Reconstruction options for infection-related defects : Plastic surgery armamentarium

The occurrence of infections has always been feared in all surgical disciplines. Plastic reconstructive surgery faces the challenge of treating infection-related defects on apatient-specific basis, which requires amultidisciplinary treatment concept. Satisfactory treatment success can only be achieved through radical debridement for infection cleansing, optimization of the perfusion situation paired with targeted anti-infective treatment and, if necessary, with soft tissue reconstruction by plastic surgery. This article presents the current possibilities of plastic and reconstructive surgery with respect to the reconstruction of infection-related defects. Proven and reliable strategies are presented and supplemented by promising experimental approaches. Due to the often multilayered defect situation caused by infections, from the epidermis to cancellous bone, the entire armamentarium of plastic and reconstructive surgery is used for reconstruction. The early involvement of plastic surgery in the treatment of infections and the interdisciplinary and multimodal treatment approach have proven their worth in the treatment of complex infection situations.

Extended Long-Term Outcome After Conservative Decompressive Microsurgery and Routine Adjuvant Fractionated Stereotactic Radiotherapy for Symptomatic Cavernous Sinus Meningiomas.

Cavernous sinus meningiomas (CSM) pose one of the most difficult to treat subgroup of skull base meningiomas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an interdisciplinary treatment approach for symptomatic CSM which incorporated conservative function preserving microsurgery and routine adjuvant fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (FSRT). A homogenous group of patients with symptomatic primary CSM with extracavernous extension was treated between 2005 and 2012. All patients were available for a minimum follow-up of 5 years. Clinical follow-up included detailed examination of oculomotor deficits, visual status, and endocrinologic function. Radiologic follow-up was conducted by tumor volumetry. Overall, 23 patients were included in this study (78.3% women; median age 58 years). Diplopia was the most common presenting symptom, followed by headache and visual disturbances. Surgical morbidity was low (3/23; 13%). FSRT was applied after a median of 2 months after surgery. At a median clinical follow-up of 113 months, 70.45% of the presenting symptoms had improved, 25% remained unchanged, and in 2 cases (4.54%), worsening occurred. Overall tumor regression was evident in 19/21 World Health Organization 1 and in 1/2 of World Health Organization 2 CSM, respectively, at a median radiological follow-up of 103 months. Our findings demonstrate the efficacy of an interdisciplinary treatment approach for symptomatic primary CSM with extracavernous extension with decompression of neurovascular elements followed by FSRT. Precise preoperative planning and intraoperative decision making in combination with routine postoperative radiotherapy can achieve excellent tumor control, improve neurologic function, and minimize long-term morbidity.

Interdisciplinary rendez-vous approach in endovascular stroke treatment a new concept to accelerate mechanical thrombectomy in primary stroke centers

Abstract Background/Introduction Prompt endovascular treatment of patients with stroke due to intracranial Large Vessel Occlusion (LVO) is a major challenge especially in rural areas because neurointerventionalists are usually not available. As a result, treatment is delayed, and clinical outcomes are worse compared with patients primarily treated in comprehensive stroke centers (CSC). Purpose To address this problem, we present a new concept in which interdisciplinary, on-site endovascular treatment is performed in a Primary Stroke Center (PSC) by a team of interventional cardiologists and neuroradiologists: the Rendez-Vous approach. Methods Twenty-seven patients with LVO who underwent interdisciplinary thrombectomy on-site at the PSC as part of the Rendez-Vous concept were compared with 72 patients who were transferred from a PSCs to the CSC for thrombectomy when diagnosed with LVO in terms of temporal sequences and clinical outcomes. The crucial aspect of the concept is that the patient is not transferred for the intervention but is treated on site and the cardiologist actively starts the intervention while the neurointerventionalist rushes to the site as soon as possible. Results Patients treated on-site at the PSC as part of the Rendez-Vous approach were managed as successfully and without an increase in complication rates compared with patients treated secondarily at a CSC (91.7% successful interventions in Rendez-Vous vs. 87.3% in control group, p=0.57). The time from diagnosis of LVO to groin puncture was reduced by 68.3 minutes with the Rendez-Vous concept (p<0.01). Regarding the clinical outcome, a functionally independent status was achieved in 37.0 % in the Rendez-Vous group and in 19.4% in the control group (p=0.012). Conclusion Interdisciplinary teamwork between cardiology and interventional neuroradiology in rural PSCs leads to shorter times to successful reperfusion in patients with severe ischemic stroke due to LVO. This has a potentially positive impact on the clinical outcome of stroke patients and should be considered as a possible care concept in similar stroke networks.Rendez-Vous concept in stroke management

