Some of the motors used for compressors of air-conditioners are cantilevered. The noise of the motor becomes louder when the rotor is off-centered. Therefore, it is important to analyze the motor with an off-centered rotor in order to reduce the noise from such motors, because it is not easy to measure the degree of the off-center in experiments. In this paper, an interior permanent-magnet motor with the off-centered rotor is analyzed using the three-dimensional finite-element method. Consequently, the effects of the off-center of rotor on the electromagnetic distributions and those harmonic components are quantitatively clarified.
