Longtime nemeses or cordial allies? How individuals mentally relate science and religion.

Science and religion are influential social forces, and their interplay has been subject to many public and scholarly debates. The present article addresses how people mentally conceptualize the relationship between science and religion and how these conceptualizations can be systematized. To that end, we provide a comprehensive, integrative review of the pertinent literature. Moreover, we discuss how cognitive (in particular, epistemic beliefs) and motivational factors (in particular, epistemic needs, identity, and moral beliefs), as well as personality and contextual factors (e.g., rearing practices and cross-cultural exposure), are related to these mental conceptualizations. And finally, we provide a flowchart detailing the psychological processes leading to these mental conceptualizations. A comprehensive understanding of how individuals perceive the science-religion relationship is interesting in and of itself and practically relevant for managing societal challenges, such as science denial. Social determinants of health and teenage pregnancy: an integrative review

According to the World Health Organization, adolescence, which begins at the age of 10 and ends at 19, is full of transformations and is marked by a complex process of biopsychosocial development. Pregnancy in adolescence is seen as precocious and represents one of the most worrying events related to sexuality and health. The aim of this study was to understand the relationship between the SDH and teenage pregnancy, and thus provide scientific support for the development of public policies aimed at this segment of the population. This is an integrative literature review, carried out in the PubMed, Scielo and LILACS databases. Articles published between 2011 and 2021 were selected. Fourteen articles were found, but after applying the eligibility criteria, only eight were analyzed. The results were grouped into categories: social determinants of health and teenage pregnancy, association between health education and teenage pregnancy, level of knowledge of adolescents. There was a relationship between the social determinants of health and teenage pregnancy, and a focus on sex education and access to contraceptive services and methods emerged. Despite these findings, it is still necessary to understand the macro determinants, in which the socio-economic, political and cultural spheres are fundamental and require greater public health interventions.

Innovations produced in Primary Health Care during the COVID-19 pandemic: an integrative literature review.

Primary Health Care (PHC) proved to be an important part of the prevention, control and treatment measures against COVID-19, a situation in which it was challenged to keep up its provision of regular services as well. This article identifies the main arrangements made to provide PHC care in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. An integrative literature review of articles found in PubMed, SciELO and LILACS databases was performed using the descriptors "Primary Health Care" and "COVID-19". Findings were analyzed considering three questions: Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Organizations of Work Processes and Non-COVID Chronic Diseases. The use of different forms of ICT to provide PHC is highlighted regarding patients with respiratory symptoms and chronic patients. Changes in team composition, service flows, physical spaces and working hours were also introduced. Although strategies aimed at monitoring chronic patients and at remote care may have helped minimize deterioration of their health, the decrease in the number of visits performed during this period could have resulted in an increased demand for PHC in post-pandemic years.

Integrative Review of Sources of Baccalaureate Nursing Students' Clinical Practice Anxiety.

Nursing education research and anecdotal literature has revealed that undergraduate nursing students report anxiety related to clinical practice. Most published studies have focused on the effectiveness of interventions to reduce anxiety; only a few identify specific sources of clinical practice anxiety. We conducted an integrative literature review to understand the sources of nursing students' practice-related anxiety and how this anxiety has been measured. We classified sources of practice-related anxiety into nine themes grouped into five categories: consequences of making a mistake; fear of the unknown; incivility of staff members or teachers; threat to self-concept, image, or health; and theory-practice gap. Practice-related anxiety was measured quantitatively with various surveys and qualitatively using semistructured individual or group interviews and students' journal entries. Different sources of practice-related anxiety likely require distinct interventions. Further research is recommended to identify effective interventions to reduce anxiety related to each of the identified themes. [J Nurs Educ. 2024;63(6):349-355.].

Interventions to Increase the Diversity of Nursing Programs: An Integrative Review.

In 2011, the Institute of Medicine's The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report declared the need to increase diversity in nursing. The National League for Nursing stated that nursing pipeline programs would be essential to create increased diversity. However, no details regarding the definition, construction, or implementation of a nursing pipeline were available within the position statement. An inclusive integrative literature review was conducted. The aim was to examine interventions targeted toward increasing diversity in nursing education programs. Twelve articles were included in the review. Similar interventions were used by nursing education programs; these included strategies to raise awareness about nursing to prospective students, preen-try preparation, holistic admissions, scholarships, tutoring, mentoring, and targeted advising. Evidence indicates interventions aimed at the retention of at-risk individuals are successful. Additional research is needed to develop effective recruitment strategies for diverse populations. Nurses' attitudes, beliefs and knowledge of sleep health in residential aged care: An integrative literature review.

