VR-Based Learning Media of Earthquake-Resistant Construction for Civil Engineering Students

The shaking of the surface of the Earth is what is known as an earthquake; its effects can span a wide area and cause such damage as to result in the total collapse of buildings. It is essential to improve the construction industry to protect buildings from disaster. However, construction development is costly. Therefore, this article focuses mainly on creating an earthquake-resistant construction model using Virtual Reality (VR), which offers its users new ways to improve knowledge transfer and communication. There were three stages in generating this model: pre-development, development, and post-development. These stages include a needs assessment, planning, initial development, validation, analysis and evaluation, and field testing. In the post-development stage, the model was then tested by civil engineering students, and a statistical analysis was used to evaluate the implementation of VR. The VR was developed to assist civil engineering students while fostering their interest in information technology. The results indicated that the VR-based application had a favorable and significant effect on learning. In addition, the mean score of 17.3 showed an improvement in average score for the VR-based application compared to traditional education. Integration of VR into civil engineering education can statistically improve learning outcomes, particularly regarding the construction of earthquake-resistant buildings.

For many years computers have an increasing influence on changes in the functioning of societies. Informatics as a field of knowledge integrates with almost all other fields and becomes their inseparable element. Developing the IT competences of children and youth is one of the priority directions of the educational policy in Poland. Early contact with informatics at school should introduce children to the possibilities of using this field and arouse interest in information technology, so that schoolers entering professional and adult life are prepared to take on the responsibilities and challenges of the 21st century. Core curriculum for classes I-III of the primary school contains detailed requirements in the field of IT education. The article presents the content of IT education, the effects that a student should achieve at the end of early childhood education and the methods of conducting IT classes.

The purpose of our exploration is to investigate the computer technology impact on the development of art component in the modern design and engineering education. This is a case in the first instance of traditional arts such as Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. The thematic justification there is to analyse transformation trends of art image creation in a changing development context in the design area. The evolving methodological modern concept requires preservation and development the evolution way of things from its realistic perception (image) to its usage in the capacity of artistic tools and modern information technology tools. It would be instructive to examine the painting methodology of such authors as Nikolai Beschastnov, Vadim Kulakov, Irina Stor, Yuriy Avdeev, Gusein Guseinov, Victor Dyminskiy, Aleksey Sheboldaev (Painting), Yuriy Kirtser (Drawing and painting) as well as the legacy of classic and modern painters. In process of training painting and decorative transformations, information technology adaptation and appliance aim to educate high-level designers and architects. Careful study of nature combine with information technology art tools – this is a key stone of student training of Fine Arts departure of Institute of Architecture and Design Altay State Technical University. Perfect art skills together with technical achievements provides an opportunity to expand and enrich creative potential in carrying out tasks of any kind of complexity importing an art component in the modern design culture. Interest in information technology in a class-room environment Drawing-Painting-Sculpture is no doubt. It’s fascinatingly for students. New methodologies of Institute of Architecture and Design test and endorse in several subjects: Painting and Coloristics, Drawing, Colour transformations in design culture. Based on methodological experiments developed in Fine Arts departure of Institute of Architecture and Design Altay State Technical University and other Russian universities authors suppose that the modern information technology impact on new art architect training methodologies, student abilities for abstract creative reasoning, preserving art component legacy in architect education.

Experiential Learning of Information Systems in Functional Contexts: The Digital Brand Strategy Project

Successful technology-based ventures and the notion that every company constitutes a “digital” company have driven increased interest in information technology even for students majoring in areas other than information systems. With the growing need for experiential learning, educators in business schools face challenges in identifying effective delivery mechanisms to impart theoretical foundations and practical applications in functional contexts that students find relevant. In this paper, we describe how we designed and implemented a project that fulfilled the above needs and integrated information systems and marketing. We describe the motivation for this project, its learning objectives, and its innovative design and implementation, and we provide an example of the project to illustrate its execution. While this project could be a standalone piece in an information systems course, we show it to be an effective way to communicate how one can apply information systems in a different functional context.

Validation of the Information-Technology-Enabled Interaction Instrument in Contemporary Chinese Context

Practitioners and researchers have shown great interest in information-technology (IT)-enabled interactions across partnering firms and developed instruments for measuring it. However, those instruments might have been under criticism as they were developed before the widespread adoption of the new IT applications like video conferences, DingTalk and WeChat Moments among Chinese managers for the last five years. The purpose of this study is to validate the instrument of IT-enabled formal and informal interactions for the contemporary Chinese context. First, the study reviews the literature on IT-enabled interfirm interactions and designs an open questionnaire through in-depth interviews. Answers from 85 pairs of suppliers and manufacturers are coded and the preliminary item pool is generated through the qualitative analysis. Next, a small-scale pretest with 120 manufacturing firms is conducted to purify and modify the item pool. Finally, a large-scale analysis with 336 manufacturing firms is conducted to check the reliability and validity of the measurements. The finalized scale yields six items measuring IT-enabled formal interaction and five items measuring IT-enabled informal interaction, among which six are newly derived in this study. The validated instrument reveals satisfactory reliability and validity and can serve as the basic instruments for future research on IT-enabled interactions.

