APPLICATION OF VISCOELASTIC SYSTEMS IN OIL PRODUCTION INTENSIFICATION PROCESSES

This paper provides an overview of viscoelastic behavior and the use of viscoelastic fluids (VBLs) in various oil production intensification processes. The first part provides basic models describing viscoelastic behavior and corresponding equations of state. Describes the method of testing under the action of harmonic vibrations (method of dynamic tests), possible options for its implementation and the determined rheological properties of the viscoelastic sample. To interpret the results of dynamic tests, a complex module is most often introduced, which consists of two components — the elastic modulus (G’) and the loss modulus (G’’). These dynamic modules and their relationship describe the behavior of the viscoelastic sample. It is shown that with respect to modules, it is possible to conclude on the type of sample - viscoelastic liquid or viscoelastic body. It is also noted that dynamic tests should be carried out in the area of low amplitudes of oscillating loads, in which the rheological properties do not depend on the applied stress or strain. The second part provides examples of viscoelastic systems used in operations such as water flow isolation, hydraulic fracturing, and modified acid treatments. The most common viscoelastic systems used in various technologies are solutions of surfactants and polymers of different structures. It is noted that in order to obtain a viscoelastic gel, polymer solutions are used with a crosslinker, while the rheological properties of surfactant solutions are controlled by external factors — pH, temperature, water mineralization. Viscoelastic surfactant solutions have an advantage over polymer solutions ‑ they are able to recover their properties after mechanical or thermal exposure due to the formation of supramolecular structures as a result of selforganization of surfactant molecules. The surfactant-based HLT property of reversibly collapsing and recovering is used, in particular, to reduce pressure losses to overcome friction. In flow-deflecting acid compositions, viscoelastic surfactants are mainly used, the most common of which are given in the second part of the article.

SELECTION OF THE OPTIMAL METHOD OF INTENSIFICATION AND STABILIZATION OF OIL PRODUCTION IN THE FIELDS OF WESTERN KAZAKHSTAN

The article discusses research aimed at determining the effectiveness of measures to intensify oil production in the fields of Western Kazakhstan. Based on the results obtained, recommendations were developed for the further application of oil production intensification methods for the conditions of West Kazakhstan fields. The highest oil displacement coefficient (ODC) in the development of high-viscosity oils can be achieved using thermal production methods. To reduce viscosity, in practice, deep warming of the bottom-hole zone of the well is used, which can be carried out by electrothermal treatment of the bottom-hole zone of the formation, steam treatment of wells using downhole solid fuel heat generators, and so on. A combined heating method is proposed that allows heating the well products. Heating is provided by a solar panel all year round. In case of a decrease in solar activity, it automatically switches to a constant electric current. This method differs from others in that the solar panel continuously supplies electricity, reducing the consumption of electrical energy. In addition, the article presents the results of studies of the optimal heating temperature of the bottom-hole formation zone, potential well flow rates at this temperature and oil viscosity. Recommendations are given on the most rational way of heating the bottom-hole zone of wells in the fields of Western Kazakhstan.

Intensification of oil production using enzyme solutions

The purpose of this work is to search for an area of effective use of enzyme solutions for the intensification of oil production within fields of various geological structures due to their entry into the final stage of operation, which is characterized by a multiple decrease in oil production volumes, an increase in the water content of products and an increase in the accident rate of the producing well stock. The scientific novelty of the work is based on the empirical determination of various parameters of enzyme solutions that can be successfully regulated during the implementation of injection. Based on laboratory studies of enzyme based complexes, it has been shown that in order to prevent a decrease in enzyme activity in reservoir conditions due to high mineralization and temperature, it is necessary to include chelated compounds in order to limit the influence of metal ions. The optimal concentration of enzyme solutions and surfactants for the minimum value of surface tension has been found out, the achievement of which makes it possible to significantly increase the displacement coefficient, and, consequently, the oil recovery coefficient. To form a qualitative sample of data, the initial geological and commercial material was carefully selected and ranked, which allowed to obtain a minimum error in the calculations. The results of the study of the thermal stability of the enzyme complex showed that the interfacial tension between the solution of the enzyme complex and kerosene is much less than the interfacial tension between seawater and kerosene, which is proof of the thermal stability of the enzyme complex at reservoir temperature. The obtained material can be used both for carrying out various geological and technical measures using enzyme solutions, and for implementing a competent approach to the issue of implementing the optimal chemical composition of the working agent.