To identify, synthesize and evaluate primary research on registered nurses' (RN) knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about sleep health and sleep health management of older adults living in residential aged care. Integrative review. Medline, Embase and CINAHL databases from inception to September 2023. Databases were searched using a combination of key words, subject heading terms. All abstracts and full-text articles were screened by two researchers. Qualitative synthesis of the included articles was conducted. Inductive content analysis was used to identify themes and analyse data. A total of 923 abstracts were screened resulting in a final yield of 13 articles. Three themes were identified: (i) RN experience with sleep-disturbed residents, (ii) the emotional burden of sleep disturbances on RN and, (iii) organizational barriers to promoting resident's healthy sleep. Inappropriate administration of benzodiazepines and psychotropic drugs to manage residents' sleep disturbances was a major issue and lack of resources in residential aged care to facilitate sleep. There were concerns on nursing activity that disturbed residents' sleep and striking a balance between facilitating sleep and meeting managerial expectations was challenging. This review identified that nurses' decision-making has an integral role in the management of sleep health in residents in aged care. Whilst evidence-based guidelines for managing sleep in residential aged care are available, there is a lack of translation to practice. Understanding RN perspectives is critical to improving sleep health models of care in residential aged care. This review found that RN are attuned to the implications of sleep disturbance in residential aged care but are constrained by current sleep health models of care. Not applicable.

Impact of covid-19 pandemic on pregnant women and nursing mothers: integrative review

Objective: to identify research related to nursing care in Primary Health Care for obstetric patients and nursing mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Integrative literature review in the LILACS, Scielo and MEDLINE databases using combinations "Pregnant Women OR Pregnancy AND COVID-19", "Breastfeeding OR Breastfeeding AND COVID-19" and "Primary Health Care AND Obstetrics". 28 articles were included in the search. Results: information analysed divided into 1) Vulnerabilities and impacts for women during pregnancy during the pandemic; 2) Potentials developed in the COVID-19 pandemic for pregnant and postpartum women; 3) Understand how to continue instructing women on breastfeeding in times of COVID-19 and 4) Protocols developed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusions: the study presented looks at assistance to pregnant and breastfeeding women during the pandemic and guides the work for this audience today.

Unpacking Behaviours: A Literature Study and Research Agenda on Consumer Behaviour in Packaging‐Free Systems

ABSTRACTIn an era where food packaging plays a dual role in both reducing food waste and contributing to global packaging waste, this study presents an analysis of packaging‐free systems. As governments and organizations attempt to address the environmental impact of single‐use packaging, packaging‐free alternatives have emerged as a promising solution. However, there is a need for a comprehensive assessment of environmental sustainability and its alignment with consumer behaviours and preferences in this growing type of grocery system. Considering this need, this study employs an integrative literature review process, selecting 51 research articles. This selection was classified into three principal areas: the characteristics of packaging‐free services, the dynamics of consumer behaviour and patterns from a household perspective. This review evaluates the effectiveness of packaging‐free systems, exploring the factors that drive consumer adoption, the obstacles to transitioning and the relevance of theoretical frameworks like the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and practice theory (PT) in understanding and assessing the sustainability of these alternatives. The result of this study is the identification of significant research gaps and opportunities, leading to a comprehensive research agenda. This agenda emphasizes the need for a more refined understanding of consumer classifications that extend beyond standard demographic metrics, delving into aspects like household structures, dietary preferences and regional variations. The study highlights the limited scope of existing literature by advocating for a holistic grocery analysis that blends packaging‐free and conventional shopping practices to understand more realistic grocery scenarios, as not all products are available in packaging‐free alternatives. It also underscores the importance of integrating environmental assessments with consumer behaviour studies to see the sustainability of the systems beyond reusable containers. Additionally, this research sheds light on the relatively unexplored area of online packaging‐free services, questioning the sustainable implication of incorporating online alternatives in grocery practices, and suggests a broader application of theoretical frameworks, including activity theory (AT) as a new perspective to achieve a new understanding of these systems. Lastly, contributing to the overall understanding of packaging‐free systems, the study concludes with a SWOT analysis that briefly identifies strengths in environmental sustainability and consumer awareness, balanced against weaknesses like data gaps and complex consumer decision‐making processes.