Trauma Informed Care Can Enhance Whole Person Care to Meet the Quadruple Aim

Objective: Whole person care typically includes a biopsychosocial, interdisciplinary treatment approach with the intent of improved health outcomes and savings in total dollars spent on healthcare providers and services. Its multidimensional approach to a patient’s physical and mental health makes it the model of choice for achieving the quadruple aim of healthcare reform. However, we argue that whole person care is incomplete in its current form due to its lack of attention to the public health impact of stress and psychological trauma. Methods: We used seminal articles, original research and theory, and a variety of databases such as PubMed, and Google Scholar to research our topic. Results: Whole person care would benefit from the integration of traumainformed care practices, so that it can better meet the quadruple aim by addressing these broader public health concerns. Trauma-informed care was selected because it understands, recognizes, and responds appropriately to trauma in patients and providers, which enhances the effectiveness of healthcare delivery and reduces the impact of social inequity. Conclusion: Integrating traumainformed care into whole person care can help achieve the quadruple aim, as well as the newly proposed fifth aim of advancing health equity, because social inequity increases stress and exposure to psychological trauma.

Interdisciplinary defect reconstruction of upper aerodigestive fistulas-case series and treatment algorithm

Persistent complex defects and dysfunctions of the upper aerodigestive tract after tumor surgery represent amajor challenge. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary approach using the free anterolateral thigh flap (ALT) as areconstruction option in the upper aerodigestive tract. The retrospective study identified 5patients with complex defects after laryngectomy/pharyngolaryngectomy (LE/PLE) and multiple revision surgeries between 2017 and 2023. The operations were performed by an interdisciplinary team from otolaryngology, plastic surgery, and visceral/thoracic surgery. The results of the microsurgical reconstruction were analyzed. There was an average of six previous operations. The defects included tracheoesophageal fistulas, pharyngocutaneous fistulas, neopharyngeal stenosis, and combinations thereof. Successful reconstruction was achieved in 100% of patients using the ALT flap. In 2patients, ALT flow-through flaps were used with an additional free jejunal interposition (JI) and in 3patients split-ALT flaps were used. The major complication rate was 40% and the minor complication rate was 20%. Complex defects of the upper aerodigestive tract with multiple previous operations can be successfully reconstructed. Because of its versatility, the ALT flap seems to be avery good option. Prerequisite for this is an interdisciplinary treatment approach with acritical assessment of patient- and disease-specific factors.

Osteoporotic vertebral body fractures

The number of osteoporotic fractures of the spine is increasing. These fractures are associated with elevated morbidity and mortality. This article provides an overview of the special features of these fractures, the diagnostic procedure, their classification, and the conservative and surgical treatment options. For the mostly elderly patients, it is important to treat the underlying disease and to address associated problems such as frailty and sarcopenia. To meet this growing medical and socio-economic challenge, aholistic interdisciplinary and interprofessional treatment approach is required.

Mentalizing the pain-Implementation of amentalization-based manual for the therapeutic support of pain patients.

Chronic pain is usually acomplex disorder with possible indications for an impairment at the personality functioning level. Guidelines recommend amultiprofessional interdisciplinary treatment approach. Based on the alternative model of personality disorders of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM-5) and the International Classification of Diseases, eleventh revision (ICD-11), an integrative manual was designed to exactly fit the interdisciplinary multimodal treatment of patients of the day clinic for pain at the orthopedic clinic of the University Hospital Heidelberg. The treatment manual specifically promotes various areas of personality functioning levels, such as emotion regulation, identity, empathy and relationships through individual and group interventions against the background of amentalization-based therapeutic attitude. Afocus group was used to qualitatively evaluate the implementation of the new treatment manual. With good applicability of the manual and satisfaction of the therapy team, acommon language for the interdisciplinary team could be created to improve the therapeutic interaction.