Intensification of oil production through the use of hydraulic fracturing fluid based on polyacrylamide

The article considers the technology of Hydraulic Fracturing (HF) based on polyacrylamide (Co-PAM), identifies parameters for evaluating the quality of the fluid both on a guar and polyacrylamide base. Fluid viscosity is a main criteria of success of HF operations. Thus, fluid thermal stability, determine the pumping time. The composition of the Co-PAM-based HF fluid differs from the guar-based one, consisting of two main chemical reagents - a gelling agent and a crosslinker(x-linker), in that only a synthetic gelling agent is used. Recommended concentration starts from 4 l/m3. At this concentration the synthetic gel starts to exhibit properties of a sand-carrying fluid, suitable for standard pump rate (4.0-5.0 m3/min) HF. A significant advantage is compliance with the requirements for HF fluids which not only improves the filtration properties of the formation but also considers the economic feasibility of using such a chemical reagent. Co-PAM gel using provides reduction of logistics costs, water heating. Also it allows to exclude hydration unit, reduced crew, decreased wear on pumping units, including reduced consumption of lubricants during the HF operation.

Thermal-gas-chemical method for oil production intensification in low-temperature reservoirs

A method is proposed for developing an oil deposit based on low-temperature oil oxidation as a result of initiating an exothermic reaction and subsequent injection of oxygen-containing gas into the reservoir. In the proposed method, which includes successive injection of aqueous solutions of potassium salt and sulfuric acid into the well, light oil or gas condensate is injected into the deposit before injection of the aqueous acid solution. Further, after injection of an aqueous solution of sulfuric acid into the formation, air is pumped with further pushing with water. In the method, a 16% aqueous solution of potassium dichromate is used as an aqueous solution of potassium salt. The application of the proposed technology led to an increase in the temperature in the reservoir above 200 °C and an increase in the displacement efficiency up to 19.7%. Intensification of oil production in long-term developed offshore fields


 
 
 Reasonable allocation of operational facilities in the context of multilayered reservoirs is the foundation of all scientific and practical work on the development of petroleum fields. The parameters of deposits are subject to changes over the course of development, and therefore the previously identified system of objects should be updated periodically. This is especially true for offshore multilayered fields, mining which is time-limited due to corrosion of hydraulic structures and high costs for their renewal. In this regard, the rate of using offshore deposits should be quite high not only at the initial stages, but also remain so in subsequent mining periods. Maintaining a high rate of mining is often associated with high material costs (drilling new wells to compact the well network, applying new methods of enhanced oil recovery, etc.), which is not economically viable for the fields in long-term operation. As the practice of mining multilayered fields in Azerbaijan shows, the enlargement of objects allows compacting a mining network while maintaining the total number of wells for a field. At the same time, average daily oil production rates significantly increase as a result having included capacities of contiguous objects. The research aimed at identifying similarities or differences between adjacent horizons of the section of multilayered deposits. Based on the delineated boundaries, there are possibilities of their joint operation as one object, separate or simultaneous-separate operation of wells under appropriate technical conditions. As a result of such measures, all the wells are used rationally and the development rates are increased without additional capital investment. Section of objects of the 3rd tectonic block of the Neft Daşları offshore field, confined to the Apsheron archipelago of the South Caspian Depression (SCW). The Rodionov’s method was used for a substantial and reliable identification of stratigraphic boundaries. Preliminarily, based on averaged data on 11 parameters, we calculated ꭓ2g:m critical value at 95% significance, corresponding to m=0.05, which is used to assess the state of boundaries between the horizons. Then, by implementing software, the values for the boundaries of adjacent objects were calculated, comparing which with the critical value allowed for a conclusion about possible joint or separate mining of those productive strata. As a result of the implementation of the corresponding program, the clarity of the boundaries between the objects of the 3rd tectonic block of the offshore Neft Dashlari field was determined. The need for joint exploita- tion of horizons VII and VIIa, KS1 and KS2, as well as KaS1 and KaS2 horizons has been determined, which would optimize the mining of the field and is economically feasible.
 
