologies invented by occupants to customize the effects of modern glazing systems. It then critiques and revaluates design criteria for sustainable glazing technologies based on the individual's bioclimatic and sensorial experience of the interior environment. Currently existing and emerging technologies start to address heterogeneity and variability. In this article, examples of these contemporary glazing solutions are evaluated according to environmental performance, the degree of user engagement with the technology, and their effects on the interior space. It concludes by advocating a renewed and potentially empowering sense of user control as a prime design criterion for sustainable building envelopes.

The commentator (1) appreciates the author's proposal to describe religious evidence in the framework of a psychology which uses qualitative, esp. hermeneutical methods; he criticizes, however, the author's linear co-lecture of texts of Teresa and of himself, and he would not accept a binary contrast of outer and inner experience resp. a spiritualizing concept of mysticism. (2) The commentator agrees fully with the author's use of the strictly functional term "transcendence-experiences" (not a priori deciding about non-empirical elements) on the level of scientific description; and he suggests to openly use the term "revelation" on the level of interior perspective in the context of a particular language-game resp. socio-cultural group. He doubts, however, whether the author's description is fully in accordance with his own criteria. (3) The author's interpretation of his experience, which might be called a "private revelation" of personally binding nature, can be regarded as consonant with the "revelation" in the Bible resp. New Testament in some important aspects, whereas other elements represent the modern, in a sense heterodox ethical and chiliastic transformation of Christian faith. (4) Dream, trauma, and testimony are indeed biblical analogies to "transcendence-experiences", which deserve a more scrupulous analysis.

Life after Kant: Natural purposes and the autopoietic foundations of biological individuality

This paper proposes a basic revision of the understanding of teleology in biological sciences. Since Kant, it has become customary to view purposiveness in organisms as a bias added by the observer; the recent notion of teleonomy expresses well this “as-if” character of natural purposes. In recent developments in science, however, notions such as self-organization (or complex systems) and the autopoiesis viewpoint, have displaced emergence and circular self-production as central features of life. Contrary to an often superficial reading, Kant gives a multi-faceted account of the living, and anticipates this modern reading of the organism, even introducing the term “self-organization” for the first time. Our re-reading of Kant in this light is strengthened by a group of philosophers of biology, with Hans Jonas as the central figure, who put back on center stage an organism-centered view of the living, an autonomous center of concern capable of providing an interior perspective. Thus, what is present in nuce in Kant, finds a convergent development from this current of philosophy of biology and the scientific ideas around autopoeisis, two independent but parallel developments culminating in the 1970s. Instead of viewing meaning or value as artifacts or illusions, both agree on a new understanding of a form of immanent teleology as truly biological features, inevitably intertwined with the self-establishment of an identity which is the living process.

Loss of 3-D shape constancy in interior spaces: the basis of the Ames-room illusion.

The apparently rectangular form of the irregularly shaped Ames room is explained in terms of a loss of interior 3-D shape constancy consequent on viewing the room with one eye through a small specifically positioned aperture. In the absence of retinal disparity and motion parallax the appearance of the room is held to shift markedly toward the rectangular dimensions of its retinal image. Three experiments designed to test this explanation with a miniature (one-tenth size) version of the Ames room No 1 with the matched 2-D shape of the back wall and as an index of interior 3-D shape are reported. The experiments showed that interior constancy was almost fully restored with binocular viewing of the room (experiment 1). The effect with a 'skeletal' version of the room was about the same as that with the conventional version and was clearly evident when the back wall or its frame version was presented alone (experiment 2), and it varied according to whether the interior perspective corresponded with that of the Ames or a rectangular room (experiment 3). Experiment 3 also showed that a rectangular room is significantly distorted when the interior perspective accords with that of the Ames room. These outcomes are construed as supporting the loss-of-constancy explanation and as showing that the Ames-room effect is one of a class of illusions attributable to the absence of stimulus correlates that normally sustain visual shape constancy.

An applied human ecological approach to regional planning

Land planning in the United States is responding to problematic ecological and economic conditions. A theory of applied human ecology, using general systems theory, ecological anthropology, community studies, and local history, is being developed to meet current planning needs. Methods and techniques were developed in a field study of the Kennett region in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The human ecological analysis permitted planners an interior perspective on the local citizens' views of their landscape. The method aids in the evaluation of who suffers and who benefits locally from any given land use allocation. Siting housing for local needs illustrates this method.

The room space which we are included in, is not recognized by visual elements, but perceived by our whole system. This is the reason why there is no sense other than making an experiment in room space in order to make clear the psychological effects of the texture. Then, we want to analyze in detail why space perception is organized. Space perception depends on visual organs greatly, while other organs also interact space perception synthetically. Therefore, it occurred to us that we make use of the interior perspective drawings which are finished by interior materials to perceive the space perception. We searched for why effects of the texture of interior materials on the feeling of room space result in. We used the interior perspective drawings on behalf of three dimensional space. We researched for the factor structure of the texture of interior materials on the test piece, the perspective drawing and room space. Then, we expected to make clear the relations among them. As the result, the synthetic image in room space was indicated by the Factor of Richness. Where, the space perception of three dimensional space of our whole system acts heavily. Even if We have seen the interior perspective drawing instead of room space, we can not have it correctly. The perspective drawing can make some factor in the test piece put together as the Factor of Superficiality, but two dimensional. The Superficiality Factor is related to the Richness Factor tightly. Therefore, if we found the rule between them, it means that we find the way to analyze the effects of the feeling of room space.
