Research on Chinese Legal Regulation of Internet Violence in the Internet Era

The rapid development of network and communication technology has given rise to an open information society with free dissemination of information. The development of the Internet has provided a realistic possibility for the realization of the free dissemination of information, but at the same time, the vigorous development of the Internet and the application of various technical means have also posed challenges to China's traditional social governance. In recent years, various online chaos has emerged in Chinese society, such as the implementation of online human flesh searches, the creation and dissemination of online rumors, and the launch of online verbal abuse. This not only seriously infringes on the personal rights and interests of citizens, disrupts online order, but also has many negative effects on creating a harmonious and orderly social environment. Therefore, it is imperative for China to rely on legal means to govern online violence.

(Non-state) actors in internal bordering and differential inclusion: Syrian refugees’ housing experience in Turkey

ABSTRACT Turkey, as the largest refugee-hosting country, provides insights into the externalization of European borders and the internalization of its own borders. Oscillating between open-door and strict-border policies, alongside the political inactiveness of public authorities and CSOs governing Syrian mobility, Turkey reveals crucial dynamics. Focusing on Syrian refugees’ housing in a refugee hub of Izmir, this study unravels internal bordering and explores its rationales and the involvement of non-state actors. Syrian refugees encounter three internal bordering mechanisms affecting their housing inclusion: selective overpricing, ethnic filtering and arbitrary interrogations. These differential inclusion practices, led by market actors (landlords and realtors), ethnic networks, and street-level bureaucrats (mukhtars and municipal officers), are driven by the prevalence of anti-refugee sentiment in Turkey, where Syrians are perceived as unwanted or undeserving. The internal bordering mechanisms are rooted in ethnic, economic, cultural, and security-based rationales, influenced by the personal interests and socio-economic backgrounds of the involved actors.

Investigating the Impact of Teacher Enthusiasm on Engagement Among Saudi First-Year EFL Students

This study examines the influence of teacher enthusiasm (TE) on student engagement in English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom in Saudi Arabia. Specifically, it explores the relationships between students' perceptions of TE and their levels of engagement, as well as the teaching methods that lead students to perceive their teachers as enthusiastic and the challenges teachers face in maintaining enthusiasm from the student perspectives. A mixed method approach was employed, involving questionnaires distributed to 202 primary year students and semi-structured interviews were conducted with 2 students. The quantitative findings revealed a significant positive correlation between TE and SE. The findings revealed that students perceived certain teaching methods as contributing to teacher enthusiasm, such as varying vocal tones, positive reinforcement, active movement in the classroom, incorporating interactive activities and discussions, and relating content to personal interests. When teachers lacked these enthusiastic methods, students reported a less engaging classroom experience characterized by monotony. Moreover, students reveal key challenges impeding TE which included workload, emotional distress, class timing, and lack of interest from some students. Based on these findings, the study offers practical recommendations for promoting student-centered pedagogy to enhance enthusiasm among EFL teachers and engagement among learners

Cinematic Influence: The Role of Film in Shaping Malaysians' Travel Intentions and Destination Choices

Film tourism has emerged as a significant factor in enhancing tourist numbers by drawing visitors to locations depicted in movies and dramas. This study explores films' influence on Malaysians' perceptions and intentions to travel to these destinations. Utilizing the push and pull theory, the research examines how movies affect Malaysians' travel motivations and destination choices. Data were gathered through an online survey involving 267 Malaysian moviegoers, selected via convenience sampling. The findings indicate that several factors, including the reflection of personal values and interests in movies, significantly influence the intention to travel. Respondents expressed a stronger connection and likelihood to visit destinations featured in films that resonate with their interests. The study suggests that future research could employ different methodologies further to explore the impact of movies on tourist perceptions globally. Additionally, the findings underscore the potential for filmmakers, destination marketing organizations (DMOs), and local authorities to leverage films as powerful marketing tools to enhance tourist demand for real-life film locations.

Personalized Neuroimaging Reveals the Impact of Children's Interests on Language Processing in the Brain.