 

Overview of Methods for Enhanced Oil Recovery from Conventional and Unconventional Reservoirs

In world practice, the role of reproduction of raw material base of oil production by implementing modern methods of oil recovery enhancement (thermal, gas, chemical, microbiological) on the basis of innovative techniques and technologies is rapidly growing and is becoming more important. It is concluded that at present, the priority of increasing oil reserves in world oil production is the development and industrial introduction of modern integrated methods of enhanced oil recovery, which can provide a synergistic effect in the development of new and developed oil fields. This article presents a review and comparative analysis of theoretical and practical methods of improving oil recovery of conventional and unconventional reservoirs. The paper examines in detail methods of improving oil recovery, taking into account the factors of enhanced oil recovery of oil reservoirs. Considered the main methods and technologies currently used to develop oil fields and recommendations for their effective use, taking into account the variety of external factors of oil production: the geological structure of the reservoir, its volume, and properties of oils. It is shown that there is no universal method of oil reservoir development, and it must be chosen after a thorough feasibility study among several proposed models. When describing the methods of enhanced oil recovery, special attention is also paid to the physical processes that occur as a result of applying the technology. In conclusion, the positive and negative characteristics of the presented methods included in EOR are presented, and recommendations that may influence the choice of practical solutions for engineers and oil producers are given. Conclusions are made that development systems, placement and choice of operating mode of wells essentially depend on the geological structure of the reservoir, its volume and properties of oils. An important role in this is the construction of a geological model of the production facility. The used hydrodynamic models of development are based on physical laws, about which oil producers sometimes don’t even suspect, and the authors of the models are not always able to convey it to the real producers. The authors consider it reasonable to make a logical generalizing conclusion that understanding processes occurring in the reservoir and taking appropriate measures for optimization and intensification of oil production will allow making oil production as effective as possible.

EXPERIMENTAL AND NUMERICAL RESEARCH IN THE FLEXIBLE PIPES OF COIL TUBING INSTALLATIONS TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE RHEOLOGY OF THE TECHNOLOGICAL FLUID

The current direction of the country's economic development is an intensive increase in hydrocarbon production on the territory of Ukraine, the introduction of new modern technologies and an increase in the efficiency of power equipment. One of the modern directions used in the oil and gas industry is the use of specialized equipment for coiled tubing units. Also, with the development of well drilling and oil production intensification technologies, modern multicomponent flushing (process) waters appear. The need for polymers is based on their ability to influence the properties of aqueous and hydrocarbon systems and form gels of different density, viscosity and rheology. Polymer systems are widely used due to their high cleaning, transporting and holding properties. Widely known polymer systems of technological solutions based on Xanthan Gum. Generalized information about the rheological parameters of fluids used to intensify the work of oil and gas wells is considered. The main rheological indicators of the studied liquid are the shear stress and the strain rate of the medium. These indicators are determined using an OFITE 900 rotational viscometer. The results of experimental studies of the properties of an aqueous solution with different concentrations of Xanthan gum from 0.6 to 8 g/l are presented. The study showed that an aqueous solution of gum creates a non-Newtonian behavior of the liquid. The coefficients of the rheological model of the solution were obtained by approximation of laboratory data. To simulate the hydrodynamic characteristics of a polymer system, a nonlinear viscous fluid model and a model with the introduction of effective viscosity are used. The results of studies of rheology indicators are used to determine the fluid flow regime, predict the hydraulic resistance coefficients in pipes and the energy characteristics of pumping equipment for supplying process fluid to the well. Experimental and calculated dependences of the influence of polymer additives on the resistance to the movement of liquids in coiled tubing of a coiled tubing unit are presented. The analysis of experimental and numerous hydrodynamic studies has been carried out. For numerical simulation of the hydrodynamics of non-Newtonian behavior of fluid in pipes, the open integrated platform OpenFOAM is used.