Challenges and concepts in the diagnosis and management of ocular graft-versus-host disease.

Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is characterized by tissue inflammation in the host following an allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). The pathophysiology is complex and only incompletely understood yet. Donor lymphocyte interaction with the histocompatibility antigens of the host plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of the disease. Inflammation may affect multiple organs and tissues, e.g., the gastrointestinal tract, liver, lung, fasciae, vaginal mucosa, and the eye. Subsequently, alloreactive donor-derived T and B lymphocytes may lead to severe inflammation of the ocular surface (i.e., cornea and conjunctiva) and the eyelids. Furthermore, fibrosis of the lacrimal gland may lead to severe dry eye. This review focuses on ocular GVHD (oGVHD) and provides an overview of current challenges and concepts in the diagnosis and management of oGVHD. Ophthalmic manifestations, diagnostic procedures, grading of severity and recommendations for ophthalmic examination intervals are provided. Management of ocular surface disease with lubricants, autologous serum eye drops, topical anti-inflammatory agents and systemic treatment options are described based on the current evidence. Ocular surface scarring and corneal perforation are severe complications of oGVHD. Therefore, ophthalmic screening and interdisciplinary treatment approaches are highly relevant to improve the quality of life of patients and to prevent potentially irreversible visual loss.

Effect of a computerized decision support system on the treatment approach of stage III or IV pressure injury in patients with spinal cord injury: a feasibility study

BackgroundStage III and IV pressure injuries (PIs) in patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) require complex interdisciplinary and interprofessional treatment approaches that are difficult to implement. Practical aspects, such as information exchange and coordination, remain challenging. We investigated whether a computerized decision support system (CDSS) could increase treatment adherence and improve clinical outcomes and interprofessional collaboration.MethodIn this feasibility study, a core team developed the initial treatment process and adapted it based on several discussions with clinical experts and information technologists. The CDSS followed the Basel Decubitus Approach and was used in a clinic specializing in SCI. Thirty patients with SCI admitted for stage III/IV PI between July 2016 and May 2017 were randomly allocated to standard or CDSS-supported care. Between-group differences in treatment adherence, complication rates, length of stay, and costs were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The use of the CDSS and potential barriers and facilitators were evaluated through interprofessional focus groups, transcribed verbatim, and thematically analyzed (30 participants).ResultsNo differences in SCI characteristics, comorbidities, or PI characteristics (localization: ischium [number (n) = 19 PI, 63%], sacrum [n = 10 PI, 33%], recurrent PI [n = 21, 70%]) were found between the two groups. Furthermore, no statistically significant differences were observed in treatment adherence, frequency of major (20% vs. 13% between CDSS and control group) and minor (33% vs 27%) complications, and length of stay (98 [±28] vs 81 [±23] days). Healthcare professionals found the CDSS to be helpful for visualizing the treatment process. However, the high workload and difficulties in the information technology processes, such as missing reminders, slow computer performance and data processing, and poor accessibility, hindered the effective implementation of the CDSS.ConclusionThe implementation of the CDSS to support the treatment of stage III/IV PI in patients with SCI was feasible and included definitions of milestones, interventions, and outcomes. However, to assess the impact of the CDSS, a longer observation period is required. Further, the technical difficulties must be addressed, and solid integration of the CDSS into the clinical information system is necessary.Trial RegistrationThis quality improvement project received a declaration of no objection from the Ethics Committee of Northwest and Central Switzerland (EKNZ UBE-16/003), and ethical approval was received for the focus groups (EKNZ Req-2017-00860).

Forty-five-months follow-up of a minimally invasive, interdisciplinary treated hemangioma of the mandible with a high risk of severe bleeding – a case report

BackgroundHemangiomas are benign tumours, mostly seen in the soft tissues. The intraosseous appearance is rare, in particular in the jaws they represent a very seldom malformation.AimTo present a combined endodontic and surgical management report of a clinical case with a rare intraosseous hemangioma diagnosis in the mandible.Case presentationThis well-documented case report describes the interdisciplinary treatment approach of an intraosseous hemangioma in the left mandible of a 70-year-old male patient. This incidental finding was detected through a routine dental examination. The panoramic radiograph revealed an asymptomatic, apical translucency approximately 15 mm diameter with contact to the mesial root of the tooth 36. The clinical examinations showed no abnormalities. The multifaceted specialized treatments started with the endodontic treatment of the tooth prior to the surgical removal of the lesion and were followed by the histological assessment. As derived from the histologically verified diagnosis, this rare case included the risk of severe bleeding complications during therapy.

