Religious culture is a representation of religious values which are used as traditions in behavior and culture by trying to produce students who behave well or have morals. The purpose of conducting this research is to describe and analyze the strategies of school principals as leaders of educational institutions in cultivating religious culture in students at school. Interview, observation and documentation methods were used by researchers to collect data in this research using a qualitative approach. The results of the research show that the strategy used by school principals in cultivating the religious culture of students in schools is to use habituation and exemplary strategies through several activities such as midday prayers in congregation, tadarus al-Quran, tahfidz, dhikr after prayer, 5S culture, PHBI, visiting a friend who is sick or has had an accident.

Recommendations for Recovery of the COVID-19 Pandemic-related Diagnostic, Screening, and Procedure Backlog in Ontario: A Survey of Healthcare Leaders.

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a significant diagnostic, screening, and procedure backlog in Ontario. Engagement of key stakeholders in healthcare leadership positions is urgently needed to inform a comprehensive provincial recovery strategy. A list of 20 policy recommendations addressing the diagnostic, screening and procedure backlog in Ontario were transformed into a national online survey. Policy recommendations were rated on a 7-point Likert scale (strongly agree to strongly disagree) and organized into those retained (≥75% strongly agree to somewhat agree), discarded (≥80% somewhat disagree to strongly disagree), and no consensus reached. Survey participants included a diverse sample of healthcare leaders with the potential to impact policy reform. Of 56 healthcare leaders invited to participate, there were 34 unique responses (61% response rate). Participants were from diverse clinical backgrounds, including surgical subspecialties, medicine, nursing, and healthcare administration and held institutional or provincial leadership positions. A total of 11 of 20 policy recommendations reached the threshold for consensus agreement with the remaining 9 having no consensus reached. Consensus agreement was reached among Canadian healthcare leaders on 11 policy recommendations to address the diagnostic, screening, and procedure backlog in Ontario. Recommendations included strategies to address patient information needs on expected wait times, expand health and human resource capacity, and streamline efficiencies to increase operating room output. No consensus was reached on the optimal funding strategy within the public system in Ontario or the appropriateness of implementing private funding models.

This article aims to emphasise the contestation of higher education that was increasingly competitive, and even tending to be high disrupted competition in Indonesia by the lack of creativity in managing institutional strategies as well as in research culture. <em>This qualitative research used in-depth interview, observation and documentation supported by the interactive analytical approach which consists of condensing data, presenting data and drawing conclusions with involving 7 informants from institutional leaders, lecturers and students. This study confirmed that UII Yogyakarta with its well-managed research program strategic management design, is increasingly able to deliver quality and competitive Islamic university with distinctive institutional excellences, both at the national and international levels, such as: the development of a creative economy industry based on entrepreneurship that is globally competitive; virtual environment development for education, government, and on so on. Therefore, UII Yogyakarta has higher competitiveness at the global level which can be an good example of quality research development for Indonesian Islamic higher education.</em>

Conflict is a part of human nature in living together in the society which by good management it can be used as a stimulus for improving the quality of work performance, especially in Islamic educational institutions. This study examines the source of conflict and the urgency of conflict management in the institutional environment of Islamic education. This research is qualitative descriptive research. Conflict management in Islamic educational institutions is an effective way of increasing work productivity. The key of the effectiveness of conflict management in Islamic educational institutions is the ability and innovation of institutional leaders to combine or choose the best among several conflict management strategies such as giving explanation (tabayyun), deliberation, tahkim, ishlah, and other strategies. Therefore, the leaders of Islamic educational institutions must strive to improve the ability, insight, and innovation in managing conflicts in order to improve the quality of work performance optimally.

The Impact of Transformational Leadership on Teacher Performance in Shandong Universities: The Mediating Role of the Psychological Contract

Transformational leadership refers to a leadership style that aims to inspire and motivate followers to exceed their own self-interests for the sake of the organization and achieve exceptional outcomes. In the context of increasing demands for improved faculty performance in higher education, the relationship between transformational leadership, psychological contract, and faculty performance in higher education institutions remains an active area of academic research. This study focuses on the mediating role of the psychological contract among faculty members in higher education institutions in Shandong Province, exploring the impact of transformational leadership on faculty performance. This study is a quantitative study that used a convenience sampling method to conduct a survey, recruiting 755 faculty members from various higher education institutions across Shandong, China. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS, and the results indicated that transformational leadership significantly enhances faculty members’ psychological contract, consequently improving their performance levels. Moreover, the study revealed that the psychological contract is a key mechanism through which transformational leadership enhances faculty performance, primarily by fostering a higher sense of psychological contract fulfillment among educators. These insights underscore the crucial role of transformational leadership practices and the cultivation of a strong psychological contract in enhancing faculty performance in the higher education sector. The study advocates for the adoption of transformational leadership strategies by higher education administrators, coupled with concerted efforts to forge and sustain a meaningful psychological contract within faculties, as a means to bolster faculty performance.