Cognition is shaped by individual experiences and interests. However, to study cognition in the brain, researchers typically use generic stimuli that are the same across all individuals. Language, in particular, is animated and motivated by several highly personal factors that are typically not accounted for in neuroimaging study designs, such as "interest" in a topic. Due to its inherently personal and idiosyncratic nature, it is unknown how interest in a topic modulates language processing in the brain. We conducted functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in 20 children (ages 6.98-12.01 years, mean(SD)=9.35(1.52), 5 female/15 male) as they listened to personalized narratives about a topic of specific interest, as well as to non-personalized generic narratives. We found that personalized narratives about a topic of interest increased activation in canonical language areas, as well as in reward and self-reference regions. Strikingly, we found that activation patterns elicited by topics of personal interest were more consistent across children, despite their idiosyncratic nature, than activation patterns elicited by narratives about an identical generic topic. These results reinforce the critical role that personal interests play in language processing in the human brain, and demonstrate the feasibility of using a personalized neuroimaging approach to study the effects of individually-varying factors such as interest in the brain.

Exploring apprentice selection by skilled trade artisans in the Ghanaian construction industry

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the factors influencing trade artisans’ choice of skills selection as apprentice’s trainee in the Ghanaian construction sector and to identify and address the challenges associated with traditional apprenticeship. Trade artisans with technical know-how in construction and general workplace skills from the traditional apprenticeship training (TAT) in the area of construction were selected from selected sites and training centers. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopted the purposive sampling technique with the aim of gathering knowledge from individuals with expertise in the research area, particularly trade craftsmen who have been trained through the TAT system and are directly involved in construction-related works. Partial least square structure equation modelling (PLS-SEM) analytical approach and principal component analysis were used to reduce the dimensionality of the data set and preserve as much information as possible. Findings Three major components, namely, personal and social interest, job assessment and stability and family and faith were identified as the variables that influence an artisan's choice of a skill trade. These influenced the choice of apprenticeship training by young trainees in choosing apprenticeship as a mode of training. Personal interest, living situation of artisans and parents’ educational attainment are the most influencing factors that determine artisans’ choice of selected trades. Moreover, the study also shed light on the challenges inherent in traditional apprenticeship systems, such as the lack of formal technical education, limited access to modern technology and information and poor working conditions. Practical implications The study underscores the imperative for stakeholders to enhance apprenticeship programmes within the construction sector. This involves providing more stable job opportunities, improving working conditions and offering access to modern technology and information. Such enhancements not only attract more young individuals to apprenticeship training but also ensure the sustainability and relevance of the workforce in meeting industry demands. Originality/value The study finally developed a model that could be used as a foundation for future PLS-SEM evaluation and identified the factors that influence the selection of apprenticeship training by trade artisans.

The influence of toxic leadership on emotional exhaust and reactive work behavior

Companies are impacted by toxic leadership phenomena, resulting in many dissatisfied employees, low morale, and reduced progress. The fundamental mismatch between good leadership and harmful actions of toxic leaders is the primary cause of the problem. Toxic leadership can also be developed from narcissistic behavior of considering personal interests or using humiliation to maintain power. In this context, employees are negatively affected, resulting in higher stress levels, poorer job satisfaction, and a significant decrease in trust. Therefore, this research aims to explore the impact of toxic leadership and other factors on companies. The sample consists of 187 senior employees in the accounting department who worked in manufacturing companies. The results showed that toxic leadership influences role stress, while role stress affects emotional exhaustion and reactive work behavior. Moreover, future research should be conducted using other samples such as hospital employees or pay attention to other aspects related to role stress.

The Human Conception of Neuroeconomics: Homo-Neurobiologicus

One of the fundamental assumptions of neoclassical economics is the concept of the homo-æconomicus. This model assumes that individuals are rational, pursue personal interests, and aim to maximize their utility or profits based on choices determined by external factors. Neuroeconomics, however, challenges this idealized human model and focuses on understanding how people actually behave in the real world. By examining human decision-making processes and behaviors through laboratory studies and field analysis, neuroeconomics seeks to understand the neurobiological processes behind economic decisions. This approach suggests that people make decisions not only based on external factors or rationality but also influenced by emotions, thoughts, and their neurobiological structures. In this context, neuroeconomics points to a completely different nature of humans, contrary to the homo-æconomicus model: This human model, whose behavior is influenced by its social and economic nature and its neurobiology, is termed as homo-neurobiologicus. In this a person's economic decisions are largely determined by their neurobiological structure. The purpose of this study is to examine the homo-neurobiologicus which is the human understanding of neuroeconomics, and to highlight the differences and similarities between it and homo-æconomicus.

