Introduction: Society faces one of the problems that affects its physical and personal integrity, such as crime, and this causes people to live in fear and therefore limit themselves to going out on the street, which causes social decomposition. The purpose of the research work is to analyze crime and its impact on social decomposition in the Virgen del Carmen neighborhood, city of La Libertad, in 2023. Objective: The general objective was to identify the level of criminal incidence through a situational and social diagnosis to determine its impact on social development. Theoretical framework: The literature is focused on the perspectives from which crime is studied, these perspectives are individualistic, sociological and psychosocial, which are described to support the theoretical relationship of this work. Method: The methodology applied was descriptive qualitative-quantitative research, non-experimental scope. The reliability test of the instrument was carried out using Cronbach's Alpha coefficient, the result was 0.908 as excellent. The alternative hypothesis is accepted, regarding the impact that crime has on social breakdown. Results and Discussion: The results showed that the population is afraid of crime, and considers the management of the competent authorities to be inefficient. Implications of the research: Timely solution actions are recommended that could be established as social intervention programs to mitigate the impact caused by crime, to strengthen the link between social policy and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), focusing on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Originality/Value: In relation to the level of impact that crime has on social breakdown, a palpable reality could be seen, in which many people choose not to go out to social or family events, so as not to be victims of crime, given that there are no organizations that help mitigate this social problem.