Appreciative Inquiry: An Integrative Review of Studies in Three Disciplines

This integrative literature review aims to review, critique, and synthesize the existing literature on appreciative inquiry (AI) in three disciplines where the most significant number of AI-related articles could be found: healthcare, higher education, and management. We sought to identify critical insights, along with similarities and divergencies between the three fields. We identified diverse reasons for adopting AI methods and differing degrees to which researchers adhere to the 4D cycle. The reviewed literature suggests that AI yields positive effects across three levels (individual, group, and organization). Our results indicate that positive impacts from AI can be achieved even when not all steps of the 4D cycle are strictly followed. Furthermore, we discovered numerous innovative AI applications and multiple instances of using modified AI models. Based on our research findings, we proposed a systems model for understanding the AI process and offered implications for both HRD research and practice.

Designing the CSRD System: Insights from Management Systems to Advance a Strategic Approach

ABSTRACT The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) represents a pivotal opportunity to embed sustainability into corporate strategy. This article investigates CSRD from strategic and Decision System Support (DSS) perspectives, both being novel fields of CSRD research. By exploring the interconnection between these domains through the lens of management systems, particularly ISO14001, our study aims to uncover strategic insights and inform the development of robust DSS for CSRD. We conduct a thematic comparison of CSRD and ISO14001 standards, revealing strategic potentials of CSRD and implications for DSS development. Drawing on an integrative literature review, we identify key factors influencing the integration of sustainability into corporate strategy and provide insights into the strategic implications of management systems. Our study contributes to the professional debate on CSRD by elucidating its relationship with strategy, environmental management systems, and DSS, offering practical guidance for corporations navigating the complexities of sustainability reporting and management challenge never seen before.

Clinical Nurse Leader Practice Development: An Integrative Review of the Literature.

The Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) is a skilled clinician qualified in outcomes-based practice and quality improvement. Publications describe the CNL training, integration, and outcomes. However, CNL practice development and its impact has not been fully explored. This review aimed to synthesize existing literature related to CNL practice development and identify what influences on the care environment and nursing care outcomes. An integrative literature review was conducted in 5 bibliographic databases for sources published in English from January 2012 to March 2023. Fifteen publications identified 3 interrelated themes of CNL practice, outcomes, and practice development. Staff development needs were identified across various levels of expertise. There is a need to further explore CNL practice development and how it can impact the care environment and care outcomes.

Glucans: A Therapeutic Alternative for Sepsis Treatment.

Sepsis treatment is a challenging condition due to its complexity, which involves host inflammatory responses to a severe and potentially fatal infection, associated with organ dysfunction. The aim of this study was to analyze the scientific literature on the immunomodulatory effects of glucans in a murine model of systemic infection induced by cecal ligation and puncture. This study comprises an integrative literature review based on systematic steps, with searches carried out in the PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases. In most studies, the main type of glucan investigated was β-glucan, at 50 mg/kg, and a reduction of inflammatory responses was identified, minimizing the occurrence of tissue damage leading to increased animal survival. Based on the data obtained and discussed in this review, glucans represent a promising biotechnological alternative to modulate the immune response and could potentially be used in the clinical management of septic individuals.

The Digital Evolution Strategies for Overcoming Cybersecurity and Adoption Challenges in French SMEs

French Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face a crucial juncture in their path towards digital transformation. They encounter notable obstacles in embracing digital technologies and bolstering cybersecurity measures. This integrative literature review examines the complex relationship between digitalization and cybersecurity, highlighting their importance for enterprises' ongoing competitiveness and operational security. The study is focused on two primary areas: the integration of digital technologies and the establishment of robust cybersecurity frameworks. This review thoroughly examines existing research to offer strategic insights for leaders of French SMEs and IT policymakers. It employs rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, detailed data extraction, and comprehensive synthesis to ensure a systematic analysis. The findings emphasize the critical roles of organizational culture and innovation diffusion in shaping the adoption of technology and the implementation of security practices. The review puts forward practical suggestions to address the digital divide, strengthen cybersecurity readiness, and promote a digital environment accessible to all sectors of French SMEs. These recommendations focus on enhancing operational efficiency, minimizing expenses, and fortifying the security framework to bolster a solid national digital transformation. The study's conclusions highlight the significance of these findings for future research and practice, providing a thorough guide for incorporating digital transformation and cybersecurity in the context of French SMEs.