Intensification of oil production using water-air mixture

The inhibitors based on nano-containing compositions (NCC) have been developed for hardness deposition. A method for developing an inhibitor for saline deposits involves the interaction of amino alcohols with orthophosphoric acid by adding nanoparticles and further diluting them with water to form a 2% solution. It was found out that the inhibitors developed by NSC for saline deposits at a flow rate of 20-30 mg/l are highly effective for controlling the deposits of calcium and magnesium sulfate in the produced water model. The controlling effect of inhibition in these cases is 86.3-99.4%. Keywords: oil saturation; permeability; formation; polymer; water-air mixture; viscosity.

Surfactant enzymes combined application for oil production intensification in Vietnam

The article shows that in the conditions of Vietnamese fields to prevent a decrease in the enzymes activity in reservoir conditions due to high salinity and temperature, it is necessary to include chelate compounds limiting the metal ions influence. The results of the EDTA-chelate experiment showed that at EDTA concentrations from 2.0 to 0.8%, the turbidity of the enzyme solution decreased during the testing time, demonstrating the positive effect of EDTA with enzymes in a salt water environment. The results of a study comparing changes in the enzyme and surfactant solutions surface tension showed that the addition of 1% stabilizer EDTA, 1% surfactant alpha-olefinsulfonate to the enzyme solution increases the activity of the system. Based on the experimental data obtained using the Modde 5.0 software, the optimal concentrations of enzyme and surfactant solutions for the minimum value of surface tension were determined. The optimal effect of the minimum surface tension value is 1.735 mN/m with components was obtained at a ratio of components enzyme:surfactant=0.477:0.3. Based on the results of optimization, the component composition of the system was obtained: microbial product of enzyme origin is 50%; Surfactant is 30%; stabilizer is 1.0%; microorganisms inhibitor is 0.5%. The article presents the laboratory studies results of enzyme-based complexes. It has been shown that to prevent a decrease in enzyme activity in reservoir conditions due to high salinity and temperature, it is necessary to include chelate compounds to limit the effect of metal ions. The results of the EDTA-chelate experiment showed that at EDTA concentrations between 2 and 0.8%, the turbidity of the enzyme solution decreased during the testing time, demonstrating the positive effect of using EDTA with enzymes in a salt water environment. On the basis of experiment the optimal enzyme solutions and surfactants concentration for the minimum surface tension value has been clarified. The optimal effect of the minimum surface tension value is 1.735 mN/m with components was obtained at the enzyme:surfactant ratio equal to 0.477:0.3. The thermal stability of the enzyme complex study results showed that the interfacial tension between the enzyme complex solution and kerosene is much less than the interfacial tension between sea water and kerosene (21.75 mN/m), and this is proof of the enzyme complex thermal stability at the reservoir temperature. Attempts of Forcing Oil Production on the Eve of the Great Patriotic War

In this study, the problem of attempts to reorganize the USSR's oil industry on the eve of the Great Patriotic War and speed up oil production and oil refining to ensure industrialization and defense plans are investigated. The conclusion is formulated that the plans were not fully supported by financial, human, and technological resources. The reasons for the failure to fulfill the plans were strategic miscalculations, ignoring the recommendations of leading scientists and the repression against a significant number of brilliant oil specialists who restored industry in the 1920s, reconstructing it and ensuring the flow of currency through the expansion of oil exports. The measures taken on the eve of the war to reorganize the management of the oil industry, its technical re-equipment, and intensification of oil production yielded specific results. But the growth rate of production was also hindered by insufficient exploration of areas and their unpreparedness for exploitation. Before the war, Azerbaijan remained the main oil base of the USSR. The development of “Second Baku” was unacceptably slow.

Research of methods for intensification of oil production from lower cretaceous sediments of Goryacheistochnenskoye field

The oil industry is faced with the task of determining the most effective technological schemes, while ensuring environmental and fire safety, which can increase the return of oil-producing reservoirs. During the development of the Lower Cretaceous oil deposits of the Goryacheistochnenskoye field, located at the eastern end of the Tersk Ridge, there is a tendency to decrease the flow rate of oil production wells due to deposits of hardly soluble asphaltene-tar-parfin substances in the elevator pipes. The drop in the well flow rate led to an increase in the temperature, pressure in the reservoir, as well as the intensity of deposits of colmating elements in the bottom-hole formation zone. The authors of the article propose to solve the problem of selecting an effective method of processing the near-well zone to increase oil recovery and by cleaning from colmating deposits. The main goal of the study is to identify the most effective way to treat the terrigenous near-well zone of the Lower Cretaceous formation in order to influence the skeletal structure of the reservoir rocks and combat colmating deposits. Various methods of impact on the bottom-hole zone of the well were studied. It is proposed to treat the terrigenous formation zones of the Lower Cretaceous deposits with organic RINGO-GKS and MKS solvents. Experimental fire-safe treatment of wells has shown an effective effect on the bottom-hole formation zone and its complete cleaning of colmatate deposits.

