The distinguished Arab psychometrician and psychotherapist, Dr. Louis Kamel Meleika is Professor Emeritus, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. He was born in 1921 in Akhmim, Upper Egypt, obtained a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Fouad I University (now Cairo University) in 1943, and a Diploma in Education (with distinction) from the Higher Institute of Education in Cairo in 1945. In 1947, he was sent to the United States of America where in 1952 he earned a Ph.D. in psychology from Stanford University. Soon after his return from the United States, he joined the newly established Department of Sociological and Psychological Studies, Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University. From 1967 to 1974, he simultaneously served as Professor and Chairman, Department of Personnel and Industrial Relations, Director of the Research Centre, and Director of the Executive Development Program, all at the National Institute of Top Management (now the Sadat Academy of Management Sciences), in Cairo. From 1969 to 1982, he was involved with two agencies of the United Nations, UNESCO and UNDP. In this capacity he served as Chief Technical Advisor to the Human Resources Development Projects of UNESCO and UNDP in Sudan, Iran, Pakistan, and Morocco, besides spending some time at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. Professor Meleika has been involved in numerous academic and governmental institutions in Egypt and abroad, as a researcher, consultant, and psychologist.
