VINCENZI, HARRY, and MARASCHIELLO, RICHARD. Measuring Self-Responsibility: A Useful Interpretation. CmLD DEVELOPMENT, 1978, 49, 523-525. The study investigated the concurrent validity of the Intellectual Achievement Responsibility Scale (IAR), an instrument which measures locus of control in academic achievement situations. 27 teachers from 9 elementary schools rated 329 students (grades 3-6) internal or external in academic achievement situations. These ratings were then compared with the students' IAR scores. The results indicated a significant relationship (p < .001) between the teachers' ratings and the IAR scores. However, the relationship was not significant for white students, indicating that the IAR may be a more accurate measure of locus of control for black students.