Clinical practice recommendations for diabetes in pregnancy (Update 2023)

In 1989 the St. Vincent Declaration aimed to achieve comparable pregnancy outcomes in women with diabetes and those with normal glucose tolerance. However, currently women with pre-gestational diabetes still feature ahigher risk of perinatal morbidity and even increased mortality. This fact is mostly ascribed to apersistently low rate of pregnancy planning and pre-pregnancy care with optimization of metabolic control prior to conception. All women should be experienced in the management of their therapy and on stable glycemic control prior to conception. In addition, thyroid dysfunction, hypertension as well as the presence of diabetic complications should be excluded or treated adequately before pregnancy in order to decrease the risk for aprogression of complications during pregnancy as well as maternal and fetal morbidity. Near normoglycaemia and HbA1c in the normal range are targets for treatment, preferably without the induction of frequent resp. severe hypoglycaemic reactions. Especially in women with type1diabetes mellitus the risk of hypoglycemia is high in early pregnancy, but it decreases with the progression of pregnancy due to hormonal changes causing an increase of insulin resistance. In addition, obesity increases worldwide and contributes to higher numbers of women at childbearing age with type2diabetes mellitus and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Intensified insulin therapy with multiple daily insulin injections and pump treatment are equally effective in reaching good metabolic control during pregnancy. Insulin is the primary treatment option. Continuous glucose monitoring often adds to achieve targets. Oral glucose lowering drugs (Metformin) may be considered in obese women with type2diabetes mellitus to increase insulin sensitivity but need to be prescribed cautiously due to crossing the placenta and lack of long-time follow up data of the offspring (shared decision making). Due to increased risk for preeclampsia in women with diabetes screening needs to be performed. Regular obstetric care as well as an interdisciplinary treatment approach are necessary to improve metabolic control and ensure the healthy development of the offspring.

Psoriasis is one of the most common skin diseases. 30% of patients with psoriasis may develop psoriatic arthritis, which can lead to complex joint deformity and early disability. In this case, it is very important to have an interdisciplinary approach in the selective treatment of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis using genetically engineered biological drugs. In our article, we present a world literature review on the use of genetically engineered biological drugs in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, describe a clinical case of psoriasis with psoriatic arthritis with effective basic treatment.

INTERDISCIPLINARY DENTAL TREATMENT FOR CONGENITAL ABSENCE OF MAXILLARY LATERAL INCISORS

The interdisciplinary approach to dental treatment is associated with an increasing number of severe dental anomalies. One of the most common dental anomalies according to modern research is congenital absence of teeth. This pathology requires individual approach and complex treatment using digital dentistry. Dental practice experience of the authors shows that interdisciplinary approach in treatment of patients with congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors should include the work of oral surgeon, orthodontist, prosthodontist, periodontist and dental technician. the aim of the research was to increase effectiveness and aesthetic results of the treatment of patients with congenital congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors using dental implants, orthodontic treatment and digital prosthetics. Materials and methods. 84 patients with congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors were treated with orthodontic and dental implants in the area of the missing teeth from 1998 to 2022. a total of 32 patients (10 men and 22 women,16 to 35 years old) underwent the complete treatment with previous orthodontic treatment, braces on the top or bottom teeth and dental implants in 1.2 and 2.2. Sixty-four implants of different systems – Astra Tech, Nobel Biocare, Straumann, Mis, Conmet, STI-OL, STAS, RADIX and others were placed. Patients were evaluated at all stages of treatment. Patients were followed up for more than 20 years. Results. the number of successful cases of rehabilitation of patients with congenital absence of teeth was 93.75%. Total failure rate was in the first follow-up year (1999) and was eliminated. Conclusions. Use of the interdisciplinary approach, special dental implant planning software, template-assisted guided surgery, metal-free prosthetic restorations according to CAD/CAM technology in treatment of patients with congenital absence of maxillary lateral incisors allows to achieve effective functional and esthetic of the dentoalveolar structure.