Expanding the amount of preferential royalty facilities with hard-to-recover oil reserves

The article deals with the economic attractiveness of hard-to-recover oil reserves in the Ural-Volga region development. The fuel and energy complex is a budgetforming one for oil-producing regions and contributes to the development of all sectors of the economy, and is bound by social responsibility. The current situation and trends in the global economy demonstrate that oil production intensification is a paramount task to all related industries efficiency improving, taxes being the main share in the cost structure. Therefore, in order to stimulate the reserves from low-permeability reservoirs development, tax exemptions are provided in the form of a reduced tax on mineral extraction. The paper considers an example of development efficiency improving due to tax incentives. According to the assessment results, the option with tax incentives is more beneficial for both the state and the subsoil user. Strategy of Compatible Use of Jet and Plunger Pump with Chrome Parts in Oil Well

During oil fields operation, gas is extracted along with oil. In this article it is suggested to use jet pumps for utilization of the associated oil gas, burning of which causes environmental degradation and poses a potential threat to the human body. In order to determine the possibility of simultaneous application of a sucker-rod pump, which is driven by a rocking machine, and a jet pump (ejector) in the oil well, it is necessary to estimate the distribution of pressure along the borehole from the bottomhole to the mouth for two cases: when the well is operated only be the sucker-rod pump and while additional installation of the oil-gas jet pump above its dynamic level. For this purpose, commonly known methods of Poettman-Carpenter and Baksendel were used. In addition, the equations of high-pressure and low-pressure oil-gas jet pumps were obtained for the case, when the working stream of the jet pump is a gas-oil production mixture and the injected stream is a gas from the annulus of the well. The values which are included in the resulting equations are interrelated and can only be found in a certain sequence. Therefore, a special methodology has been developed for the practical usage of these equations in order to calculate the working parameters of a jet pump based on the given independent working parameters of the oil well. Using this methodology, which was implemented in computer programs, many operating parameters were calculated both for the well and for the jet pump itself (pressures, densities of working, injected and mixed flows, flow velocities and other parameters in control sections). According to the results of calculations, graphs were built that indicate a number of regularities during the oil well operation with such a jet pump. The main result of the performed research is a recommendation list on the choice of the oil-gas jet pump location inside the selected oil well and generalization of the principles for choosing the perfect location of such ejectors for other wells. The novelty of the proposed study lays in a systematic approach to rod pump and our patented ejector pump operation in the oil and chrome plating of pump parts. The result of scientific research is a sound method of determining the rational location of the ejector in the oil well and the calculation of its geometry, which will provide a complete selection of petroleum gas released into the annulus of the oil well. To ensure reliable operation of jet and plunger pumps in oil wells, it is proposed to use reinforcement of parts (bushings, plungers, rods, etc.) by electrochemical chromium plating in a flowing electrolyte. This has significantly increased the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the operational surfaces of these parts and, accordingly, the service life of the pumps. Such measures will contribute to oil production intensification from wells and improve the environmental condition of oil fields.

Possibilities of accounting the fracturing of Kashiro-Vereyskian carbonate objects in planning of proppant hydraulic fracturing

