The presentation highlights some of these diagnostic milestones and further introduces some of the personalities who contributed to their development as they are featured on postage stamps, cancellations, coins and banknotes of different countries. METHODS As a collector of stamps and currency for over 60 years, I have items of great relevance and interest in the history of diagnostics. RESULTS While stamps, banknotes and coins beautifully commemorate the well-known history of diagnostics with such events as the invention of the stethoscope and discovery of x-rays, stamps also salute the history of intravascular contrast medium examination, diagnostic instruments and genomics (some of which are funny). CONCLUSIONS The study of postage stamps and currency provides a stimulating and unusual way to investigate the history of diagnostics. © 2016FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 195Issue 4SApril 2016Page: e526 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2016MetricsAuthor Information Erwin Rugendorff More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