Treatment of Complex Wounds with NovoSorb® Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM)-A Retrospective Analysis of Clinical Outcomes.

Complex and chronic wounds represent a highly prevalent condition worldwide that requires a multimodal and interdisciplinary treatment approach to achieve good functional and aesthetic outcomes. Due to increasing costs of health care, an aging population and an increase in difficult-to-treat microbial colonization of wounds, complex wounds will become a substantial clinical, social and economic challenge in the upcoming years. In plastic reconstructive surgery, a variety of dermal skin substitutes have been established for clinical use. Since its approval as a dermal skin substitute in Germany, NovoSorb® Biodegradable Temporising Matrix (BTM) has become a valuable therapeutic option for the treatment of full-thickness wound defects. The clinical data published to date are limited to case reports and small-scale case series with the main focus on single wounds. The aim of this single-center study was a retrospective analysis of our own patient collective that has received treatment with BTM for complex wounds. Overall, BTM showed to be a reliable and versatile reconstructive option, especially for patients with multiple co-morbidities and microbiologically colonized wounds. Although the preliminary findings have produced promising results, further investigation and research are warranted regarding long-term outcomes and additional clinical applications.

Examining the interdisciplinary approach for treatment of persistent post-concussion symptoms in adults: a systematic review.

The objective of this review is to examine the evidence for the interdisciplinary approach in treatment of persistent post-concussion symptoms in adults. This systematic literature search was undertaken according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. Five electronic databases were searched: CINAHL, Informit, ProQuest, PubMed and Scopus. After screening and quality assessment, the review included six studies published in English and peer-reviewed journals, between 2011 and 2021 to return contemporary evidence. The results revealed that there was significant variation between measures used and the timing of the pre- and post-treatment assessment. The studies found an interdisciplinary approach to be beneficial, however, the challenges of inherent heterogeneity, lack of clarity for definitions and diagnosis, and mixed results were apparent. The interdisciplinary interventions applied in all identified studies were found to reduce post-concussion symptoms across the symptom subtypes: headache/migraine, vestibular, cognitive, ocular motor and anxiety/mood. The results demonstrated evidence for a reduction in persistent post-concussion symptoms following interdisciplinary intervention. This evidence will inform health services, clinicians, sports administrators and researchers with regard to concussion clinic and rehabilitation team design and service delivery.

Oral-Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: A Prospective Clinical Study.

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) represents an adverse side effect of antiresorptive and antiangiogenic medications. It is associated with impaired quality of life, oral health, and oral function and can be classified into various stages. The purpose of this prospective clinical study is to evaluate the impact of stages I and II MRONJ on oral-health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and related parameters. Patients’ OHRQoL, satisfaction with life, oral discomfort, and oral health were assessed using the German version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-G49), visual analog scales (VAS), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) at baseline (T0), 10 days (T1), and 3 months after treatment (T2) in 36 patients. Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, two-way mixed ANOVAs, and follow-up Mann–Whitney U tests. The impact of treatment effects on the original seven OHIP domain structures and the recently introduced four-dimensional OHIP structure were evaluated using linear regression analysis. Thirty-six patients received surgical MRONJ treatment. Before treatment, patients’ perceived OHRQoL, oral discomfort, oral health, and satisfaction with life were negatively affected by MRONJ. Surgical treatment significantly improved OHRQoL and related parameters (all p ≤ 0.012). This improvement was greater in patients with higher impairment at T0. OHRQoL and oral restrictions were still impaired after treatment in patients who needed prosthetic treatment. The four-dimensional structure revealed valuable information beyond the standard seven OHIP domains. Increased awareness of MRONJ risks and an interdisciplinary treatment approach for MRONJ patients are needed.

German S2e-Guideline "Knee Dislocation".