Researching Possible Futures to Guide Leaders Towards More Effective Tertiary Education

Originally published in 2015, this research aimed to inform institutional leaders by producing and disseminating a system-wide view of what tertiary education might look like in Aotearoa New Zealand, 5years into the future. The researchers were responding to a challenge in a speech by highly respected national leader, Dr Peter Coolbear, at the DEANZ 2010 conference. The outcome was this research, known as the DEANZ2016 scenario set. Using JISC scenario-planning methodologies, including interviews of 16 national and international education leaders, the scenario set was developed on an x-axis depicting the tension between facing the academy and facing New Zealand employers, professions and iwi; and a y-axis depicting the tension between standardised education and customisation to personalise learning. Each of the quadrants aimed to expose and contrast potential future scenarios. These quadrants were entitled: Articulation, The “supermarket”, Quality branded consortia, and Self-determination. The project was innovatively disseminated via the web, and the DEANZ2016 website became the most popular section of the larger Ako Aotearoa website, stimulating further research into the uptake and effect of the project.

Do Resident Unions Improve Graduate Medical Education Training? Benefits and Potential Pitfalls.

The last 10 years have seen an increase in union representation for residents and fellows across the United States. It is estimated that 15% of residents and fellows are represented by unions. With increasing numbers of U.S. residents and fellows in graduate medical education (GME) programs being represented by unions, the authors contend that it is worthwhile to consider the benefits and potential drawbacks of resident unions and how GME and health system leaders can best work to ensure that the educational needs of residents continue to be emphasized in an era of resident unionization. Union bargaining can be a method to secure salary increases and other benefits for residents. Unionization can also provide a mechanism for more rapidly addressing worker protection issues and allows residents to advocate on behalf of patients. Residents participating as union leaders may develop important leadership and negotiation skills as well as gain beneficial knowledge about health system structure, financing, and priorities. However, with all the possible benefits that may come with resident unionization, there are also potential pitfalls. The collective bargaining process may create an adversarial relationship between program and institution leaders and trainees. Additionally, while residents are considered employees and able to collectively bargain, the National Labor Relations Board has also acknowledged that residents are "students learning their chosen medical craft." Program and institution leaders have an obligation to prioritize resident education and adhere to accreditation requirements even when these requirements conflict with union demands. Furthermore, because of the obligation to protect the public, program leaders should maintain control of resident academic due process issues. Program and institutional leaders must continue to prioritize resident education. Furthermore, GME leaders have a joint responsibility to create clinical learning environments that are conducive to quality patient care and promote resident learning and well-being.

The study on the impact of environmental regulation on ecological innovation: considering the joint action of internal and external factors

Purpose The impact of environmental regulations on ecological innovation is a contested issue in current research. However, there is no uniform consensus on existing conclusions. It is commonly accepted among scholars that external environment and organizational characteristics are key factors affecting ecological innovation. However, these are often analyzed in isolation, without consideration of the interaction between leadership and external environment. So this study aims to explore the impact of environmental regulation on ecological innovation by combining internal and external factors. Design/methodology/approach Based on institutional theory and leadership theory, this paper takes environmental regulation as the independent variable, environmental leadership as the intermediary variable and intellectual property protection level as the regulating variable to explore the impact mechanism of environmental regulation on ecological innovation. Findings The findings indicate an inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental regulation and ecological innovation. Additionally, there is a positive correlation between environmental leadership and intellectual property protection level with ecological innovation. Furthermore, environmental leadership partially mediates the relationship between environmental regulation and ecological innovation. However, the level of intellectual property protection does not have a significant moderating effect on the relationship between environmental leadership and ecological innovation. Originality/value This paper proposes suggestions for regional ecological innovation based on the current policy and research situation to promote its development.

Promoting L2 learners’ critical thinking skills: the role of social constructivism in reading class

IntroductionIn the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the imperative for success has increasingly spotlighted the essential need for students to develop critical thinking and reading skills as key competencies for the 21st century. This study sought to explore the potential of constructivism to enhance learners’ critical thinking and reading abilities, alongside evaluating their receptiveness to this pedagogical approach.MethodsA mixed-methods research design was employed, combining a quasi-experimental framework with semi-structured interviews. The quasi-experimental component compared the effectiveness of constructivist and traditional teacher-centered methods in promoting critical thinking skills. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to gauge participants’ satisfaction with the constructivist approach and to gather qualitative data on their experiences.ResultsThe investigation yielded two principal findings. First, the constructivist approach significantly outperformed traditional teacher-centered methods in promoting critical thinking skills among students. Second, the majority of participants reported a high level of satisfaction with the constructivist method, attributing this to the approach’s facilitation of deeper knowledge acquisition and increased opportunities for interaction with peers and instructors.DiscussionTheoretical implications of this study underscore the value of constructivism in fostering an engaging and interactive learning environment conducive to the development of critical analytical skills. Practically, the findings advocate for educational practitioners and institutional leaders to consider the integration of constructivist strategies in reading sessions to bolster students’ critical thinking and reading competencies. Moreover, it emphasizes the necessity for educators to receive comprehensive training on the nuances of constructivist pedagogy to ensure its effective implementation. This study thus contributes to the pedagogical discourse by affirming the efficacy of constructivism in enhancing critical cognitive skills and by outlining a pathway for its successful adoption in educational settings.