Impurity-dependent gyrotropic motion, deflection and pinning of current-driven ultrasmall skyrmions in PdFe/Ir(111) surface

Resting on multi-scale modelling simulations, we explore dynamical aspects characterizing magnetic skyrmions driven by spin-transfer-torque towards repulsive and pinning 3d and 4d single atomic defects embedded in a Pd layer deposited on the Fe/Ir(111) surface. The latter is known to host sub-10 nm skyrmions which are of great interest in information technology. The Landau–Lifshitz–Gilbert equation is parametrized with magnetic exchange interactions extracted from the ab-initio all-electron full potential Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker Green function method, where spin–orbit coupling is added self-consistently. Depending on the nature of the defect and the magnitude of the applied magnetic field, the skyrmion deforms by either shrinking or increasing in size, experiencing thereby elliptical distortions. After applying a magnetic field of 10 T, ultrasmall skyrmions are driven along a straight line towards the various defects which permits a simple analysis of the impact of the impurities. Independently from the nature of the skyrmion-defect complex interaction, being repulsive or pinning, a gyrotropic motion is observed. A repulsive force leads to a skyrmion trajectory similar to the one induced by an attractive one. We unveil that the circular motion is clockwise around pinning impurities but counter clockwise around the repulsive ones, which can be used to identify the interaction nature of the defects by observing the skyrmions trajectories. Moreover, and as expected, the skyrmion always escapes the repulsive defects in contrast to the pinning defects, which require a minimal depinning current to observe impurity avoidance. This unveils the richness of the motion regimes of skyrmions. We discuss the results of the simulations in terms of the Thiele equation, which provides a reasonable qualitative description of the observed phenomena. Finally, we show an example of a double track made of pinning impurities, where the engineering of their mutual distance allows to control the skyrmion motion with enhanced velocity.

ACCEPTANCE OF STUDENTS TOWARDS E-LEARNING IN MALAY LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING

The development of the information and internet era has transformed traditional learning trends into the form of online versions and has indirectly contributed to the flexible teaching and learning environment. As a result, it seeks to accelerate the teaching and make the learning process more effective. The sample consists of 30 students who take diploma courses from various programs of study. The sample selection was based on a random sampling group which seeks to meet the needs of the researcher. For the purpose of this study, a questionnaire was used to collect research information. This survey design was used because of its suitability for reviewing the implementation of e-learning in Malay language teaching and learning. This type of instrument is saving the researchers’ and students’ cost and time. The findings were identified through the acceptance of students towards e-learning in teaching and learning which gave a relatively high overall value of 27. The results of this study showed that students' interest in information technology and the internet as an important intermediate medium today is at a high level. Therefore, this study is expected to be beneficial to the Ministry of Education, lectures, and teachers because they could apply this study as guidance and guidelines in the teaching of Malay language.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE APPLICATION OF SMART PORTS REQUIREMENTS AND SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN AN ECONOMETRIC STUDY ON PORT SAID PORTS

In a globalized economy, the present era has become the era of the smart economy where efficiency, adaptability, innovation and customer satisfaction are important factors besides revenue growth. These maritime developments have been accompanied by IT developments in managing their operations through smart applications and port switching from a traditional port The Smart Port competes with others to provide technology services to the port community while achieving sustainability in the supply chain and the impact of this on the competitiveness and productivity and facilitate trade. Environmental responsibility is one of the most important considerations that the ports are concerned to become more sustainable in the operational processes in order to ensure the increase of customers and well-being middlemen and stakeholders within the port and therefore seek smart ports to find innovative ways to reduce costs and eliminate waste, which increases the added value of operations. To rely on descriptive analytical approach, this is based on the systematic, description of the facts and characteristics related to the specific problem and the analysis of the content in a practical and accurate way to study the relations in the hypotheses of research. By describing and analyzing the ports of Port Said and Port of Rotterdam and seeking to determine the requirements of the application of smart ports to sustain the supply chains. This has resulted in strong relations between wages and total trading volume in Port Said and Rotterdam ports by 0.00001007 and 0.0000009209 respectively, the global port classification according to the Rotterdam port turnover rate of 120.485 and the statistical relationship between the average size of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the time berth by 0.000006309. This confirms that to achieve the sustainability of the supply chain, smart port requirement to must be applied the main recommendations of the study focus on first the interest in information technology and communication in the administrative processes and improving the environmental performance of the ports to achieve the integrated concept of the smart port and achieve sustainability, second Facilitate procedures in ports and their full mechanization, reduce the number of days needed for import and export operations, expand the use of the Internet in all stages of the movement of goods to the end customer and provide tracking techniques and tracing shipments.