Knee dislocation is a devastating form of multiligament injury of the knee. Due to its high complexity, there is a large number of different diagnostic and treatment strategies. With the aim of providing evidence-based treatment recommendations, the S2e guideline on knee dislocation is aimed at all professional groups involved in diagnostics and therapy (orthopaedic and trauma surgeons, physiotherapists, outpatient/inpatient surgeons, sports physicians, etc.) as well as those affected (patients with knee dislocation) and service providers (health insurance companies, pension insurance companies). In addition to the presentation of conceptual differences between the injury entities, this includes the special features of diagnostic testing, options for conservative and surgical therapy as well as aspects of follow-up treatment - against the background of the interdisciplinary treatment approach to a severe knee injury.

Concentrated transdiagnostic and cross-disciplinary group treatment for patients with depression and with anxiety: a pilot study

BackgroundA number of treatment approaches have shown efficacy for depression and/or anxiety, yet there is a paucity of research on potentially cost-effective concentrated approaches. Based on our previous experience with concentrated treatment in disorders such as Obsessive–Compulsive Disorder and chronic fatigue, we proposed that this novel approach could be useful for other conditions, including depression and/or anxiety. As a pre-requisite for a future randomized controlled trial, the aim of this study was to investigate the acceptability, satisfaction and effectiveness of a transdiagnostic, interdisciplinary group treatment delivered during 5 consecutive days to groups of 6–10 patients with depression and/or anxiety.MethodsThis was a non-randomized clinical intervention pilot study in line with a published protocol. Forty-two consecutively referred patients, aged 19–47 (mean age 31.7, SD = 8.12) were included and completed treatment. All had a severity of their problems that entitled them to care in the specialist public mental health care. Self-reported age when the symptoms became a problem was 20.9 years. Mean number of prior treatment courses was 2.77 (SD = 2.19; range 0–8). Acceptability was defined as the proportion of eligible patients who accepted and completed the treatment. Satisfaction was evaluated by Client Satisfaction Questionnaire-8. Secondary objectives were to assess the treatment effectiveness by questionnaires at pre-treatment, seven days post-treatment and three months follow-up.ResultsThe treatment was highly acceptable (91.3% accepted, all completed), and patients were highly satisfied with the treatment, including the amount. Functional impairment, as measured by Work and Social Adjustment Scale (WSAS) improved significantly (p < .0005) from “severe” (mean 25.4 SD = 6.59) to “less severe” (mean 13.37, SD = 9.43) at 3 months follow-up. Using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the effect sizes at 3 months follow-up were 1.21 for anxiety and 1.3 for depression. More than 80% reported reduced utilization of mental health care, and 67% had not used, or had used the family doctor less, for anxiety or depression. 52% had not used, or had reduced, medication for their disorder.Conclusions The concentrated, interdisciplinary treatment approach yielded promising results. Interventional embolization combined with surgical resection for treatment of extracranial AVM of the head and neck: A monocentric retrospective analysis.

The aim of this study was to demonstrate the efficacy and feasibility of treating patients with extracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVM) of the head and neck with interventional embolization followed by surgical resection. We reviewed the charts of all patients between 2012 and 2021 with extracranial AVM of the head and neck scheduled for interdisciplinary treatment according to University Hospital RWTH Aachen's protocol and conducted standardized interviews using a newly developed questionnaire. Interview results, as well as clinical examination and radiographic outcome results were analyzed to help determine the efficacy of our treatment approach. We included 10 patients (8 female, 2 male), with a mean age of 33.5 (11-61) years who were scheduled for treatment of the AVM with interventional embolization followed by surgical resection. In 6 of the 10 patients (60%) the lesion was located in extracranial soft tissue only. In one patient (10%), the lesion was located in bone tissue only. A combined intraosseous and oral soft tissue lesion was seen in the remaining 3 patients (30%). Radiographic resolution was achieved in 62.5% of cases and a significant decrease of symptoms was identified (p = 0.002). None of the patients reported dissatisfaction and no major complications occurred. An interdisciplinary treatment approach combining neuroradiological interventions with surgical resection appears to be an effective treatment with an acceptable complication rate. Patients treated according to our protocol showed a high satisfaction rate, regardless of the radiographic outcome. Standardized follow-up allows for early detection of recurrences and helps with subjective patient satisfaction.