Research on the Types and Influencing Factors of English Learning Motivation among English Major Undergraduates: A Case Study of Third-Year Students at a University in East China

English learning motivation significantly impacts learning efficiency. This study empirically investigates the learning motivations of 41 third-year English major students through a questionnaire survey conducted at a university in East China. The findings reveal that the learning motivations of English major undergraduates can be categorized into four types: personal interests, future development, experiential background, and social responsibility. Core factors influencing the types of learning motivation include students' personal cultural interests and their academic and career planning. Additionally, learning motivation is influenced by learning experiences, family environments, and social contexts. This research suggests that university English teachers should adopt a student-centered approach to tailor their teaching methods, thereby assisting students in establishing long-term, profound learning motivations. Furthermore, it encourages universities to implement social practice activities aimed at promoting intercultural communication.

Exploring the Utility of ChatGPT for Self-directed Online Language Learning

As generative AI tools are increasingly popular in today’s teaching and learning process, challenges and opportunities occur at the same time. Self-directed learning has been regarded as a powerful learning ability that supports learners in informal learning contexts and its importance rises in salience when incorporating AI into learning. This study employed a mixed-method design to understand how people self-direct their online language learning through the utilization of ChatGPT. Analyzing survey data from 276 survey respondents and 11 one-to-one interviews with language learners in the United States, we found that learners are motivated to use generative AI for its high flexibility and personalization which enables learners to access learning materials that align with their knowledge levels, personal interests, and learning goals. We also found self-monitoring skills that are inherent to learners help them to use ChatGPT more efficiently and achieve their learning goals efficiently. This study contributes to the emerging field of AI in education and explores possibilities to use ChatGPT to foster self-directed language learning and provide educators, instructional designers, and researchers with insights to design learning integrated with AI to best fulfill learners’ diverse needs and expand learning opportunities to more people.

UPGRADE OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS BASED ON MICROQUALIFICATION

The integration of Kazakhstan into the world political and economic space makes it necessary to promptly respond to the ongoing fundamental changes. At the same time, it is natural to modernize the process of training pedagogical specialists. Exploring patient and staff member views on a 'consent for contact' system for sexual health research: A mixed methods study.

Recruitment in sexual health research is challenging. This study explores the potential of a Consent for Contact system (C4C) - generic consent for research contact - to improve participant recruitment and engagement in sexual health research. Our objectives were to understand patient and staff understanding of research, their views on a separate C4C system, and their preferences for its acceptability in a sexual health clinic setting. A two-stage study was conducted at a large urban UK sexual health clinic from November 2021 to July 2022. Stage one involved a self-completed questionnaire administered to all patients and staff. In Stage 2, semi-structured interviews (SSIs) further explored patient concerns and preferences. Survey data were analysed using chi-square and Fisher's exact test and thematic analysis was applied to free-text responses and SSIs. A total of 205/300 patient (68%) and 41/280 staff questionnaires (15%) were completed. Motivations for research participation included altruism and personal interest. Statistically significant differences were found between patients' and staff members' concerns on confidentiality and anticipated feeling of pressure to participate. The majority of staff (n = 38, 93%) and half of patients (n = 100, 49%) supported implementation of a sexual health C4C system. Participants recognised the potential benefits of a sexual health C4C system, including enhanced privacy and increased research opportunities. Concerns were raised about stigma, terminology, and signing-up methods. This study found the C4C system has the potential to enhance participant recruitment and engagement in sexual health research, but implementation support is narrowly divided with concerns around privacy and sign-up processes. These insights call for a patient-centred design approach, emphasising clear communication and privacy. Future research should focus on implementing and evaluating a sexual health C4C system to further explore their effectiveness and acceptability in different contexts.

Sociopolitical Oppression and Suppression in Soyinka’s A Play of Giant

The concept of oppression is one of the most vital concepts in contemporary political discourses in the literary works. This concept has some interdisciplinary characteristics which are associated with culture, religion, sociology and politics. Therefore, this paper critically explores various sociopolitical oppression and suppression of Africans by their leaders (fellow Africans) in most parts of the continent as portrayed by Wole Soyinka. The paper reveals how African leaders misuse power, serve their personal interest instead of the citizens who voted them to power. In the Play of Giant, Soyinka uses satire to depict the attitude of many African leaders towards their citizens. It shows that the leaders have less sympathy towards the masses. It also shows inferiority complex, dictatorship, abuse of power, intolerance, immorality, and insensitiveness of African leaders which are all against the African cultures but inherited from colonialism.