Integration of ARCS Motivational Model and IT to Enhance Students Learning in the Context of Atayal Culture

This study involved using teaching strategies from the ARCS Motivational Model to develop new interdisciplinary curricular modules and ability assessments that combine Atayal culture with information technology. The purpose was to explore whether, through pedagogy based on the ARCS motivational model, indigenous middle-school students had a significant improvement in teamwork, creative thinking, and communication abilities, and whether or not students’ interest in information technology and culture was inspired. Research subjects were 17 first-year students in an Atayal Comprehensive Junior-Senior High School in Nan’ao, Yilan County. The research period was 2016-2017, and data was collected from teaching demonstrations, thoughts written down by students, and tests. Research tools include the qualitative written thoughts of the students and a quantitative assessment of the key abilities of teamwork, creative thinking, and communication abilities. There were a total of 33 items. To explore whether there was a significant change in indigenous students’ teamwork, creative thinking, and communication abilities, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for statistical analysis of pre-test and post-test results. Research results show that indigenous students performed significantly better in the post-test than in the pre-test with respect to teamwork, creative thinking, and communication. The thoughts students wrote down after class clearly expressed interest in the cross-disciplinary course combining culture and information technology. Therefore, the course using an ARCS motivational model to combine Atayal culture and information technology significantly improved indigenous students’ teamwork, creative thinking, and communication abilities.

Choice of information system for Russian companies

The relevance of work is caused by the importance of an integrated approach to automating the business processes of organizations. Understanding the relevance of the problem came to Russia with some delay, in comparison with the West. Recently the interest in information technologies, which are inseparably linked with a concept of an information system of the corporate level and capable to provide effective management of the entity, has grown. Also the modern models of information technologies allow one to put into practice methods of the game theory by means of which it is possible to count and predict important results and on its basis to make the right management decision. The purpose of this work was to choose an optimal information system and to research efficiency of its application for the pharmaceutical company Pharmstandard. Mathematical and marketing methods were used during the research. The choice of a certain corporate information system and calculation of efficiency of its usage and a payback period are the result of the work. Results of the conducted research can be used by the specialists of various industrial enterprises for development of the competitive activities in the sphere of strategic planning.

Types of Derivation in Polish IT LanguageGrowing global interest in information technology entails the need to be familiarised with its lan­guage. The author indicates a gap in linguistic research, namely the absence of regular analysis of both English and Polish IT languages. Moreover, the IT language should be differentiated from computer or programming languages. The paper presents the results of derivative analysis of texts written by IT specialists in order to illustrate the main tendencies of a new term creation in the target language, such as the Polish IT language. The author describes the derivative mechanism of Polish IT language compared to the primary language in the considered field of knowledge – English IT language. The paper also discusses the issue of originality of Polish IT language in its derivation­al dimension. The selected terms are analysed and classified according to affixes forming them. Such formation of new terms is presented through morpheme typology, composition as well as a word-formative nest. The description emphasises the variety of types and meanings that are present in derivational processes.

Interventions for increasing male and female undergraduate interest in information technology

There is a continuing worldwide need for developing a larger and more diverse workforce in the broad field of information technology (IT). We report on two activities conducted by the project within selected classes of a postsecondary finite mathematics course: 1) a student-written blog about practical applications of computing, and 2) after-class seminar sessions with professionals about the importance of computing in the work world. It was found that the hundreds of students who actively participated in these activities were significantly more likely to enroll in a computing course or declare a computing-related major than were non-participating students, despite the fact that the two groups of students displayed identical attitudes toward computing at the start of the term. The study demonstrates that relevant blogs and sessions with professionals can be effective tools for recruiting students, including women, who otherwise would not have chosen to complete more course work in computing.

Effective factors of successful cloud marketing adoption by SMEs: the case of Iran

In recent years, cloud computing has received much interest in information technology. Due to the potential market for cloud computing and small and medium enterprises' (SMEs') significant future investments in this new technology, studies are needed on cloud computing applications to the marketing field, which we name cloud marketing. Thus, the primary purpose of this study is to explore the factors that increase or decrease the probability of adopting cloud marketing by SMEs. Based on the literature, we propose a three-dimensional model that illustrates the critical factors affecting SME decisions regarding the adoption of cloud marketing that include the classification within the cloud marketing era dimension, the SME dimension, and the environmental dimension. We found that the cloud marketing era dimension was the most impactful dimension - with benefits as the most important factor, and pay-as-you-go basis as the most salient feature. Our proposed model and comprehensive discussion section contribute to the literature on cloud marketing adoption, and help SMEs better prepare themselves for the journey ahead.

X-ray spectro-microscopy of complex materials and surfaces

The detailed understanding of complex materials used in information technology requires the use of state-of-the-art experimental techniques that provide information on the electronic and magnetic properties of the materials. The increasing miniaturization of components furthermore demands the use of techniques with spatial resolution down to the nanometer range. A means to satisfy both requirements is to combine the capabilities of conventional X-ray absorption spectroscopy with those of electron microscopy in a new technique designated as X-ray photoemission electron microscopy. This paper reviews the principles of this new spectro-microscopy approach and presents selected applications to the study of materials of interest in information technology.