ABSTRACT Background: The Public Relations of the Makassar City Government not only conveys positive information about the programs and policies of the Makassar City Government, but also monitors and reports on Danny Pomanto's personal activities related to his candidacy for Governor of South Sulawesi in 2024. Purpose: This research aims to analyse the tendency of Makassar City Public Relations Press Release Content in reporting Danny Pomanto's activities outside his position as Mayor of Makassar. Method: The approach used is descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis method. The unit of analysis used in this research is the press release of the Public Relations (City Government) of Makassar City Government starting from the period February 2023 to September 2023. Data analysis uses the Krippendorff method with steps of unititisation, sampling, recording, analysis, inference and data reduction Results: The results showed that the content of press releases made by the Public Relations of Makassar City Government is not only conveying positive information about the programmes and policies of Makassar City Government to the public, but the PR also oversees and reports on Danny Pomanto's activities outside of his position as mayor, including releasing his personal activities as Chair of the Hasanuddin University Alumni Association (IKA) South Sulawesi when visiting several regions in South Sulawesi which have something to do with running as a candidate for Governor of South Sulawesi 2024. Conclusion: The implication of the findings of this research that needs to be underlined is that the public relations of Makassar City Government as a representative of government institutions / agencies should only report on the activities of institutions or leaders of institutions, not to become campaigners for individual leaders of institutions for political purposes. For this reason, public relations must be neutral and not be involved in practical politics, especially ahead of the South Sulawesi Governor election.

However, of course, in this effort there are problems faced by school principals. The aim of this research is to describe the leadership of school principals to improve the quality of education and the problems they may face. This research method uses a literature review approach based on studies from several journals, proposals and books. The research results are based on a literature review of reward and punishment which has an effect on improving the quality of education in the leadership of school principals.

Enablers and constraints to teacher educator wellbeing amidst institutional accountability cultures: a PERMA perspective

AbstractThe work of contemporary teacher educators in university contexts is under increasing political and public scrutiny as the focus on Initial Teacher Education (ITE) reform intensifies. Consequently, there are growing concerns for teacher educators’ wellbeing amidst escalating expectations and pressures. While research has explored the wellbeing of university academics more generally, less is understood about teacher educators more specifically. This paper aims to deepen understanding of the perceived enablers and constraints influencing how teacher educators experience wellbeing within their everyday work as academics in higher education contexts. Using metalogue as method, nine teacher educators from two Australian universities collectively reflected on their wellbeing during an online focus group session guided by an arts-based activity. Framed by the key constructs of the PERMA wellbeing framework, the ensuing metalogue was analysed thematically. Findings highlighted the particular importance they place on feeling a sense of value, purpose, and meaning in their work as educators for their wellbeing. Findings further showed how the impact of current external reform-driven accountabilities on their work and that of educators in the profession more broadly constrain their wellbeing. These findings have implications for institutional leaders and teacher educators in Australia and internationally where academics are experiencing performative cultures.

Consideration of student evaluations of teaching (SET) and learning: perspectives of learning and teaching leaders through the ethical lens of “first, do no harm”

This paper explores institutional leaders’ perceptions of learning and teaching involved in facilitating and assessing Student Evaluations of Teaching (SET) survey instruments across Australian regional universities. It focuses on how they understand the function of SET, strategies used to mitigate bias, and potential residual harm. Through adopting a combination of inductive and deductive research processes and a thematic analysis through the ethical lens of nonmaleficence (first, do no harm), we report that leaders in learning and teaching perceive SET as a form of surveillance and Quality Assurance ‘performance’, recognise inherent biases inhabited in SET reports, and identify how these biases negatively impact academics through a lack of systematic harm mitigation strategies. The paper’s critical – and novel – contributions include an increased understanding of how SET inflicts harm towards women and other marginalised academic groups through systematic and authorised microaggressions and how SET contravenes universities’ duty of care to employees. It recommends an expansion of the principle of nonmaleficence beyond potential harm to research subjects, including those who undertake research or evaluation (such as academics), particularly if these impact them.