Career Intentions: An Analysis of Final-Year Hospitality Students’ Intentions in the Hotel Industry

The hotel industry, being one of the largest industries globally, offers many job opportunities and promising career prospects for students. Career intention reflects students’ readiness, preferences, and advancement within the industry based on their education, experiences, and perceptions. Final-year hospitality students have diverse career prospects in the hotel industry. However, many higher-educated students are losing interest in pursuing hotel-industry careers due to various factors. Hence, this study aims to assess the career intentions of final-year hospitality students in the hotel industry, considering factors, such as parental influence, promotion opportunities, nature of work, and personal interest. Using a quantitative research approach, data have been gathered from 70 final-semester hospitality students via questionnaires. The results show that parental influence and personal intention significantly impact the students’ career intentions in the hotel industry. It is recommended that future research should explore the impact of specific departments on career intentions, include both degree and diploma students, and promote collaborations between academia and the hotel industry to align curriculums with industry needs.

The Manuscript Source of Philippe II d'Orléans's Cantates françaises: A New Light on Early Eighteenth-Century Transnational Networks of Connoisseurship and Collecting

AbstractThe rediscovery of a unicum manuscript source of cantates françaises by Philippe II d'Orléans in the Württembergische Landesbibliothek, Stuttgart, provokes a re-evaluation of not only the provenance of the collection to which it belongs, but also the role played by diplomacy, sociability and cultural exchange in the history of the cantate française. The manuscript's contents all reflect Philippe's use of international connections to acquire music and engage musicians in the period 1701–1706. The manuscript forms part of a corpus of French scores that belonged to Marie-Thérèse de Lannoy de La Motterie, an aristocratic amateur harpsichordist with an interest in both French and Italian music, and in cantates. As wife of Joseph Lothar von Königsegg und Rothenfels, representative of the Austrian emperor to Philippe, then regent of France, she was engaged in the cultural life of Paris during the period 1717–1719, not only acquiring cantate prints but also a copy of Philippe's own works in the genre. Her collection reflects both her personal interests and her diplomatic cultivation of the social circles around Philippe in which music connoisseurship was an important skill. The manuscript thus highlights the important role played in the international transmission of cantates françaises by diplomatic and familial connections of noble amateurs, especially those curious about musical developments beyond their own regional practices.

Features of preventing abuse of authority or official position committed by public servants

Corruption in Ukraine is recognized as a threat to national interests, sustainable development and European integration. Despite the significant efforts made by the state and international institutions to overcome corruption in the main spheres of public life, its level still remains high. When defining the essence of corruption, one should first of all proceed from the fact that it cannot be reduced to any specific socially dangerous act, to a specific offense. Corruption is the result of the historical development of society and the state, including Ukrainian society and the Ukrainian state. At the same time, in the last decade, corruption in Ukraine gained an unprecedented scope and influence on political, economic and other social processes. It іs found that the problems of countering corruption in Ukraine in many respects coincide with similar problems in other countries. This coincidence is caused by the same social essence of corruption as the corrosion of power, which consists in the abuse by officials of state authorities and local self-government bodies of power or official position for selfish or other personal interests. Regardless of the differences in the state system, the main socio-economic prerequisites of corruption are the same in principle for all countries − the imperfection of the mechanism of the exercise of power, the desire of subjects endowed with power to use this power for personal purposes, and the main directions of combating corruption − restrictions, neutralization and elimination of its social prerequisites, causes and conditions of corrupt acts, determination of restrictions and prohibitions for civil servants, establishment of responsibility for their violation. The reduction of corruption to a certain type of offense by a certain part of scientists and practitioners is one of the most significant mistakes in the understanding of corruption. Corruption is a social phenomenon that has social conditions, social patterns of development and exerts a negative influence on social processes. Existing in society and being a product of social relations, it permeates various social spheres of society, deforming social relations in different ways.

AI art education - artificial or intelligent? Transformative pedagogic reflections from three art educators in Singapore

ABSTRACT With growing interest in the role and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI pedagogies in transformative art education this paper voices the pedagogic reflections of three art educators in Singapore who have engaged AI in their art provision. It discusses and exemplifies the advantages (intelligent), like interdisciplinary opportunity, enhanced student engagement and increased connectionism, and limitations (artificial), like ethical and moral dilemmas and positioning, of AI integration in three art education settings showcasing how educators and learners engage. Model of pedagogic reflection is used to reveal how the educators provided transformative learning with AI, whilst showing the influence of personal art interests, technique modelling and professional reflections on teaching and making involving AI. Paper contributions include insights into and examples of AI practices and pedagogies (like AI literacy and prompt engineering), that are and could be used in art education, reflections on their successes and limits and commentary on the position of AI integration in the circular economy of art education. The paper is positioned to mobilize educator and student voice as an influential driver in the transformation of art education given ongoing developments in digital education futures.