One of the effective methods of oil production intensification for heterogeneous Kashiro-Vereyskian clay-carbonate sediments of the Volga-Ural oil and gas bearing province is proppant hydraulic fracturing. Prospects of realization for this technology are considered in the article on the example of the Vereyskian development object of Moskud’inskoye field. Based on the analysis of rocks samples investigations of Vereyiskian sediments, lithological types of carbonate rocks differing in their structural features are distinguished. Tomographic investigations of rock samples were carried out, as a result of which the rock fracturing for some lithotypes was determined and studieds. Under natural geological conditions, depending on the degree of fracturing progression and technological conditions of development, these intervals may or may not be involved in well operation. When hydraulic fracturing is performed, potentially fractured areas that are not in operation can be successfully added to oil production. Based on analysis of hydrodynamic well investigations, the fracturing of the Vereyskian object of the Moskud’inskoye field was studied on the basis of the Warren-Ruth model. With the help of geological and technological indicators of development, prediction fracturing was obtained, which was used for the construction of the natural fracturing scheme. Areas of both pore and fractured reservoirs development were identified on the deposit area. As a result of statistical analysis, the influence of fracturing on efficiency of proppant hydraulic fracturing was determined. Based on the linear discriminant analysis, a statistical model for predicting the efficiency of proppant fracturing was developed. It was shown that in addition to natural fracturing, the results are most strongly influenced by specific proppant yield, formation pressure, permeability of the remote bottomhole zone and skin effect. Based on the developed model, prospective production wells of the Moskud’inskoye field are identified for proppant hydraulic fracturing.

Influence of hydraulic compression on porosity and permeability properties of reservoirs

Active development of hard-to-recover oil reserves causes the need for an innovative approach to methods of oil recovery and intensification of its production, based on taking into account the specifics of filtration processes in low-productive reservoirs and complex geological and physical conditions. Pilot works for studying the mechanism of changes in porosity and permeability properties of reservoirs during swabbing of wells are presented. Based on the hydrodynamic investigations performed, the results of the work are analyzed. The method of oil production intensification using hydraulic compression of formation has been developed. It has been shown that when using hydraulic compression technology in the pore space of the formation, the effect of capillary and gravitational forces is strongly reduced. The influence of these forces decreases when significant pressure gradients with changing direction are formed during well swabbing for depression impact on the bottomhole zone of the formation. Hydraulic compression induced an increase in well productivity and flow rate; insights into how how permeability and porosity properties change during well swabbing were clarified. The range of compressive durability (minimum and maximum values) was determined for the Verean deposits of the Melekeskaya Depression and the South Tatar arch. The impact of formation hydraulic compression caused changes in permeability and porosity properties of the reservoir in the bottomhole zone on a qualitative level. Piezo- and hydraulic conductivity increased by 20 %. Experimental work in well 1545 of Keremetyevskoe field showed an increase of piezo- and hydraulic conductivity coefficients, effective formation thickness, change of filtration flows character.

Horizontal wells as a means of intensification of oil production

Numerous experimental and field studies have established that during the development of oil and gas fields, there are deformations of rocks that occur due to changes in reservoir pressure. It is established that with a drop in reservoir pressure, the volume of the pore space of the formation decreases due to the elastic expansion of the rock grains and an increase in compressive forces transmitted to the skeleton from the masses of the overlying rocks. As a result, there is a change in the deformation processes in the porous medium, accompanied by a decrease in its porosity and permeability, and a more significant change, compared with the porosity of the formation, is the permeability under one and the same pressure change. The manifestation of these anomalies in reservoir conditions, which cause nonlinear effects, can significantly affect the entire process of reservoir development and lead to various qualitative and quantitative discrepancies between the observed facts and the indicators that were calculated.

MATRIXES OF APPLICABILITY OF TRACER RESEARCH ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE ELEMENT OF NINE-POINT DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM WITH HYDRAULIC FRACTURING

This paper discusses the results of hydrodynamic modeling of tracer testing (TT) in the element of a nine-point development system with hydraulic fracturing. In the hydrodynamic simulator «RN-KIM» multi-parameter calculations of the movement of the labeled fluid were carried out for various parameters of the spontaneous growth of induced fractures (permeability, halflength), and formation permeability. An auto-hydraulic fracture is modeled as a highly permeable channel. Based on the results obtained from the hydrodynamic model, matrices of TI applicability were constructed depending on the formation permeability, permeability and half-length of the spontaneous growth of induced fractures. The research results can be used to tune hydrodynamic models, while monitoring the efficiency of the reservoir pressure maintenance system, which in turn will improve the efficiency of well operation control, reduce the risks of gas and oil water inflows during sidetracking and justify the planning of geological and technological measures aimed at increasing oil recovery and intensification of oil production.