Exploring The Pragmatism of Malaysian Youth Towards Politics

This article delves into the factors shaping the political inclinations of Malaysian youth, a demographic crucial for the nation's future. With youth groups representing nearly half of registered voters, their sway in elections is undeniable. They keenly observe their environment, scrutinizing policies that impact them negatively. Today's youth exhibit heightened political awareness, vital for nation-building. Political education, extending beyond elections, fosters civic engagement and societal progress. This study examines the political literacy of Malaysian youth and their pragmatic approach to politics. Through qualitative methods, including library research and interviews with 200 participants of the Sekolah Rukun Negara Program organized by the Institute of Leadership, Excellence and Development (i-LEAD), Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia, it explores the erosion of partisan ideologies among youth. Findings highlighted youth valuing politics for national stability and rejecting divisive racial politics. The study underscores the importance of political education in fostering unity and realizing Malaysia's national ideals.

Towards comprehensive mental health promotion in Australian universities: A call to action with priorities for institutional change.

While comprehensive mental health promotion inherently involves individuals, there is an ongoing need to address large-scale determinants of people's mental health and wellbeing-particularly policies and environments. To have the best possible chance of creating positive change, mental health promotion must also work throughout key mediating structures such as places of education and work. This includes universities. Yet, in their efforts to address student and staff mental health and wellbeing, Australian universities have demonstrated limited uptake of comprehensive mental health promotion approaches. In this commentary, I discuss a recent review of Australia's higher education system-the Australian Universities Accord-as a catalyst for strengthening institutional action and change through a comprehensive mental health promotion lens. I discuss key findings-and silences-made clear throughout the review process. I then advocate several urgent priorities for university-level change-across institutional assessment, institutional accountability and performance, and institutional leadership and power-if Australia's universities are genuinely committed to improving mental health and wellbeing among students and staff.

Collaborative governance arrangements: what makes nature-based solutions endure?

ABSTRACT ‘Nature-based Solutions’ (NbSs) are considered key actions to address urban regeneration and foster greener cities. Such actions are based on collaborative governance arrangements, where public administration, private companies, research and citizens cooperate to test and manage innovative solutions. Reflecting a quadruple helix logic, these arrangements display different actors leading responsibility for maintenance while cultivating collaborative relations. Hence, collaborative governance arrangements can assume the shape of public-led, private-led, research-led or community-led types, addressing specific maintenance challenges. Yet, the conditions that allow different types of collaborative governance arrangements to make NbSs endure are still poorly investigated. Through an in-depth analysis of the proGIreg Urban Living Laboratory in Turin (Italy), this paper analyses different types of collaborative governance arrangements, exploring which challenges, risks and potentials characterise them. Particularly, the paper investigates conditions that make NbSs endure over time. The results outline how legitimacy, institutional leadership and administrative commitment, networking capacities, integration of resources, competencies, co-responsibility, knowledge transfer and empowerment play a pivotal role in making NbSs endure. Overall, this article contributes to contemporary research and practices on urban experimentation, NbSs and maintenance.

Leadership Experiences and Perceptions of Mid-Career to Senior Clinician-Scientists: A Qualitative Exploration.

This study aimed to elucidate the experiences and perceptions of mid-career to senior clinician-scientists in academic medicine regarding pursuing, attaining, or rejecting leadership roles as well as their conceptualization of the influence of leadership in their broader career trajectories. The authors conducted a qualitative analysis of in-depth, semistructured interviews conducted in 2022 with a diverse sample of clinician-scientists who received new National Institutes of Health K08 or K23 Career Development Awards between 2006 and 2009. A total of 859 of the 915 survey respondents (94%) were eligible to be recruited for the qualitative study. Qualitative analysis was informed by thematic analysis and used a social constructionist approach to understanding participants' conceptualizations of their experiences. Interview transcripts were coded using an iterative, inductive coding process. Themes were generated by reviewing coded data and identifying common patterns in participant narratives, affording particular attention to participants' discussion of the effect of race and/or gender on their leadership experiences. Sixty clinician-scientists participated in individual interviews. Five themes were generated surrounding participants' conceptualizations of their leadership experiences. Themes were (1) feeling unprepared for leadership roles, (2) reluctance and lack of intention in attaining leadership positions, (3) influence of networks on leadership access and decision-making, (4) impact-related benefits and downsides of leadership, and (5) confining ideas of who leaders are. The study highlighted the need for formal leadership training in academic medicine and the importance of mentorship and sponsorship in attaining and succeeding in leadership positions. Individuals from communities underrepresented in leadership positions faced additional challenges internalizing a leadership identity. Efforts to encourage current leaders to engage in intentional succession planning and development of faculty towards leadership roles, including expansion of institutional leadership development programs, are needed to promote equitable distribution of leadership opportunities.