형사실체법에서 법익개념과 피해자의 지위 - 해악의 원칙: 형사입법의 제한에 피해자는 기여하는가?

The principle that there is no crime without legal interest to protect serves to set the limits of criminal legislation. In such a theory centered on the legal interest, it is not known what function the victim performs in the criminal law. However, in the criminal law regulations protecting individuals, the victim's traces appear in that the person attributing legal interests is the victim, and it is not an active marker of the criminal law. Here is looked at whether the areas that are difficult to solve with the theory of legal interest can be supplemented with the principles of common law system. The “Harm to Others Principle,” which the state sees as the most legitimate purpose of restricting individual freedom to prevent acts of harm to others, presupposes the existence of the victim. Next, Offense theory is a theory that the state's penal intervention becomes possible when the infringement of an individual's special feelings is accepted as a serious infringement beyond the subjective tendency, unlike the moral or ethical violation as a common behavior of a community. While debating whether personal legal interests and ecological or functional- human-centered legal interests should interpret legal interests centered on human interests or expand them beyond that, it was confirmed that the principle of harm and its derivative principle could be solved simply but more clearly. If the principle of harm is accepted, the victim can be determined in any way and the criminal substance law can be restricted centered on the victim, because it can have the effect of limiting the area of crime through crimes of harming interests by determining the category of harm. On the other hand, it was also examined that while the existence of the victim may perform a systematic critical function of restricting criminal legislation on the one hand, there is a concern that excessive crime may be expanded by interpreting and expanding the existing criminal constituent requirements in interpretation centered on the victim. Of course, even if the principle of harm is accepted, judgment based on an individual's subjective emotion of pleasure or displeasure still cannot be a complete solution in that there is a concern of arbitrary interpretation. This paper would be liked to terminate without concluding what is reasonable. Instead, would like to replace the conclusion with the effect that it is necessary to rethink the basis of “what” criminal law should be legislated clearly.

This research uses the literature study method to examine the concept of justice in the perspective of Islamic economics. This method involves collecting and analyzing data from various relevant literature sources such as books, journal articles, and other publications that discuss justice and Islamic economics. The concept of justice in Islamic economics creates balance and equality in various economic transactions. The concept of justice in the perspective of Islamic economics is a crucial element that must be upheld to build trust and harmony in every economic activity, as well as to ensure that every individual can contribute to collective welfare without pursuing personal interests alone

This study examines the commercialization of research conducted by government-funded science and technology research institutes (hereinafter referred to as 'science and technology research institutes') and the associated legal frameworks for preventing conflicts of interest. The aim is to analyze the perceptions within the research community and propose legal improvements. Science and technology research institutes are tasked with not only conducting scientific research but also promoting technology transfer and commercialization for the dissemination and utilization of research outcomes. However, this process may involve personal interests or commercial activities, which can lead to conflicts of interest. Notably, since the implementation of the Act on the Prevention of Conflict of Interest in 2022, issues related to technology transfer and commercialization have been raised, necessitating a thorough review. The perception survey conducted within the research community revealed differences in views on research commercialization between science and technology research institutes and other organizations, with the potential for conflict of interest concerns posing a more significant barrier in the former. Additionally, research-oriented companies and researcher-founded startups reported experiencing limitations in collaboration due to conflict of interest concerns. The proposed legal improvements include: first, the establishment of explicit provisions related to researcher entrepreneurship within the Act on the Establishment, Operation and Fostering of Government-Funded Science and Technology Research Institutes to provide a clear legal basis for proactive efforts; second, a reconsideration of the application of the Act on the Prevention of Conflict of Interest to science and technology research institutes, with the consideration of exceptions or exclusions reflecting the unique nature of research and development; and third, the suggestion to utilize existing laws, such as the National Research and Development Innovation Act, to establish autonomous conflict of interest management systems within these institutes. These measures aim to strike a balance between the public responsibilities of research institutions and the social utilization of research outcomes, ensuring that researchers can actively commercialize their research while fulfilling their ethical responsibilities.
